Another in a long line of pizza delivery experiences.  Another 2.5ish review.  Another in a long line of doughy, doughy, doughy.  Pizza is bland.  Delivery was timely enough, no problem there.

I wish pizza places were more clear about what they mean when they say "thin crust."  Is it cracker?  Semi-cracker?  Thin?  Thick posing as thin?  It would make things a lot easier, for me anyway.  This was thick posing as thin.  And bland.  Ah well.  Moving on....

HORRIBLE Pizza!  i ordered an extra large thin crust w/onion,pineapple,jalipanios.
This pizza was not thin crust, it was SO doughy and no sauce. it was SO dry that i could not eat it. When i called to complain, the witch hung up on me. WAY OVER PRICED for such shitty pizza and service. Should not be on Taylor street. Of all the Pizza joints in the city...i had to order the most expensive and the worst tasting.

The pizza is certainly fit for consumption, and its a good deal.  But, does lack on the taste department. Still I will go again.

I live a block away from this place and order from here all the time.
Their pizza is not bad but it is the "Everyday Large Cheese Pizza Special" that keeps me coming back. It's 6.65 for a cheese pizza. Each additional topping is only a dollar extra. Best deal around.
I have also had their philly cheese steak. It's mediocre but I don't really know better places for one on taylor street.

    Sofias stromboli is great!

Delivery times seem to be a little long, but that won't keep me from going back.

I just tried this place for the first time and it was awesome! Delivery was super fast and the delivery guy was really friendly. We had a tomato basil pizza and a meat lovers which was still hot when we got it (a big plus in my book.) I totally recommend this place!

Come for the mediocre pizza. Stay because the wait is extremely long.

I've been to this place a few times because I'm around the area a lot. Each visit here was an impulse due to a sign outside advertising a good pizza deal. The first visit I got a couple of slices of sausage and cheese. The guy said we have some coming out of the oven soon and that was fine with me. I found when the guy said "soon" he really meant 20 minutes. I asked him periodically when my order will be ready and he quickly shot back "soon" without even going to the back to check. When I got the pizza it was shockingly dull. It was like they somehow figure out a way to put Coors Light in pizza form.

I went back a couple more times and the pizza was a little better. The service was also faster. Only good enough for 2 stars though.

Good luck trying to place an order with this dump.  Sure, you'll get the online order confirmation.  Call an hour after your food was supposed to arrive and get a quizzical "maybe the delivery guy got it, we're not sure what happened to your order."

And also -- ask them to cut a pizza in squares.  They'll forget, cut it in triangles, and send you 1"x1" pizza pieces for your party.

This place is a prime robbery location.  It's just the feel you get when you're in there.  Someone is going to walk in and throw a snake over the counter and grab the cash register.

The pizza is cheap and it's not bad for how much it costs.

The dude behind the counter is a huge nerd (I know because I am one) and loves to watch Spaceballs.  Well, we all love Spaceballs but this guy was as excited as I do when I watch videos of people's VCR collections.  (youtube, I'm telling you, has everything on it - look up VCR VHS collection)

Oh, also, I think the cooks get it wrong a lot - they offered my friend and I a pepperoni pizza at half price.  Then about 4 customers after us.  Then he eventually shouted to the cook that "no one wants the pepperoni pizza, I don't know why."

All in all, one of the most cracked out dining experiences I have had in a while.

Also, this is prime location to pick someone up.  UIC people tend to talk more than DePaul kids, I've found (I can say that because I'm a DePaul Grad and I think DePaul grads don't talk to anyone)

The service here when I went was not that great. The guy kept on rolling his eyes as me and my friend were trying to decide what to order even though there was no one else in the place! We also waited quite a while for our food. At first we were just standing by the counter, but after about 5 minutes, the same guy came out from the kitchen and snapped at us to sit down...I'm not entirely sure what we did to offend him.

I got the spaghetti with meatballs to go, and the lid got loose in my bag and dripped marinara sauce everywhere. The cheese on top of the spaghetti looked exactly like a layer of rubber. I just peeled it off with my fork and threw it in the trash. The meatballs were alright, but were a bit too salty. My friend got a hamburger, took three bites and threw it away. I know it's an Italian place but why offer something on the menu unless you can make it well..? The bun was completely burnt and the patty was like something you would get at McDonald's.

I gave them more than 1 star just because the place was decently clean. Also, there was a guy sitting next to the door when we walked in that looked like he belonged in The Mob.

I ordered a large half pepperoni half sausage pizza not gourmet. Fast delivery which was good. Opened the pizza and looked exactly how it tasted: like little Caesars. Will never order again.

