After loading up on sweets from the bakery next door, I headed in here to check
out the offerings. First and foremost, there is no menu posted anywhere. Â There is no furniture. I felt really lost. The people who were working here, although two were nice enough, were in my opinion, too relaxed. They were just talking and joking around and being aloof in a fashion that I feel is not appropriate for a business. After all I have read about the I Love Food Group family of restaurants, I guess I expected more. They have some interesting posters of the Black slave experience but that was about it as far as decor goes. I'm all over the place. So anyway, I asked about the offerings and was handed a small business card type menu. I chose jerk chicken, mac and cheese and collard greens. The mac and cheese was okay but not well seasoned. The collard greens were not very well seasoned and I'm used to them being more tender. The chicken was quite tasty. The food was okay. Since I try (very hard and not hard enough) to watch what I eat, I would eat here again because it wasn't bad. Perhaps the seasoning(or lack of) is a health conscious thing.
fyi , theres a quench in this location as well.
I really wanted to like this place. I ordered the smothered chicken (white meat), with a side of mac & cheese, sweet potatoes & added an extra side of sautéed spinach. The smothered chicken & sweets were "ok" at best, but I don't know what the cook was thinking when he overdosed on the herbs he put in the sautéed spinach. I think it was rosemary or thyme, but which ever one it was, he straight OVERDOSED on the herbs. I mean it was completely inedible. I tried to use it to season the smothered chicken, but it was just waaay too much. So I tossed it (wasted money!). The mac & cheese was sub par. I just had the hard part of the mac & cheese that's normally on top & nothing else-plus they only gave me like 3 table spoons of it anyway :/ . & the muffin...that poor lil dried out thing was tossed as well... all in all the shit was pretty nasty & I wont be going back for the "soul food". The bakery next door is GREAT though!
