Stopped in to the Squealing Pig for a late dinner, they were about to stop serving food at 10pm. The interior is pleasant but seems more like a bar than a restaurant. I had the Chicken Curry: Grilled chicken and mixed vegetables in nepali curry sauce served with rice ...overpriced @ $14.99. The amount was sufficient but hardly any chicken and for a curry dish, surprisingly bland. My partner had a burger which was unmemorable.
Service was attentive and Stella cold but probably wouldn't go back.
Nice beer selection, decent cocktails and subpar food. After the fireworks on the 4th, my boyfriend and I searched high and low for a spot where the kitchen didn't close early due to the holiday. Squealing Pig served food 'til 10 so we ordered some calamari, a pulled pork sandwich and a pesto chicken 'toastie' with chicken, pesto and brie (each was $12).
Honestly, nothing memorable, all completely mediocre. For all the excellent places to eat on Commercial Street, Squealing Pig does not rank highly. The page long bottle/draft list is impressive for the area but competes with the beer garden down the street. Also, the two seater tables in the middle of the bar are AWFUL when the bar counter is crowded - unless you like having everyone's asses in your face.
All in all, nothing special but service was good.
Eh.
This place is fun to come in the winter and nosh on some truffle fries and beer. However, I visited this place twice during Memorial Day weekend and was very unimpressed. Came here for drinks on Friday May 26th (awesome oyster shooters!) for drinks. Â Dined here on Sunday May 27th and was less than impressed with their food. I almost wanted to return it but didn't want to be that person. Waiter (glasses, beard, grey hair) was awesome and very friendly and I'm sure he would of understood but again, didn't want to be a pain in the.....you know.
Calamari was way overcooked and paired with freezing cold marinara and the pulled pork sandwich was so-so.
Overall, good service, good drinks, I'll pass on the food.
I visited the Pig the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend on a dreary day. This restaurant is relatively small, so we were barely able to squeeze in, as it seems very popular. Unfortunately, the waiter seemed to be overwhelmed and rushed away before everyone had given their drink refill orders. He also stalked us until we left, returning continually to circle like a vulture until we were gone, and we were not squatting. Lastly, I noticed two waitresses sitting at a perfectly good dining table rolling silverware when there was a line of people waiting to sit down. I'm no  Einstein, but you might want to give that table to paying customers. One saving grace is that the food was good, but with so many other restaurants in Ptown....
Review Source:My boyfriend and I had a weekend getaway and ended up coming here for a late dinner twice! Between those two nights we sampled the oyster platter, fish curry, Â salmon burger, fish and chips, the lobster roll...and a bunch of beers. The salmon burger was my favorite. It was huge but being salmon, it was still light on my stomach. I was very satisfied with that meal served with a Caesar salad. My boyfriend had the fish and chips and they came out crisp and fresh. The next night was a little fuzzier from watching the Bruins but I remember my lobster roll being delicious and my boyfriend's fish curry being very fragrant and filling.
We sat at the bar both nights and the bartender working those nights was extremely friendly and quick with the drink service. Overall, would definitely recommend a visit if only because their food service is open the latest.
Squealing pig opened its arms in a cold morning while we sought breakfast. The bartender was friendly and made good recommendation on what to order. We enjoyed his company and telltale while waiting for our order. We had a dozen oyster Asian style, the seafood chowder, the seafood combo, BLT, fish & chip and salad. All of them came across fresh, flavorful, just right to the temperature, and highly satisfying. The staff were friendly and attentive and never in your face. My friend enjoyed the Pigswill ipa.
During our 3 day stay we visited here twice. highly recommended for quality of fresh seafood and customer service.
As I was walking down Commercial St I was surprised to see a Squealing Pig. I've been to the location in Boston and figured it would be good to see how they compared.
We took a visit to PTown during the off season but it was still pretty lively at the Squealing Pig. We took the last available table and watched as about a dozen more people came in right after us.
