Bar service was not that to he standard I'm use to at Applebee's. it took over 5 min before the bartender even realized I was sitting at the bar and at that there were only 8 people sitting down. Then I. My second beer I had to wait 7 min before he even knew I was done with the first drink.

Annandale needs more restaurants like Silverado. The rolls, chips and salsa are delicious, free and fresh. The draft beer selection could be larger but they have many dominion drafts on tap. The service was friendly and competent. I had the BBQ Shrimp special which came with fries and coleslaw. All of it was delicious. I highly recommend the BBQ Shrimp, it is wrapped in bacon and jalapeno slices. The price is also right. I will be back.

Service was great, food was delicious and parking was available without much hassle.  There tend to be long waits if you choose popular times like Friday nights but its probably because of the good food/service combo.  Would be happy to go to Silverado again.

Of all the GARs, this is my least favorite, only because the service wasn't as excellent as it has been for me in the past at the other restaurants.

Our host was also our waiter and he wasn't very attentive. He was slow to bringing my boyfriend's beer and slow to taking our dishes away and bringing the check.
The food is DELICIOUS though. I had the Portobello fajitas. Yum!

I lived in Annandale for over a decade and never went to Silverados and I kinda regret it.  Yesterday I was in the neighborhood with my daughter (a toddler) and decided to stop by.  I got a seat fairly quickly.  They start you out with either bread or chips and salsa.  I got the chips, they were very good and the salsa wasn't spicy at all, but very tasty, even my daughter enjoyed it.

For my appetizer I ordered the Tex Mex Eggrolls, they were also very good, a bit spicy but not overkill. Even my daughter enjoyed them.  BUT they weren't nearly as good as Red Lobster's Fiesta Lobster rolls (RL no longer has these).

My entree was the blackened chicken caesar salad. I'm on a special diet so I really wanted to get something else, but I couldn't.  I was afraid it would be too small, but the amount of chicken was good.  I was hoping for more lettuce though.

All in all, it was a good experience , although I really prefer ethnic food instead of a chain.  Good tasting food, excellent service, all my food came so fast.  I wasn't even close to finishing my appetizer before they brought out my entree.

That place is run like a well oiled machine, very organized.  Other restaurants really need to learn from them.  Every 20 minutes or so I saw an employee with a walkie talkie come around and give updates on each table, "table 1 needs to be cleaned, table 2 is almost done,"...etc.  Other restaurants...TAKE NOTE!

My only complaint is that it's a little too expensive.

This restaurant is always consistent with service and food. Call ahead offered for reservations.  Nice little bar area and happy hour. Anything on their menu you will like. We ate here so much and enjoyed every meal.  But as a wine drinker, they don't pore a large glass.  Just enough to wet your lips. I usually didn't order the wine here because I felt so deprived. :(

Good option to sweet water in Merrifield - usually shorter lines and almost the same menu.  Great place to grab a burger or salad for dinner.

When I visit my family in VA we always end up here one night for dinner. The servers are friendly, the food is good, and the atmosphere is kid friendly.  It's one of the only, and best, non-korean restaurant's in the area.

I get made fun of because I almost always order the chicken fajitas *cough* I mean "The World's Greatest Chicken Fajitas", their words, but I will say they are some of the best fajita's I've ever had.

My family has ordered numerous different items and have always liked them - my Dad says the steaks are really good and cooked perfect when he has ordered them.

For dessert we got the "Warm White Chocolate Bread Pudding" and everyone LOVED it, literally we talked about it non-stop afterwards.

It can be a little pricey for a family of 4 honestly, but atleast the food and service is good.

Even though the food at Silverado is sometimes a little pricy (two people for just 2 entrees and 2 non-alcoholic drinks is always at least $50) the food is always top notch and the service is great. I do feel as if the "waiters" do the LEAST amount of work and the other guys (who are forced to dress in a different uniform as to say: "you are lesser than us") are usually the ones who end up bringing you everything, yet they get NONE of the tip. On multiple occasions I've had a waiter just take my order and then bring me my check. It was the "other guy" who brought me my food, asked and/or brought me anything else if I needed it, took the check, brought the check back, etc...

