What a great addition to the Forest Hills area! Â My husband and I stopped by this past weekend to check it out and we were impressed! Â This place has a cool ambiance, a great selection of craft beer, and an awesome bar staff!
My husband is really into beer and he loved the beer selection. Â I, on the other hand, have never really found my way into beer but I figured I should give it a try and see if within this large beer selection there may be a beer I would like. Â I told the bartender that I'm unfamiliar with craft beer, and she was extremely accomodating! Â She provided 3 different samples of beers she felt I would like and low and behold we were able to find a winner! Â
The only piece of my experience that wasn't top notch was the food. Â We ordered a pizza and fried meatballs. Â Not only did it take almost a half an hour for the food to arrive, but when it got there we found the pizza to be underwhelming and the meatballs weren't thoroughly cooked. Â The bartender (chris) did warn us upon ordering the pizza that it would be small, but it was also soggy and the sauce was a little saltier in my opinion than it should be. Â Also, the meatballs had far too much beer batter. Â
In conclusion- Station House has a lot of good things going for it. Â Once the food catches up with all the other awesome elements this bar has to offer there is no doubt in my mind that it will do very well here in Forest Hills. Â As far as I'm concerned- I'll be back for sure!
Never thought I would give a bar five stars, but here I am. Â This place is a keeper. So glad we have some more quality choices in the Forest Hills neighborhood. Â RIght downstairs from the LIRR and a block from the subway, you couldn't get any more convenient. Add to that an excellent beer and liquor selection, plus some amazing food, you got yourself a winner.
My fiance and I choose to celebrate her birthday at Station House earlier tonight. Â We called around six to have a table of 10 set aside for us. Keep in mind, this is a bar that serves food, not a restaurant with a bar, so people tend to linger at the tables and make it harder to find / secure one. None the less, the manager (Bobby) assured us he would do everything he could to make it happen for us.
While waiting for the table, our party made camp at one of the long standing-level wall-side tables adjacent to the bar. These are great, since it provides somewhere to hang out when the bar is packed (which it usually is). Drinks were more than easy to order, seeing as they have a scrolling menu of the day's beer selections right up on flat screen TVs all around the joint. Why has no other bar thought of this?!?!
Knowing we were a large party waiting for a table, Bobby hooked us up with a waitress to keep up with our drink orders (instead of having to go to the bar every time) and to get us some apps while we waited. Â Appetizers: Fried Pickles (with amazingly tasty pickles, unruined by the fryer like many fried pickle dishes), Short Rib Empanadas (very interesting mix that works so well in so many different ways), and Bourbon BBQ Wings (these aren't your typical buffalo-wing-sized portions... these things came with the wing, the leg, the shoulder, and half the chicken! excellently flavored, contending with the best.) Â
At around 8:15 (only 15-minutes later than expected), Bobby and the staff were able to put some tables together for us in the back. Again, keep in mind, it's tough to set-aside tables for a group in a small bar, but they were able to make it happen. Great waiter and waitress service. Everyone is beyond polite, and they all have the best taste in music. Â (I had a bro moment with one waiter who was wearing a Parlor Mob t-shirt.) Â The bar itself also has an amazing soundtrack... all good rock / alternative, all the time. Not your cup of tea? Too bad, screw off.
Dinner time. My entire party was blown away by the food. Not one person was left anything to desire. Quotes of the night sounded like "This is the best steak sandwich I've ever had" and "This rivals southern BBQ sandwiches." Â Not kidding. I had "The Big Pig"... pulled pig in delectable sauce with amazingly composed house slaw and a fresh-as-hell brioshe bun. I also had a bite of my fiance's "Many Cheese Mac" which lives up to its name and becomes addicting after the first bite. Also tried the truffle fries, which could have been sprinkled with crack the way I was stealing them from my friend. Â All around, just great stuff.
Desert time: Â You only have two choices.... a Fried Snickers Bar with Bacon and Bourbon Glaze, or a Brownie with Bourbon Caramel and Homemade Whipped Cream. Â Not sure who would ever want anything else. Â Try them both, but stay for the fried snickers bar. Â It's almost too good... until you get a sugar rush and you realize that you just screwed up 3 weeks at the gym. Â Whatever, it was worth it. I REGRET NOTHING!!