We started off with the oysters. They were fresh, not much grit, and the cocktail sauce  had just the right amount of tang. I decided to stick with the seafood theme and ordered the fish & chips. The fish was fried in a really lightly seasoned batter and was quite tasty. I didn't feel totally greasy afterwards either. I changed up my fries to the Tuscan fries and it was well worth the extra $1. They weren't overpowering and they went perfectly with the fish.
My bf got the Shepard's Pie and raved about it. It was perfect for a cool night on the Cape.
They have a decent beer selection and the prices were decent too. Service was friendly and quick so no complaints there at all.
I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in town!
Good food, good prices, good service. I've eaten here a few times and never been disappointed. Oysters were great. Grass fed burger is yummy. The fried egg on the burger is an interesting and tasty difference from most. Arugula salad was very good. Dinner served until 10pm, and had to call about that, couldn't find it on their website (or I probably would have given five stars).
Review Source:Crowded and busy... but if you dont mind that, ecellent.
I have to admit I've only had the pulled pork sandwich, but... excellent, I have been trying to re-capture it in my own kitchen without luck.
This place is basically a bar with good food and popular among townies... It will be crowded in January as well as July.
But like ALL bars, even those of your home town, some hit upon good food and have a reputation on that fact, this is that place.
My friends and I ride our bikes to Provincetown from Plymouth once a year, eat up, get a little tanked, sleep it off, then take the ferry back to Boston in the morning. The Squealing Pig has become our absolute go-to for the eating and (at least the start of) the tanking parts of this tradition.
The fish sandwich is fantastic, and they'll do a preparation of oysters involving wasabi, tamari, and pickled ginger that's really refreshing and delicious. I can see that they have a great bottled beer list, but I've never had occasion to check it out because they have such a strong tap selection.
In the past two years we've ended up there for lunch before the ferry too, so one final note: bloody Mary oyster shooter!
New Years weekend my bf wanted to stop by the Squealing Pig for drinks and food. The place was busy, but had a free table. The waiter said that we would have to wait  to be seated. After 10 minutes I ask the waiter if we can just sit at the empty table. "No I'm gonna need that" the waiter said - we just left at that point.
Crappy service in my opinion in the off season.
Went here this past Saturday while visiting the cape for the weekend. I love this place. It is all that I want in a local restaurant. Good variety of menu, lots of local food and drink. Creative. Yummy. One of the best burgers I have ever had- cooked just right and juicy. The one I got was called the Hog Burger. Husband got the BLT. He said it was really good.
Review Source:Amazing lunch experience at the Squealing Pig (and we ran into friends here too which was pretty awesome). Â On a rainy cold day we settled into a cozy corner table in the window and the SP and I ordered a nice refreshing pumpkin beer. Â We warmed ourselves up with some of their truffle and parm fries a nice fatty and delicious indulgence. Â Then for our mains I had the organic lamb burger which was incredible, highly recommend it! Â It was cooked perfectly and had some great flava! Â The BF had the fried chicken which was also really good, I finished mine first and tried to eat some off his plate, big mistake! haha
The food here had some really awesome flavor combinations, it was simple yet packed a punch. Â I can't wait to go back and try more. Â I also really enjoyed the space, also simple but nice and cozy at the same time.
For PTown, this place had reasonable prices. That being said, in comparison to other locations, $13 for a cheeseburger was a bit steep especially since it was a somewhat undersized burger. Was it good? Yes, delicious. Would I be outraged to pay the same price for that small portion in my hometown? Absolutely.
My boyfriend and I both ordered the Hog Burger which had blue cheese, bacon, and these incredible, spicy chipotle caramelized onions on it. The burgers were great as well as were the hand cut fries, but as I already mentioned, we both felt the meals could've been more substantial. We were filled but ended up snacking on some granola about 20 minutes later when we got to our car, no lie.
The beer was OK. The server was conscientious enough to offer us a taste of two brews to help us to decide. We went with the 'Pig Swill' which was rather hoppy, not quite an IPA but close. We just had one each. I would've tried something else had I been ordering a second beer.
