We've been to Stonewood in the past; the one in the Ormond Beach/Daytona Beach area is always packed. Â We were pleased that there wasn't a wait on a Friday night at the Winter Springs locale. Â We didn't know about happy hour, but supposedly that runs til 7pm and offers some drink and appetizer specials. Â We started off with the bruschetta appetizer, and my husband had a chicken pasta dish and I had the sirloin steak. Â All was VERY tasty and well cooked. Â
It is pretty run of the mill for a chain restaurant experience, but the manager - a man with a British accent who resembled Mr. Bean a little bit - came by to chat with us a couple times. Â He was so warm and welcoming, it was a nice touch! Â We had no trouble with the servers and they were prompt and efficient. Â We'll definately be back when the craving hits.
Had a great time dining here on a Saturday night. The place was packed! We had a 15 minute wait, but were able to snag a couple bar stools at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. He must get some locals, because he had a great rapport with some customers, which is always great to see.
If you sit at the bar or in the bar side, there is a menu that has several great appetizers for under $7 til 7pm as well as many drink specials. There were about 4 or 5 beers on tap- Sam Adams seasonal, an IPA, Shock Top and your basic run of the mill beers.
We ended up at a booth on the bar side and it was great. Although in the bar, it was actually quieter and a little more private then the open seating on the restaurant side.
Our waitress was sweet and very attentive. She kept up with our drinks and brought out bread while we waited. OMG, the bread. The pretzel stick would have been worth fighting over, it was so good! Cranberry bread was delicious too! I love when various breads are brought out for some reason; it gives a little extra oomph to the meal.
Both us orders the sirloins. Delicious and cooked perfectly. And I mean perfect-medium rare! Our sides were excellent as well as the vegetable medley that accompanied each meal. I would definitely come back here again.
Only dislike-if you have to wait for a table and can't grab a seat at the bar, there is no where to stand or sit. The entry way is fairly small. The design should have definitely incorporated a wider entry with some built in bench seats or something. It's an awkward space.
The service is friendly and the food is good. It's a chain restaurant but it has a nice local feel. I've been to this location several times and never had a bad experience.
One bad thing I can say about the place is that they're not open for lunch, which can be a bummer sometimes. Other than that they seem to have everything right.
Typically wouldn't expect to have such a nice dinner at a chain restaurant, but this is one exception. The food is unbelievably great! Steaks are cooked and seasoned perfectly, but I particularly like the pot roast. Highly recommend having one of their martinis as well!
Service was alright the first time as the server was being trained by another. Second time dining here was great service! Atmosphere is nice and cozy.
Strongly recommend!
This was my second time eating here and my experience did not improve. The service was not good (not horrible...just not good). The waitress took forever to get us anything and kept forgetting items. We did not get our waters, she didn't bring me the extra tomatoes, brought a glass of wine instead of the bottle we asked, etc.
The food was meh! My first time I had ordered the pork chops and I remember them being overdone. This time I had the hamburger and I ordered medium. That thing was full, over cooked. I had ordered for extra lettuce and tomato (because I don't eat the bun) and they barely put one of each (hence, the reason why I asked for extra tomatoes). The manager came and offered us a free desert. Well, it took the waitress 10 minutes to bring us the dessert menu...I mean really? Your manager just came to our table because the service and food was not great and you are going to take 10 minutes to bring us a menu?
Definitely not worth it and what makes it worst is that this is an expensive restaurant. Most main dishes are above $20...you could at least make sure you get decent service. Not going back.
Yes, Stonewood is a chain restaurant, but it's not like a McDonald that are everywhere and I don't believe that food quality and service are sacrificed. Some of the food can be considered pricey but it is good. Recently though it seems the selection has become more limited. However, the staff is friendly and accommodating ... and the service speed can't be complained about. The bar is also a little on the small side is a nice place to hang out and grab a drink. If you have a sweet tooth ... try the chocolate bread pudding!
Review Source:If you want a $35 steak, go to Del Frisco's or Ruth's Chris. Â Stonewood has very good seafood but just don't do the steak. Â They also offer a delicious rack of lamb, but it's more expensive (and about the same quality) as Outback right across the way.
