Throughout his teenage years my dad worked in family-run Chinese restaurants, and South China's cooking reminds him of the food he ate growing up. So, we decided to stop by South China for Father's Day.
I'm not sure if the menu we ordered from was just a promotional thing, but we got soup, BBQ pork, chicken wings, salmon, sweet and sour chicken, Mongolian beef, mushrooms / bok choy, chow mein and rice meant to serve four to five people for less than $80. Â We took home about half the food we ordered and ate it for dinner the next night and some for lunch the following day.
The food's good and the value is great! Â In addition, the waitstaff is always super friendly and welcoming.
I went there for a baby shower, so they already preordered food and had a table set up for everyone. The food was really dry and bland. Especially the fried rice. The noodles were ok. And the fried chicken just wasn't hitting the spot. It was a disappointment for a Chinese restaurant.
Review Source:We have been going to this place since they were on Beacon Hill. The food is delicious but the service isnt very good. I took my mom for Mother's Day yesterday and it was the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. When we sat down it took about 10 minutes before the waitress even came over. She then said they were a bit backed up and it would be about 30 min. We had to ask for our appetizer since we had been waiting. We got our app after about 15min. We never saw another waitress until it had been an hour. We got our chow mein and had to ask to get more water and tea. 15 more minutes later we finally got our other plates. An hour and 15min is ridiculous! Then we got the bill and nothing was comped. I asked for a discount for our inconvienence. They took off 10 bucks.
The food was good but waiting an hour and 15min, not getting refills until we ask, and nobody asked us how it was. I don't know if we will be returning. Its too bad they don't care about their customers.
