My cousins and I visited this place over the weekend to try it out. Was not very impressed. The waiter was super nice and on point but the pub food is ok if you need to eat while you drink. I ordered steak but it was cut up like tips that was different. My cousins had the ribs. The rub was way to spicy and the sauce not that great and the ribs were to fatty. We did order alcohol and they tasted watered down. Yeah not impressed.
Review Source:This is a very small bar/grill kind of place that offers bands and even some light comedic entertainment. I have been here a few times, most recently on Cinco de Mayo (thats May 5th for all the non-spanglish speaking folks). We went there to see our frineds perform with their band New Old School and our friend DJ'ed there as well, Dj iRockJays! It was a nice night with drink specials and food for the Mexican inclined. The crowd was not too huge and we were able to get a table in front of the band set-up. There is no dance floor and you are literally in front of the band, but it is not that loud honestly.
The staff is friendly, but they are understaffed on a full night, but they try their best to get your orders post-haste. My chicken tacos were a bit cold, but they were ok, and my Corona was cold and fresh so it wasnt too bad.
The few times I have come here it has been a mixed crowd of young and old. It is a nice atmosphere, but like I said a bit small. It does have an outside patio area but it has never been warm enough for me to sit out there so yeah.
I would probably only come here if my friends were performing with their band, but it would be well worth it. Come here for quaint surroundings, cold beers, and good times!
My husband and I have gone there a couple of times. Â And every time, we had a good night out. Â They have good entertainment (i.e live band) and also a good place to watch the game. Â The service has always been good. Â When we went there we did not eat much, mostly there for the entertainment. Â But, the cajun wings is something I always go back for. Delicious!
Review Source:Great spot to watch Steelers games and keep an eye on all the other games at the same time. And the crab man n cheese us "wow"... I normally couldnt bring myself to recommend paying $10 for a bowl but you wont regret this!" The service here is tops, too, on game day... Unusually great for a sports bar!
Review Source:Okay, y'all want the bad or the good first ? Let's go bad .. Always good to get bad news out of the way... So we roll up and right in front of this place are four 20-something year old wanna-be-hood types one of which is coughing like he's about to barf out all of his drinks.. We scurried inside. Also bad -- the French onion soup -- tasting like 3 day old rainwater ... Lastly, my buffalo chicken salad didn't have enough chicken although it tasted good! So heres the good--- quality live music, great crowd ( for a Wednesday night at 11pm), nachos off tha chanizzle my nizzle, and reasonably priced tasty mixed drinks. I recommend a visit!
Review Source:Sonoma's is a neighborhood joint that is mostly a bar. Â Back in the old days, it was almost entirely a bar when Howard County allowed smoking in restaurants. Â When that was outlawed, only the outlaws had guns. Â Wait, that's wrong. Â When smoking was banned, they knocked down the wall separating the small section for regular eaters from the bar. Â
Think of Sonoma's as a neighborhood sports bar with decent pub food. Â The french dip sandwich is a winner.
The most revolting margarita I've ever had, and close to the worst service. Â The bartender even tried to discourage me from ordering the type of tequila I'd prefer because "that's a really expensive margarita, would [I] prefer rail?"! Â No, thank you. Â I'd like what I ordered. Then, despite the fact that the place wasn't crowded, it took forever to get served, then forever to get the check when we wanted to get the hell out of there. Â Never again.
Review Source:Crab dip, easy concept right?
I dunno maybe the Chef isn't a Marylander, what we got was cream cheese with Old Bay not bad really, this was unceremoniously dumped over previously frozen claw meat, not folded.
So we had watery untasteful crab topped with cream cheese, yuck, yuck, ain't going back if that's they're standard fare, that people rave about? C'mon really
Place is so average. I have many gay friends so I can say this. I think it's a ahhh progressive bar. Yea that was a nice way to put it. Went there this past  Monday for football and all guys. Went there a few months ago, all guys.
