So I was torn. Â Always wanted to check out the buffet, but never
got around to it. Â Finally one night I decided to check out the
dinner buffet. Â Was good and bad. Â They are a 3.5, but will round up.
GOOD
Prime rib was decent, and was pretty much all I ate after serving #1
Price - was high 30s, which I considered reasonable
Service - hostesses were very helpful and nice
Breakfast buffet looked impressive and price was very cheap
BAD
Almost all of the other food was mediocre. Â Not bad, just meh.
Tried a bunch of other stuff. Â Asked for pasta a certain way,
and they screwed that up. Â All the other entrees looked super
unappealing. Â I am a food snob, so guessing simpler tastes
or people with kids will think it is great.
Giving them 4 stars because I got more than my money's
worth in Prime Rib, and guessing from what others tell me
that most people like the place. Â Plus staff there were great!
Really enjoyed our experience here. I went in Dec. on a night there was no buffet but definetly want to try it. A good buffet could bump my rating to 5 because its already a strong 4. The things that kept it from a 5 were it was the price (entrees $22-48) and you don't get to select your sides, it's chefs choice. The night I was there they were mixed veg and baked potato. Both were ok.
Now the good parts. We got excellent service. The atmosphere was really nice, candlelight type atmosphere but not pretentious, no dress code but nicer clothes are appropriate and kids are ok. We had ours with us and there is a kids menu. This was the scene when we were there although there was an area for band and dancing at other times.
We got nachos for an app, probably geared towards bar but they were excellent. Enough for all of us with lots of toppings. My wife got crab imperial and loved it. It had a little tang to it, almost like sweet peppery, but again, she loved it and the serving size was generous. I got the "Annapolis Roughy" which was orange roughy and imperial and it was also very good.
We would definetly go back here, most likely for the buffet because the combination of the good reviews on here and the pictures of it there had my mouth watering.
Arrived late (9pm) due to getting into town late. Â Since we were staying at the Clarion (the Horizons is in the hotel) we decided to just eat here. Â Their entrees are pretty expensive, like $25-50, but they have sandwiches, burgers, and some other options in the $8-$15 range. Â I had the fish and chips which was nicely made and a huge portion. Â The sandwiches and burgers ordered by others in my party looked great.
The live music on a Friday night was fine but a little loud, especially close to the stage. Â This was off season for tourism, but a Corvette convention was in town. Â An older crowd occupied the dance floor, drawn there by 50's and 60's music they queued up in between live sets. Â They also had a large screen set up to show the Washington Nationals playoff game.
Only strange thing was that we couldn't order draft beer to the table.  Our waitress, who was very good, told us she could only bring us a limited selection of bottled  beer to the table and that draft beers would have to be ordered at the attached pub.  We didn't particularly care but thought it was a little unusual.
I'd definitely go back, especially if I were staying in the hotel again.
