Dine in at Sal's on Wednesday evening, February 29. Â We were a group of 5 friends, all arriving at different times. Â The staff was very warm and welcoming, providing a table for us away from the main dining room.
We ordered some wine, and chatted for a while before ordering. Â This was our choice, and our server Sarah, was attentive yet not pushy.
First, the wine menu left a lot to be desired. Â While we were not looking for fine wines, I was disappointed that there was so little to choose from (by the glass). Â
Sarah brought bread, thick sliced, but very airy - like something you would get in the Wonder Bread section of the grocery isle. Â I was not a big fan of the dipping oil either. It was orangy in color, and really lacked flavor. Â Being an Italian restaurant, I would have expected some herbs or garlic in the oil, something a bit more bold.
We each ordered an entree or salad. I had spinach ravioli with house salad. Â The salad was average, but fresh. Â The ravioli were massive, 3 on my plate. Â It was very tasty, although the red sauce was not as flavorful as I prefer.
Overall, we had an excellent experience. We obviously go out to eat for the food, but the service is equally important to me. Â Sarah was great! Â She is the reason I would go back, but try the pizza next time. Â
I had confusion about the bill. Â Our food items were on the bill without sales tax included, but the drinks included tax. Â This makes it a bit confusing when trying to figure out the pre-tax total for tipping purposes. Â It's not that I am trying to be "cheap", it's just that is how I always base the tip.
This was my first time eating at Sal's and it was awesome! Â The service was outstanding, you get the feeling the staff loves their job and it shows through in the service they provide. Â I ordered spaghetti and meatballs and it was above average. Â The salad was fresh and delicious and the bread was amazing. Â I will definitely eat here again!
