I love Sri Siam when I'm visiting my grandma (she likes it too) in Morton Grove. Here are the reasons why:
Service: The server, Anna is always friendly and courteous. She offers water if you're waiting for a carry out order. She's the server, busser, cashier, order taker, and hostess so be patient people!
Price: Their pricing is in line with other Thai places in the area. But the best deal is the lunch special. You get an appetizer, soup of the day, and an entree from the lunch menu for only $6.95.
Food: Some Thai restaurants try to offer everything under the Thai food gamut and get it wrong. Sri Siam doesn't have the most expansive menu, but I appreciate it that. They know what they're good at making, and that's all they offer. I really like their noodles dishes and curry dishes. For noodles, Pad See Ewe and Pad Woon Sen are my favorites. For curry, I really like their green curry and Panang curry. Also, they offer brown rice as an option which is rare at Thai restaurants. ($1 for upgrade, but I don't mind).
You may ask if I love everything here, why doesn't get 5 stars? Well, being Thai, no one makes better Thai food than my family so I don't ever give out 5 stars to Thai restaurant. Biased, I know! :)
I would have to say that, although this place looks like a hole in the wall, don't let the looks fool you. Â The food here is a tiny bit above average compared to other Thai restaurants in Chicago. Â We ordered the lunch specials, which included a soup of the day, an appetizer, and an entree. Â I asked if I would be able to substitute another soup other than the vegetable tofu they were serving, but our server said no. Â I was even willing to pay for the substitution...
Anyways, I had the vegetable tofu soup, cucumber salad and green curry. Â I asked to have the green curry spicy and it was definitely spicy. Â It was not as green as you would assume a green curry would be, but the flavors were there. Â The cucumber salad tasted like cucumbers... The vegetable tofu soup was a tasty basic soup, but vegetarians should watch out since the broth is made from chicken. Â This is not listed on the menu and we would not have been sure if we hadn't asked the server.
My sister ordered the soup, crab rangoons and beef pad thai. Â The crab rangoons were pretty good. Â I would order the crab rangoons again for sure. Â The pad thai was presented nicely but the taste was only average. Â It was a little too sweet.
All in all, the food was slightly tastier than the average Thai restaurant, but nothing too special. Â Although our server wasn't able to help me substitute the soup with another one, she was friendly and very attentive. Â When we were done and were going out the door, all the workers thanked us for coming and bid us farewell...It was a good feeling! Â I would come back here to try a few other dishes.
ordered delivery...tried a bunch of things. Â Nothing was exceptional and I felt like they skimped on ingredients and even left some ingredients out.
Chicken Satay: good peanut sauce...dry flat lifeless chicken skewers
Chicken Green Curry: Pretty good except they left out the thai eggplant and there wasn't much chicken
Beef Pad Kee Mao: Flavorful and yummy noodles but they once again left out an ingredient that was on the menu (mushrooms which happen to be my favorite part) and there wasn't much beef
Crab Rangoon: Â Not very good..the dough was raw in some places and the filling was dry and seemed kinda old
Taro Custard: Â Took a few bites and it was ok and then I took a bite that tasted like raw potato and garlic which turned me off
It gets two stars because the delivery was quick and the food wasn't inedible and didn't make me sick.
The food I ordered for lunch in this place was disgusting. It consisted of several big leafs if iceberg lettuce and some nasty meat which resembled dog food. To add insult to injury, the portion size was very small. Oh, and I paid $10 for this fiasco!
Well, I wanted to give it a try based on all the positive reviews and I was wrong. Will stick with Panera Bread for my lunch options  going forward.
Sri Siam Thai in Morton Grove, Illinois is my newest favorite spot in the Northern Suburbs. Maybe it's the crazy amount of spice that haunts me, yet keeps me coming back for more. My favorite dish is pictured below and it's literally called, "Stir-Fried Hell." Oh, and they happen to put an asterisk next to the name on the menu in case you didn't realize it was going to be hot. This is my newest restaurant that I would like to feature on Check Please! Maybe some day soon. Enjoy!