P.S. Don't order their "Warm Flourless Chocolate Waffle." It's pretty boring and bland!

Simple Southwestern round-up place!  Great American continues their excellence. Since starting with Fritzbe's, now Silverado in 1974, Great American Restaurants, which is comprised of 1) Artie's, 2) Best Buns Bread Company, 3) Carlyle Grand Cafe, 4) Coastal Flats, 5) Jackson's Mighty Fine Food & Lucky Lounge, 6) Mike's American Grill, 7) Ozzie's Corner Italian, 8) Silverado, and 9) Sweetwater Tavern, have been serving up some of the best eats, satisfying service, incredible All-American variety, and great experiences from spirits, starters, meals and desserts. This is not by any means a commercial, but a patron's tribute to what has become 9 fantastic Northern Virginia dining destinations - an achievement few local restaurant chains can brag about. I am sure you'll find something to your liking at any of their locations as I have, and urge you to contribute to this guide. This place has it for everyone - family, happy hour, casual, groups... not to mention great eats.  Bon appétit!

I gave this place another try recently and it really seems as though they have made improvements with staff training.  I've gone back several times and have found consistently good service.  I've eaten at the bar and at the bar booth area and the bar team is particularly good.  Very attentive and appropriate.  The food has also been consistently good.  Recent meals have included the chicken and portabello combo fajitas on one occasion and beef filet on another.  The fajita ingredients all tasted fresh and delicious.  The filet was cooked a perfect medium.  I don't think that the improvements are a coincidence.  The differences are too noticeable not to be the result of an intentional effort to improve.  I even notice an improved energy at the hosting station.  Good job.

Silverado's is simply the best place to dine in Northern VA.  I have been eating there three to four times per week for about four years now and the food is consistently is incredibly wonderful, the service very good, and the bathrooms clean.

I recommend the fresh fish of the day or the tender sirloin "tips" but beforehand you get to feast on the grilled salsa and warm chips.  The Ozzie rolls are to die for so give them a try as well.

You are bound to love, love, love this place.  Ask for Oscar or Paul for optimum service.  L.

Huge fan of the GAR restaurants so I may be biased but I love this place. The only good non Korean place in Annandale also. The big difference between this place and the other GARs (they all have one theme) is the tex mex style. Most of the menu is the favorites like the southwestern egg rolls and the flour less chocolate waffle dessert. But the fajitas are amazing. The steak are the best as they have perfected the way of cooking them that no one else does. If you request medium rare they cook the high quality steak that way (with lots of butter and onions) and then cut afterwards so it doesn't come out with those dry strips.

The homemade guacamole and the fish tacos that are both frequent specials are amazing. The service is good as always. They use team service and somehow it works.

I decided to update my review of Silverado and bump it up to five stars.  Mainly because, after several years of going there now, they deserve the extra point just for consistency.  It's one thing to deliver a good meal once or twice, but it's another thing to do it week after week, year after year.  The GAR people really seem to have this stuff down to a science.

Of all the times I've been to Silverado (and that's more than a few; it's my favorite restaurant in the Great American Restaurants empire), I've only had "bad" service once, and that really only brought it down to the level of what I'd normally expect at someplace like Chili's, and I've *never* had an issue with the food. Ever.

Also, I discovered an off-menu "secret item": fish tacos.  They tend to run out of them on busy nights or later in the evening, but if you're there early enough and want something smaller/lighter than the normal items, give them a try.  Like everything else, they're good.

It seems to be a bit more crowded now than in the past, so be sure to call ahead if you don't want to wait on a Friday or Saturday night.

Hopefully they'll keep up the good work.

