Been coming here since 2003, when it's original store was located in Englewood (Saigon Republic) and Fort Lee (Pho King).  Specifically, I come here for the pad thai and it never, ever, ever disappoints. been eating this dish forever, and i can never order anything else here. my wife does select different options from the menu, and she says they're all good.  it is pretty heavy on the peanuts, so beware for those who have allergies.  it's not your traditional pad thai, the noodles are stickier and thinner, but delicious nonetheless. i can never finish the whole thing, the portions are pretty big.

place was busy for a lunch during an extremely hot saturday after 4th of july. lots of families, so it's kid friendly.  staff is attentive and our waters were constantly filled.  the shrimp chips are delicious, and they offered another basket. i also had the thai iced tea, which was status quo as far as thai iced teas go.

hope this place stays around, unlike it's predecessors in Fort Lee & Englewood. I'll definitely be coming back...and I might even try something different, i've got my eye on the pho here...tho, some of my fellow Yelpers are not fans.

Well, I finally broke down; my craving for noodles finally got the best of me and I caved in and ordered pho from this place.

First of all, this is not my first Vietnamese venture. Vietnamese interpreter friends in Hawaii and my coworkers back in SD whipped me into a bún cha -oholic. I was the Yelp Dutchess of our local pho place...did I mention that we lived in Mira Mesa?

I ordered the "Beef Combo" after a few attempts at ordering pho tái. What I got turned out to be good, but it wasn't the Vietnamese I'm used to at all. As I unpacked everything, I noticed that there were lots of differences. First off, the beef was already IN the broth, so beef combo turned out to be pho chín, really. Some of my garnishes were already in the soup and the rest of the garnishes were stuck at the bottom of the noodle container. This is VERY odd, because usually the cook likes to show how fresh the garnishes are by seperating them...not hiding them in the broth or under noodles. The broth had a very odd flavor that I could only describe as a cinammon liquid smoke.
    Odd. Not terrible, but odd.

I'd try the Thai food, but I wouldn't venture into anything Vietnamese from here again.

By the way, the correct way to pronounce pho is not "faux", it's more like "feu", as in pot au feu. You're welcome.

When in the mood for giant pho soup this is our favorite place to go. So glad that we found Simply Vietnamese after their other restaurant Mo Pho closed in Fort Lee.

As a pho enthusiast, I was very excited to try this new Vietnamese restaurant that was around town instead of going all the way to Chinatown for some good tasting pho. I ordered the beef combination pho with the raw meat on the side, and unfortunately, it does not compare to the authentic pho in Chinatown. It was weirdly sweet, I'm guessing from the cinnamon. Also, it was pricier than usual ($9 for a regular bowl instead of $7) and did not serve tea with the water. On the bright side, they served chips with dip and the place was well decorated.

All in all, I'd say this place served less than okay Americanized pho... I wonder if the chef is actually Vietnamese....

I went there alone yesterday, I have tried 3 different Vietnamese restaurant within 2 weeks. I ordered beef combo Pho. The beef and soup is just ok. The price is higher than other Viet restaurants ($14 dollars for a beef combo Pho).  I waited for almost 10 minutes to get my bill.

I enjoy their pho a lot. I would highly recommend it . It is a very small space and it gets crowded so I would suggest making reservations or taking the food out.  Everything is fresh and very flavorful. Great neighborhood gem.

We ate here three times in 2013 and have been very satisfied each time we ate here.

Service was good, food was good.  The one bad point is street parking.  If you come on a busy night, there is no parking available on the street.

Great place. Thanks to L. for recommending it to us!
Very accommodating to a "no-wheat and vegetarian" people - rice noodles and veg. broth !
we ordered 3 soups to compare -  spicy lemongrass (coconut milk base), spicy tamarind (pineapple and tomatoes) with rice noodles and veg. pho with tofu.
our favorite was spicy lemongrass. MUST try.
tamarind second and pho third (more plain out of 3 of them but still nice)
veggies are crispy and cooked perfectly, service is very attentive and nice.
also their lemonade and Vietnamese ice coffee were very good as well.
portions are enormous and we packed a rest home and had full dinner next day.
will be back when in the area.

Probably one of the most delicious meals you will ever have. Order anything you want as long as it's steamed angel hair noodles.