So yes, they have great food, great beer, great liquor, a great location, great music, and a great ambiance. Â But what blew me away more than anything was the staff. Bobby (he's the manager, remember?) hooked us up and made sure we had a great time the entire night. Â You just can't be afraid to ask, talk, and be friendly. Â It goes a long way with great business managers and receiving great customer service, both of which the Station House has to offer. I will most definitely be returning soon. And I suggest you do the same.
I really wanted to like this place but the foods was just decent. Â We ordered some beers and got a nice table in the back. Â It was a little loud so we had to shout. Â
Things we tried:
Special of the day - Lobster roll for $12 with a fruit cup. Â Should've asked if it was real lobster, cuz it wasn't. Â It looked unappetizing and dry. Â The buttered roll was the best thing about it.
Beet and arugula salad with pan seared goat cheese. Â This was very good but there was some grit in it, not sure the greens were washed properly.
The wings: Â These were spicy and huge! Â About the same size as the ones from Dallas BBQ and they have the baby drumstick attached to them. Â The accompanying blue cheese was chunky and satisfying.
Beer battered fish & chips: Â the batter was so thick! Â I peeled it off and ate the fish which was dry and overlooked. Only the fries were good.
Poutine: Â They were good but needed more gravy!
The ribs: Â Generous and meaty but not falling off the bones tender or flavorful. Â The flavor was on the sauce which it was only coated in.
The prices were reasonable for the portion sizes we received. Â We ordered everything off the "sharing" section of the menu but they were definitely sized per person. I'm not sure I'd come here again, maybe just for beer and wings because everything else was just so so. Â Our server forgot about us once she gave us all our food so we didn't even get a second round of drinks.
The beer menu selection is extensive and it rotates on TV's mounted on the wall. Â We saw them updating the beers using Powerpoint. Â The rest of the TV's are for sports. Â High stools and high seating with dim lighting, a typical bar/gastropub atmosphere.
This is definitely a great addition to the neighborhood! Â The interior has a great vibe, the food is good, and the crowd is upscale (maybe the $10 glasses of wine weed out the riff-raff youngsters). Â My only complaint is that the acoustics are sooo bad -- you can't hear yourself talk it's so loud in this place!!
Definitely a great bar scene though....I would definitely say GO CHECK IT OUT!
Underwhelming.... Â The ambiance is great, once you get past the noisy 20 something's, nice blues and well laid out space. Â We ordered the meatballs which were basically fried and way undercooked, the Poutine is fries with gravy, and the fries with cheese and chorizo had non-existent so don't bother, just order plain fries. Â The burger was good though, and the manager comped us for the Poutine so that was nice. Â Service wasn't great, even when the waiter finally found their way to your table. Â Other items on the menu looked better, but if you go by looks, the food we ordered looked good.
Review Source:It took how many years for Forest Hills to get a hip, cool bar??? why did this take so long? Has it been attempted before and failed? There's a wine bar or two but nothing like this. Can we open two or three or four more of these type of places so I can stop hearing about Brooklyn, Astoria, Lower East Side.....and we can have a place of our own. - - - ok, stepping off the pedestal now.
Really great place. Just went for the first time recently and only drank some of the awesome beers they have. It was so nice to just hang at the bar, be attended to with a solid bartender and see some normal people, of all ages hanging out.
some of the other reviews have complained that it is too crowded......ummmmm.....open up a good, kinda hip restaurant/bar in Forest Hills, and see what happens. People come. Be patient, spots open up eventually to get a seat. Otherwise just get there on the early side.
Can't wait to go back and have some of the food. Looked really good and overhearing some of the comments the diners were very satisfied.
Finally a decent spot in Forest Hills to watch a game, drink a beer and eat good bar food. Â Excellent assortment of microbrews and mainstream breweries. Â The food was fantastic . . .the amount of $ you spend on the portion you get is ridiculous... of course the first time we over ordered. Â The service was top notch too.
