Love this place! We go about every other week and are recognized every time. This is a great neighborhood Bar/Restaurant. The staff is so friendly, and food is always what we expect. If your are not into loud places make sure you get here before 9pm on Fridays, the karaoke is a fun Bar atmosphere, not restaurant atmosphere. If you do happen to come after 9pm on a Friday and need a little quiet they have a great patio!
Review Source:We ate at Sloan's for the first time tonight. It has been on my "to try" list for a long time and we finally made it tonight. I didn't imbibe, but they have a great looking bar. Overall, I wasn't dissatisfied but I also wasn't blown away. The ambiance is pleasant - "warm" - lots of dark wood. Our server was pleasant but the service was slow. They weren't busy but it was a while before we were waited on at all, and then we waited for our appetizer, our entrees, and ultimately our check. The food was good but not particularly memorable. I had the fish and chips which was fine, but if you want fish and chips in Edgewater, you should definitely go to GB's just a few blocks away (my mistake - not Sloan's - I should have known better). Our party also had the Big Ben burger and a chicken salad sandwich - those both seemed somewhat more "memorable" than the fish and chips, and the hot wings we had for an appetizer were really pretty good. Sloan's is by no means an expensive restaurant, but some of the items seemed a couple of bucks too high. The Big Ben burger and chicken salad sandwich were reasonably priced at a few pennies under $10, but the hot wings seemed a little high at $9 for just 8 wings (not whole wings) and the fish and chips seemed high too at $12 for just 3 fairly small pieces of fish and fries.
I will definitely go back and try Sloan's again - I wasn't impressed enough to really like it, but I was impressed enough to want to really like it. One thing that did impress me was their stash of board games - apparently to grab a game and play while you wait, eat or after dinner. It wouldn't appear that they intend to rush you just so they can turn your table. So maybe they're not all that slow after all? Maybe it's just me? Maybe I just need to chill a little.
Delicious brunch! Make your own bloodies... Cinnamon waffle is good...chicken and waffles is seriously more delicious than you would expect, and I always get the pulled pork Benedict. The pork is okay, but the entire package with pork/ eggs/hash browns/hollandaise/corn bread/cholula mix is awesome.
Review Source:I really enjoy Sloan's. I was somewhat surprise to learn that the owners were also the same group that has The Glenn and Teller's Tap Room...But I probably shouldn't be, since the aforementioned are also two of my neighborhood favorites.
Sloan's sets itself apart from the pack with their seafood selection. Their oysters and shrimp boil are pretty solid options. The drinks are always great and they have nice specials too.
I went here for the first time with my Husband's "actor buddies" after a show, and I loved it! Â It's very cozy, friendly, plenty of seating, wood everywhere, mason jars for non-alcohol drinks, they have pool tables in the back and it's pretty large.
They have an outside patio area if you have a big group (It's covered at night) and it's in the middle of a nice neighborhood. Â Our drinks were a little 'tame' but the food was excellent; they even separated the fixings for the nachos because one person in our group had allergies. Â You HAVE to try the artichoke appetizer - SO GOOD! *remember not to eat the whole leaf* lol!.
Our waitress was less desirable though.  Talking about angry, impatient and not very nice -- I think she had a date or something, because we closed the place out  and she was quick to wave us off once she got her tip. :-
All n all, this is a great place to bring friends and hang out! I'd like to go back, but earlier in the day when the waitresses aren't so grumpy.
Sloan's is a good little Edgewater neighborhood tavern not in my neighborhood.
Families and groups of friends hang out at the generously spaced tables. Hipster couples and lone drinkers, along with cops from the police station across the street, drop in and out.
The servers are sweet and congenial, if not a little harried.
The food is cheap and filling (had the daily special surf and turf 8 oz flatiron topped with shrimp). Worth it at $12.99. As were the $3.75 draft pints of Newcastle.
So I've found yet another beer arrow to place in my trusty quiver of fun-packed alcohol drinkin' hangouts. Bottom line . . . Give'm a try when you're next sentenced to spend some time in Edgewater.
