Dine in at Sal's on Wednesday evening, February 29. Â We were a group of 5 friends, all arriving at different times. Â The staff was very warm and welcoming, providing a table for us away from the main dining room.
We ordered some wine, and chatted for a while before ordering. Â This was our choice, and our server Sarah, was attentive yet not pushy.
First, the wine menu left a lot to be desired. Â While we were not looking for fine wines, I was disappointed that there was so little to choose from (by the glass). Â
Sarah brought bread, thick sliced, but very airy - like something you would get in the Wonder Bread section of the grocery isle. Â I was not a big fan of the dipping oil either. It was orangy in color, and really lacked flavor. Â Being an Italian restaurant, I would have expected some herbs or garlic in the oil, something a bit more bold.
We each ordered an entree or salad. I had spinach ravioli with house salad. Â The salad was average, but fresh. Â The ravioli were massive, 3 on my plate. Â It was very tasty, although the red sauce was not as flavorful as I prefer.
Overall, we had an excellent experience. We obviously go out to eat for the food, but the service is equally important to me. Â Sarah was great! Â She is the reason I would go back, but try the pizza next time. Â
I had confusion about the bill. Â Our food items were on the bill without sales tax included, but the drinks included tax. Â This makes it a bit confusing when trying to figure out the pre-tax total for tipping purposes. Â It's not that I am trying to be "cheap", it's just that is how I always base the tip.
This was my first time eating at Sal's and it was awesome! Â The service was outstanding, you get the feeling the staff loves their job and it shows through in the service they provide. Â I ordered spaghetti and meatballs and it was above average. Â The salad was fresh and delicious and the bread was amazing. Â I will definitely eat here again!
Review Source:I was very pleasantly surprised by this place. Â When we walked in I expected a little hole in the wall pizza place. Â While it is sort of a hole in the wall, it was so much more than a pizza place. Â I had a great linguini with clam sauce that rivals any I've ever had. Â The only reason I'm not giving this place five stars is because the garlic bread was not all that. Â But this place is definitely worth checking out. Â I'm looking forward to trying other items on the menu.
Review Source:The BEST PIZZA and Italian food in Hendricks County. Go early because the place is not a place for ambiance and the seating is crowded and limited. However, the place is super clean, smartly organized considering the space, and the waiters are always available. No one has said much about the Italian dishes but the wife and I have tried a few different things and we were never disappointed. They offer a special everyday and the last one was a Chicken Marsala that I was disappointed that I did not order it. It looked sooooo good! But we were there for pizza and that is one heck of a consolation prize!!!!
Review Source:An excellent place to get pizza. Â Sal is a really cool guy too. Â He'll come up and strike up a conversation with you. Â HUGE slices of pizza (NY style). Â For the style of pizza it is, very very good. Â
Try the pepperoni bread sticks here. Â When I lived in Hendrick's County, I loved getting the bread sticks here.
Pizza is the star here. Oh, and also the garlic rolls - don't miss those!
Pizza features a buttery, slightly sweet, almost croissant-tasting crust, but not flaky like a croissant. More thickness to the crust than a NY style, but not much. Really outstanding pizza! Top three for the state.
More formal than most pizzerias, the large menu includes calzones and pastas as well as a nice selection of salads and apps. Seems to have sort of an identity crisis - plastic red bread baskets with cloth table tops and fancy-ish looking menu. Not a bother though.
Super attentive service, friendly, accommodating.
Worth the drive!