The pizza tastes amazing. Large Beef and ricotta on thin crust with 2 drinks for $13?? You had me at hello.

It's an amazing place, and when we went in they had milan vs florentina playing, of course, SO and i love a real football game, especially while eating. The meal was delicious and we loved every bit of it. Yummiest pizza we've had in a while and we don't even like pizza :D

Good service and WONDERFUL prices and specials. We wondered into here after looking at taylor made's prices and ugly set up and walking out. We made a great decision!

We ordered Buffalo chicken wings and the two pizza special, which included one pizza with sausage and pepperoni and one pizza with Canadian bacon and pineapple (just for kicks). Delivery was on time and the driver was nice... The Buffalo chicken wings were nice and spicy; however the breading was soggy - unfortunate. The pizza crust was unremarkable. The pizza sauce was bland - it reminded of me of sauce from "Chef Boyardee" I ate at a friends house when I was a child. Fail sauce - the dried oregano flakes were a problem for me, which is largely due to the blandness of the pizza sauce, and were especially perceptible on the Canadian bacon and pineapple pizza. The acid and sugar in the pineapple combined with the acid from the sauce and the fat from the bacon, among other flavors, lent a moldy characteristic that I found intolerable to my palate. The cheese on the pizza itself was not fresh, the sausage was not seasoned properly and the pepperoni tasted as if it came from a bag - fail!

I am obsessed with this place now. The pizza is SO good. They have really cheap deals (I think two 14" cheese pizzas is $15), too. I must order here like once a week. (Ew, ok not really. But close).

Wanted a good old fashioned pizzeria pizza this weekend, and decided to give Sofia's a try.  (We'd gotten a menu-flier of theirs in the mail this week- FULL of great coupons too!)  We ordered a Pizza Roma and a Pizza Deluxe.  Both were delicious!  Lots of yummy cheese.  The crust was soft and delicious- and we're not particular fluffy crust fans.  I told the lady we had the coupon, she gave me my new total and said it'd be about an hour.

The delivery man was on time, let me keep my coupon and told me to use it again and again, and the pizza was so hot when we got it. RARE occurrence!!

We'll definitely order from here again.  My only recommendation for Sofia's would be to add some marinara or garlic sauce in cups.  The crust would be so GOOD with a little dipper sauce on the side.  I wouldn't be able to STOP ordering from here if that were the case!!

Not very pleased with the baked ziti and salad that I ordered for dinner one night with a friend. When I ordered baked ziti I expected melted cheese on top or something of the sort, instead I got mostaccoli and red sauce. Very boring...side salad was all lettuce and few black olives. Overall disappointed with the food. If I go back I would order the pizza special on game nights. Wings and pizza for 15.99....I believe was the deal.

I called in to place an order and the lady was pretty rude. Their website claims to give you a discount when ordering from the web, but the button didn't apply the discount.  When I called explaining the situation, she replied "so, too bad, its not my fault."

    Yikes, pretty bad service

We ordered a simple pizza from them last night.  Over 1 hour later we called and they said it was at our building.  However 20 minutes later still no pizza.  Called again and the guy was a jerk. The pizza finally arrived and the delivery guy had loads of attitude.

Afterward the guy called and offered an insulting discount.   Will never order again.

I have gotten pizza from Sofia's three times now and every time it has been quite delicious.  The pick-up special of $9.99 for a large pizza is fantastic and well worth the price.

The service is not the greatest, but is generally friendly and walking here in the summer is a joy down Taylor.

If you do order for delivery, make sure to go to the website to get special coupons, otherwise it can be a bit pricey.

All in all, very good NY style pizza!

Gary E.'s review below is right on point.  As a pizza lover from NY, I am constantly on the prowl for good NY style pizza and so far in Chicago, this is the closest it gets.  I am overcome by dough and cheese and want a little more sauce (which Italians from NY call 'gravy' by the way).  The pizza is a little bit inconsistent but usually is hot and well prepared.  I definitely recommend giving it a try.

Only two things keep me from giving them a 5 star rating:

    - If they put a bit more sauce on the pizza
    - I'll never give a 5 to a crust that isn't hand tossed.  At least these guys try, they use a "precast" bottom and hand-dough the outer part of the crust, which is at least an attempt at making it look hand-tossed.

Friendly and fast service and delivery.  I like it.

Just ordered it again last night to watch the Hawks game and again delish!

The pizza came super fast.  I think it was only about 15 minutes, which is highly impressive for delivery.

And the prices are great.  Go to their website to get coupons, and they let you keep them and use them again next time!  Great place.

