I love dive bars, but in the right company I'll take a traddy pub over a dive bar anyday.

I saw drawn to this place as a point of interest being that it's the place of meeting of a favorite married couple friends of mine. I was trying to capture their magic. Jk I was looking to get loaded on heavy beers and shoot the shit with olf friends.

I think the term unassuming may be inaccurate, but from 1 side it's just windows into a non descript tavern/restaurant, but from the complete other side it's a huge patio laden palace of pub-ery.

Dim lighting, hard wood floors, open spaces, stone masoned walls, a fireplace, coat racks, a bar downstairs. Yeah that's a lot of things to look forward to. I personally loved the elk lodge style down below on your way to the bathrooms.

The quirkiness of the bar itself with it's copper/brass sculptures. Whiskies a plenty and a healthy selection of craft and local beers. What I love about them is they have multiple Guinness Tap's.

The bar itself is small as there are a dozen tall tables in the surrounding nooks and crannies I found the service to be helpful and accommodating, until close. Then it's gtfu. Granted I had come here each time around midnight. They gave me some schpeel about we have to have so many people in here and selling so much food to stay open. Granted I'm not from around here, but close the kitchen all you want. I just want to drink on your patio. A firepit would do them nicely. I fully enjoyed them in the summer and could see equal amounts of fun here in Winter. I may not have been from around here, but last call is last call and I did my worst by ordering all the way up until and then 3 last beers at last call. Actually the prices here aren't too bad, but when you are trying to drink your age in Guinness it becomes expensive.

I would gladly come here at a more appropriate hour to start my next pubfest as the décor alone here keeps things fun and interesting.

Really liked this bar! AC was kicking which always makes for a better night. Strong drinks with not too bad of a wait to get one. The one thing I will say is that we arrived at the tail end of trivia night and the questions were SO loud over the mic. Will def return

One of my favorite restaurants in Richmond is Sine, an old world style Irish Pub in a charming old building down near Canal Street. Inside, you'll find wood floors, wood booths, and a large wood bar with great beers on tap including Harp and Guinness. Most of the food is stand "Pub Grub", Bangers and Mash, Fish and Chips, and Sheppard's Pie. I went for the Coffee Rubbed Pork. It was soooo gooood.

The pork was so tender and moist, with a bit of spice from either pepper or chili powder. The coffee taste was subtle and not overpowering. The pork sits on a bed of green string beans and mashed sweet potatoes. The beans were ok, but the potatoes had to have gone through a ricer. They were fluffy, sweet, and fantastic.

    Overall, a great experience.

I feel that I should first preface this poor review with the statement that I rarely give subpar reviews and I sincerely hope that someone is listening. I've gone to this pub only a couple of times over a period of several years before this, but never solely to eat. Perhaps Sine is simply more focused on drinking (which is ok). Here it goes.

My wife and I went here for lunch on a recent Sunday afternoon. The place was perhaps half full. I really couldn't get a grasp for why the service was so terribly slow. It even got so bad that tables were getting up and talking to each other about it. In fact, I must admit that I even chimed in and joked with the table beside me as we were both getting very frustrated. I don't know if they were just shortstaffed or what the problem was. Our server was running around like a chicken with his head cut off. I joked with the other table that he must've been doing all of the work and the entire restaurant. Based on how slow the service was, it's a very plausible statement.

When you are running a "pub", it's inconceivable that you would leave patrons sitting at tables without any drinks for extended period of time with no acknowledgment. I even had to ask my server for my same drink twice because he forgot. I saw another table that was there for lunch get up and try to track someone down so they could simply pay and leave the restaurant. It just seemed like there was no management or cohesion.

I have to say to say that the food, once it finally arrived, was pretty subpar. But, once again, maybe that's just not their thing.

One more thing which I realize might be simply personal taste. I've been in many Irish bars over the years (including in Dublin). I felt that the Irish folk music the were playing was pretty hokey. I could really care less about Ms. O'Leary's cow. But, there may be some of you who love that music. If so, this is your place.

Sine, my first visit was almost a decade ago. You really let me down after I was playing up the place to my wife (who had never been there before).