Haven't been in a while but Sloan's was my go to place when I lived around Sloan's Lake and even now that I live about 20 minutes away, it's still worth the drive for me. It's a hidden gem of a neighborhood bar in Edgewater. Love the atmosphere and decor inside. Also nice to sit on the patio in warmer weather. Gives you exactly what you need and nothing more. Food is always decent and their burger's are my favorite. I love that they bring you the condiment tray, which means I can put as many darn pickles on my burger as I please, and that is A LOT. I love the look of the bar and they used to have 2 for 1 happy hour, where they gave you a little token for your second drink that you could use anytime. Don't know if they are still doing that, but I know they've introduced a Bloody Mary bar on Sundays. Also have trivia night and occaisional live music.
Review Source:Sloan's is exactly what I look for in a local bar. Â It's a corner spot in a great neighborhood with a very friendly atmosphere and staff. Â I wold wager that if you aren't having a good time at Sloan's, you are most likely dead or in need of serious medication.
It has a very " Old West Saloon" look on the inside, and there's lots of room for small and large parties. Â We came here on New Years Eve about 9:30, it was pretty packed at the bar but they had our table ready for us. Â It actually cleared up a bit within an hour. Â The service was great, and come 11:45 the bar poured a free glass of champagne for everybody. Â I didn't have any food, but what I saw and smelled at my table was pretty tempting. Â
I also like all the different specials they offer here. Â Good deals on food and drinks every night and there's also trivia, karaoke, and live music on different nights. Â Oh, and something of particular note, I ordered an Old Fashioned and that bartender knew how to make that perfectly! Â (So I ordered another.)
This truly is one of the best spots in Denver! Â Cheers!
Thank you for the Mason jar full of pickles as a standard condiment on the table, I really like pickles and I appreciate that I didn't have stretch three little slices through an entire burger. Â Thumbs up on location and beer (although I was disappointed that your server wasn't more aware of the types of beer and where they are from).
Review Source:Sloan's bar has okay food, but it is overall overpriced. The happy hour drink and food deals are the best reason to come to this place.
The service is inconsistent. Some times you get great bar service, and sometimes, you don't. Same with table service.
The atmosphere is good and building beautiful.
Being a regular at Teller's Taproom, I decided to give their sister establishment a try. I figured I already like the service I get at one, the other will be just as great. I do have to say while the owners are the same, the atmosphere between the two are similar yet completely different. Not that it's a bad thing.
The menu here seems to be a bit bigger. More options and sweet potato fries. I love sweet potato fries. The food is also really good in general.
The beer selection isn't huge. This was my only major disappointment. I am a fan of craft beer and while there were some craft beers on tap, it's not very many. I did get a Lucky U IPA and the particular day I was in there, it also included a free pint glass from Breckenridge Brewery. That was perfect since they are one of my favorite breweries in this city.
The staff was very friendly and attentive. They were quick to come around with another drink and to make sure we had everything we needed. They had games for the kids and a giant Mr. Potato Head. The kid in me fought the urge to play with it. Also, they have Geeks Who Drink for the pub quiz which I'm definitely a fan of. We did have to ask them to raise the house sound so we could hear better, but that wasn't the end of the world. They were happy to oblige.
I definitely loved the atmosphere of this place, they have a lot of seating, and depending on where you sit, it feels very private. I'll definitely be back again soon.
Karaoke on Fridays is awesome!! Â Tons of songs, not a ton of singers, so if you are a singer this is the place for you, I get to sing at least 4-5 songs in a night. Â It's awesome. Â The food is really good too! Â They usually have drink specials. Â And they have activities going on other than karaoke such as trivia on wednesdays (i think??). Â It's a good place, especially if you live in the neighborhood.
Review Source:Updating with four stars and giving the benefit of the doubt.
Times is tough; despite a report here and there that unemployment is decreasing (or at least holding steady) and jobs are on the rise, gas is still pushing $4/gallon. Â The cost of goods have increased across the board, and there are still people who've not seen a raise since, oh, 2008 when this mess first began.