Because this place is so close to where I live so I always get it to go, I stop by whenever I get a craving for pho (which is pretty often). I almost always get the beef combo pho and duck summer rolls which are pretty good. I got the Bahn mi sliders and they were alright, but I'll stick to the beef pho from now on thank you very much. The beef pho is a little sweet for me but nothing a little sriracha can't fix. The food comes with shrimp chips and sweet chili sauce but sometimes the shrimp chips tastes like it was fried in old oil.

Restaurant is located in a very nice neighborhood with a variety of different restaurants and a movie theater. I look forward to hanging out here in the summer time. You can BYOB! They start you of with the shrimp crackers with a nice sauce, which was yum. For the appetizers ordered summer rolls, beef and duck. The duck was good, but had a bit of a weird after taste. I think it would have been better on its own with some sauce. The beef is going to be my dinner later today, but my husband said it was okay. For the main course we had the shrimp fried rice and this can serve two people and the Asian flounder, which came with white rice.

The shrimp fried rice was tasty, but just did not like those big string beans. Fish was okay, a bit salty for me - but good flavor. I look forward to going back and trying some more dishes, maybe the crab soup.

This is the best pho that I have ever had. I really can't get enough of it. The broth is very rich so be prepared - you taste the star anise, the beef bone, and herb flavors made from simmering for hours. The Jerk Beef flavor is my favorite: some spiced, shredded beef on top of glass noodles with  jalapeno, cilantro, sprouts , and add sriracha and you are in for a treat. Their  shrimp dumpling and summer roll apps are very tasty also.

Go at lunch time and pay less for bowl that's pretty much the same size that is served on the dinner menu.

Small place right in the Heart of Tenafly. Their Pho is excellent; fresh and flavorful. I'm sure that they have other items on the menu, but the giant bowl of soup that you get is more than enough for any appetite.

I went there with friends who had been there a few times.  Place is comfortable--not fancy, service is friendly.  Unfortunately, there was a swarm of fruit flies circling us during dinner, which was a bit annoying.  The food was good, but I was surprised that when I brought the "flies" to the attention of the staff, that nothing was done to try to get rid of them.  We were asked if we wanted to change tables, but there was a big group expected in and any options would have put us closer to them--making it difficult to talk to each other.
We shared the Butternut squash dumplings and Duck Summer Rolls as appetizers.  I had the garlic shrimp for my entree.  All were good.
I would go back .  . but if the fliess are there, it would be my last.

To be honest, the flavor of the pho is not consistent, too salty, too sweet. im sorry to say that.and the service is very bad. too rude to asians. I ask for some ice, old guy spelled ICE in my face and ask if thats the ice i want, definetely not his eyes...and for the price they should be using fresh pho noodles. not the one you boil..

I am new to pho. I really like it, which is surprising bc I have never really enjoyed star anise. I tried Simply Vietnamese for lunch one afternoon, and I ate the whole bowl of pho soup, and also enjoyed the spring rolls. I want to come back to this restaurant with my husband and some friends, I just have to sell them on vietnamese. Overall, the place was clean, the food was good, and there are more things on the menu I would like to try!

Ah the prospect of Sunday brunch in Bergen County. Where to go? So many choices but not so many if a little post brunch shopping is in order. Those darn blue laws!

But, I digress. On Rushan's recommendation, he is so good at those!, The L and I ventured to Tenafly's Simply Vietnamese. Having recently expanded their space we had no trouble being seated, in the new area which is painted in a most beauteous shade of red and dotted with some Vietnamese tchotchkes, and we quickly settled in to their lunch/brunch menu.

From noodle soups to salads to more noodles and rice dishes their offerings were plentiful including VEGETARIAN Pho. Yes pho-king way! Finally. But we started with their highly recommended Vegetable Summer Rolls, a mix of raw veggies ensconced in a rice wrapper with a side of saucy sauce perfect for some dippin'. Prettily presented they were very filling and substantial.

My Pho was brimming with veggies and soft diced tofu with a dish of sprouts and lime on the side. The broth while pale in color had a good spicy kick. But the amount of veggies in there was amazing. I particularly liked the Choy and the zucchini which had a buttery flavor. The onions not so much as they were raw so I picked them out. So many veggies I could not even finish it. That is shameful since I hate to waste food and that they even had pure veg pho is the menu was, well, simply pho-nomenol! ;))) Though it was a hot day the soup hit the spot. I shall have to try it again when the cold weather comes.

The restaurant is located in the heart of the Tenafly business district so our next trip there will certainly be on a more active day in the community so we can walk it off and enjoy the plethora of shops which line the streets or perhaps shop first so that bowl of veg Pho does not seem so daunting.