I want to give more than 3 stars because of how unique the restaurant is but the food was only sub par. Standard pub fare.
The bar was large and a lot of t.v's. It is a fun place to come for some beers but don't expect to have Harp on tap or a bottle. The service was good.

I have been to Sine tons over the years. This has been a great place for me to go as a younger adult looking for something other than a night club. The music scene has really picked up and they typically have decent bands in there. The bar staff is very friendly and accomidating for such a large crowd. The food has always been very blah. I would chalk that up to being Irish American food. The major turnoff for me has been the other staff. After last week's antics by the bouncers I will never step foot in Sine again and I reccomend that you do not either. I dont know where they get these steiroided gorillas from but they are really giving the bar a bad name. I have seen them smack women and drag then from the bar for nothing more than eating a cherry from the bar station. This past weekend I watched them grab a patron, who was sitting at the bar, by the neck and throw him in the street for absolutely nothing. The bouncer thought it was hilarious. The hired goon, AKA Richmond Police officer then slammed the patron through the front window of the bar. When the window caved in on other patrons who were sitting in a front booth, the same bouncer grabbed the innocent patron in the booth by the neck tie and jerked him through the open hole in the window. This was completely unacceptable. Ownership at Sine needs to reevaluate their security tactics before somebody gets injured or worse. I am sure their will be legal actions as a result of this past weekend. Again, I would reccomend that people avoid Sine at all cost, unless you want to get thrown out by your head or neck tie.

Two words: IRISH NACHOS. It's what has me coming back for years!

I wasn't too crazy about the fish and chips. I lived in New Zealand for a good while and once you've had NZ fish and chips, the rest pale in comparison. I will say that the portions were large enough to split between a friend and me.

The reuben was delicious, and the portion huge. And once again, I say: IRISH NACHOS. I could have gorged on those and been satifised.

I really love the location and the interior is BEAUTIFUL. I hear that the stone work was done in Ireland, then brought over here specifically for Sine? Could be wrong; like I said, hearsay :)

Ate here for the first time this past weekend and am glad we did. My husband and I like Irish pubs so we had to go here while visiting Richmond. My husband had a Murphy's Amber and I had Magners Cider. Both were good. For food we had an appetizer of fried pickles. I loved them! They do pickle spears instead of chips, which is how I like them. They came with spicy ranch which was a little too hot for me, but our server also brought regular ranch just in case the spicy ranch was too spicy. Which was awesome considering we didn't even ask for it. As for main dishes I just got their Mighty Wedge, regular size, and it was big. Much more than I excepted but it was really good. Especially the homemade croutons. My husband got the Reuben with a side of their pasta salad. He really enjoyed his and offered me a bite. The corned beef was so yummy and tender.
Great customer service and delicious food. Next time we're in Richmond we'll definitely go back to Sine!

I went to Sine Irish Pub on a Saturday night to enjoy some music and drinks. There was a band playing live music which was cool. The band did a good job. The bar area was crowded so I sat at a table. I order the salt & vinegar fried potato chips appetizer. The potato chips were tasty. The appetizers are reasonably priced. Sine has Angry Orchard on tap. The service was good. My waiter was attentive. There are some televisions throughout the bar. I really like the layout of the pub. Sine has a social atmosphere. The dress code is casual. There's a huge patio area for customers. Sine Irish Pub is a good choice for drinks and live music. I give Sine Irish Pub a 3.5 rating on my first visit.

Can't review this place in much detail. I'm usually hammered by this time. I remember stumbling in a handful of occasions and Sine's did a wonderful job keeping the momentum going and getting us taxi's home later on. College crowd, frats and sororities, loads of fun!

Great pub atmosphere for Carytown and loved the CheezIt pasta. Do you want to go for the best, most delicious meal ever? No but that doesn't mean it's not a great place to try. I would go back for sure but more for a fun, casual place. The fried pickles were great as well and you get full spears as opposed to pickle chips. Those alone could fill you up which I liked. Definitely a place to at least try.

I LOVE Sine.  It has become the go-to post race spot for us after running one of Richmond's races (because lately that's the reason we get down to Richmond).