I arrived early and there was a 20 minute wait.  Friends were to arrive later.  I sat on a bench outside and called a friend.  Told him about the wait and how I HATE restaurants with long waits.  How I would rather eat a can of Alpo than wait in one of those overcrowded places.  I would probably still try to find a quieter time to eat there, but my experience was very positive.
I ordered the ubiquitous chicken tender platter.  What can one possibly say about chicken tenders.  They are what they are?  Well, not here.  Silverado has taken chicken tenders to a whole 'nuther level.  Some nth degree times the cosine times pi r squared level of perfection.  Tempura battered and oh so juicy interior.  Actually ate most of them without wanting to use the dipping sauce (though the honeymustard dipping sauce was too sweet).   Everybody has their own opinion of a good cole slaw, but this one served with tenders was excellent.  It actually was an enhancement.  One cannot often say that the cole slaw was an enhancement.
For dessert (I did not eat all the entree so that I would have room for dessert just so you don't think I am a real piglet) I ordered  banana pudding.  Care went into the presentation of this dessert.  It could have been served at waaaay more expensive restaurants just on presentation alone.  But that is only the half of it.  The taste was divine.  In place of the classic vanilla wafer were praline-like crispy vanilla wafer nuggets.  When one still has dessert-heaven day dreams 13 hours after the fact, I guess that's saying something.
I guess I could have given this place 5 stars, but the crowds and the noise level are just not my thing.

I was so surprised to see a wait at 8 PM on a Saturday night but there was plenty of room to stand or sit while waiting for a table. I got the corn and crab chowder and I liked it because it was creamy but it was way too salty. My boyfriend and I shared a regular size of portobello fajitas, which comes with 4 tortillas. I thought 2 fajitas were the perfect portion for me, but my boyfriend was still a little hungry. Perhaps next time we will get the combo with extra mushrooms so he can get some meat in him. We also tried the pumpkin cheesecake at the recommendation of our waitress. But it was way too sweet and we only ate half of it. Our waitress noticed our disappointment and kindly took it off the bill. I will definitely be back to try other menu items, since I love Tex-Mex food and appreciate the good service.

Ok so I was buying food for an office and I called while I was driving to place an order and they told me I couldn't place a pick up order... Even for 10 people!
Needless to say I should have gone somewhere else because after I placed my order at the bar, about 15 minutes later the food was ready. Two managers walked up to me carrying he containers of food and when I asked for a bag, they said they don't have any! I was so pissed because how am I supposed to carry this food up 2 flights of steps without a bag! They went to the back and found me a box which helped carrying it but looked so weird walking into this office I was treating to lunch! Than, I realized they didn't give me any utincles for the salads I ordered!  I won't ever Oder or eat here based off the horrible take out service. The food wasn't event good! Smh

Silverado is the best. I have been eating here since I was a kid. I always eat here when I'm in the Annandale area.

Like all the Great American restaurants, Silverado offers fresh, tasty food at a reasonable price. You can start with bread or chips & salsa, or bread AND chips & salsa. The appetizers are great too. The Firecracker Shrimp and the Spinach and Artichoke Dip are great, but the Southwestern Eggrolls are my favorite. They used to have made-to-order guacamole which I've been lobbying for them to bring back for a few years.

If you're a fan of Tex Mex, you should definitely order the fajitas. I've tried every combination (chicken, steak, and portobello are the choices) and they're all awesome. The steak comes out a little rare, which I love. The sauteed onions that come with the fajitas are amazing and perfectly cooked.

I've never had a bad meal at Silverado. I even worked a few summers there when I was in college and never got tired of the food. If you're going for dinner you should definitely call ahead so you can start your wait early. The restaurant gets really crowded.

We are regulars here, it's closer to our house than Sweetwater or Costal Flats. Love their usual items that are on all the other restaurants menus too. Also you have a choice of chips and salsa or Ozzie rolls to start your meal, but you can have BOTH if you want! Silverado has truly some of the best fajitas in town. I always get the steak and portobello mushroom combo. The portobello is beyond awesome.

They only offer prime rib on Thursday-Saturday and you better get there early as they run out usually by 8! Today they ran out at 7:15! My hubby was not happy about that.

Like all of the Great American Restaurant chain, the service is more decent and consistent than similarly priced DC area establishments.

Silverado offers fajitas that are nicely done and reasonably priced, although a bit heavy on the salt.  The full-sized fajita platter is easily enough food to stuff two people.

The free chips and salsa, and the Best Buns breads, are among the best pre-meal freebies in the region.

Virtually everything we've ever tried at Great American Restaurants, including Silverado, is beautifully prepared and presented.  There are occasional glitches, especially if you dare drift away from the computer-driven menu, but the management will do right by you regardless.