    Food: 4 stars

The Pho was delicious with a flavorful although slightly over salted broth. The beef was tender and the noodles were quite tender. I like the accoutrements of Bean sprouts and jalapenos to add a bitter/heat contrast to the soup. This is an extremely hearty soup that could easily be a dinner. If I had known how big the troth/bowl was, I probably would have ended up getting just that. It's an excellent soup.

The Pork fried dumplings were disappointing. Although they did not taste overly greasy there was too much dough and too little filling. Felt like something made on the cheap.

I had the pork and beef steamed Asian angel hair dish  which was good buy I felt it could have used a little more depth of flavor. The pork and beef were cooked well; had an almost Chinese takeout taste to it. (Nothing wrong with that btw) The rice wine vinegar sauce that came with it was good but didn't do enough to mask the bland noodles.

The lettuce that came with it took up half the dish and made it seem like you were supposed to make lettuce wraps. Strange

The house noodle dish was good. Tasted like lo mein on steroids. I liked the balanced use of soy sauce to add nice saltiness to the dish without overpowering it. However they forgot to put beef in her dish which is just unacceptable

The fried banana dessert was delicious, the highlight of the meal. I mean it's a fried banana, what could be so bad lol.

Service: 1 and a half stars: Service ranged from surly to barely passable. Our main server acted like he just got into a fight with his girlfriend or had male pms. Not pleasant. Furthermore it was slow service without much attention.

Atmosphere: 3 and a half stars; Restaurant was busy, reservation definitely needed. Has a busy rushed atmosphere.

Conclusion: If the service were better, I would have given this place 4 stars: However the service plus some missteps on the food make it only 3. It's worth trying once though.

I'm somewhat of a newbie when it comes to Vietnamese food, but I wasn't overly impressed with anything here.

We went at 7 pm on a Saturday with a reservation, and the restaurant was mostly full the entire time. Absolutely make a reservation on the weekends.

Pork fried Vietnamese dumplings were a mixed bag. They were great in the fact that the shell was deceptively light and lacked grease. However, the pork filling lacked any flavor, the shell was incredibly under-filled, and the dumpling sauce was also lackluster. Overall a disappointing dish.

Pho was also just okay. The ingredients were good, especially the beef which was not at all dry as can happen in soups. However, the broth was a bit weak. Huge portion size.

House noodles were good but they advertised that it was a beef and chicken combo, and there wasn't even a single piece of beef. Because service was really slow, I didn't bother complaining. Tasty though, with well-prepared noodles, bok choy, and a few other veggies interspersed throughout.

His pork and beef steamed Asian angel hair dish was decent. They used the wrong lettuce for wrapping and I found it to be a bit dull overall. The meat was nicely cooked, and the pork was delicious.

Our fried banana dessert was yummy. It was served with sliced strawberries and ice cream, and drizzled with chocolate sauce. Awesome dessert.

Service really wasn't great. As noted above, we couldn't even complain that the beef was missing from the dish. Our server was a bit surly, although the others seemed friendly.

I may go back and give them another try, but I'll probably give other Vietnamese places in the area a shot first.

BYOB, free refills on soft drinks.

Pho is pho.  I don't want spicy jerk beef ruining the broth.  i don't want chicken in my pho.  I just want my beef and tendons and stuff in my broth cooked in the heat of the broth.  This place is decent but they ruin something that is simple and widely loved.  I had blood pulled from my arm at doctor's and was in need of a fix.  The pho was good but it really should be better. I ordered the iced coffee which was great although I wish they gave you the metal coffee dripper thing instead of the already made coffee.  I don't know why a basic vietnamese restaurant is so hard to find in NJ.

I wanted to give this place a better review, but in all honesty and to honor other restaurants that provide better food experience, I just couldn't.

If you go to a Vietamese, you go for the traditional stuff.  Pho.  I had a great expectation, after reading other reviewers.  It's either other reviewers don't know anything about Pho, or it was a bad-Pho-day for the chef.

IT WAS SWEET BEYOND BELIEF.  PHO IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE SWEET!!!  It just ruined everything.  It didn't even have the basic herbs that usually go into Pho.  If you are going to pay $12 for this, might as well go to Pho32 and get a better Pho for $8.

We ordered BBQ ribs for appetizer, grilled pork chop and Aangel hair noodle with beef.

THEY ARE ALL SO SWEET BEYOND BELIEF.  The beef in Angel Hair was rubbery and tasted like water buffalo meat they tend to use when you are visiting some parts of Asia.