And few are immune--including Sloan's Bar & Grille. Â Happy Hour martinis are now $5 (still an okay deal), and they've changed their menu prices a bit. Â Burgers and sandwiches now include fries (reflected in the cost). Â Daily specials still exist; I'm not sure how the prices have changed (or not) since the last time I was in.
Service is still just fine. Â However, last night we were in for dinner (around 7:15pm) and after ordering we were told they were out of regular fries. Â We were offered sweet potatoes fries (or other sides) at no extra charge, but this wouldn't cut it for me. Â I've been in the biz so I get that stuff happens, but it was just unfortunate timing. Â I really wanted those fries :p
Instead I had a bowl of the vegetarian tomato bisque. Â The bisque here isn't super creamy, kind of chunky, with tomato skins. Â Flavor is good, but it's different from what I (and maybe most people) would imagine as tomato bisque. Â It comes with a piece of grilled Texas toast and a sprinkling of white cheese on top.
Overall, we'll still visit again because the service and the food are all still fine. Â I just really hope next time they have enough fries to feed hungry, hungry hippo over here!
I visit this place alot. It is a very short walk from my Brothers house.
Love it! The burgers are great and I highly recommend brunch. They had some pretty severe staff changes last year and the burgers have been shrinking so I'm stickin' with brunch these days. (the eggs benie is really good)
The staff remains super awesome. Eat here.
I like Sloan's Bar & Grille almost enough to give it four stars. If my burger hadn't been small for the price and if they hadn't been chintzy on the utterly delicious fries, then I would have been happier. Still, this place reminded me of the bar in Cheers (for those of you old enough to remember Cheers). I was just waiting for Diane and Sam to walk through the door.
The atmosphere and decor are just what you would want, and expect at a neighborhood bar and grille with the addition of lots of natural light streaming through the very large front windows.
Happy hour build your own Bloody Mary's for $3 is a reasonable deal especially given they supply you with all the fixing's you could ever want.
At 2pm on a Saturday afternoon, Sloan's was crowded enough to make it seem friendly but not packed or overly noisy.
Five stars for the service as our server never missed a beat.
I will try Sloan's again but will need to be wow'd by the food in order to give it the four stars it might deserve.
$1.375 for draft PBR. Liquid goodness. Let's hear it for Happy Hour (1400-1800 daily).
I like Sloan's and just wish that the food was better. Our bacon cheeseburger with fries at $9.25 was small. Medium well and not medium rare as ordered. The fries seem like a 1/2-portion. Charge me $9.25 for a [Park Burger, Highland Tap & Burger] burger and fries and you have my heart (until it clogs up).
The condiments tray was superb. Pickles, jalapeños, ketchup, mustard, etc. I ate a bunch of jalapeños.
The service was excellent. Attentive and friendly on a lazy Saturday afternoon.
The atmosphere is perfect for a local neighborhood bar/eating house.
+ free Wi-Fi.
Another reason why I love my neighborhood. Â I'll admit, I'm probably biased because I can stumble home from here, but the service is incredibly friendly and the food consistently good. Â The owners used a lot of salvaged materials when building the bar (I love the booths made from pews), so its full of old, dark wood which makes it smell great and feel really inviting.
We are regulars for Wednesday nights with Geeks Who Drink and enjoy the New Castle pint special. Â I often come for lunch when I'm craving a burger (I go for a basic burger made with fresh, local beef but My Honey raves about the Royal Burger) and appreciate that this is a bar that I am comfortable going to alone. Â There are nightly food and drink specials and live music on Sunday nights. Â In the city of Edgewater, its hard for smokers to find a warm spot to puff in the winter, but Sloan's has a nice little heated patio for those folks.
When with friends, the smoked salmon app is nice to share and considering my weakness for pasteurized processed cheese product, I also love their queso dip.
I got too excited with the bloody mary bar, dumped tons of good options in to my glass and then barely had enough room for a straw! Oops.