The fish and chips here are what I measure all other fish and chips by.  The fish portion is huge.  I always have trouble finishing the chips after devouring the fish.  No thin floppy fish here.  You get two thick cuts of white fish.  The tartar sauce has great flavor too.

Great atmosphere!  There are cute little places to sit niched out all over the place.  If time wasn't a factor I'd love to just camp out here on a cold wet winter's day and enjoy an adult beverage...or two or three.

One of the most disappointing dinners I have ever had. The food had the potential to be amazing, and it was really below par. I got the spare rib mac and cheese and my fiance got the brie sandwich, and neither was worth finishing, despite our hunger.

This place is a fun Saturday night destination. It was the first place I went out when I moved to Richmond. I always have a fun time. I've come for food and it's nothing exceptional, just your typical bar food. If you are looking for a culinary revolution in this place, you will want to move along. If you are looking for outstanding service, you may also want to keep moving. This is a good bar spot and they have live music which is also fun. Anything more and you need to keep looking.

Irish Nachos! You must get the Irish Nachos when you come. they're potatoes with green onions, cheddar cheese, jalapeños, bacon and ranch. This is a fun place to go for drinks/bar food. They make a great burger and have good happy hour specials.

I'm giving it one star since I can't give it a half. I was visiting friends in Richmond, and we decided a good Irish bar would the perfect convivial place to conclude my stay.
What a complete disappointment! We sat at the bar around 8:30. The bar was pretty dead and we looked forward to good drinks and good service. Wrong!
The drinks were ok but the bartenders were dreadful. Self-absorbed with their fellow employees, even our most engaging questions ( redskins vs. cowboys) resulted in the most indifferent of responses (don't care).
The biggest tips and loyalty don't always come from great food and drink. It's the service that makes the difference. I would rather tip 30% for  mediocre  food and drink and GREAT service then the other way around.

NEVER AGAIN WOULD I GO HERE....So I attended the annual  Santacon Event at this place last night and as my husband and I sat talking while drinking our beers a bouncer comes up to me and says that I need to leave. I looked at him with confusion and asked why. Well apparently his manager saw me falling asleep so I had to leave because of this, Huh???? How could I have been falling asleep if me and my husband were clearly deep in conversation,,I couldnt believe that I was asked to leave for NO APPARENT REASON...well I decided that  instead of me arguing my case with the bouncer, hubby and I  got up and walked out. SINE will never have to worry about seeing me again.

My girlfriend and I went here for lunch on a Saturday and really enjoyed it!  The decor and overall vibe was great, and it even had the authentic pub smell.  I had some great fish and chips.  Best I can remember she had a chicken sandwich.  Both entrees were great and well portioned.  Service was great as well.  I've been here a few times and always look forward to coming back anytime I'm in Richmond.

I eat here often - this is one of my favorite stops! My staple favorites on the current menu would be the It's not you It's Brie, Fish & Chips, and Irish Nachos. I've always had superb service here and do NOT frequent on busy nights (not a big drinker, so I avoid the time frames when the bar is full of them).

Been coming here for 3 years. I probably eat here once a month. Not sure why everyone else is bagging on this place - I always have hot food, good service, and an overall great experience. I also try to ask for Nick as my waiter - he makes everyone feel at home.

    OMG, this place was yummy.
My cousin and I started with the pumpkin patch salad which was allright. It was a little warm for my taste (salad's should be cold)
My cousin and I both ordered fish and chips and we could have split it. The fish was good. Not overcooked.
We also had shipyard pumpkin ale which was yummy.
For dessert we had the The Irish car bomb cake which was delicous. I would go back just for the dessert. It started to get really crowded when we were leaving. Seems like a bar place and maybe a good place to spend st. patty's day.