Service was good, but a little odd, as in it seemed like the server wanted to joke around with us more but was holding back. I got a weird vibe even though service was efficient. Another example: the server gave us the beer samples in little glasses. We took a couple of sips, then placed our order. He took the samples away. Why not just leave the samples? We would've gladly finished them.
Ambiance was plain but comfortable. There wasn't much in the way of decor that I could discern or embellish here. They had a large selection of bottled beers to choose from. Location was convenient as it is located right on Commercial Street like most anything a tourist in Provincetown is going to stumble upon. I'd give them 3.5 stars if I could.
After reading yelp reviews we came here knowing we'd get good beer and hoping the food was equally good. Thumbs up on the beer selection but the prices are high - I paid $2 less for the same bottled brew at a posh place down in Wellfleet.
Thumbs down on the food -- it's mediocre considering what you're paying. The chicken curry was flavorless and only had three chunks of chicken -- the rest was green bell peppers. The burger was average and there were only trace amounts of gorgonzola on top (which I paid extra for.) They were out of Wellfleet oysters which was a disappointment.
Our waiter was friendly but the tables were crowded together; a family with four very young kids directly behind us amped the noise up to unbearable levels.... and this was well after 7 pm on a school night in October.
Come for the beer, but eat elsewhere. There are better options in P-town for dining out.
Went here for dinner a couple of times during my stay in Provincetown.
The first time we ordered at the suggestion of a local and went with mainly Nepalese fare. Word on the street is that the chefs at this place are actually Nepalese and really know how to cook some mean curry.
We decided to give it a try and went with the curry fries, seafood chowder, spicy steak, and chicken curry.
Now I don't know if me being a little buzzed had anything to do with it, but this was one of the most satisfying meals I had while in P-town. The curry fries were tasty, as was the chicken and steak, but the seafood chowder stood out the most. So packed full of different seafood with an amazing cream broth, it really was delicious.
And all that food came in at under $50 and fed 3 hungry (buzzed) guys.
The second time I came in with a friend, we decided to go for a bowl of the seafood chowder (again), an order of the calamari, and an order of the seafood platter that came with shrimp, scallops, and fish.
Again, we were greeted with great flavors, this time sticking with the more traditional pub food. I was shocked at how flavorful everything was on the platter, especially the scallops. Again, the price was reasonable and we had enough food for the both of us.
The atmosphere of this place is great with interesting art and a lively bar crowd as well. The only downside is that sometimes the wait can be long (first time for us was 50 minutes) but the food is quality and worth the wait.
Great dinner spot in Ptown.
We stopped in early for lunch so it wasn't crowded. Â The service was good, no long waiting times. I got the burger, it was ok. I don't think I would get the burger if I went back again. Kinda on the dry side. My son got a salad, it was a bit on the smaller size for a salad, but it was good.
I guess people come here for the beer, makes sense seeing it is a pub. I unfortunately didn't get to try the beer. Everyone seated around me did want to try a certain beer, that they said, Â "had just come in and wasn't cold enough to serve".
Very pleasant surprise in a touristy area.
My boyfriend and I wanted oysters, a lobster roll and fish and chips; this place had everything and it satisfied every craving.
Oysters were tasty and very reasonably priced - 6 for $10. For a dollar more you could have them asian style...which if I ever make it back to P-town, I'd happily try it.
Lobster roll was overflowing with lobster meat and came served with a well done piece of bacon on top. Believe it or not, it complimented the roll. (It's laid perfectly on top, so it's easy to eat separately.) Fish and chips were crisp and juicy, but the star was certainly the tartar sauce which had some incredible flavor to it. And the fries.
Had the Pigswill brew, which I enjoyed.
P-town may have been too touristy for me, but I would certainly wouldn't mind going for Squealing Pig. Many items coming out of the kitchen looked extremely appetizing. I'd be willing to try some other items. Everything else we had was extremely satisfying.
I was hungover, hot, and the last thing I wanted was a drink. Or so I thought...
Walked into this joint, bellied up to the bar and ordered a glass of wine. Just needed a little dog hair and I was back in business.