Here are the ways I have dined at Sloans: Sunday brunch (excellent service and food), weekday lunch with co-workers (never a wait, quick and friendly service), dinner with my man (great food, lots of variety.)
If the back lot is full, you can always find parking just a few steps away from the front door.
Can I just say "I F'ing dig this place" and leave it at that? No? What more do you need to know?
Set a good 6 blocks west of Sheridan, Sloan's isn't hard to find, but the extra distance from the hubbub of "downtown" Edgewater seems to keep the crowds at a minimum. A huge plus in my book.
We've been 3 times now - twice for brunch and once for dinner. Brunch just knocks it out of the park. Fried Chicken and Waffles. That's all I need to say, really, but I'll go on: The fried chicken is delicious! Crunchy and flavorful on the outside, juicy and delicious on the inside. You get 3 pieces. Add in a large and tasty waffle and you have what, in my opinion, brunch is all about. The perfect marriage of breakfast and lunch. The waffle is as good as my Ouma-in-law makes. Crispy on the outside, light and fluffy inside.
On the dinner menu, I have only really had their Southwest Burger: Natural, grass fed beef topped with a grilled green chile and pepper jack. I could eat two, mostly because they delicious, but also because they aren't huge. Probably a 1/3 pounder. At $7.50 for this burger, it is a little pricey, especially since it doesn't come with anything else. But, it's still a tasty burger. The sides are good too. Sweet Potato Fries: Great! Onion Rings: Good.
Good beers on tap, nice brunch drink selection (Do it yourself Bloody Mary Bar during Brunch!), and the fact that they serve water in old mason jars says a lot too. Their patio is nice, but narrow.
On the minus side, there was a slight fly problem when we first visited. The narrow patio means that when people leave via the patio, you have to scoot your chair way in or risk tripping people. Inside can be loud. Not really a minus, necessarily, for me, but something to note.
Thanks, Sloan's! You've given us another reason to head to Edgwater!
I was having a hard time deciding between the Steak Benedict or the Challah French Toast (based on its amazing reviews)... Â Our server offered me a single piece of toast for something like $2. Arguably the best $2 I've ever spent.
Lacey had the Croque Madame and our friend Katie ordered the Pulled Pork Benedict. DAMN that was some tasty pork.
The hollandaise was one of my favorites I've had, and the $1 mimosas are nice.
Love the ambiance and decor, and I've been in at night and had the flight of Grand Marnier. Not to get all Toby Keith on you, but I love this bar.
Stumbled across Sloans years ago with my sister and have been a fan ever since. It's a great neighborhood-type bar where you can get your eat and drink on and still be able to hold a conversation with your buds.
Went there to catch up with some friends on Saturday night and the place was pretty busy - we grabbed a table for four and were thankful to get it.
While the server was a little slow to get that initial order, she was really on top of it after that. We were in no rush and there were a few larger parties to tend to, so it was no biggie.
I started with a half dozen oysters, which looked fantastic the last time I was there but I passed. Glad I gave them a go this time. I know, I know, Denver's sometimes a bit sketchy on the seafood, raw oysters no less, but they were great! Ice cold, served w/ lemon, saltines and some horse-radishy cocktail sauce. I was a happy camper. My friend had the fried pickles - they were fried in spears, which I'm not used to seeing, but they were yummy nonetheless.
Onto the entrees. I had the fish and chips - what can I say? I was in a seafood mood. All I can say about that is "m'eh". They were fish n' chips - nothing to write home about. Definitely edible, just didn't blow me away. Luckily, the oysters were great and I have plenty of other options on Sloans menu that I KNOW are great - I'm looking at you, Californian burger, french onion soup, sweet potato fries and California BLT!
Sloans is a great for meeting up with friends, meeting new friends, grabbing some drinks and having some above-par bar food. I'd definitely recommend and will for sure be back. Excellent brunch with dollar mimosas - who can stay away??
