I would certainly agree that if you are simply looking for a bar to hang out and drink, this is not the place for you. It's small, gets crowded quickly, and drink specials are nothing special. HOWEVER, as a karaoke bar (its intention), this place rocks! Went last year for the first time with my group of friends on our annual OC vacation. We had a blast. I should also note: this was our last night of vacation, on a Friday night, and none of us wanted to go out (thanks to some massive hangovers). This was certainly the place to get over that. While not particularly cheap, I really enjoyed the long islands and of course, the great and the terrible karaoke singers (myself being one of the terrible). If you are with a group of friends, you all like karaoke, and you're looking for a damn good time... head on over to the Sandbar!
Review Source:I used to like this place - despite itself. Â Every year for the last 4 years, my beach group and I - anywhere from 20 to 30 of us depending on the year would go to The Sandbar for karaoke while in OC MD. Â We're not good at karaoke - but we drink a lot - and easily put $1,000 in the place - before tip - each night each year. Â We have a good time - and we constitute more than 1/2 the population of the bar each time. Â This year, this past Sunday, we had been there for 2-3 hours - having a good time amusing ourselves. Â My friend "Krissi" went to order a round of shots - 10 of them for just the girls of the group - from Bartender #1. Â We'll call him "Tall Guy with a Harvard Med shirt who could spell Harvard if you spotted him the -arvard" acknowledged the order but just kinda wandered around for 2 minutes. Â I mean this is $55 in shots - easily $10 in tips for 2 minutes of work. Â Bartender #2 - We'll call him "short guy with raging SMS" - sees Krissi waiting at the bar and "-arvard" Â doing nothing so her asks what she needs. Â She responds that she needs 10 shots. Â Each of the guys start making the shots at this point - and end up making 20 shots. Â I guess SMS and -arvard didn't really they were going for the same shots - when Krissi thought they were helping each other. Â They put the 20 shots on the bar. Â Krissi tells them she just ordered 10. Â They yell at her, swipe her credit card, and charge her $110. Â After "Mike", her husband, intervenes they take the shots off the bar and start kicking them out. Â Not until Mike contends to call the cops do they give us the shots. Â I contend with SMS that they just lost a few hundred dollars worth of business that night and thousands of dollars of business over the next decade over $10 worth of booze. Â He contends it was $110 and I laugh at his ignorance. Â I then get kicked out. Â The bouncer couldn't believe what they did and was shocked when over 20 customers left at once. Â I really think at least one of the bartenders owns the place - so I hope they - or the real owners - know how stupid they are. Â Blame Krissi as much as you will for ordering twice but the business you lost by upsetting loyal good customers over a misunderstanding is unbelievable. Â One of my buddies saw -arvard leave the bathroom without washing his hands. Â And the guy who runs the karaoke is kinda creepy, too.