The service is very poor. Had one bartender who was rude because he couldn't handle the biz. Also one waitress for the entire place on MNF. Â Beer on MNF were 3.50 for a draft. Anywhere else, 2.50. Not being cheap, but you have to compare with the local market.
Also as for decor, the smell was poor. Pprobably due to it sits right next to a chinese rest.
Good Luck
This is a great neighborhood bar. Staff are always super friendly. Something about this place is very inviting. Lively crowd during football season and gets crowded pretty fast but you can make a reservation ahead of time which I always forget to do. Went there several times during NCAA and playoffs. I was surprised at how quiet the place was. Will be back more often once football season starts!
Review Source:Wow. This place is like where gods go for a good drink. I should know as I recently walked across a pond to heal a wounded swan and came here for a drink. The drinks were stiff and the women were... abundant. Very laid back atmosphere and although I made the place more attractive being there it was only marginally more attractive.
Review Source:This is a great neighborhood bar. They have live music about every weekend and drink specials daily. I lived within walking distance so we could get as trashed as we desired and stubble home. he he! They knew us well! Well enough that when we had an occasion to celebrate and there were too many of us to handle, the didn't call the cops, just waited until the next time they saw us (probably one to two days later) and asked that we pay the tap - whoops! But of course we did and who knows the riches we gave in tips? The food is decent and great with one of their many beers on tap. Sizable space but it gets crowded fast.
It's right across from Lake Elkhorn kiddie play area, bring a sitter and a DD and everyone gets a Happy Hour! lol.
As far as the local Columbia bars goes, this is pretty on par with Houlihan's and Michael's. Â Actually, I kinda like this one more, but it really isn't quite as good. Â Once again, I can say the same about this bar as all Columbia bars. Â It's like a restaurant by day, it's clean, the staff rocks, the drinks are fair priced, blah, blah, bliggity blah. Â This is the only joint in town where the seating is a bit more intimate than preferred, but you can deal.
I've caught a few local bands here. Â The first one I caught (and didn't catch the name of) apparently plays there a lot, and is a lot of fun. Â That's the thing about this bar. Â It's not like going out to "the scene". Â It's going out to a bar. Â It's a neighborhood bar. Â In a neighborhood. Â Fancy that. Â Columbia isn't a big city, it shouldn't try to big-city-up it's bars. Â You can go here, have a cheap drink, play some shuffleboard, and just chill. Â There aren't any goofy dudes with popped collars or so-so chicks that think they are knock-outs because they have highlights and dumped a few cans of spray in their hair, over-did eye shadow, and that weird, gooie lip-gloss (that is kinda hot) all over. Â If you want a neighborhood bar, it's this or Michael's. Â If you want a scene or something bigger than a local's joint, head to Baltimore or DC.
"Jager Shots." Â You know.
I've been here during lunch, dinner, and for happy hour. Each time was good. There were some kinks here and there but overall my expectations were met, i would definitely go again, and i would recommend sonoma's to others.
Atmosphere: Very_ bar-ish. Local, in one of Columbia's village centers. Location is hard to find if you are not familiar with Columbia's layout. Village center is located within a "village" so to speak. Its clean and nice.
Food: simple, homey, basic American food. Sandwiches, burgers, some pasta and lots of heart attack appetizers. Its good... I can't complain.
Service: I'm not sure how to rate this one. It's ok, not great. But then again, I'm not expecting five star service nor have they ever really given me superb service. The bartenders are nice.  Lots of places don't even acknowledge you if you don't order alcohol- since that's where the big money is. I really like the bouncers.  They're  big and scary looking but super friendly.
Other: They play live music!!! LOVE that! Â It gets really busy, really loud at night. Interesting crew of people but love it. Its definitely a homey dig, lots of locals and lots of restaurateurs that come here after work. So the people know each other. During sports season, its all about sports, etc. Â Their website is really detailed which i like. Â I've been on there a couple times to see who was playing.
Overall, its a cool place just to hang out and meet new people.
Though it is tucked away - it's well worth the effort to find!