atmosphere: basic little asian in a strip mall. pleasant, small and not much of a decor, but clean and efficient
food: the thai beef entry was a little americanized but good, the crab rangoon=tasty, the maseman curry= good although the chicken was either dried out or average quality
price: very reasonable, $9 per dish on average with appetizers in the $4-6 range.
Good food at a good price but nothing that will be remembered
This has turned into our favorite go-to Thai place near home. The food is delicious, the service is prompt, and the dishes are refreshingly ungreasy. The heat levels are right on. I highly recommend the Holy Basil, Shrimp in Clay Pot, and Pad See Ewe, and also like that they offer brown rice with their entrees.
Review Source:Silly me forgot my lunch on Friday and was looking for something somewhat healthy that delivered.
So, I turned to GrubHub, and begrudgingly ordered a delivery order ($15 minimum.)
Edamame appetizer - figured it would be a good snack for later, and I was right.
Chicken Satay - while the peanut sauce was perfect, the chicken was VERY dry and VERY bland.
Pork Pad Se Ewe with chinese broccoli - I like that they offer the choice of chinese broccoli or regular, and that pork was an option. Â Unfortunately, the whole dish just fell a bit flat. Â While it was plentiful and not greasy like some other Thai joints can be, the flavor was just lacking. Â Parts of the egg were charred well past deliciousness, and the sauce didn't taste like pad se ewe should. Â Not sweet at all.
I'll pass the next time, there are several other Thai places on GH I want to try.
The new management has done a nice change with the incandescent lights - no more fluorescents! Service was nice but they forgot to bring utensils a few times.
Food was as good as before - mildly spicy tom kha kai, basil chicken with ground meat had a hit if spice at the end of each bite, crispy fried shrimp dumplings - (although they were triangle shaped and flat) and the very delicious shrimp in clay pot which we highly recommend.
I abandoned Sri Siam a couple years ago after a negative customer service experience. A few months ago my husband got take out from Sri Siam. When he came home he told me they had new owners but same chef - he convinced me to give it another try. Their menu is great - all the standards are there but some more unique dishes are making their way into the menu which is refreshing. Very good service - friendly staff who try to please every customer. Â My favorite dishes so far: noodle soup, chive dumplings, tom kha soup, noodle soup, cashew chicken, and pineapple fried rice. I have to mention noodle soup twice because it so easily overlooked but it is oh so good on a cold winter night.
Review Source:Tiny place but so good. I must have passed this place a 101 times and never went.in.untill I saw the reviews on yelp. I went in for dinner around 6 and.no.one was there  with.in half hour the place was packed. We got.the stuffed wing as an appetizer ( not the best) then got the pepper steak.meal.and holy basil entree ...both really good . There were a bunch of.other things I wanted to try.so definetly going back
Review Source:Went to lunch with high hopes after reading the reviews. Don't know if they were having an off day, but what a great disappointment!
Ordered seafood salad to start off--there was a teeny tiny wedge of iceberg lettuce (to justify its name as salad) surrounded by an assortment of overcooked imitation crab sticks, a few token pieces of baby scallops, mussels and 3-4 pieces of shrimp barely cooked. Very disappointing. Trying to decide if we should be praying not to feel the after-effects of the semi-raw shrimp or if it'd be best to get it out of the system.
HB ordered lunch special--basil chicken. Nothing remarkable. Looked like they just scooped from the premade vat. Either the restaurant was too cold, or it must have been left out a bit because it was just starting to congeal. At least it was only $6.95, and included soup, choice of potsticker, eggroll, or crab rangoon.
For my main course, I ordered panang shrimp curry with noodles. Somehow this must have thrown them in a tizzy because we ended up waiting at least 30 to 40 minutes to just get our food. Was it worth the wait? Sadly, no. Noodles were mushy (overcooked) and watering down the curry so it was more soup-like. At least it was fresher than the other dishes.
