My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Sally's one night after dining in Lincoln Square. We were planning a pub crawl of "dive" bars for a friend's birthday and thought Sally's might be good. We went to Sally's with an open mind, and left quite impressed and definitely buzzed. The bartender, Kara, was fabulous. Helpful, cute, patient with our silly questions, and even let us play some music on her computer.
Is Sally's a dive? I don't know. Honestly, there are not too many frills there. One flat sreen... but its big. Also, it was very clean. The beer selection is small, but as long as you are looking for the average domestic beers, or standard cocktails, you're golden. The $5 special of a can of old style and a shot of jim beam is too great to pass up, even on a Sunday night, as it was. All I know is that I've been to bars that are nicer and bars that are worse, and Sally's stands out as an inexpensive and fun place to go for some great neighborhood drinking.
I love Sally's. It's almost always fairly quiet, the bartenders are nice, fun, and friendly. Â It has a really family, homey atmosphere, and I always feel comfortable and welcome. Â The pool table is almost always open, and still cheap. Â The drinks are so cheap, it blows my mind. Â two people can easily get pretty buzzed on $30 including tip. Â It is a bit run down in that dive, Chicago, gotta love it way, and is retro in that way only a truly not updated in many years but still loving cared for bar can feel. Â Cash only.