This place seem to be packed always!  Food is very delicious!
I have yet to try 2 more dishes the fajitas n the filet pasta(keep being sold out)
This is my 3rd visit to this restaurant and it's very delicious! Love the chips salsa and the guac! The chicken quesadia is cut into 4 pieces with chopped lettuce tomatoes and have a side of sour cream and guac. Lobster bisque soup is great. The crab cake with filet steak doesn't seem too worth the money my friend got it, Seem a very small portion and the crab cake tasted okay. Pork Chop is really good (recommended by the bartender his favorite and he also recommend the filet pasta) The pork chop are 2 big pieces with a side of mashed potatoes. Two of my friends got the fajitas and ate all of it. The server's service is okay, twice i've sat down at the tables and the service is pretty slow. I feel like it takes us 20 min to get the check. The service at the bar was very fast and very friendly I would definitely recommend sitting at the bar! That way you dont need to even wait in line for the tables, however thats if you can find a space at the bar.

Aside from being ill-placed in a run-down shopping center, this is a cool place to eat.  Then again, I am a fan of the Great American Restaturants.  This location stands out for friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable staff.

I have only been here during lunch.  The place gets crowded rather quickly, but the food is always hot, timely and delicious! The price is fair.  Also, after checking out the caloric content of the food, I realized all the good dishes are pretty high in calories. (of course).

But if you feel like splurging go for the white chocolate bread pudding. O...M...G!!!

As is well established, Silverado is part of the Great American Restaurants and is southwest themed.  Apart from my personal experience what can be said?  They are clean, well-organized and you can use call ahead seating so you can minimize your wait time.

With that in mind, here is my personal experience...

Our entire meal included chips and salsa, fajitas for two and a mango margarita. The chips were fine, the salsa has something different going on it; a smoky sort of flavor. The smoky flavor would be well-liked by someone who is into those flavors (ie bacon, salmon, bbq...).

The fajitas for two are indeed generously portioned and come with beans (pinto with ham), pico de gallo, lettuce, sour cream, rice and cheese if you wish and with six tortillas (I believe).  There is a lot of tender meat, but you might want to use a knife and fork to cut the steak into better bite-size pieces before you place it in your made-at-restaurant tortilla.  The tortillas are actually quite yummy, they are thicker than store-bought and have a good flavor to themselves, making them an excellent canvas for carrying the ingredients to their final destination.

The mango margarita did not live up to it's ripe mango goodness unfortunately.  I informed the server and it was taken care of with a very surprising explanation.  A manager explained that their mango margarita uses fresh mango puree that they make at the restaurant! I was very surprised to hear they use fresh mangoes, but perhaps they were not ripe enough to sweeten and impart their mango goodness to a margarita.

Overall the meal was tasty and predictable for a Great American Restaurant.

    To break it down,

The food: It's good, consistent, with care put into the dishes
The value: The fajitas for two will set you back a bit over $30.  The margarita will set you back $7 or $8 and some change depending on if you get classic or fruit.
The experience: It's southwest themed, but not over the top. Just right for a Northern VA suburb
4 stars?: Outstanding service, food is quite tasty
Would I return?: Yeah, I've been here twice already in less than a year.

Amazing, top notch food. Can't say enough about how delicious it is.

Poor to mediocre service and attention. Had to ask several times to a refill of water. Waited almost as long for the check as I did the food.

Every menu item was $1 dollar more here than it was for the same menu item at all other Great American Restaurants. I had the amazing chicken strips here and paid more for the same thing than I would have if I had gone to the better Artie's.

When I asked the manager why this was she had no answer at all and tried to align my frustration with her lack of explanation. If you're going to charge more for the same item, at least have an explanation ready.

Comparing to Sweetwater which I love, this is just a disappointment. The service was really bad, which is funny because Sweetwater has the best service consistently. Also I called ahead and they didn't get me on the list which seems to be a manual pen and paper process which doesn't work.

I'd say the food quality is good, taste just like Sweetwater.

Negatives would be the service and the dining room. It's dark, it's loud, just not a place to have a conversation with others.
I think I'll stick with Sweetwater.