Oh Sloan's...some good 'ole college happy hour memories spent at this bar. It wasn't until recently that I've ventured back to try it out for food and other drinks. The happy is still the same, and quite good. The beer list includes Guinness, the fry list includes sweet potato, both of which are always good things on my list.
The daily food special is pretty nifty, last time I was in for dinner I had the lasagna (the Sunday special), which was quite tasty and even came with a side salad. You can't beat the $1 mimosa specials on the weekends for brunch.
Tick tock tick tock tick tock... when will it be THURSDAY again? Â
Thursday's special is RIBS! Â My friend invited me to drive way out of my way to meet her and promised it would be worth it. Â She had been dreaming about their ribs while she was on vacation in Mexico - that tells you how good they are - so of course I had to play along. Â Now I just watch the clock waiting for Thursday to come again. Â *stomach rumble*
Sloan's bloody mary bar is the best!
I had to stop by some friends' place up in the Edgewater area for Halloween costume materials and remembered reading rave reviews about this place on yelp. Â We had decided to combine everything into a long overdue brunch outing so I suggested Sloan's (as we all enjoy building our own bloody marys).
It was nice enough to sit outside so we did. Â The brunch menu is pretty short, reasonably priced, and doesn't really list any ala carte options (although they were more than happy to accomodate requests, substitutions, etc). Â I decided to go for French toast - a kind of out of left field move for me, since I'm an eggs for breakfast gal myself. Â So I subbed eggs for bacon. Â While they don't technically do this, they were able to do two (as opposed to three) pieces of French toast plus eggs to get it at the same price, which was just dandy.
One friend got the veggie benedict which I snagged a bite of (delicious) and the other got the chicken and waffles which was enormous. Â The French toast was tasty as far as French toast goes, but I'll probably go for the benedict next time. Â It's just how I roll.
But, OH!  The bloody mary bar!  Not only do they have a variety of peppers to add, they also have almost every mainstream hot sauce there is including.....SRIRACHA.  Because bloodies are best spicy, but don't always need to be overpowered by vinegar.  All of this fun for $3.  The smaller mimosas are  a steal at $1 so I had one of each.
So, thanks yelp for steering me towards yet another cool spot I wouldn't have otherwise known about. Â I need to get out in this Edgewater area more often.
I am not going to lie to you Sloan's Bar & Grille brunch was a delicious surprise for me.
See the snob in me says that Bar & Grille normally equals mediocre or boring. Â The snob in me can't help it; she is a judgy b*tch!
So, I had read a review from Kate G. about how "Nothing beats their Challah French Toast"; and then noted that they had Bloody Marys. Â I sent the link to my bf and ensured him that they did in fact have Bloody Marys, yes I was sure; and so he agreed to go. Â I should state that he was only hesitant because he knows about the snob in me and no one likes to put up with her disappointment.
So we arrive, find seating on the patio, order some Marys, and food.
Kate G wasn't lying about the French Toast, it is delicious! Â I substituted the bacon for French fries and they were also on the spot. Â The bf devoured and enjoyed his Steak Eggs Benedict. Â We both had a Mary that we liked: mine spicy, his not spicy.
The only bit of oddness: Â The police station is right across the street so you get to see cops running in and out, jumping in their vehicles, and being all around entertaining.
A new happy hour food menu has been rolled out. Â And the verdict is: Â Meh. Â
I was intrigued by the options. Â However, ultimately disappointed. Â The grilled artichoke was a frozen artichoke whose inside was coated with a scary bright green substance. Â Seasoning was over the top and the "grilled" 'choke itself was watery. Â The entire thing looked fake, in my opinion.
The "vegetarian bean dip" is not a nice garlicky white bean dip as I expected. Â Rather, a tasteless pinto bean dip covered with melted cheese, jalapenos and tomatoes served with Tortilla Chips. Â With the wealth of good mexican in this town, I would urge Sloan's not to serve this slop out of a can and consider making their own tasty white bean dip to serve with crudite' and toasted pita or bagel chips in its place.
