The red velvet cupcake is out of this world.

I agree that the prices are a bit steep - but this is the Loop and when you compare $ to other lunch choices in the area (like Panera Bread) they are not that far off the mark.  At every visit, I am greeted with super friendly cashiers and great food choices.  I don't get the harsh ratings.  The soups are pretty good, as well as the sandwiches.  I would advise that you take advantage of coupons or the coffee "club" to get better deals.

I paid about $8 for a fresh chicken ceasar wrap and uh, so not worth it. The lady who works there in evening is really nice though.