Walking around Richmond, we saw the menu from the street, and were tempted with exquisite descriptions of mouth-watering Irish food. If only Sine could cook as well as they could write! My companion ordered a shrimp bisque "hand-crafted" soup, but it tasted more like something that came out of a can or box. The appetizer of fried pickles was OK, but rather overpriced. Our two entrees were both cold in several places, a strong indicator they were sloppily microwaved. The "Winter Root Vegetable Cottage Pie", which was on the menu as "seasonal root vegetables sautéed until tender and baked with mashed sweet potato crust", should more aptly be described as cold and hard (barely cooked and still crunchy) potatoes hiding under an ugly scoop of old mashed sweet potato, microwaved until lukewarm. The potato gnocchi tasted leagues worse than a pre-cooked meal coming from a supermarket, and the sauce was cold and most definitely not made-in-house... or if it was, maybe months ago and frozen!

Service was also not a redeeming quality... the servers didn't seem to care and the water was never refilled. Overall, this place might be decent as a bar, but the Irish would be embarrassed by the restaurant calling it "Irish" food... on the bright side, perhaps Virginia's obesity problem could be solved by more people eating (or at least attempting to eat) here.

Drove out to Richmond to actually enjoy the city, not just to land at the airport.

Being that this is my first time in VA, we've been doing a lot of touristy things. After taking the canal walk boat tour (or whatever it's called), we were hot & hungry. First off, why are there so many restaurants closed on a Sunday? We walked up & down to find a place open, and we ended up here.

The menu looked good, but our meals fell way short! I ordered the fish & chips, the BF the shrimp & grits. Both were super greasy, and my fish was lost in the batter. I don't know about you, but when you find a place that serves "the best (whatever it may be)", it's hard for other places to meet that expectation. Whatever fish they used is all wrong! It was way too flakey and shy of that meaty fish I like for fish & chips. Halibut would be a better choice! The one plus of my meal was the huge mimosa I had. I've never had a mimosa served in a regular beer glass with ice, but hey, I'm not complaining! The other plus was our appetizer, the fried speared pickles. That was probably the best part of both our meals.

BONUS: I know this may not mean much to you locals, but this establishment has toilet seat covers - score! (I've been here for about 2 weeks now, from California, and I noticed you Southerners don't believe in toilet seat covers. This is the FIRST place I've been to that had some, so it got me a little excited! LMAO!!!)

I had my last small group session today for our clinical course, and our group leader decided to treat us to lunch! We decided on Sine since it was within walking distance from campus.

We had a group of 10 and were seated to the right of the entrance after you walk in, at the three high tables (we pushed them together and divided ourselves among the booth and chair seats). Sine definitely has a very pub/tavern feel. I recall Irish music being played throughout the entire meal as well; the friend sitting directly to my right got really into the music at one point and nearly started to jig.

There is wood and old trinkets spread out throughout the restaurant, and the restroom downstairs had wooden stalls and beams. The stainless steel sinks in particular reminded me of the lavatories on airplanes, only supersized. :D

We had a very friendly waitress throughout the meal, although I don't remember her name. She eavesdropped on our meal-time conversation, and added that she had lost 150 pounds on the South Beach Diet, down from a previous 300-pound weight (we were talking about diet and nutrition). Great for her; that is quite an accomplishment! =)

Sadly, I wasn't very impressed by the food. The dishes were a bit expensive given the quality of the food, although the large portion sizes helped make up for it. I ordered the Meat and Potato Pasta (pot roast w/potato gnocchi) and a cup of soup. I thought I had ordered the daily soup (which was carrot and ginger), but I ended up getting served something resembling a baked potato soup. It was tasty (more so than my main dish), although it had a ton of bacon in it. My gnocchi was just eh. My main course overall wasn't very hot when it arrived. The peas were not very pretty and had the consistency and taste of microwaved frozen peas. The pot roast was somewhat dry and nowhere near the juicy, tender texture that I expect out of a good pot roast. The gnocchi were very yellow and grainy, instead of smooth and chewy (I much prefer the gnocchi at Sette).

Overall, a mediocre meal with a fun group of people (I wasn't paying so no complaints there), but I probably won't be back, at least not for the food.

Food is Marginal and/or mediocre.  Never had anything bad, but never had anything that I want to come back for.  Beer selection is un-exicting -- they have all the staples you would expect at an "Irish Bar", but nothing surprising or new.