If you're looking for great Thai in the area, this is NOT it. Gunmai Thai in Arlington Heights is so much better and fresher.
This place is fantastic! And they deliver to Glenview.
For a main course... The Holy Basil Chicken is really good. The Panang Curry is solid. I usually order dishes medium spicy. A warning: They blew me up once when I requested hot.
For apps... The Pot Stickers are great, as are the Shu Mai. The Tod Mun Pla (fish cakes) are surprisingly yummy. I also dig the Summer Rolls.
I like that the whole family seems to work there.
This place is probably the best thai food you will get in the area and thats not saying much because there are not that many but the quality of food, how it is prepared, and whatever else they do make their dishes delicious. Â
I went to Sri Siam for the first time 2 weeks ago and I ordered the Pad Kee Mao and the Pad Kee Ewe and got both of them really spicy. I nearly died from the heat level but it was so good that I couldn't stop. There is plenty of veggies and the pork that i got was really tender. I was so surprised because the place I usually go to, Â the meat is very dry and over cooked with no flavor but this place... wow....
I learned my lesson from getting extra spicy and came back again. Order the same thing and I savored ever... single... bite... Took one of my friends there with me and he practically did the same thing...
The only negative is that the wait is eh.... but its well worth it...
You got yourself a regular but I'll just do carry out next time so I don't have to wait.
I was being lazy and decided not to cook and Sri Siam was one of the only places in the area that delivered according to Yelp. Â I was able to order pretty easily and the order taker even mentioned that due to the amount of money that I was spending I could get a free appetizer. Â That was very nice since most of the time unless you mention that you have a coupon the order taker will not mention any specials. Â
The food arrived very quickly which was a plus but I was highly disappointed when I open up the bag . Â They only included one small container of sweet and sour sauce and no soy sauce which I asked for. Also, the containers for the noodle dishes were very flimsy and cracked therefore causing the juices from the container to spill and burn my hand...not happy!!!
For the food, the noodle dishes were a good value...the size and the price but the food was very bland...really needing the sauce the I asked for. Â Also, Â I felt that the crab rangoon was too expensive for the size and also the filling was too thin and runny. Â Overall, the food was o.k. and I would definitely try them again. Â Maybe this time, actually going to the restaurant and picking up my order versus delivery.
Bottom line: Â The best Thai food in the area - fantastic food! Â
My wife and I went there for dinner Saturday night. Â We chose Sri Siam because of all of the great reviews. Â I arrived with high hopes, my wife was a little less so, but willing to give the strip mall restaurant a try. Â
The cons: Â well, it isn't a fancy place. Â Seating for maybe 25 total. Â Clean if a bit cluttered in the back.
The pros: Â The food! Â Delicious, nicely portioned and reasonably priced. Â Super service. Â The matron came out at one point to check if the soup was too spicy for my wife - a nice, caring touch.
Here's what we had:
Cucumber salad - as good as any I've had anywhere
Summer roles - perfectly balanced and fresh ingredients with a flavorful sauce
Tom Yum Soup - spicy & tangy with generous amount of meat
Cashew Chicken - perhaps the best Asian food dish I've had in many years. Â This was the award winner for the evening. My wife's eyes lit up when she tried it.
Green Curry - perfect blend of vegetables, meat and thick curry.
This was more than we could eat in one sitting, so it made for a wonderful lunch on Sunday.
This is definitely my go to place for Thai food near where i live. Â I'll be treating friends to their fare as soon as I can arrange it.
Go there hungry, leave with a smile.
Cleanest Thai restaurant I have ever been in. Â The Tom Yum Soup is hot and spicy as it should be. Â The mini eggrolls are more like spring rolls a favorite of my children. Â The Spicy Calamari Salad is my favorite dish on the menu. Â This is a once a week stop for lunch and every couple of weeks pick up for dinner for the family. Â Well Done! Â Great parking in a beautifully landscaped strip mall. Â Enjoy.
