Decent Thai food
Cute little restaurant but the service sucks. They barely even recognize you're there.
We started with the fried vegetable appetizer which had thick breading, a little too much, but the sauce was good. I was expecting more of a light tempura batter. We ordered the beef drunken noodles which had a good flavor but the noodles were overcooked and kind of mushy. We also got the red curry which had a nice balance between spice and coconut.
Many Thai restaurants in the US basically taste similar. This is one has an Americanized menu, as with most others. But, having tried MANY Thai places, I want to give it credit for being closest to what I can get outside of Thailand, outside of Asia, in Chicago.
It is now my favorite Thai restaurant in Chicago! (It used to be Sticky Rice, but they have bad service, and too much MSG in their food. Earlier, it was Vong, but Vong was more fusion and not purely Thai, plus Vong has closed down.)
This place is perfectly situated in its neighborhood. It is affordable and homey, making it accessible both to students and crotchety Hyde Parkers like myself.
I like that this place is vegan-friendly and affordable. I recommend the pad see ew and the chive dumplings.
I wish they were open on mondays!