Yes there is a back patio, which is nice.  And apparently they get "good bands" on the weekends -- so says a 22 year-old friend of mine. I would take that endorsement with a grain of salt.

To me, this place embodies "Meh."

We were drawn in by the promise of a beer outside on a beautiful spring day. Despite asking for a table on the patio and waiting for it, we were seated at a table in a covered porch. I wasn't gonna complain, because it was obvious there wasn't one open actually outside, but had I know that was what we were waiting for we wouldn't have waited.

This... and the marginal food... isn't really the reason for a single star. I'm giving them that because my credit card magically disappeared in the few hours between us eating there and me calling back once I realized I'd forgotten it. For the record, I take full responsibility for leaving my card there. It was a stupid mistake (one I'd never made before) but it was an honest mistake. When I realized it was missing a few hours later and called them to ask about, they said they didn't have it. Yes, I'm fairly certain it was there. No, there's really no way I lost it somewhere else. I haven't lost a credit card, cell phone or wallet... ever... and I'm all OCD about my stuff so I say with a decent amount of confidence I left it in with the bill. Maybe it's just me, but I would have expected them to still have it and I can't in good conscience recommend an establishment that didn't. Judging from the other reviews here, I guess I should be that surprised.

The second day my mother was in town, after getting my glasses, we went to Sine Irish Pub in Shockoe Slip for lunch.
It was fairly uneventful and we didn't order much - my mom got the tomato, cheddar, and bacon soup as an appetizer and we shared the It's Not You It's Brie sandwich, which consisted of roast turkey, baked brie, and "winter fruit" which was baked apples, pears, and cranberries.  When the waitress brought it out, she had split the sandwich and fries into equal portions and put them on separate plates for us, which was very nice.  The sandwich was delicious, I am not generally a fan of cooked fruit but it was a nice complement to the turkey and brie.  Very flavorful.

Bathrooms: Men, Women.  In the Men's, either 2 or 3 urinals, 2 stalls, and a couple sinks.  One of the stalls was posted out of order at the time.

I'm definitely a fan of the outdoor seating. Waitstaff is always very good and the few apps I've tried have been great (fried pickles, calamari, chips). The hummus was a little too smokey-flavored for me, but my friend loved it.

I think the atmosphere is really cozy and the patrons are a fun bunch. Of course, I've never been late night. As far as lunch and afternoon go, this spot is perfect for meeting up with friends and having a few cold ones.

    Got wasted.
Told the bartender to F Off.
    Slapped some girl's booty.
    Went to the bathroom.
Bumped into everyone on the way there.
Acted loud and obnoxious, super classless.
Bouncers grabbed me and tried to throw me out.
    Can't remember anything else.
Woke up in an alley with dirty underwear.
    I'm getting a lawyer.

Irish?  Only if the fact that you serve Guinness qualifies you as an Irish Pub these days.  The menu has fish & chips and a shepherd's pie (made with beef, not the more correct lamb), but other than that the fare has nothing to qualify it as Irish.  Disappointing if you're expecting to find bangers & mash or steak & mushroom pie.  Do try the bread pudding for dessert, though.  By far the best part of our meal.

Quaint environment, with lots of little corners where the wait staff will be sure not to find you.  Loud and overcrowded during peak times, so don't go there for a quiet chat during those hours.

Way too loud, way too crowded, way too impersonal (and 1 rude) barstaff, and a terribly poured Guinness.

I like that this place has the option of live music and such a unique setting but by no means would consider it a pub. If anything it's just an American Night Club that sells Guinness and bad food (i.e. Irish).

So Brit and my second annual trip started off with a bang. After checking in at the hotel and then heading East on Cary in the heart of the canal district we came upon Sine Irish Pub. We had been here a year prior and a bit too late to sample any fare. This year we walked in on the same Thursday night filled with apprehension. Apprehension because a year prior it was Karaoke night, and I am not a big drunken singing fan.

A DJ was set up and was playing a great mix of different music so ease set in and as we were seated it looked like things were taking a turn for the better.