Thanks for the good food and service.
Dave
By far the best Thai food I've ever had anywhere. They are truly Thai and from the Bangkok area. They do all their own cooking and don't have non Thai cooks like some Thai places do. Having lived in Thailand, I know what Thai food should taste like. I honestly feel like it's better than any restaurant I've eaten at in Thailand too!.
The Som Tom (Spicy papaya salad) is spot on .. I ask them to use fresh lime juice instead of the bottled lime juice. Pad Thai is delicious! Tastes very very good.. The servings are huge too! Larb Chicken is my favorite there. All the soups are amazing. Tom Yum, Tom Kha. WOOW
Try their sticky rice w mango. MMMmmmmhh
My favorite restaurant by far. Thank you!.
You wouldn't expect this small and unassuming place to be the best, but its actually really delish. They have really really inexpensive lunch deals, like 7 bucks for an entree, coup, and choice of egg roll or potstickers.
Green curry is my favorite yet, its super authentic tasting and nice and spicy!
Ive also had the pad see ewe, which is great and the same goes for the panang.
And yup, they have tofu (not like you probably care, but I do!)
Great place!
Don't quite know how I've forgotten to review this place. I've been coming here for a long time, they've always done a good job. It's family run, and the family is friendly, so the service is always good. The atmosphere is cozy, with wooden benches and little pillows to soften them. The decorations on the walls are nice too. The food is really good, and a good value if you're around here for the lunch special. I've had various dishes here, they were flavorful, fresh and were good-tasting. This is a very good choice if you live in the area and like Thai.
Review Source:I am always looking for a good Thai restaurant and I've found a new favorite at Sri Siam. Â So far, I have tried 3 of my favorite Thai dishes, Panang curry (w/ beef), Pad Thai, and Stir Fried Garlic Pepper (w/ chicken) and all three were delicious! Â There are many more items on their menu which I can't wait to try!
Review Source:A small quaint place that serves fantastic flavorful food! Â This is a sweet gem found in a strip mall. Â For starters we chose something different: Â Chive (rice) dumplings and Stuffed Chicken Wings. Â Both were great. Â For dinner we shared Yum Woonsen salad which had a variety of flavors that were quite tasty, Tom Yum Noodle Soup (hot & tart), Pad See Ewe and Jungle Noodles. Everything was quite tasty. Â Service was quick and the dishes were delivered immediately upon being cooked, & at different times.
This is my new favorite Thai restaurant here in the 'burbs. Â We'll definitely be back.
At first glance, this little thai restaurant looks so ghetto from the outside being located in a dull looking strip center. But aren't the BEST and most genuine thai places hole-in-the-walls anyways!!
This place is really genuine and very very tasty. Portions are great and the prices are very reasonable! (each dish i get is about $6-8 each) Â Great place to get a casual bite or just get carry out. (no really! this place is a great carry out option if you have company over). Â Fast service, usually.
MM MMM MMMMM
- Pad See Ewe - I love getting this flat noodle dish with beef. At bad thai places they can make this taste like Panda Express - but Sri Siam cooks the noodles just right and with the right amount of seasoning to make you want to eat this whole dish yourself!
- Pad Woon Sen - I love Ruby of Siam's version and I love this place's. Lots of nicely stir fried veggies and egg mixed into a yummily seasoned vermicelli mix. I like selecting chicken as the meat for this dish.
- Curries - I love all of them. They can be a bit more waterly than other places and  usually you have to ask for more rice on the side, but the FLAVOR is very good. I like all the curries but this past time I had the Masamun Curry and they make it very nicely here. Tastes well with chicken.
-Pad Thai - your standard thai dish is...yes...very good here..and I don't even usually like Pad Thai!
- Basic Fried Rice - I had this dish for the first time this past week - Wow! This is probably one of the best thai fried rices I've experienced. Â I put the yummpy factor of this dish up there with Joy Yee's Pineapple Chicken Shrimp Fried Rice. Another good selection with chicken.