Considering the quality of food, the price was not cheap.  $15 average.

I definitely do not recommend this place.

I'm really happy I found this place since the Vietnamese place I used to frequent in Englewood closed its doors. The ambiance is lovely - dim lighting, beautiful red walls decorated with photos of Vietnam.

I ordered the duck summer rolls which were delicious as were the fried spring rolls. For the main entree, I had the egg noodles with roasted duck and bok choy. Stupendous!

Way better than I expected -- Simply Vietnamese is a fusion interpretation of Vietnamese dishes (the bun, for example, is called "Asian rice noodle salad," and it comes in an enormous salad bowl with far more peanuts than I've ever seen in bun and no bean sprouts -- but the basic idea is the same: cucumbers, carrots, daikon, grilled chicken, nuoc cham.  The pho isn't served with that enormous plate of basil that I'm used to, but in spirit, it's similar.).  The salmon was the winner of the evening - served hot pot style - and cooked to perfection. I wouldn't go here for the most authentic Vietnamese food, but they are doing Western interpretations pretty well.

    Remember: BYOB.
And, probably reservations (especially if you're a bigger party).
Also, not the warmest place, so if it's cool outside, bring a sweater.

Simply Vietnamese is outstanding Vietnamese/Asian cuisine.

The appetizer sampler is one of the best appetizers I've had anywhere.  3 different items, 2 pieces each, and a great price.  Don't miss out on it.

Soups are outstanding.  Important:  these soups, as you can tell from the price, are basically meals.  Unless you plan on splitting one with 1 or 2 other people, it will fill you up. My one problem with SV is that they don't have smaller bowl portions for lunch and dinner for all their soups so you can sample them or have them as an additional pre-meal appetizer.

The menu choices are not as large in quantity as at some Thai or Chinese or Sushi restaurants, but that actually helps newcomers in focusing their minds on what to order.  May I suggest the Spicy Saigon Chicken/Shrimp dishes -- both are outstanding.  There are other dishes with traditional brown spice sauces and some curry dishes to choose from.  If you want one of those large noodle soups, they have them, too.  I split the duck soup with a friend and we both agreed it was outstanding -- and believe me, they don't skimp on the duck/meats so the soups will fill you up !!

Simply Vietnamese is simply outstanding.  A word of caution:  if you go there on a Friday or Saturday night about 7 PM, be prepared to wait.  Yes, the food is that good !!

Finally stopped by after Mo Pho closed down.

I saw the girl working at Mo Pho here, so i know it's connected somehow.
The space is definitely bigger and modern.

Sad note: they didn't give us the shrimp chips when we sat down. I love that stuff! Maybe because we came during lunch? This makes me really really sad.
(I think that alone is why I gave it a 3 instead of a 4- especially since i saw another table with it.)

    The food...
I don't know what to say. It's not my usual pho.
Their bahn mi is decent. But they have a lot of unusual dishes that I don't usually recall in normal Vietnamese places. (My reference is central jersey and Boston)
Never having been to Vietnam, i don't know what's legit.

But i feel like i should be calling this place for vietnamese-fusion than authentic.

Don't get me wrong... the food is pretty good.
If you want to try some Vietnamese but not willing to go all the way, you'll really like this place. And you want to try bok choy/duck/beef jerkey in your pho. This is the spot.

Been there only once... so don't know if I can give a good assessment. But the flavors seem similar to Mo Pho ...

I was worried the recent expansion to 2 store fronts would affect the atmosphere, the food or the service.  After three trips subsequent to the expansion, I am pleased to affirm the food remains great, the new room doesn't change the atmosphere, and the service staff remains great.

Simply Vietnamese remains a great dining option.

Rainy weather makes me seek warm soup. I wanted some mo'pho but since it had closed I needed to find another replacement and lo and behold I found simply vietnamese.

Visited this place for a late lunch on a Thursday and it was surprisingly semi-busy. I love the shrimp crackers with the dipping sauce! I ordered noodle soup with egg noodles and he ordered beef pho.

My noodle soup was filled with grilled chicken, really big shrimp and crisp bok choy in a flavorful broth. The boy enjoyed his pho with extra sriracha sauce per usual.

Ill be back on another rainy day!

    IT GETS EVEN BETTER !!