Our server Natalie came up to the table and took our drink orders-a Double Jack and Diet for me and a Stoli and Soda for Brit. Standard Irish pub food stared us in the face from the menu. Natalie mentioned that the "Flight of Sliders" was a base of Crab fritters with differing condiments on top. Served in small yeasty rolls they each had their own flavors that brought out different aspects of the fresh crab fritter. One served standard "burger" with fresh onion, bibb lettuce and a slice of farm fresh tomato, another with a Pesto avocado and for the life of me I can't recall what was in the last one. All three were served over "Chippers", their version of homemade chips.

Brit had a Turkey cheese burger which she raved about. I had a few bites and was impressed by the bold flavors of the turkey and the sheer "sloppiness" of it being a true burger. Juicy, tasty and all together extremely satisfying.

Our night was rounded out by a great and personable server-Natalie. For some reason we luck out with damn near awesome waitstaff when we come to Richmond. We asked Natalie about the background of the chef to which she provided a lot of in depth info. We also discussed the Sous chef's background. We inquired about the city and that we've only really explored the canal district. She came to us with a map and started giving us a historical/music/food tour of the city of Richmond. Sitting writing this today at the Urban farmhouse I came upon the realization that this city reminds me so much of Berkeley with a Southern speed. (Urban Farmhouse review forthcoming).

She gave us two great recommendations for brunch and dinner. Those write ups are also coming.

Sine, while being a rather open floor planned Irish pub has some great food and from what I know, one exceptional waitress. I wish her all the luck in the world and hope all of you have the luxury of having her as your server.

I'm going to split this review into what I like and don't like about Sine.

    Like:
    - The bar is big, and although the place fills up, you can usually squeeze in somewhere and get some service.

    - Bartenders are usually friendly/helpful.

    - It seems to attract a slightly older, less skeevy crowd than some of the other Slip bars.

    - There's a lot of seating, so even if you go on a Friday or Saturday night, you can often find a place to sit if you want to.

    - They often have good bands and there's a space where you can dance if you want (all in all, this place is big, which is cool).

    - There's a decent selection of on-tap beers. Not great, but better than your average bar.

    - There's a big patio with lots of room to spread out.

    - The St. Patrick's Day celebration: you've got to go early because as the day goes on the line stretches around the block. They set up multiple bars in and outside with big tents in back and it's just a fun day to hang out there. I kind of wish they'd get actual Irish music instead of playing canned music, though.

    What I don't like:

    - The food is mediocre. I've never had anything terrible, but nothing's been really good here either. There isn't a ton of real Irish food on the menu besides the standard corn beef and fish and chips (which tend toward soggy). I would eat here if I was at the bar and hungry, but wouldn't ever actually go here to eat.

    - About 2 weeks ago I left a pair of designer sunglasses here. I called the next day and the person I spoke with said they were there, in the safe and waiting for me, and to take my time coming in because they'd be there. It took me about a week and a half to get in to get them as I was starting a new job, was pretty busy and don't live down town. When I stopped in, they were gone. I know I should have stopped in sooner, but this just leaves a sour taste in my mouth since it pretty much denotes that someone who works there took them home.

Usually Sine is my go-to for a night in the slip. After the sunglasses snafu, I'm not sure I'll head back, though.

Why, oh why, do people only go to an Irish pub on St. Patty's Day? Are you people masochists? You can't park anywhere in the Bottom, the number of amateur drunks who might throw up green beer on your shoes have multiplied exponentially by one million, and it will take you at least one hour to belly up to the bar for a drink.

I love this place and I go often for lunch or happy hour after a spot of Euro-shopping at La Diff. It makes me think of Dublin and shopping on Grafton Street, and then popping into a pub for a pint.

A lot of Siné's interior was shipped across the pond so it's fairly authentic, although not nearly as dark and smoky as a real Irish pub. They do have good traditional music at night, and I like the fish and chips, as well as being able to get a Harp or a Carlsberg if I'm in the mood.