Sri Siam-an easy place to miss...and MISS OUT! haha. Â Small moms and pops place with consistently good thai food.
My fav dishes so far:
1. Â Basil Fried Rice
2. Â Panang Noodle Dish
3. Â Pad See Ewe
4. Â Pad Woon Sen
5. Â Pad Thai
Cheap & good for take out. Â The service is friendly, super casual. My go-to place in the burbs.
Will be back.=D
I highly recommend that you try this unassuming little restaurant located in a strip mall in not so trendy Morton Grove. The food is consistently excellent and extremely fresh and the portion sizes generous. Â They have a good sized menu and I haven't had a bad dish yet.
The only drawback has been the wait time. Â They have a very small kitchen and staff. Â Last time I ordered food on a Saturday night, it took them nearly an hour to fill the order. Â I arrived at the time specified and had to wait an additional 35 minutes to get my food. Â They were very apologetic, but I would have preferred a better estimate of the time needed to prepare the food rather than spend thirty-five minutes waiting.
Definitely worth the trip if you live anywhere in the area.
Yes, this is in a strip mall and  hard to maneuver into the lot...but it's worth the trouble. If this review were of the old owners, it would easily be a five star. The food was of waaay better quality and better priced. It was sold a year or two ago and although the same chefs are still there, the portions are smaller and the service is less friendly. Dishes I like there: pad thai, spicy chicken salad, pad woonsen, masaman curry, three flavor snapper and basil fried rice.  Definitely a good take out place and there is a lunch menu as well.
Review Source:WHAT A FIND!
It's so easy to miss this place - I've driven past this strip mall daily for 2 years and just noticed it a few weeks ago. Â I'm always looking for a good Thai place in the suburbs but I've always been disappointed...until today!
The pad see ewe here is perfectly seasoned, slightly peppery, a little salty, not too heavy on the soy sauce flavor. Â The restaurant actually lets you PICK what type of broccoli you want (regular or Chinese) which is a first for me. Â The yellow curry here is probably one of the best curry dishes I've had in this area. Â
They have pretty amazing lunch specials: for ~$6.50 you get a crispy egg roll (vegetarian) - very light, not too oily, not too thick or too skinny - and if you dine in you get your choice of soup but if you get it to go you get cucumber salad. Â
Portions are generous! Definitely at least 2 meals for me (maybe only 1 for the husband) and everything is really tasty. Â
Unfortunately the poor lady who works here seems to be by herself? Â She's really sweet and friendly, but when there are more than 2-3 customers, it can take awhile to get your order in. Â
YUM. Â I will be back for more :)
After so many positive Yelp reviews, it seemed like the place to go for dinner while staying at the hotel down the street.
Like nearly every delicious asian restaurant I've ever discovered, it's not much to look at, but is quite cozy. Â The lady who waited on us was quite charming and kind. Â Most importantly, just like other Yelpers have said, the food was delicious.
Ordered the Sri Siam Seafood Green Curry, easily the best curry I've ever had. Â Took a taste of a friend's Pad Thai, which was also quite good. Â Now, I've never had Thai food in Thailand, but I get the sense that this food was prepared in a very traditional sense. Â It had this extra edge of flavor and love put into the making.
Prices were quite reasonable, too, with dinner entrees between 8$ and 10$.
My husband and young son have dined here multiple times as well as picked up and had food delivered. We love Thai food and have eaten at many establishments in Chicago. Sri Siam is top-notch and I highly recommend it.
My favorite Thai meal is Pad See Ewe and Sri Siam's dish is terrific. Other places offer lifeless noodles or salty sauce: Sri Siam's is just perfect. My husband has enjoyed their curry dishes and the Holy Basil Chicken, which is now his favorite.
We have also ordered their soups, which are plentiful and flavorful. Also the fried rices are much better than any standard fried rice. The BBQ Pork Fried rice is what we like to get for our son.