They had a good wine and beer selection. I would definitely come back to try the food out. Â It is one of those places you could be in for hours, and come out and forget it is daylight.
The waitress was great about refilling my water too. Gotta stay hydrated!
We have been coming to PTown for years and are always on the lookout for good eats. This year's find was The Squealing Pig. Here's the low down:
The short version: if you are willing to be assertive you will be rewarded with really good pub food.
The long version:
1. The others are correct, the service is lackluster at best. Grab a menu from the rack on the door and seat yourself. Eventually someone will take your order. Go ahead and be pushy and then leave the tip you think they deserve.
2. They have some good beers on tap, but they are frequently out of their best beer: the Pig Swill.
3. The food is excellent. The fried offerings are light and not greasy. Chili is great. Curried chicken is solid. Burgers are very good, but they may bring you medium even if you ask for medium rare. They will forget anything you asked for on the side. They will not notice your empty glass. But the food is good enough to make up for the crappy service. But if there isnt immediately a seat available keep walking, because you will never be seated.
3. The play loud thumpa thumpa music and often have several screens playing sports games. But the atmosphere is pub like and generally cozy.
4. They window seats at the front allow for excellent people watching for the pageant that is PTown.
Worth the effort.
I think this place is good, but it's one of those things where I wouldn't need to go back. Â The place is small and does not accommodate well for large parties. Â My plate of a variety of seafood (scallops, shrimp, haddock) was really good but not outstanding. Â What I did think was delicious was the Sheppard's pie! Â What a surprise! Â It was made with lamb and was super tender. Â
Stop by if you're in need of some Pub food, otherwise, why not dine at one of restaurants that specialize in just seafood? Â When in rome!
One of my favorite restaurants in Provincetown  everything on the menu is amazing:  the Tuscan fries, curry anything, and the kabobs are my all time favorites.  But you cant go wrong no matter what you order.  the burger selection:  especially the grass fed, squealing pig burger, and the samon burger are amazing.  the raw bar is great too, the local oysters, and oyster shooters are amazing.  the staff is friendly and very accommodating  and the beer selection is awesome.  i highly recommend this place.  just a note the Pig is a Bar/Restaurant so it may be loud at times but all the positives definitely outweigh the noisy atmosphere sometimes.  I highly reccomend "The Pig" for lunch or dinner anytime.  oh and dont forget the "toasties" they are an amazing collection of grilled sanwiches!
Review Source:Went to Cape Cod for the weekend and visited Provincetown for a day. There were a bunch of restaurants that we wanted to try but they were all closed since it was the off season. This place happened to be open and looked inviting. The interior is cozy and it got crowded while we were there in the afternoon. We got a dozen oysters, the chowder, the seafood fry platter and a couple of beers. The oysters were great, I could have easily eaten a dozen more. The chowder was really good also. The fry platter was decent. I loved the IPA that I had. I wish for the life of me I could remember what it was called!
The only complaint about the place is the service. We were waited on by about 3 different people, all of whom were cold and did not smile once. Thought it was really weird since it seemed like a very laid back place.
Probably won't return in the future if other places are open.
Amazing tap line. Â A-frikking-mazing. I fell in love with the Lost Sailor. Â
We called ahead and ordered food from the theater, so we could get some chow. Â That was a great tip. Â We didn't go fancy: burgers, and the fried fish plate. Â Both were totally yummy. Â Terrific fries, too (skins on, and really crispy). Â The burgers were really savory and juicy. Â The fried fish plate even included scallops and was a great bargain for what we got.
The staff was really nice and attentive. Â I think they just spiffied the place up, and it's nice and clean and cozy. Â I kind of wish this place was down the block from me; I'd be a regular.
The high points are the beer selection, which is awesome, and the oysters, which are fresher-than-fresh. Try the Asian oysters for something a little bit different.
I also had the fish fry, which was just standard fare and pretty unremarkable. I visited at the end of the season, and so didn't get to try the shrimp cocktail or other fresh items since they weren't available! So sad.