All i can say is they execute everything well... good food, friendly staff, nice environment, quality liquor and good amount of big screen TVs.
Haven't eaten here yet, but been for beer twice. Â Maybe that's why it feels more like just a bar than a place to eat as well. Â However, I hear the food is good and reasonably priced for the area. Â Atmosphere and service are good. Â My only complaint is the ridiculous idea of putting the draft menu on a rotating tv screen only. Â Not only do I have to turn my head 180 degrees depending on where I'm sitting, but I have to wait for the screen to come back if I haven't finished it in 3 seconds. Â I think they thought they were being smart and only turned out to be "cute." Â Change that and your bar will be normal.
Review Source:Meet up with a friend at the Station House last night. Â The drinks were good. Â The service was very good. Â We sat at a table and didn't have any service issues like a few people said they did at the bar. Â I had the bacon cheese burger. Â Standard bar fare but it was very good. Â I tried the fried snickers for desert. Â It was ok. Â The batter it was fried in was soggy. Â Other than that we had a great time. Â It wasn't too noisy but not super quiet either. Â Based on my feedback my wife wants to check it out with me next time!
Review Source:The fact that this place makes proper poutine is in and of itself a reason for five stars. There are more, though!
First, the beer menu is thorough and properly populated with high and low percentage beers of all brewing varieties - no beer lover will be disappointed. Apparently it's a whiskey bar too, but I'm not a whiskey drinker so no comment.
The food - at least what I've had - is utterly superb bar food. I was there at midnight with my roommate eating the best representation of a proper poutine I've ever had in the US; real cheddar cheese curds and gravy that was clearly made from scratch over soft, perfectly cooked fries. And the chicken wings (I preferred the spicy, which weren't actually that spicy) were whole wings hacked off of a bird (they could've been turkey wings they were so big,) perfectly fried and perfectly flavored. They were revelatory! I've only left an hour ago and I'm already planning my next trip back for more food.
I found little to complain about regarding the service - it's a bar on a Saturday in New York city, so the fact that servers were even on regular patrols was a welome surprise. If I needed something, I politely but loudly grabbed someone and asked. Enough said.
This is officially my late night haunt from here on out, and it you dig a bar with great beer and great food you'll do well to check it out.
I really wanted to like this place. Went here on the recommendation of a friend who lives in the area. The place looked nice enough, but the tables had a weird shape--very long and skinny--so if you turned them one way, there's about four feet of space between you and the person sitting across, but the other way and they're only a foot and a half away from you. The  music was a little too loud and hard to have a conversation. The server who came to take our order was friendly and seemed to be knowledgeable about their beer selections. We ordered the short rib kimchi empanadas and the grilled sausage platter for appetizers, a steak sandwich and the Big Pig sandwich for entrees. Our drinks came out pretty quickly but we were waiting for our food. And waiting. And waiting.
Our food comes out, but all at the same time. Sorry, but appetizers are called that for a reason. I make the decision to eat the empanadas while they're still warm and hope my sandwich won't get too cold. Husband decides to just start on his steak sandwich right away and we would take the sausage platter to go. I guess we didn't look too happy because another person (I assume he was the manager or the owner) came over and asked how everything was going. Husband explained that we had wanted the appetizers to come out first, but maybe he didn't communicate that well enough. He clarified to the manager that he wasn't trying to get anyone in trouble, just giving feedback. The manager said he would comp the sausage platter, which we told him wasn't necessary.
The empanadas are very bland. I thought it would have some spice because of the kimchi, but there's nothing. There's a little bit of kick from the siracha mayo that was drizzled on top, but one empanada was lying on top of the other, so that one got most of the dressing. The Big Pig had a weird sour taste to it. I realized it was the cole slaw in the sandwich...the shredded cabbage had some kind of vinegar in it. Husband said his steak sandwich tasted sour too. Once he took the lettuce leaf out, it wasn't as bad, but the sour taste was already absorbed by the meat. I tried a piece from the sausage platter and it had a strange sweet/salty taste to it. I ended up spitting it out.
When we got the bill, the manager had comped the sausage plate after all.
Five stars for service, zero stars for food.