I was pleased with the ultra-rich melted brie with sauteed mushrooms, served with four toasts of french bread. Â A dash of brandy on the top would have sealed it as the best thing on the menu.
The side salad was fantastic and a bargain at $2.50.
Why oh why must they serve some of these things on plastic plates that would be more at home at a picnic, not at a pub. Â Its tacky and disappointing. Â I don't care if its a cheap happy hour menu; Â its creating lots of waste and makes me think that my food tastes worse than it does.
The boyfriend had the surf and turf again - never disappoints. Â The service was very attentive and we will be back again. Â I'm glad that they are working hard to expand the menu but some of the choices are more Sysco-style than quality menu items.
Had incredibly good burgers at Sloan's last weekend (I suggest the Maytag burger -- just the right amount of blue cheese and crispy bacon on top). Took some friends who had been once before, with not-so-good results. I advised them to stick to fish and chips, burgers, or the chopped salad. They did, and were very pleased. It's a friendly, casual place -- great for stopping in when you're hungry or thirsty. They do have a nice beer selection.
My negatives are same as always: The industrial-size "toolbox" of mustard, silverware etc. is cheesy and takes up too much room on the table.
On Gray St..........I saw a sign on 26th Ave. last weekend and remembered what a cute patio Sloan's has.............I ate there several years ago and it was okay.
The kiddo and I stopped for lunch. The patio has improved: red awning with enclosed panels and level concrete. The day was overcast and well, it was July but we were the only customers using the patio (?) I knew that service might suffer as most of the customers were INSIDE but you have to live dangerously.
Yes. Service suffered.
I had to flag down a waitress to let her know we were on the patio. It took a really long time (20 minutes +) for our entrees to arrive. I had the Grilled Avocado Melt ($7.29). I AM a cheapskate; I admit. I guess I didn't read the menu closely enough because I just ASSUMED that I would be getting fries with that or a least a garnish of something (lettuce?) NOPE. No plate either; just a little black tray; wrapped in tissue paper. The sandwich was good; plenty of avocado.
The kid had the steak sandwich ($11.79) that came with fries (albeit skimpy portion) and he did NOT want to share with me (disclaimer: I am also one of those people that also complain about "too" many French fries.")
To clarify, Sloan's has the box of condiments that they bring to the table (aka My Brother's Bar). My beef with the box is that it is too big and partially empty. Think a big plywood tool box; It needs to be smaller as it takes up 1/3 of the table.
After finishing our meal and waiting several minutes I say "We are going to give her (the waitress) five more minutes to come back. " My son wanted to order dessert. She came back in four minutes. Good. Â He ordered cheesecake.
Another 10-15 minutes go by. Tick tock, tick tock. I say "We are going to give the her one more minute then we are going to the bar to get the check." How long does it take to plate a piece of frozen, already-cut cheesecake? More time goes by; I go to the bar to pay the check. Our waitress is behind the bar slinging drinks.
I say that I just want the check as the other waitress is bringing out the cheesecake. I say "Sorry; It took too long. We are ready to leave." The manager miraculously appears behind the bar and asks what happened. I explain. He says the power outage has messed up the computer and everything is askew, I tell him I understand; perhaps he is understaffed? No, the power outage has just slowed down everything.
Then the waitress starts apologizing. Too little too late. She starts thanking me (before she sees the tip 20%+); I tell her not to thank me but to thank the manager (he comped the cheesecake; SMART MAN) because he totally SAVED her ass and saved me from writing a scathing review on Yelp. Plus, I tipped her much more than she deserved for a lackluster job.
Overall, I think Sloan's menu is priced a little on the "high" side for what you get.........
LUNCH
($11.79) Steak sandwich (with minimal fries)
($7.29) Avocado Melt (no meat OR french fries)
($4.75) Draw of Harp
($2.00) Lemonade
=$25.83 (before tip; no dessert)
Two stars for the general experience.
One more star for the manager saving the day (made my kid happy, anyway.)