The service is okay but the waiting is a nightmare. There is no host/hostess to speak of, and there is no list or method to organize groups waiting for tables. It becomes a little bit of a brawl during busier times; my friends and I decided to go elsewhere for a drink rather than wait 45+ minutes for a table at around 1 PM. We came back at 2 for a late lunch and still waited over 20 minutes... and this was not at the peak of the season by any means!
I'd definitely run in there again for the oysters and a Chimay Blanche, but only if I could grab a spot at the bar and not wait. Otherwise, I'd spend my pennies (and my hours) elsewhere.
Ahh the Squeeling Pig, once a gem on Commercial Street now seems to have succumbed to the humdrums and joined the ranks of the rest of Provincetown's uninspired victualers who no longer feel it's worth the effort for food to taste good in this sleepy seaside village. Frankly, that makes me sad -- because I counted this place among my favorites.
Though they still boast a chili that may well be the best in town, other old standards seem to have lost their luster. Burgers, once juicy, Â have become depressingly dry. The fried chicken they brag about is rubbery with a flavorless breading. The curry fries, for years a total hit, undercooked, under-crisped and over-soggy -- the sauce just isn't the same either. What happened to the kick?
Though the service is decent, they have probably two tables too many. The cramped quarters make the place nearly impossible to move around in when it's packed, (and it is often packed). It seems to me a table with four chairs should fit four people and those people should have no trouble leaving or going to the rest room without asking a neighbor to get up too.
Is it worth the wait? Probably not. But I cannot tell you where to go instead. What the Pig has probably figured out, it doesn't actually matter. PTown's a captive audience when it comes to cuisine, good, bad or bland, they'll probably pack the place no matter what.
I watched the football and baseball game while I dined on my fish and chips and enjoyed a beer. Â They have an excellent beer list by the bottle and on tap. Â Their bottle selection is far stronger than their draft selection. Â So it is not fancy pants fare.
The fish and chips were excellent. Â I loved the flavor of the fish. Â They were not overly battered and they were fried to a perfect point. Â The fish was fresh and bursting with tastiness. Â Their hand cut fries were also very good. Â I'd give the fish five stars and the fries four stars.
The venue is a little cramped. Â The bar is also at an awkward height in comparison to the stools you sit on. Â You feel like you are reaching down a bit more than you would have otherwise. Â The bartender was excellent. Â He provided great service to all from what I observed. Â I'd give the service four and a half stars.
The TV quality is good but not great. Â However, it is fine for watching a game and enjoying something to eat and drink. Â The folks there as patrons were friendly as well. Â We were all engaged in conversation with each other, which was nice.
They need some outdoor seating in back to view the bay. Â I am not sure that is possible, but it if it is I'd expand and add the feature.
We got the lobster toastie and a burger with blue cheese and grilled onion. Both were tasty. The lobster toastie was a nice lobster panini with good sized chunks of lobster meat and not overly expensive for lobster. The fries are nicely seasoned but don't come with as much as I am used to getting with a sandwich. However, it was just the right amount. It  was a good thing since the more fries I have the more I will eat since I always have to finish my plate. There was a good selection of beer and the bar was packed on a Sunday night. There was a table near us with a big group playing beer games which is always a plus for me when that is allowed.
Our waitress was super nice and attentive. She was very helpful and friendly and asked us if we'd like to switch to a nicer table with a better view without us asking. She seemed a bit drunk but that didn't hinder our service at all, just added to the atmosphere.
This was my favorite place to eat in Provincetown because the food was so delicious! Â And after eating at some disappointing places (I'm talking about you Mews), my boyfriend and I decided to eat here a second time because we loved it so much.
And it was the best. decision. ever.