I went to dinner with my husband after having friends of ours rant and rave about this place. There was no seating at a table so we opted for the bar. Upon sitting at the bar we were greeted. We ask for menu's and Two Cokes just to wet our whistle until we figured out what we wanted. Â Little did I know that that was about the stent of the hospitality of the Bar-tending staff... After we browsed the menu and figured out what we wanted.. we placed the menu's in a pile and laid them on the bar.. The worldwide notification that we have chosen what we wanted and would like to order now.. So after sitting at the bar for 10 mins like this... watching two people walk back and forth and back and forth paying attention to everyone else around them.. I even got glances from the bar staff and got not even a, " are you ready to order" So by this time my husband was like, "I'm ready to leave and go elsewhere!" I said no no hold on, let me get their attention.. so another 5 mins go by and the same thing goes on.. even with me going Excuse me Sir, Sir I'd like to order now... nothing.. Finally, I had to Raise my voice a little more and go, "WE'd really like to order now!" Â Now, I have expressed my experience to a couple of people that go here and they said, "Oh you gotta sit at the tables its so much better!!!" but why? I've worked in bar and the thought was with any position that you serve people the way that you would want to be served.. A: with a smile B: Act Like you give a Damn C: that even with a bar full of people you still wait on EVERYONE!! not just your friends!!
Then when I went to go order a beer after figuring out what I wanted I again had to wave people down.. this experience just didn't sit well with me!
The Food
The Portions are awesome for the price.. So you get what you paid for and then some.
Many Cheese Mac $8 - We add'd bacon and it was Really Good!  I enjoyed the thickness of the bacon.. Next time I'd probably add in the jalapeños as well.
Forest Hills Garden Burger (falafel patty, baby greens, pickled veg, tzatziki) $9 - it was meeeehhhhhhh.. it seemed to me like a glorified breadcrumb burger... the pickled veg was awesome and I enjoyed that.. and Tzatski there was maybe a tsp of it on my sandwich which to me the whole reason for that sauce is to break up the dryness and there was hardly any of it on it. Â - All is all I would never order that again.
The Big Pig (pulled pig, house slaw, brioche bun) $9 - I'm from the south and that was just not a good pulled pork sandwich..  ( if you want a good pulled pork sandwich you gotta go to The Gibson when they have it  - now that is an amazing Pulled Pork sandwich ) -  I would never attempt to eat this again..
I might go back but If I do I will go and sit at a table.. This place left a lot to be desired.
I've been to Station House 3 times and am pissed that I have not gotten in there more frequently. Â This place is great; probably the best new place in Forest Hills since Danny Brown's opened. Â While I would not put it in the same category as Danny Brown's as far as food goes; but it is obvious that the owner and staff of the Station House have devoted the same level of expertise and care for their patron's as Danny and his staff. Â The Station House is a place we residents of Forest Hills can be proud of.
The Station House has a great vibe to it and a fantastic selection of beers and brown water! Â This is a great place to stop in for a quick pop on the way home. Â The food is simple, but very well thought out and expertly prepared. Â Best of all, the prices are reasonable. Â
The Station House is in a perfect location and hopefully with Mr. Vino across the street, will lead to a turn around of the Austin-Continental business district, which has been a blight on our town. Â
Thank you Station House for providing such a great place for Forest Hills residents to visit.
I left a tip a while back regarding my preference for receiving my appetizer before my entree (not at the same time), and I hear that this issue has been corrected at Station House. Â Here here! This is a cool place to drop in "for one" after work, or to come with a bunch of friends to catch "the local sports team." The staff is friendly and the chef(s) is/are creative. Â I also love the big ice cube (not cubes!) in the whiskey/scotch: nice touch! I'll definitely be back.
Review Source:Came back several times. Always busy. Good for FH, not good if you want a table :). Paolo is a great server and is always accommodating. Food is good. Service at bar is welcoming too. Â Joe is at the bar, manager too. Â Couldn't be more accomodating. Â Food and service are consistent. Â Great new place in FH.
Review Source:There are few bars in this part of Queens that are capable of being compared to the ones found in Brooklyn and Astoria.