Another "Great American Restaurant" restaurant. Silverado does just what every other GAR does: Provide great food at a reasonable price with good service and a good atmosphere. My only disappointment was they weren't serving Jumbalaya Pasta (Sunday evening only) when I last went. Instead I had "Bubble & Squeak", an interesting brunch time take on fried chicken and poached eggs. It was... interesting. Certainly good enough that I scarfed the whole thing down, but I'm not sure I'd get it again. Just not to my taste but, again, that didn't have anything to do with the quality of the meal. Just my tastes.

Still, a rock solid 4 stars for this favorite of mine.

Consistently great food with great service

This is our "second kitchen", as my wife likes to say.

I'm going for 5 stars for the Silverado restaurant because of Service, Food Quality, and the fact that my family and I have eaten here over 50 times.  We are definitely going to continue returning, and here's why:

Silverado's menu is varied and yummy.  My favorites include the burgers, salmon salad, fried chicken salad, ribeye steak, porkchops, and fajitas.  The salmon is cedar grilled after a soy sauce/OJ marinade and is juicy and delicious.  The ribeye is juicy and charred just enough to keep conversation to a minimum.  I like the fajitas here the best.  I have eaten a ton of fajitas at many different restaurants.  The chicken fajitas are never dry.  There are weekly specials that are worth returning for, including the shrimp and scallops over penne, jambalaya, and sauteed chicken breast over capellini pasta. The Chop House salad is my favorite.  Buttermilk dressing over a balanced lettuce, tomato, corn off the cob, and basil works great with the ribeye.  The baked potatoes are a meal in itself.  And the rotation of soups are always good- I tend to return for the lobster bisque.

Everything is almost always flavorful and in the off chance there is an issue, the servers bend over backwards to fix it.  Steak a little rare- bam, another steak is on the way.  It is a team-service atmosphere, as all the wait staff work together, sharing tips and making service fast and friendly.  We know the names of some managers, and some of the wait staff and they stop by to say hi, if they aren't serving us.

They feature some of the beers that the Great American Restaurants brew- in addition to a full bar and other draft beers.  I wish they carried more variety of their self made brews but I can't complain with their Pale Ale.

One can call ahead to get on their waiting list.  This means, with a phone call, you can start your waiting time at home, instead of at the restaurant.  If you don't, you can hang out at the comfy bar with TVs and newpapers.

So come for the food!  Stay for the service.  Don't forget dessert!  It's all good.

Had dinner there with my wife, sister-in-law, and two friends. There service was very nice. They have a good system for checking on tables; so it may not always be your server that fills you glasses, but they will always be full.

We ordered an appetizer and they said that because it came out late that it was on the house. We hadn't noticed that it had taken a while to come out, so that was a pleasant surprise.

I ordered a steak, medium-rare, and it was cooked perfectly. Many places over cook in order to cover themselves, but Silverado cooked it just right.

Overall, wonderful experience and I can't wait to go back.

I didn't even know this place was here!

Came in on Fri night with a group and we were able to snag a table after a 30 min wait.  Holy cow, it must be damn good if it was this packed.

The menu is not very big, but the choices all looked good.  I'd have to say it is not far off from a gourmet Outback Menu.  The ingredients are very fresh and a lot of their sides are made from scratch. I went with the Baby Back with Coleslaw and substituted the fries with the Veggie of the Day which was asparagus.  As I had expected, the portion was just too much for me.  The coleslaw was really unique, it wasn't made of the usual cabbage and carrots. I couldn't really ID the ingredients and it didn't stay out of my mouth long enough for me to analyze it.  It was very tasty! The ribs itself was amazing fall off the bone hickory smoked yummy goodness.

As recommended, we split the white chocolate bread budding.  OMG! This was amazing!  Good thing we split it because it was a large serving! The hot gooey bread pudding and the vanilla bean ice cream was just heaven in my mouth.

The service was amazing with the amount of people in there.  Word on the street is that GAR has really strict training requirements for their staff.  Well it definitely shows in their service.  They have specific time requirements for appetizers, so it it takes too long its on the house. That's what happened to our Firecracker shrimp.  Wow.  The company runs this place almost military style!

I definitely want to come back for steak and flour-less chocolate Waffles!