The ambiance is nice for a date night or up-scale happy hour. Â They have a good wine list and don't just serve cheap garbage wines, but just be prepared for the cost. Â They have a full bar but a limited beer selection. Â
It's nice to have another nice date-night place in Winter Springs, since Outback and Carraba's tend to go on wait lists on the weekends.
I've been to a couple of Stonewoods, but this one seemed above average than the norms. I typically don't frequent chain restaurants, but Stonewood is one that I will not cringe at right away when someone suggests to go there. It's dark and ambient and servers are usually pretty nice. It's a good place for a date or to grab drinks.
We went and all ordered steaks; they were all seasoned beautifully, but the temperature varied for all of our steaks. My boyfriend ordered medium and received rare! We're not choosy with undercooking but god forbid if you overcook my steak.
The bread was fantastic: pretzel bread brushed with butter, rosemary cheddar bread, white bread... yum!
One stand out was the Black Sage cocktail. I'm not a gin drinker, but this converted me! The cocktail had gin, Chambord, blackberries, and sage served in an old-fashioned glass. Very lovely combination and on the sweet side.
I couldn't give this place less than a 5 star rating simply because the service I've received during both of my visits has been extraordinary! Truly, every employee that I came into contact with (the wonderful hostess, servers, buss boy, assistant manager, manager, and bartender) was delightful and courteous, not to mention attractive in his or her own rite. ;-)
The first time I dined here, it was with my partner and friends for late night dessert and cocktails. The chocolate bread pudding, which should be a crime to pass up, was divine! Each cocktail was also made with precision and top-shelf spirits. The assistant manager, Ashley, was a doll and truly made our experience both memorable and magical. She was wearing multiple hats (bartending, hosting, etc.) that evening and truly made all of us feel welcome and catered to. Our server, Mary, was also fantastic.
On my next visit, I was actually able to taste the delicious food. The flavors of the calamari mixed with the dipping sauce were fantastic (and please don't mistake the arugula for garnish; it pairs fantastically with the calamari). My partner had the filet mignon with Mediterranean topping (highly recommend) and couldn't stop raving about it. I had the lamb chops.
I am not a fan of mint in my food, and I took a risk with the chops, which had a mint glaze. I didn't enjoy it, BUT, like I said, that's simply because I'm not a fan of mint. Everything was prepared perfectly, and the cocktails were mixed beautifully. I had the classic Side Car (prepared better than any other restaurant where I've ordered it before), and my partner chose a top-shelf Long Island as his drink for the night.
I truly can't put into words how great this StoneWood location is. The staff makes it special. And for a chain restaurant, the food is very good, offering many selections that are so yummy. I can't wait to return to try something new.
Enjoy!
Every year my family and I visit here during the time I'm home for Christmas. Â After 5 visits, I look forward to my next opportunity to dine there. Â It's just down the street from them so they go more often, but I only get to go once a year.
We started with the Bleu Cheese chips and balsamic reduction. Â It's too big for two people but wow what flavors. Â A bit of a salt bomb, but it's clear that's what you're getting when you sign on. Â You can't put them down.
My main was the grilled garlic and rosemary lamb chops with red wine demiglace sauce. Â Yum... this is what put this place on my radar and keeps it there. Â Got it mid-rare and it was squishy and pink.
Although they are changing their menu (which is a good thing for a restaurant), we will be back in 2012 for sure...
I'm impressed that a restaurant such as this with multiple locations can consistently cook a steak so beautifully, regardless of which one you visit. The filet mignon that I've had here and at the Stonewood in Dr. Phillips are up there among the most perfectly cooked that I've ever had.
You know when you first cut into an exquisite medium rare filet with a steak knife and it's so perfectly tender inside that you can practically cut all the way through it with one single draw of the knife, and you have that little moment of anticipation and all you can think is "oooh." ? Â Well, maybe it's just me. But that happens here.
The bread that they bring to the table is fantastic, although they need to bring more of it out. Mashed potatoes are delicious, and I opted for button mushrooms instead of the mixed veggies this time. Â They tasted great but I couldn't eat them all.
I'd suggest reservations on the busy nights. Even with a reservation for a Saturday evening, we still had a 15 minute wait before a table opened up.
I went here about 6 months ago because it's so close to my house and because of the good yelp reviews. I don't get what the hype was.