Behind the Giant at the Owen Brown Village center in Columbia sits a small village pub that is friendly, well appointed, and fresh from a million dollar renovation!
Sports fans will love the numerous flat screened TV's and game specials.
TRIVIA: this is also an NTN Buzztime Trivia Bar! they have a good number of boxes and seem to not mind catering to this niche (which is great for us players!) the Rocky Run trivia crew has migrated here since it's closing and the board is filled with fine players and competition is lively!
LIVE TRIVIA: Tommy runs the live Trivia game every Thursday with cash prizes and pitchers of beer...lively competition and a good time for a game that runs from 7:30-10pm.
HAPPY HOUR! 3:30-7 $2.00 Don't miss the pint drafts domestic and a dollar off just about everything else.. also a can't be beat happy hour food menu that features good prices (under $6) on wings, grilled meats, other apps, and a basket of their homemade chips are only a $1!!
only complaint: my vino friends say that the wine pours are stingy and sure enough the glasses are small :-(
strangely, no background music plays to ensure that any awkward bar conversations stay that way...have to wait till Tommy gets in at 5:00pm and he hooks up his iPod to the sound system otherwise, if you want music you have to feed the jukebox which in this day and age gets spendy.
Visit! come on by and talk to the hilarious and charming Tommy, Dave who was a Rocky Run star! Karen, Kate, Liz, Ryan and Pat - all of whom are also great servers! everyone else, including the regulars, are super nice, too! One odd thing, Jerry, one of the owners, gets a little hyper when it's busy.... i call him the "chair whisperer" always moving chairs (and people) around in some kind of OCD search for harmony, perfection and optimum seating capacity. he means well and he treats us VERY well. so, i say - let him move his chairs around all he wants!
UPDATE: The new manager Pete has brought a LOT of excitement and great ideas to the property! Â Bringing in special events like the recent Wing Wars and is planning on monthly themed parties! He's also a cutie with adorable dimples, a friendly smile, and an eagerness to make everyone who comes there happy! it doesn't get any better than that!
(PS. leave the kids at home this is a neighborhood BAR or PUB...smokers hang out front on the outdoor patio and shoot the breeze and creative expletives are always a bonus! so, "it's a baby...in a bar"...is just right out)

As with many places in Columbia, this one is hard to find! Â It's tucked in the back of one of those hidden shopping centers. Â If you live in the area, you know what I'm talking about.
Please be advised that this is the Steeler's Fan Club headquarters!! Â I found this out when I arrived to watch Monday Night Football decked out in full Raven's gear!
Sonoma's has lots of specials and bands throughout the week. Â If you join their e-mail list, you'll get the full scoop. Â We had $2.50 drafts and no cover on a Monday. Â The wings were awesome. Â Cheesesteak was okay, but the burger was AMAZING!
It's pretty small inside but they do have outside seating and TVs everywhere. Â I'll probably be back for some wings and beer at some point.
Sonomas is a great little, "local dive" although with recent renovations its not quite a "dive." We frequent this place a lot because of the happy hour specials--1/2 price appetizers.
The bar is pretty small and gets crowded after 9pm. They do charge a cover on nights with live music (usually Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat) of usually $5. They offer video games, trivia, and shuffleboard.
The food is typical bar food. I stick to appetizers and sandwiches mostly, so I won't speak for their dinner entrees in this review. I prefer the appetizers here to most of the other "village center bars" that I go to. They have Mac-n-cheese wedges and lets be for real, who doesn't like deep friend macaroni & cheese?!
The service is hit or miss, but its a small bar so you can always just walk up to the bar to get what you need. The bands there aren't the best in the area, but this place has a following, so give it a try--there's something about the music that keeps folks coming back every week. I've only ever heard 1 really terrible band there.
There an abundance of TVs here for watching sports, but this is not the place you want to take a group to watch a game (due to the size). Stick to this place for having a few drinks and dinner after work, or watching a game on the weekend with a few friends.