My new favorite pizza joint in Chicago!  Delivery is great, but you CANNOT beat the pickup deal they have going (10 bucks for a 16" 1-topping).  Friendliest staff ever, and very tasty pizza (melty but not rubbery cheese, zesty sauce, good crust consistency).  I haven't done lunch here yet, but it looks like they have some good specials.

I went here last night after watching a sporting event at UIC and my friends and I were starving.  We were told Taylor street had some great little restaurants to choose from, but they were all closed cause it was so late on a Sunday night in a college neighborhood.
Anyway, we passed this place in hopes of finding something we thought was better, but ended up coming back cause everything else was closed.  Turns out, this was a great choice.  One friend and I had calzones and the other one had stromboli and they were huge!  Apparently the calzone is a 10-inch pizza folded over and the stromboli is a 14-inch pizza rolled up.  They were big enough to share, so if you go there, split them with someone else, or have leftovers.  And they were good, too.  The cheese was oozing out and the dough was just right and I would definitely go back for some good pizza.  They have other things on the menu, like burgers and baked pasta dishes and they have lunch specials.  The staff was enjoyable and they served us at our table.  You should check it out!

Terrible terrible terrible customer service. After waiting an hour and 20 minutes with no pizza, I called Sofia's to see what the hold up was.  They had not even sent it out yet, but said it would be there in 10 to 15 minutes.  After waiting another 40 minutes I called again.  Well, the STILL had not sent it out.  After putting me on hold for 5 minutes they came back on the line to say it would be there in 5 minutes.  I told them to forget it and cancel the order.  Then they had the audacity to hang up on me! Nice.  The pizza showed up 40 minutes later.  I told the driver what he could do with that pizza.
I will NEVER order from Sofia's again.

I almost need to write two reviews because when I order from here it's often like the food is from two different restaurants.

Anyone that knows me, knows that I cant stand Chicago style pizza and I'm on a constant quest to find NYCesque pizza. A menu for Sofias showed up in our mailbox one day so we gave it a try. I was SUPER EXCITED because the crust was thin, the sauce was tasty, the cheese was greasy in a good way. Also, the delivery was spot on in the quoted time and the phone staff and drivers were both great. All in all 4 stars.

However, since that first time we've ordered on other occasions and you never know what you'll get. On the "bad" times, the pizza seemed no different than a slightly better version of Dominos. Fluffier (not in a good way) crust, sauce bland, and overall a bit dried out. It still had a decent flavor but just not like on the "good" days.

This is truly the only pizza place I've ordered from where the exact same pie is vastly different depending on the day. Do they have different recipes? Different chefs? I'm not quite sure. On good days, I'm quite satisfied, on bad I'm disappointed.

I will keep ordering because when it's on point, I haven't found anywhere that can measure up, however consistency is key so if if keep getting the disappointing pie, it might be time to throw in the towel.  :-(

    I like:

-The Variety of The Menu (Pizza, Sandwiches, Salads, Cheesesteaks)
-The Availability of Chicken Philly Cheesesteaks
    -The Chicken Philly Cheesesteak itself.
    -Vegetables seemed fresh.

    I dislike:
-The Wait. phone your order in ahead of time.

I ordered a calzone, my friends ordered a spaghetti plate and a lasagna plate. It wasn't particularly busy, but the food still took a long time to come out.  My calzone was mediocre, and there didn't seem to be anything to special about their pastas. If you had to eat there you would certainly survive, but there really is no reason to ever go there.

I really wanted to like it.

Ordered Sofia's today for lunch. I got a veggie pizza, also tried a spinach stromboli.  My husband ordered cheesy bread, chicken wings and a gyros plate.  Nothing was very good.  Blah pizza- too saucy, soggy bottom and not enough cheese.  Tomato slices were cut really thick for some reason.  It wasn't particularly cheap either, despite what others have written.

The guy on the phone and also the delivery guy were really nice.  Like I say, I wish I liked it better.  But not a fan.

This is a cute place. I stopped here before the Kylie concert last month. I ordered some cheese ravioli. They serve various pasta entrees as well as pizza. It's a very low key and simple place. I really liked that the food was cooked to order, the service was friendly and there weren't a million people in there. It was a nice place to relax and eat after driving over an hour in traffic. I'm not in this neighborhood too often, but I can say that if I needed to go to another concert, this would be a great "go to" place!

It's good pizza you don't get the 100% New York City flare of thin curst pizza, but it comes in at a close second since we are in living in the " second city." Anyhow I felt the regular thin crust sausage pizza was tasty, but their spinach thin crust pizza wasn't that good to me. The service was fast we ordered to take it home, it is a very causal sit down place nothing special.