With delivery and carry-out orders of $15 or more they give a choice of free appetizer. We have eaten their potstickers (our son's favorite) and their crab rangoon, which I normally don't care for, but I enjoyed theirs.
Special dishes: the Curry Puff appetizer is out of this world. We get it every time. Also the Fried Banana dessert (!!) melts in your mouth.
Definitely check this place out. Also it's a mom-and-pop kinda place and they recognize us now, which is endearing.
If you live in Chicago and love Thai food, you probably have been/heard of Thai Grocery, a small grocery store located on N. Broadway and Argle. Â Unfortunately, it has been closed for over a year now. Â Thai Grocery offered various ethnic goods and especially authentic carry-out Thai food that was made locally in the store. Â If you miss Thai Grocery's food, you are in luck of finding it at Sri Siam. Â The ex-Thai Grocery cook has taken over Sri Siam since Jan 2009. Â I had only one chance to visit the restaurant before leaving Chicago for good, and it was still the same as I remember. Â The food was excellent and so was the service. Â It was unfortunate that I had to move to Tucson. Â I have been craving for good Thai food here but I haven't found any restaurant that is nearly as good as Sri Siam. Â
Bottom line, This restaurant deserves a 5-star rating and I will definitely be visiting this restaurant anytime I am in Chicago.
UPDATED: This place has changed ownership and it's not as good as it used to be.
I recently tried Sri Siam on 1/3/09 for the first time. Based on the past reviews I didn't know what to expect. I've been to the other local Thai restaurants and was looking for something different. It is small and cute with an all wood interior. The service was good but the food was awesome!
I tried the Spicy Ground Chicken with Basil, Green Chicken Curry and Shrimp Fried Rice. Wow! What flavor!! I generally use Basil Chicken and the curries as a benchmark and they both received high ratings IMHO. I also like to try Thai Iced Coffee and it was very good. Just like Thailand.
I spoke with the waitress to learn more about their business. She told me that they just changed management and that was their first day open. I gave them five stars considering it was their first day open, the place looked like it was run well and the food was on spot! Next time I go back I'll be trying their noodles.
Alan and Marissa's reviews appear to have been similar experiences to mine. Sue didn't say what she didn't like about the food. That made me curious to check her other reviews. She gave Rosded Too 5 stars. When I asked other people about Rosded, they told me it's not as good as the original Rosded in the city. So this leads me to believe that Sue is either a friend, an employee or the owner of Rosded. If you are looking for fresh Thai food with superb flavor, try Sri Siam and see for yourself.
That's my yelp and I'm sticking to it!
I stopped in Sri Siam for lunch & I'll definitely stop in again! Â The restaurant is located in a strip mall and the decor was simple. Â A few booths (with cute, colorful cushions on the wooden benches) lined the windows & small tables were scattered around the rest of the restaurant. Â The restaurant was not very busy and the manager (also the server) was very friendly and chatty (I was eating alone). Â
The lunch menu was inexpensive, only $6.45 for an entree, soup, and egg roll. Â The egg roll was good - Â crisp & not too greasy. Â I didn't finish my soup, seeing as it was 90 degrees today and I wasn't confident that it wasn't chicken broth (I'm vegetarian). Â I ordered the basil dish with vegetables and tofu - delicious! Â Nice colors with red & green peppers, filled with basil and tofu, served in a great sauce. Â It was a little on the spicy side for me, I'll definitely order it mild next time. Â A nice sized order, I brought the leftovers home - yesss, a late-night snack!
BOTTOM LINE: Â Good value & a very nice manager make this a great spot to stop for lunch or dinner.
I found Sri Siam sort of by accident. Â I used Google's great service of being able to look up places through text messaging. Â I have loved everything I have ordered from here. Â There Thai Rolls are excellent. Â We have not eaten in the restaurant, only delivery. Â It has been slow and they have had problems finding the restaurant.