Went back to Sloan's today with the family. The owner, Stephen, had very nicely sent me a gift card to tempt us back in after our previous experience. (I should say that I really appreciated that he followed up and sent the gift card.) Today's experience was everything a visit to Sloan's should be - friendly service, good food, great atmosphere that's perfect for families, and delicious beers on tap. The kids were relaxed, ate their yummy kids meals - and the free ice cream that comes with them. Everyone can have a bad day now and then, but Sloan's is really doing better. We noticed the side salad was bigger and better (which shows they are listening to their reviews). Yay Sloan's!!
BTW, I was interested in the upcoming Father's Day Dinner - prime rib, scampi and all the fixins plus a free Stella or Newcastle Pale Ale for $18.99 (for Dads). Nice deal; just might have to check it out!
Holy flatiron steak sliders with havarti on Hawaiian bread! Â These were delicious. Â Plus they have excellent homemade kettle chips which, when crunched, echo throughout the very fiber of my being and say, "hey, these are deliciously good chips and you should eat more of them." Â [my being is not as eloquent as I would like sometimes]
SV had a grilled avocado, tomato and cheese on grilled marble rye (she added pickles, which is a nice tangy complement to the avocado), my parents were in town and they each had a burger and were quite pleased with the results. Â Their sweet potato fries and onion rings are good but weren't as good as the kettle chips. Â I'm still thinking about them.
Lots of beers on tap and nice specials. Â I think we'll try to come back for their brunch at some point. Â And board games! Â And some TVs for that sport watching thing. Â Overall, the menu is pretty ordinary but well executed. Â Give it a try!
My girlfriend and I live down the street from this place and, because of that, have tried giving this place numerous chances. I've never written a review, good or bad, for a place...but after continuously being frustrated with the food at this place, I felt obligated to write a review, if only to let out my own (and my girlfriend's) frustration.
Don't get me wrong, if just want to get a drink and hang out, this is a great place...just don't get the food!! It's average at best, and way overpriced for what you get. And they definitely do NOT have the best burgers in town. Whoever said that has no idea what they are talking about, or has never had a burger anywhere else. I'd sooner get a burger from Burger King than I would from Sloan's Bar and Grill again. Oh, and fries are extra, which isn't necessarily a big deal, except that you get about 5 fries for 4 dollars.
Me and my girlfriend have sworn off eating at Sloans. I suggest you avoid it as well...unless you just want to have some drinks.
I will preface this review with a warning that this bar/grill is within walking distance from my house, making it a favorite stumble-home stop-off. Â However, it's one of three options in the area, and definitely my favorite.
While Sloan's doesn't deliver anything out-of-the-ordinary when it comes to bar and grill (grille?), it does everything very well. Â Standing out on top is the service, which is well coordinated, always super friendly and very helpful. Â The slam-dunk about going here is that I know I'll never have to wait for my drinks or my food.
The menu tries to be inventive. Â Really it does - gives it the old college try. Â Being honest, though, it's just burgers and pub food. Â There are a couple of twists, like the option to substitute chicken breasts in place of burgers, but if it weren't for the titles ("Really Good Chopped Salad") it would read like every other menu in town. Â While the burgers don't measure up to the high bar set by City Grille, they're more than respectable in their own right. Â I'm never disappointed by what I order here.
The bar selection is great, Guinness and Hoegarden on tap (among others) and all the premium liquors you want. Â Not much of a happy hour to speak of, but the drink prices aren't astronomical.
Seating is actually really good, though the place looks tight at first glance. Â Tables and booths are set out really well and they even managed to get a 12+ person long table and a pool table in there. Â On top of that, they have a covered patio running along one side of the building.
Decor is probably above average - the bar itself is pretty cool. Â Otherwise it's polished cement floors and a rusty-red paint with mirrors along the walls that double as hanging menus.
In sum, Sloan's doesn't outperform on any one measure, but it does everything well. Â It's great for 2 to 10 person groups, is kid friendly without sacrificing anything and stays open late. Â My ol' reliable.