They change their taps on a frequent basis and have a cask tap.
The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and well versed in beer (if you're not entirely sure what you're in the mood for- I've only been disappointed with my selection twice, mainly because it was chosen randomly.) Â
I'm a huge fan of bar food, and from what I've sampled it's stellar- The delicious deep fried pickle-wrapped-brisket-bites with mustard seemingly disappeared from the menu, but other than that they've kept up with the talk.
From what I've had (and I hope to add to the list,) the mac&cheese with bacon is fantastic and not overcooked, sweet potato fries with maple mayo dipping sauce (it's crack, I swear) and the charcuterie board are all winners.
This place is a perfect setting for getting off of work and having a nice refreshing beer, or meeting a close friend for some well deserved bites and good conversation.
Dear Staff,
Please take this as constructive criticism if you want to earn better tips and keep this place happening.
Case Study 1 with a Bartender:
A) When asking a guest to keep a tab open if guest says yes; you take their credit card and keep the tab open until guest is ready to close or bartender cuts guests off.
B) If guest says no. Therefore, guest gives you a form of payment IE., a credit card. At that point, you have swiped their CC, have you not? You placed it in front of the person...right...the bar occupancy is at about 10-15% of it's overall total capacity. That means, Miss. Bartender you don't go back and ask your guest to immediately rush to sign the tab. You've swiped the credit card (my authorization is in the P.O.S. system, and isn't going away, technically, you've collected my payment) let them sit and relax and perhaps when they are done with their drink they will change their mind and decide to have another.
Sometimes, guests do this...they order a drink and pay for it because they rather not wait around and wave the bartender down. It's because they rather have their tab ready for their own convenience. Also patrons will consider that this place is new and staff members need to get accustomed to getting their service flow together. (That's a nice way of saying that it's normal for staff to work at a slower pace than normal. It's perfectly normal.) Â Regardless, you have swiped the CC, so don't rush to get your tip and sign the receipt.
Dear Miss Barmaid, Â women bartender's often have a stereotype against women tipping badly, however, they need to do some reflection on how they treat woman. Treat woman guests how you like to be treated. Think about the last time you got served by a server/bartender and it was good service. Now try to learn a thing or too of what they did right and try to implement it when you are the server. Remember you never know who your serving. Women work in the industry too and may know a bit or two better than you.
This was my 3rd visit and first time sitting at the bar by myself. The first couple of visits my servers were females and they were superb; attentive, patient, hospitable and followed through the steps of service. I was blown away. I was with friends but I doubt that makes any difference. My third visit, the female barmaid, made a great recommendation on the selection of my drink. It would have been even nicer if it was strained over ice but any who, lacked all the rest that I had mentioned for the other two servers.
This spot has a great atmosphere and I enjoy the food and drink menu.
Please don't stereotype against women patrons because it is a whiskey drinking beverage place. That's all i'm asking.
Excellent bar! Â Love the energy, decor, selection of beer, whiskey (although I'm not a fan, the fact that its also a whiskey den is awesome). Â Haven't had the food yet, but from what I saw other people order everything looked great. Â They even have home made sweet potato fries - YES!!! Â The bartender was very friendly and welcoming, gave us lots of different beers to taste. Â Will be going back here many times :)
Review Source:I've had my fingers crossed that Forest Hills would slowly turn into a place that my husband can love right along with me, and the Station House definitely gives the neighborhood a huge step in the right direction. The beer selection is fantastic and I love the menu screens all around the restaurant (the manager even switched one on near us so we didn't have to crane our necks). So much better than attempting to read one chalkboard above the bar, yet not as obtrusive as it may sound. And their whiskey/bourbon/rye cocktail list (7 in all) made my mouth water. I will definitely be back to slowly make my way down that entire collection...
The menu is a very funky and delicious sounding collection of items. We were pretty hungry, so we picked 3 "starters" and a salad to share. Note to anyone thinking of doing this: "starters" was a definitely misnomer for some items!! The portions were very generous (particularly for the sausage plate) and we took home some leftovers because there was so much.