The first time we ate here for lunch, we ordered the Tuscan fries, the Pesto Chicken Toastie, and Fish and Chips. Â
I can't emphasize enough how amazing the Tuscan fries are! Â French fries sprinkled with parmesan cheese, porcini, and truffle oil! Â While my boyfriend was a little suspicious when I ordered them, once he tried one he agreed they were the greatest thing we ordered. Â The Fish and Chips were one of the best we've had in New England. Â Nice flaky batter with really great seasoning surrounding delicate, yummy fish. Â
The only item that wasn't that impressive was the ceasar salad that came with my Toastie. Â The salad was covered with the kind of powdered parmesan cheese that I would use to drown my spaghetti with as a kid. Â And the croutons were just alright. Â
The second time we went for dinner and ordered the Tuscan fries (obviously), Squealing Pig Burger, and Spicy Beef Kabobs. Â My boyfriend was loving his burger (and I had a bite, it was tasty)...until...he had a bite of my beef kabob. Â For the rest of the night he had kabob envy. Â I have no idea what marinade or rub is used on the beef, but I want to bathe in it. Â Yeah, it's that good.
i love pigglies!
This is a down to earth laid back pub with a huge selection of beers and amazing food. if your looking for good atmosphere that's one step up from the townie creepfest at the Governor Bradford and several steps down from bitchy queenfest at any number of other stops along commercial street check out the Squealing Pig.
Food is absolutely delicious. nothing posh or snooty about it-just really good solid pub food cooked with love by their Nepalese lady chef. Choices are standards like steak and chips, Shepard's pie, chicken curry to other more eclectic options like lamb burgers with cucumber yogurt sauce, kebabs and fried chicken.
With a clientele as equally eclectic, ranging from gay couples, to families with kids, to blue collar locals, this place is welcoming to all.
But ladies I got news for you...that hot guy in the plaid shirt, woolly cap and sexy rugged beard? Put down your lip gloss honey cause that's a bear.
Came here on my first night in P-Town. With such an alluring sign, it's hard to pass on this place!
Full bar, relaxing atmosphere, eccentric interior (as expected, being that it's in Provincetown!) and a solid menu. hip-hip, hoooray!
Menu is loaded with simple fare- sandwiches with fries topped with a pickle. Can't complain much about that. Fresh oysters are A+ here.
Next time I trek out to P-Town, I'm HERE!
Really cozy and great beers.
The bartenders have always been wonderful and friendly.
Food here is amazing. I recommend trying the toasties, but they have fresh seafood as well.
There are tvs but they're never super in-your-face, and I believe they project major sporting events on the wall too.
I love this place.
First things first. Â The food is overpriced and the iced tea is sweetened. Â (It is my understanding that it should be against the restaurant law to not tell the customers that a tea is sweetened.)
My garden burger was decent, but you have to try pretty hard to screw up a garden burger. Â Oh, and the fries were pretty damn good.
My mom had the fish and chips, which were excellent. Â The batter was light and flaky, and the fish had been caught earlier in the day.
My brother had a burger, and by looking at what he left on the plate, it was good eats.
My only real complaint about the place is just that they should have a "seat yourself" sign out for all of us dummies who don't know whether we should seat ourselves or look like dorks in the entryway.
One of three "straight" bars in P-Town, which means half-straight. Â Great selection of beer, like the Squealing Pig in Boston, but with the special inclusion of Dirty Dick Ale. Â Like I said, half-straight is as close to straight as you're getting in P-Town. Â Don't look at me, man, I ordered wine. Â
The food is slightly better than average bar fare, but slightly more expensive too; I can't say I particularly recommend it. Â The service is a bit distracted, the fries are excellent, the fish is fresh and the blue cheese dressing is the worst I've ever had, which is saying quite a lot since I'm a blue cheese aficionado. Â It's not even that it tastes bland; it's like it has negative taste. Â
Dennis the Irish bartender is very cool, and the ambiance before the band sets up is perfect: music at exactly the right level to obscure the conversations around you without drowning them out altogether, light bright enough to see, dim enough to still be a bar. Â (After the band sets up, it is louder.) Â The walls are red, and my wife likes red walls. Â We talked about how Maury Povich keeps it real, but Jerry Springer is a sellout. Â The jukebox is spectacularly random. Â Choice highlights: Grace Jones; The Bridget Jones's Diary soundtrack; the best of the Pogues.