This was our second visit to Simply Vietnamese. My brother-in-law and his significant Other joined my wife and I, once again, to experience yet another WOW in the taste department! We did BYOB's again; notice more than one :)

For starters: Three different appetizer plates; although all were delicious, the mussels in sauce were outstanding! Forks (and chop sticks) flew across our table as we shared each others' dishes. We were also on our second bowl of those crunchy rice chips with spicy dipping sauce and ate them like Italian bread, LOL.

Despite a full house, our Server managed to deliver ALL of our orders within perfect timing of each other. It should be noted here that Ownership recently completed the acquisition of the space next door, creating an additional dining room; the place was at capacity on a Friday night! Non-stop dining chat filled the room; we never noticed the time and found that we had been at our table for a full 3 hours, unaware that the place had nearly emptied out! Needless to say, our plates did not require much cleaning up at the end of another very enjoyable dining experience.
    Nuff said!

And, like the caption says....."It gets even better...."

(TIP:  Do not be late for your reservation.)

Had I known about this place sooner I would've slayed my pho cravings eating here rather than try to make pho at home!

    The rundown:

    1. Go between lunch and dinner. We decided on 4pm and the place wasn't busy at all! We did not have/need reservations at that time on a Sunday afternoon. But from previous reviews, next time we'll make reservations and won't press our luck.

    2. Love the comp prawn/shrimp chips, but I'd pass on the "dip" they serve with it. Not sure what it was...

    3. Ask what the specials are or take a glance at them on the chalkboard above their register.

    4. Chicken and avocado spring rolls were fresh and stuffed with yumminess and came with delicious peanut sauce.

    5. Pho broth is rich and very flavorful! This came out with a separate plate of raw bean sprouts, chillies, lime wedges and cilantro. Sriracha and hoisin sauce right on the tables.

I wished they had offered us a choice of dinner or lunch since we came at the time they were prepping for dinner. The next diners after us (about 15mins later) were given dinner menus with more/different selections. Also, apparently it was just our luck that we arrived when we did because the early dinner crowd was coming in fast! Began our meal with 1 other customer eating, left with about 9-10 people just beginning their meal and 3 take-out orders. Yes, I counted. :)

Overall, we'll be back to try the dinner options soon!

Best Spicy Peanut Noodles in Bergen County! Being a Vegetarian, I can't always dine at Veggie Heaven (they're kind of sick of looking at me anyway...yet for some reason, they never turn me away...Hmmm). Simply Vietnamese is a lovely alternative to Asian Fusion Cuisine in Northern NJ. And yes, Meat Eaters, there is PLENTY for you to savor.

I can only do take out though: it's waaaay too claustrophobic for me as the dining area is tiny (think smaller than a Manhattan cafe at 8pm on a Friday tiny). I could do without one of the Gentleman who appears to be an Owner as well (I asked to separate meat dishes from Vegetarian dishes in two bags - that was too much to ask of him - sigh). Other than that, the food is consistently fresh and satisfying. The Pad Thai is delicious. And I agree with previous Yelpers on this one: the Vietnamese salad is where it's at! Let's hope they keep it up!

Visited this restaurant last saturday because I read a glowing review on the Record, and it always seemed so busy when I drive by.

I walked in, and instantly realized that the restaurant was tiny. Like really tiny. Like there's-a-table-3-feet-from-the-bathroom tiny. But the decor was nice.

I ordered a noodle salad with beef and my girlfriend had the Pho. We shared a summer roll for the appetizer. The summer roll was great, especially that sweet peanut sauce. The duck in the roll was good, too. Must try.

My girlfriend ordered the Pho with chicken. When it came, it looked underwhelming. In traditional Vietnamese restaurants, they pile the Pho with beef brisket, and beef tendons and beef of all kinds. This only had a few pieces of grilled chicken.

My salad was good, though. The beef was a little burnt, but still delicious.

Great restaurant. I'd only return for the summer rolls, though.

If you are planning on eating in at this tiny, somewhat cramped storefront restaurant, do yourself a favor and at least make a same day reservation.  Choose not to, and you'll face the same fate as the couple who walked in right before we did- they were quoted an hour and fifteen to an hour and a half wait!  Luckily, we were just getting takeout.

Apps:  Duck summer rolls and Shrimp dumplings- both were excellent!! the Duck summer rolls had lots of crisp veggies, cellophane noodles and flavorful duck wrapped in a thin, steamed wrapper.  The peanut sauce was great with it.
The shrimp dumplings were great too- they had a very thin wrap, as opposed to the super doughy dumplings that are often served.  They were very light and came with a thin sweet dipping sauce.