I am a sucker for a roasted beet salad and Station House will definitely be my go-to place for this hankering from now on. The kimchi empanadas that another reviewer raved about were awesome - particularly the spicy mayo sauce. The sausage plate had three different kinds of sausage (kielbasa, a bratwurst, and something else? totally guessing here...) and a really good whole grain mustard.
Last was the fried pickle & brisket balls. Okay, here's where we were a bit confused. The best part of fried pickles is that weird kind-of gross yet delicious warm garlicky vinegar taste. So when you list something as fried pickles... that's what you're anticipating. Instead, these were balls of shredded brisket with some pickles, in an almost fritter-like dough/batter. They were okay... but not what we were expecting at all.
Altogether, because of the $2 off drafts happy hour (12-7pm, wow!), the bill for 4 plates plus 2 beers was around $50 plus tip. Everything was delicious, service was great, and we came home with leftovers. Sounds like a win to me!
Tried this place for Happy Hour last week and we were impressed. Nice beer selection (on TV's so you can see it all over), great staff and bartenders. The renovation on the old space looks like a million bucks, so trendy! We had limited appetizers during the visit which were OK, but I won't judge yet and I'll be back for dinner soon and base my food judgement on that visit.
We are in such need of cool, hip, trendy restaurants and bars in Forest Hills. And more importantly places that serve great food! I shouldn't have to run to Manhattan, Astoria or downtown Brooklyn to get good food. This place has gotten off to a good foot in my book. Keep up the good work and please don't let the food slack, we know better, there are foodies all around FoHi!
WOW, went here for the first time last Friday and this place lived up to my expectations! I'll start by saying that Station House has a very excellent beer selection and I like how they have a screen behind the bar that shows you which beers they have on tap. I also like they have free wifi!
I didn't get a chance to try the food yet but I guarantee that I will at some point soon. Check the menu and it's got some yummy goodness.
The staff? Way friendly. The ones who run Station House did a very excellent job in choosing which staffers to bring on board.
The only drawbacks I'd give is the space - it can get a bit crowded but I did see the bar clear out once the games were over. Also, the bathroom situation could be better. It's one patron at a time, bathrooms aren't that big.
Forest Hills was lacking for years a new cool hip bar with great food, and so thankful for Station House!
Totally a fan of this new sports bar in the "Hills". Food is imaginative and very good and beer selection is ridiculous. Â We had the wings (giant) and the Burger which was one of the best I've had in a while. Â No bar like this in the area. It's gonna kick but and rightfully so. Â Finally, FH is coming around, bout time!
Review Source:Was here last night and we tried the food. We got a couple order of wings which were HUGE! You get the legs and the wings on the plate, and you get 5 of them. So essentially 10 wings. They were good but I had to take half of them home! The truffle fries were also delicious. Going to have to go back AGAIN! because we forgot to order the brownie dessert!
Review Source:Pretty awesome Hipster type place now in FoHi. great selection of whiskey and beers. Â Didn't try the food will soon. Â LOVED the decor very earthy, woody and the music was awesome come on if there is Johnny Cash being played and the crowd digged it then this joint with the crowd must be amazing.
Review Source:Came into this new spot with my friend the other night. Beer selection is really good and food was above average for a place like this. Our server, she was super cool and attentive; her Spanish accent was really cute that we asked to repeat the special of the day twice just to hear it again :). All in all, I will be back; glad to have this new spot in the area.
Review Source:I've been wishing for a hip hang out place in forest hills for along time and this is definitely very close to what i wanted. It feels warm, inviting, authentic, and comfortable. The wait staff was friendly, prompt, and enthusiastic! The food was really decent, and the portions were all reasonably large.
My only complaint is that their selection of mixed drinks is really limited. They don't carry grapefruit juice, so I couldn't order a greyhound, which in my opinion is just one of those basic bar drinks. But I know, I know, this is more of a beer place, which they had a plenty. My husband who is a beer drinker was very happy. It's more my issue that beer is not my thing.
But I'll definitely come back! I had just a great experience here! And I think other people do too since there was a nice lively crowd there. Oh! And I almost forgot to mention. The music was GREAT! Lots of indie rock which I happen to love.