    SERVICE: ZERO STARS.
    FOOD: FOUR STARS.

We arrived on a Tuesday night at 9pm and were seated immediately in a booth and we were the only table in the section.

    MENU:
Our server (Chris) greeted us within a few minutes and told us of the two specials available.  We decided on getting the Roast Pork Tenderloin (Tuesday special) and the Sauteed Filet Mignon Tips.
HMM...guess what?  They're out!  Why not preface this with your customer and let them know that those are the ONLY TWO dishes that are unavailable!

So we settled on the Jumbo Steak/Chicken Fajitas for Two.  We got bread and iced tea and water. Our bread and drinks were done.

    SERVICE PLEASE.
    Refills anyone?  Nope.

About 15-20 minutes later, the food runner brought out our entree, she had to make two trips because of the number of dishes (1 sizzling plate, 2 dishes with toppings, 2 empty plates, tortillas, rice and beans bowls).   The fajitas were delicious.  The meat was tender and smoky flavored and the toppings were fresh.  I love that they have guac.

    CLEANLINESS (FAIL):
Our empty plates were absolutely disgusting, covered in grease and with fingerprints all over!  Gross.  We asked for two clean dishes but I wasn't all that comfortable using them because they still were not that clean, so I just held the tortilla in my hands the whole time.

    SERVICE PLEASE.
    Refills anyone?  Nope.

So I know that with Great American Restaurants typically they use a team approach to serving.  There were several servers around, but not Chris our original server.  We had to ask several times from whichever server walked by to provide refills.

    SERVICE PLEASE.
    Refills anyone?  Nope.

    ANGRY CUSTOMER (ME) VERBATIM:
"I need 2 iced teas and 2 waters because I don't want to hunt anyone down to get refills because the service is so terrible."

When you have to constantly look for a server to provide you with refills that is absolutely absurd.  Refills are at the absolute minimum if you are going to be a lazy server. The funny thing is when another server came to drop off the drinks we only get 2 iced teas no water.  HAHA.

    CHECK PLEASE!!!
Dessert?  Pass.  This service sucks.  And they are probably out of it anyways.
    Bill: $36.70
Tip: $3.00 (Boyfriend felt bad leaving no tip but I wouldn't left anything and would have wrote on the tip line "Psssh....")

Another in the  Great American Restaurants lineage.

    These restaurants are consistently good,

I happened to be in the neighborhood and a friend suggested we try this place for lunch.
On the day after Irene, it was packed as many people were still out of power.

We sat at the bar and received exceptional service from Suzie K.

I had the fish tacos which were a meal.

This place reminds me of the Sweetwater, though different in that they serve vendor beers.

If you love portobello mushrooms, you must order the fajitas with the portobellos being the main ingredient or as a side.  I usually order the portobello fajitas but the last time I was here, the boyfriend didn't believe how wonderful they were.  He insisted we order the beef and portobello to share.  Well!  The beef was chewy!  Portobello prevails!

I've also tried the Tex Mex egg rolls which were good because of the guacamole dip.  But the fajitas by themselves are filling as is.  There is no need to order an appetizer to share and put yourself into a food coma.

Of all the GAR's in the DC metro, I landed here on Saturday night. Probably because it was closer than Mike's, Artie's, or Coastal Flats. I was also craving those darn ozzy rolls, so I was on a mission. The chicken fajitas were pretty good. I was more pressed with the flavor of the beans and rice that accompanied the dish.

Service wasn't stellar, but then again, I was seated in the bar area and my server was clearly struggling with maintaining bar patrons and those of us sitting at the outer surrounding tables.

All in all, the food was decent, but I will stick with Mikes for the drunken ribeye.

I was craving a burger...but I wasn't in the mood for a long drive and I don't really like Fudruckers all that much.  I figured Silverado might be a good bet, especially considering that I was alone and I could sit at the bar and read while waiting.

The strip mall where Silverado calls home is pretty unique...with only the Quiznos being a staple 'strip mall type store.'  The rest of the places were a little quirky...especially the tuxedo shop that was going out of business.  They apparently also sell costumes, so the front window was full of giant furry animal heads (bunnies, ducks, monkeys) with a sign saying that all "Costumes 50% off."  I had the urge to buy one since it would be fun to have, but I figured it might not be the wisest purchase.