This bar is amateur in every single way.  The food is unoriginal and done poorly, fries are almost as terrible as Starlite.  The crowd is made of people who show up here acting hammered after chugging 6 watered down rum and cokes at Tobacco Co. happy hour.  This amateur crowd then dances to the live music, which is worse than a middle school "Battle of the Bands" runner up on most occasions.  Getting a drink when the bar is crowded is like trying to convert the pope to voodoo, typical of every bottom bar except Blackfinn.

The only reason Sine doesn't get a 1 star is because 2 years ago I saw the bouncers actually throw a kid out the door onto the cobblestones, which was hilarious.

Just got back from there this evening and was pleasantly surprised.  Got to the bar (all wood as typical for most Irish pubs), ordered up some bacon potato soup that was covered in shredded cheddar cheese and scallions, with some bacon shavings.  Could have been hotter temp wise, but very good.  Cubed chunks of potato and bacon flavor throughout.  For dinner got the corned beef and cabbage.   Not your typical stuff with the horseradish/parsley cream sauce you might see at other places, but served in it's own broth.  Real brined corned beef with sliced potatoes and cabbage that had a bite but still stewed very well.  Some grain mustard around the plate to dip in.  The corned beef just fell apart and was very tender, and the whole thing was very good.

I've eaten at Irish pubs all over the country due to traveling (don't let my Yelping fool ya.. I've only been doing this for about 5 months and I've traveled the US extensively for the last 4yrs for work) and this one was pretty darn good.  I'd definitely come back here if I'm ever in Richmond again.

The bar had a pretty mellow vibe for 7pm on a Monday.. some Irish tunes wafting in the background.  The bartender didn't pour a very good Guinness, but not many can.

Same old pub grub you would get anywhere in the US only they try to dress it up and charge more.  Corned Beef and Cabbage is hard to screw up, except I got 4 little ass knobs of dried meat.   Karaoke downstairs (thank God)

Another reason to dislike the place:  smoking at the bar.

Am I that old? Im in my thirties but on a recent Thursday nite this place made me feel hella old!! College nite it is, flip flops and backward caps a plenty.

Went here since it was the only place open after 11pm with my coworkers, and for sure it was college nite. Lots o'kids singing karoake, it was cool until the dj put on some backstreet boys.. wtf?

Barkeeps were nice, would like to check it out again next time in in the VA

This place is bigger than I thought. I went on a weekend night - again, a stop on our bar crawl- and there were multiple instances of the group getting lost/separated inside. Lots of people, lots of seating, a wide selection of beer (ugh... what do you expect?), dim lighting, and live music. Kudos on the live music. They were pretty good and the singer was engaging- talking to the crowd every so often.

An Irish pub really isn't my scene, but this place was decent. I wouldn't spend my whole night here, but it was a nice change of pace to the night.

Apparently this is the only place open to eat lunch on Saturday downtown or Shockhoe Slip. I was a little surprised that even Quizno's was closed, but I guess most of the restaurant traffic in this area comes from weekday lunch crowds when people are working.

I was pleasantly surprised at how cool this place was and the service was fantastic. The entire restaurant smells like cedar (or some other type of wood) and there is a large bar and lots of large tables with semi-private booths. Even though this is an Irish pub, I stayed away from some of their Old World dishes and had a cheesesteak. It was quality.

So, I had never been in a Virginian Irish bar before, but now I'm pretty sure that they aren't so different from Yankee Irish bars, except for the "southern gentlemen..."

    What I Found at Sine's:

    1. Yummy car bombs and some par Jack & Cokes.

    2. The guy who keeps on repeating that he considers himself a southern gentleman as though that is going to change his round, red, pig- faced looks into the man of my dreams.

    3.  The guy who just broke up with his girlfriend last week after four years.  Of course he was going to propose to her and of course she was cheating on him.  And for some reason he's going to buy my double Jack and Diets until last call...

    4.  The guy who just keeps staring.

    5.  The rednecks.

    6.  The rich kids.

    7.  A sea of polo shirts.

    8.  The North Face & flip- flops guy who my friend wanted to sleep with and as her out-of-town guest I had to tag along and sleep on the guy's couch.  And might I mention that it was the most torturous couch I have ever slept on.  Curses.