I've been here a couple of times because of the good craft beer selection and whiskey (although the whiskey is a bit pricey). The food is good (try the fried meatballs, brisket, and wings) and they have a bunch of TV's to watch local sports.
The problem is with one of the wait staff. This lil girl has some nerve. She charged me for a shot she took with me! (which i didnt ask her to) AND charged me for the wrong number of drinks. Â I understand the number of beers because it can easily happen since it was so busy in there, but the shot is something I can't understand. Â Who does that!? Â I'll come back but definitely will be choosy about who waits on me or just go to the bar. The manager is a good guy though and I hope he can deal with this sooner than later.
Great edition to Forest Hills. Â Went here last Friday for Happy Hour and to watch the Knicks game. $5 craft draft beers was great during happy hour. Â The place is lively and was just fun watching the Knicks game with good TV coverage. Â The food was much more unique than your typical pub or bar fair and everything we had was very good and was fairly priced. Â I enjoyed eating things that were a little more unique and having the option of enjoying a good craft beer over your typical run of the mill bud, bluemoon or coors is always welcome. Â Steve (owner) and his staff seemed to be pretty on point for the packed Friday night and for opening less than a week. Â
For those who were disappointed because it was too loud maybe you should think twice before going into a bar with sports on the various screens. Â Jack and Nellies on Ascan would probably be more up your alley. Â Marking a place low for this reason is like me going to McDonalds and marking it low because it doesn't have fillet Mignon or going into a formal restaurant and marking it low because they have no TVs and I can't watch a game. Â Don't mark a place low for what it is. Â
Station House is a step above your typical bar that carries an awesome selection of craft beers and whiskeys and is a great place to watch a game. Â That's what it is and that's what it does well.
Enjoyable selection of unique eats at this bar. They have quite a number of delectable items. We tried the brisket with pickle fried balls, fried meatballs, empanadas with Korean short ribs, and the truffle fries. All items were delicious. Unfortunately they ran out of the special which was brisket with cheese and onions over ciabatta. But we were more than pleasantly satisfied with what we picked.
They have an entire page of beers and another short list of whiskey and other libations.
The reviewers r right in that its very loud so not a good first date place. More a great spot to grab a beer, much on some goodies, hang with friends and enjoy whatever u plan on doing later. U will enjoy the meal and libations here.
We are so excited to have a place like this in the neighborhood now and wow is it popular. ( for good reason) It combines all great aspects of a good hangout - good beer, good food, and knowledgeable but approachable servers. Atmosphere was lively without being deafening - the perfect balance. I love the decor - definitely a more modern/updated feel. Love that the front windows open up during nice weather! The beer list is very extensive, with a focus on local. It is really impressive - Â I would definitely match it up against any other great beer bar in the city. We tried the tacos as well - very good! Menu was a good size with great selections. Fair prices too.
And so there you have it - overnight, forest hills has a bar scene worth showing up for...not in a pretentious way and not in a frat party way.  In a good way, one  that this neighborhood has been craving for so long.
I live 2 blocks away and have been anticipating the opening of the Station House for some time. I was not disappointed at all. My girlfriend and I decided to go on a Thursday to avoid typical weekend bar crowding. It was a good choice. Noise level was just right, good tunes overhead, and a bartender fluent in 'beer geek' and fun to talk shop with. I'll be back for sure.
Review Source:Gene, I can actually speak for both Ian and myself as we are former business colleagues. The reason in which i am fully aware of the design and use of the shatterproof glass front entrance is because I work at an architectural firm. We did not have any sort of business contracts with Station House, but we are currently doing work in the Forest Hills area, thus making me well acquainted with its goings on. To be specific we are working on the Continental train station (E,F,M,etc). The station is being made fully ADA-accessible with the addition of three new elevators, one from street level to mezzanine, and two from mezzanine to platforms. Hopefully that is proof enough that I'm not associated business wise with the Station House establishment and that I am speaking only from the viewpoint of a happy customer.