So, I went to get the burger.  The place was pretty packed for a late Sunday afternoon, but the bar-area was relatively empty.  I didn't plan on having a beer, but seeing the old couple next to me sipping on martinis just made me feel like a Guiness.  I then ordered the Cheddar Cheeseburger.

Silverado definitely has a vibe...an old west thing...and while generally I like that sort of thing, at this place it strikes me as a bit creepy.  Maybe its the red striped shirts that the servers have to wear.

The burger was actually pretty tasty.  It had a charred taste, but was still pink on the inside, so I knew it hadn't been sitting in the corner of the grill all day.  It came on a hearty bun with pickles and a diced lettuce mixture that had a slight taste of horse-radish.  That was the really un-expected part...it wasn't overpowering - but it made the burger unique.

The fries are a very thin variety, shoestring I suppose they are called.  Lightly salted and peppered, they offer a nice accompaniment without being so heavy that you feel awful when leaving.

So, as far as a place to sit at the bar, read your book, have a beer, and eat a burger...this place would get 4 stars...but as a restaurant as a whole, I can't give it that.  The menu has always seemed sparse to me...it never has something I really want to eat (so I just settle for something) and the food is just ok.  But, if you are local and don't feel like traveling very far, this place will do.

We have been to Silverado's a number of times and it has been a great experience every time. Occasionally there is a wait but usually no longer than 10 minutes.

They bring this delicious bread to the table with this very flavorful butter. I think it may be a some kind of honey butter but could be wrong. They give you an assortment of breads but we only like the raisin pumpernickel bread, and these little beignet like puff balls. Not sure what the other breads are because after the first time we were there we tell them to only bring our favs.No apps, just bread and a nice glass of Blue Moon gets the dinner started right.

AS for dinner, we've had almost everything on the menu. We like the fact that they have a different special dish and soup every night of the week. Tonight Yana had the Sauteed Chicken Breast with roasted red peppers, mushrooms & arugula on capellini pasta & brown butter sauce. She liked it so much that she didn't finish so she could take the left overs home for lunch tomorrow haha. I had a tennis match right afterwards so decided to go light with my Hickory Burger with a mound of shoe string fries. I needed something filling to soak up my Blue Moon. The food was once again fantastic. No dessert this time because we were stuffed as usual, but they are nice. Definitely try the full rack of ribs if your ever there. They are very tasty as well.

Note: Don't forget anything there like your purse because you might not get it back. Yana forgot  her gift bag with $200 in gift cards to the Palms Restaurant and we called the next day and nowhere to be found. Was it the server, hostess or the bus boy? Can you really trust a restaurant if you can't trust its staff?

We moved our offices from Arlington into the food abyss that is Annandale.  What I mean by that is simply this:  Annandale is chock full of really authentic asian restaurants but only a handfull of general eateries that serve steak, burgers etc.  Plenty of craptacular fast food here but our pickings are slim for variety so I think that is why SIlverado scores so highly with many of us.  We desperately need more middle of the road places to eat around here.

Silverado fills the void nicely with southwest eggroll appetizers, goat cheese pecan salads and my personal favorite-The Chophouse salad.

DO:  Order two appetizers for lunch like the eggrolls and chop house salad or try the pork BBQ before it sells out as it does on a regular basis.

    Order chips and smoky salsa-great.

    DON'T:
Sit at the bar unless you want cigs and alcohol in that order-very smoky over there.  I also noticed a TON of people drinking during the work day-what the heck?
Want a quiet little lunch or dinner?  This place is noisy and not good for dates or times when you just want a little quiet.
Lunch with tip here is a good $14.00

I grew up in Annandale and as soon as Silverado popped up I was a fan.  It was my first Great American Restaurant experience and it broke me in well.  Annandale lacks lots of options of great quality dining so thankfully if you're near Annandale or live there you have Silverado to go to or for just a short drive you can wander over to Arties at Fairfax Circle.

A little more tex mex inspired but definitely still reminding me of Sweet Water's menu, you can't really go wrong with anything on here.

Don't skip out on dessert either :)
