I'm a big fan of Salsa's. Having moved here from California I was bummed that we couldn't get good Mexican food - at least until Salsa's opened. I love the guacamole made at your table and also the chile rellenos. Their portion sizes are really large so don't fill up on the chips. I can't vouch for the desserts since I've always been too full to try them. My only complaint with Salsa's would be the slow service when you're with a large group.
Review Source:Our first visit to Salsa's was for dinner last night. Â For once, I'm glad I didn't read the reviews first since we probably would have ventured elsewhere. Â Salsa's is locally owned, which is always a bonus in our book.
We arrived around 7:00 for dinner and the place was pretty full - lots of families. Â We were seated immediately (hostess didn't seem very happy to be working and a smile and hello would have been nice).
Our server greeted us immediately. Â We asked about the 99 cent wine special that was advertised at the door, but he knew nothing about it. Â He went to ask the bartender if they served wines and what kind...they served wine and yes it was on special, but we opted to skip the cheap wine, which I'm sure was a good decision.
I ordered the house margarita and my fiance got a Dos Equis draft. Â The margarita was huge (and only $5.99), but nothing special.
As soon as we received our drinks the guy came around with the tableside guacamole made to order ($7.99). Â We opted for everything but tomatoes with medium heat (which was really mild). Â Guac was delicious and worth a trip (and worth 3.5 stars if that was an option). Â Chips were fresh and the salsa was flavorful. Â It was served with a white, ranchlike dipping sauce (maybe trying to copy Hacienda's ranch?), but it tasted like a package of dried Italian seasoning mix with a dash of cayenne...not good and not needed.
I ordered two chicken enchiladas and my fiance ordered a combo with a beef enchilada and beef burrito. Â Our dinners were served in less than 10 minutes despite the fact they were pretty busy.
The enchiladas were ok, but not very flavorful. Â The diced chicken breast was dry and lacked seasoning, but the enchilada sauce was good with a nice smokey taste. Â The beef enchilada and burrito were almost identical except for the corn and flour tortillas. Â The ground beef was more seasoned than the chicken.
My fiance ordered the fried ice cream which was huge and he seemed to like it. Â I had a few bites, but wasn't really worth the calories.
Our server was fantastic and very attentive.
I popped in here a couple weeks ago on the way to Chicago. I ordered tacos and asked if they could make them with Chorizo. Bartender had to check back, but said it was okay. I was kind of surprised when my tacos arrived with nothing but Chorizo in them (no lettuce or tomato or salsa?). I was in a hurry, so I ate them anyways. They were actually very good. Chorizo was kind of like sloppy joe, but very tasty.
Review Source:went for lunch with a co-worker while in town.
Nice decor not to bad gives the feel of a Mexican street.
Menu was extensive. Went for lunch and the lunch menu had many options on it. They offer and express lunch, not usually a fan of that. Seems that they are rushing food out.
Chips and salsa were alright, that is how I first judge my Mexican. They give a cheese sauce and a salsa. We also got a small guacamole. Not the large table side one, we knew we could not finish.
The waitress told us it was made in the morning and not as fresh. She was right, but it tasted ok.
I got the chipotle chicken burrito. It was good and was finished with a nice cheese sauce on top.
I would definitely stop bye for lunch again, good service, speedy good tasting food, and nice decor.
We will not go back! Â The chips were brought out first, and they did not seem to he fresh. Â Although my boyfriend liked the ranch dressing, I didn't really care for the mayonnaise taste. Â Â l ordered a frozen banana margarita.....it was neither frozen or banana flavored. Â The waiter, as nice and friendly as he was, had written down a "regular" margarita (per the receipt at the end of our not-so-enjoyable meal). Â I ordered the veggie fajita's. Â When they came out, the majority of the "veggie's" were actually mushrooms, which were not listed on the menu as being part of the fajita's. Â I told the waiter that I would just pick around them. Â When you order, you have a choice of beans or rice on the side. Â I ordered the rice. Â Beans are what showed up at the table. Â The waiter then had to go back and get some rice. Â When we were finished the waiter came and asked if we needed a box for the remaining food. Â We told him yes. Â About 15 or 20 minutes later he came back and said that because of the mix-up desert was on them. Â Then he asked us if we would like a box........again. Â We did get the bananas foster cheesecake to go. Â Definitely the best part of the night.
Review Source:Loved the decor and staff. All were super friendly. Especially enjoyed the lava rock mortar which housed the fresh made guacamole table side. Ordered the pineapple paradise. Great seafood dish but I wish I had room to finish the entire dish. Presentation was amazing. I would come back if I were in the area again.
Review Source:This review will be quick... it was TERRIBLE! Carne Asada is nothing like true Mexican carne asada. It was mm sliced thin NY Strip and was dry and tasteless. Eat two bites and couldn't eat any more is was so dry. Tried my friends the chicken fajitas and not any better. The flour tortillas were amercian grocery store as well as the Guacamole was OK but not for $12. One positive is salsa was average.
Someone else we were with didn't want eat Mexican so they ordered the hamburger.... Stay away from that. On the kids menu and it look like an over microwaved dehydrated beef patty hard cheddar slice on top. It made McDonald's look gourmet.
Not one of 4 people ate their food. That is bad. We didn't complain as a good sign to the sever should be all the rice and beans where gone and the steak and the fajitas looked untouched. We told the waiter no box is necessary as we ate the fries from the burger basket. Those were great in comparison.
My Recommendation: Try Puerto Villarta across the street if you want great Mexican in that area.
I thought Salsa's was good. Â I like the Mexican decor and the water fountain, though the kids throwing coins in the fountain while we're trying to eat gets to be annoying.
The service was great and the food and margarita were great. Â It's a little pricey for what you get, but not a rip off. Â I had the lobster quesadilla and my hubby had the fish tacos. Â Both were excellent. Â The chips and salsa were great too!
I didn't see a drink menu and that was a little annoying, especially after seeing the cost of my margarita on the bill.
We'll definitely be back.
Love this place. Â It is still new, so I think they are still working out some of the kinks (we made a reservation and they told us we would have to wait 45 minutes. Â They ended up seating us right away when I told the manager we had already bought tickets for a movie in 90 minutes). Â That aside, the food is great. Â Very fresh. Â Love the guacamole made at your table. Â Just really enjoy that the food is not your typical bad Mexican fair.