The reason for which I responded in such a way to your first post (and I do appreciate the update with a higher rating) is because you don't kick someone when they're down. Although Station House seems to be doing quite well for itself, it is, in fact, a brand new business which barely got up on its feet. From the perspective of someone who only goes by ratings online they might not decide to take the trip to check the place out having seen such (unearned) negative reviews so suddenly. The bar just opened its doors and is probably still figuring out the most profitable times in which to keep their kitchen open.. you can't slander and judge a place for what it "will" be before its even had the chance to be what it is.
Perhaps this was just by some coincidence, but a bar (or any similar establishment) that has the largest area for people to gather located in the back, will want all of those people there to be seen from passersby. Would you go into the empty bar or the one that looks like it has something happening? Being that it is also a sports bar with all of its tvs, the higher seating allows patrons who wish to eat something to be able to watch the games as well. As for the bar seating, they certainly aren't the most comfortable I've sat on, but I do actually like the bench seat for two.. never know, could be a good opening to talking to a woman when it's the "only other option." to sit at haha. Also, serving $4 wild turkey shots will certainly attract the wrong crowd.
Now I have no idea how old you are, nor am I claiming to assume you older or younger.. but what many people aren't noticing is the growing amount of younger people in the community. Forest Hills is certainly sophisticated... its old money.. but young people. Although, trust me, I enjoy the finer things in life..I'm a young guy and I don't always want to have to sit in a "Whiskey Room" lounge type boring atmosphere to have a good glass of scotch. A young guy with a mature palate is becoming something quite common now. I'm assuming you'd be surprised if you were to find out the new gourmet deli Cucina had its beer list, which totals 105, created by a few guys in their early 20's (don't be, because it was haha). It's for this reason I think the bar is what Forest Hills needs. Station House packs a cool crowd, music I'm a huge fan of, great beer and excellent whiskey all into one.
Also, apologies for the b**ch bar comment. - Was having a bad day haha.
Nice place. Â We sat in the back and drinks and burgers. Â The short rib burger was delicious but really under cooked. Fortunately or unfortunately depending how you see it, the beer was so strong that I didn't really care. Â I'm looking forward to going when the front doors are open. Â So far I'm happy they came to the neighborhood.
Review Source:I live a 10 minute walk away from Austin Street and the neighborhood has needed a place like this for a while. Great craft beer selection with what seems to be a focus on NY breweries, which I can appreciate.
The menu is definitely unique, and nothing like anything else Austin St. Favorites so far are the Picked Pepper Wings and the Sweet Potato Fries that come with some kind of maple syrup dipping sauce. I also really enjoyed the fried pickle and brisket croquet.
Service is super friendly, but would love a beer/liquor nerd to talk me through the choices.
Great addition to the neighborhood.
Great place for the summer, the whole front of the bar opens up, great for people watching, or to be seen !
This place really got it together, opening before the Flying Pig Gastropub (where Johnny Rockets used to be).
The staff here is hit or miss. One girl was very aloof, she seemed spacey (but nice!), one guy took our drink order and came back 15 min later (with only 2 other tables in the bar) yet another guy was sooo attentive and polite. So Hit or Miss.
We were there for 3+ hrs just drinking, eating and chit chatting. Station House takes you away from Queens. Being inside, you really don't feel like you are in queens anymore. It's just so new for Forest Hills, a bar like this. Hip, low key, great atmosphere.
I'm surprised that the Owner didn't walk around just to get to know Patrons. It was a Monday night, slow - perfect time to get to know people.

FOOD
TRY:
Kimchi Empanada's - Wow, these are REALLY GOOD. I want to eat 3 orders of these myself!
Truffle Parmesean Fries - Can't go wrong with these!
PASS:
Ribs Thin Slabs, overcooked. Would prefer 4 fat juicy ribs over 8-10 thin overcooked bones.
Beer Battered Meatballs - Overseasoned, Salty. Tasted like frozen meatballs.
Poutin - These were good but perhaps there was too much gravy. The fries were swimming in it. And the "curds" were more like Mozzarella cheese.

The menu is awesome! Totally different than the usual fare on Austin St.
Can't wait to come back. Even against the Flying Pig, I feel like Station House is cozier, more intimate. Love it!