They also included in our order a nice little order of crunchy rice crackers? I think they were either rice or maybe shrimp? They didn't have a strong shrimp taste,  but they had the same texture, and were served with a spicy dipping sauce.

For entrees, we got the spicy beef pho and the pad thai.  The pho was awesome!  Since it was take out, the broth and beef came in one container; the noodles and sprouts were served separately, as were the sauces- mix everything together and enjoy! This was very filling and spicy and was a great meal on a cold winter night.  The pad thai was excellent as well, a little light on the sauce, tho.

We didn't get to try any desserts, as I didn't see them until we had already placed our order- darn!

Our order was ready in about 15-20 mins. This is a great addition to the local restaurant scene.  I'd probably wait until it's warmer and/or less crowded to eat in, though.

I have tried to go to this restaurant twice this past week but have utterly failed. So I figured this place was so awesome I couldn't get in. Today was my third attempt, and because I was eating at 2pm, there was no one there. AWESOME!

My expectations were high going in. The food was way too sweet, especially for Vietnamese food. Even if they say it may be a fusion restaurant, there was still too much sugar to be Asian. It was definitely catered towards a more American palate. I can see why Americans may like it, but it is in absolutely no way authentic.

First we ordered the summer rolls and the Bo Luc Lac Salad. First, the summer rolls were not that good. It was probably the worst I've ever tasted. They were hard to eat and literally..hard. I think either the rice paper had hardened to a sticky construct or there was some funky rice cake business going on. The salad on the other hand was probably the best dish we had. It's not an appetizer, but you can share it with other people. It was just greens with marinated beef on top, soy sauce vinaigrette, and a small piece of bread with garlic butter and coconut. The vinaigrette was distinct and delicious, the beef was tender, and the bread was sumptuous!

For my entree I got the Pho House noodles, which is basically spicy pho (not the siracha kind of spicy). The entree itself was not bad, but again, way to sweet. The other three also commented on how unusually sweet their dishes were. The pad thai was also not very good...probably the worst pad thai I've ever tasted. It was tasteless and way more carrots and bean sprouts than noodles. The House Noodles were okay but again, too sweet.

For dessert we had mango ice cream. They give you 3 wonderfully heavy scoops. I found the ice cream a bit creamy, but not bad. It's was a good finish.

The service was good. Waiters were friendly. The bathroom was weird. There's a mirror hanging so that you can watch yourself do your business...

Ok, first of all, this place, as one of the wait staff told us, is a FUSION restaurant, so don't be expecting straight Vietnamese, cause that's not what this is.  However, IT IS AMAZING!  My husband totally had a foodgasm after eating the duck summer rolls which were freaking outstanding.  They give you those shrimp chips and an awesome spicy sauce, but watch out, those things are addictive.  It is a cute place, but somewhat small, so get there early, we tried to get in once a month or two ago but it was packed and there was a wait.  My husband had the Shrimp Pho and looooved it.  I had the lemongrass chicken and loved it as well.  Seriously, cleaned my plate- the waiter was really nice and very well informed and made us recommendations for next time.
We will definitely be coming back!!!!

Eponymously accurate, this simple shindig produces a satisfying lunch and possibly dinner and though I'd have to say there is definitely room for improvement, I'd come back again for sure.

Had some ribs to start and the chicken Banh Mi and House Noodles to follow.  Both were 3hree's.  Nothing special.  Tasty, sure, but just not exceptional.  I guess if that isn't the goal then it doesn't matter.

It was interesting to dine at a southeast Asian restaurant with not one southeast Asian employee in sight.  One white male server who seemed very green but was nonetheless friendly.  One bigger white male who seemed to be his manager and confirmed that there was indeed ribs available.  Not many diners were present but we went on a quiet, Monday lunch hour.  Apparently, it gets much busier on the weekend as evidenced by these pictures (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Foffthebroiler.wordpress.com%2F2010%2F09%2F19%2Fnj-dining-simply-vietnamese%2F&s=a8b9c07bce3008ef56287d9d5b310afca9cdc4a6160b12ac73a0db42e2a82bd5" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://offthebroiler.wor…</a>).

I guess SV adds another international flavor to the Tenafly lunch scene but doesn't exactly pack the punch as other Viet places do.  I'm from New York.  We got a lot of Viet food.  I wouldn't say I'm hard to please, but I would say that there are culinary standards that should be met.  Here's to hoping that SV matures into that standard.