Hanging out with Jass V last night having a girls night we got hungry. Pizza was decided and Sofia's was the place of choice.

We ordered and were told it would be about an hour, 30 minutes later our pizzas had arrived! And arrived nearly piping hot. Double points. It was really good pizza too! And relatively cheap with our coupon. Buy one get one 50% off, hell to the yes!

The pizza was good! They told us 50 minutes for delivery and it was under 45! Can't beat that. We got the buy one, get one half price. We tried a sausage & spinach and a salami & zucchini.  The zucchini was my favorite. It was very unique and I think the two flavors went well together. The price is pretty good as well!  You get a 10% discount for your first on-line order, but I couldn't get the buy one, get one half off deal on-line, so we skipped it.

I got a slice of plain ole' cheese pizza from here one day.  It's great!  I loved it.  Thin and crispy and tastes delicious.  I am definitely coming back for some more slices!  I have yet to order a whole pizza and see how that turns out.

There's a lot of seating here...it was empty when I was there mid-afternoon.  And their space behind the cashier counter is really small...I feel like they need more space back there for themselves!  But that's just how it goes I guess.

I would try it out!  :)

I ordered from here for the first time yesterday and on a cold winter day when the couch was calling me, it was decent! I was worried about what the pizza would actually be like, because the picture on the brochure looks truly unappetizing.

But I was pleasantly surprised by relatively fast delivery (can't beat a piping hot pizza on a super cold day), and the pizzas I got were pretty good. They have a "buy one, get one half off" deal, and I got a quattro formaggi and a bbq chicken. I personally prefer thin crust to be a little thinner, and I like my pizza cut in squares instead of the huge slice style like Sofia's, but, again, it was fresh, hot and good. For quick and relatively inexpensive, you can't beat Sofia's.

Totally affordable, which is a major bonus these days. . . and the toppings (we had sausage) were delicious and tasted authentic. I love this Taylor Street strip and really want to explore it more. We carried out from Sofia's, on our quest for the best pizza near SoLo, and while we weren't disappointed I felt it was a good mid-range competitor. Better than Dominos (and Dominos is good, especially when you've imbibed), but not nearly as good as other traditional crust options. We'll continue the hunt, but Sofia's is a safe bet for PMS (predictable, mediocre and safe).

Recently learned of this pizza delivery alternative for the West Loop.  I have ordered from this restaurant twice, two pizzas each time and the buffalo chicken comes highly recommended (four stars on its own).  The crowd flocked to this pizza and it was gone before the other pizza gained much attention.  Although inferior to the buffalo chicken, the other pies I have tried (deluxe and pepperoni) are comparable quality to Dagostinos and Giordanos at a slightly better value.  I ordered from this restaurant on weekend evenings with delivery times between 45 and 75 minutes.

We recently received one of their menus at work so we decided to give it a try for lunch yesterday. The place was nice, seemed small but new. Honestly, we never noticed it before getting the menu in the mail. We all (4 of us) pitched in $5 and got two large pizzas with two toppings.. one with sausage and mushroom, the other with tomato and spinach. Both were great, we really enjoyed the sausage and mushroom. I told my husband about how impressed we were with the bread, cheese and toppings.. so he wanted to try it for dinner.

I ordered two small pizzas for dinner (they are quite affordable).. one with pepperoni, bacon and onion, the other with sausage, mushroom and tomato. My husband enjoyed his with the pep, bac, onion.. and I was not satisfied with my sausage. I was convinced it was ground beef because it tasted nothing like the sausage I had for lunch.. and it didn't look like it either. The sausage from lunch was chunky and was filled with spices. The one I received for dinner was thrown in and was not a 'ball' shape.. it was small, flat and grainy pieces--like I'd expect ground beef to be like. I was sure they made a mistake so I called to let them know. I could hear  [what I presume was] the owner arguing that it was sausage and not ground beef. The boy on the phone said "They said they could make you a new one and show you that it looks the same" and I told him "Unless your sausage changed within 6 hours, I remember exactly what the sausage looked like and tasted like.. and this is not it." Alas, I got nowhere.. no apology, not even a little 'maybe we got it wrong' or.. 'how about a free slice next time?' They were sure they gave me sausage and I am just as sure that compared to what I had for lunch, this was garbage. I didn't bother eating more than the bite I had before calling.

I'm taking my husband's advice and never ordering sausage again.. who knows if I'll get the good or bad sausage. I'll stick to pepperoni from now on.