The enviornment and atmosphere is beautiful, but the food is not. As my previous reviews state, I am a seafood fanatic, but don't usually order seafood at places because no one knows how to cook it, but boy was I craving some mahi-mahi....so I ordered...and boy was it overcooked.
mmmm...Dry, tasty cardboard. What a let down. I don't recall what my parents had, but they weren't too pleased either with their selection.
My Ice tea was good, the sides were okay, the service was acceptable, but for the price and overcooked fish, I haven't made any plans or attempts to go back there.
On a Thursday night wanted to go out to eat and had passed the place a couple of times so I thought we would try. Walked in and immediately was concerned I was under dressed, place looks kind of fancy. Pleasantly greeted by the hostess and seated at my table, a very friendly and warm environment.
Our waitress arrived who was very pleasant and advised it was $5 Mojito night .. the first was almost done and she passed by looking to see if I needed another. OK, they don't allow empty glasses here, nice.
The Pot Roast was tender and very tasty .. comfort food at its finest with medium textured (not hard but also not soft and mushy) vegetables and tasty mashed potatoes. I had the burger which was very good and juicy.
For dessert the chocolate bread pudding, Rich and delicious but not for right before you go to bed. The Espresso Martini at the end made for a very enjoyable experience.
Great service, great food, and 3 cocktails all for a total under $ 60.
I'll be back and would recommend.
My wife had eaten here before so I knew it would be good. she had the lamb chops before and really wanted those again, but went for blackened grouper w/ Mediterranean topping, which she loved. I had the herb encrusted grouper w/ balsamic reduction which was pretty darn good to. My asparagus was a little too soft but not really much to complain about their. My father in law had a beautiful cooked med-rare NY strip that I could tell he really enjoyed. Good food, good service, i would recommend this place.
Review Source:We went here looking it other peoples reviews, my husband wanted to eat lamb chops. Their lamb was pretty good. The service was wonderful, we got there before seven so it was happy hour on their house wines.
They have a pretty good house vinaigrette. Â The crowd is alot older though, and I liked the atmosphere very intimate.
The vegetables though were a bit soggy....other than that I will definitely go back.
Our family enjoys Stonewood, this is a nice location. Â Service is great, they are open for lunch, nice bar, great food. Â Happy Hour rotates based on the day of the week, Martini night is a great deal.
Husband loves the lamb chops here, the fillet and strip steak. I've enjoyed the herb encrusted grouper and several other seafood dishes. Â We both love the mashed potatoes and sub them out for rice with no problems. All food and appetizers have been great. Nice wine list.
VERY nice that they are open for Christmas Eve, this has become out go-to place for dinner. Reservations are taken. :)
Family & I are big fans of Stonewood. Great food & drinks fair prices and GREAT service. We always get the Bruschetta which is very good with their signature savoury topping. We have always had good to excellent food at this location and the Dr. Phillips location. Love the pot roast, pork chops, filet and any of the chicken dishes. Wife had received a gift card a few years ago and had never heard of Stonewood. When we found this one in our neighborhood we were pleasantly surprised. Now we go on a regular basis. One of our favorites. The only disappointment is they are only open for dinner.
Review Source:Stonewood in Winter Springs is really good. Â On Tuesday nights they have Martini Night and the wife and I love those.
The food is very good. Â I have had the Fillet there and it was awesome. Â I highly recommend getting the steaks done Oscar style. Â One one occassion, i had the mahi with a lemon sauce that was simply incredible.
On the other hand, their wings are great too! Â We ordered the appetizer and they were done well; not overcooked like some places. Â They have these blue cheese chips that are incredible as well. Â They come with crumbled blue cheese on them and have a vinegrette dressing lightly drizzled on top.
Highly recommended and not that pricey considering the quality.
I visited Stonewood Grill & Tavern in the Tuskawilla area of Winter Springs last night as part of a family outing for my Dad's birthday. We have been to Stonewood a number of times, mostly because my Dad enjoys it, so I figured I would finally write a review.
Stonewood is a small chain of upscale American style dining restaurants located almost entirely in Florida. My understanding of the concept is that they are trying to set their establishment apart from places like Friday's and Applebee's by using a more formal styling inside of the restaurant and adding some "arty flare" to their food display. I have never been that impressed with the place, the prices are in line with the class of the restaurant, but the quality hasn't been the able to match that level. It is kind of like putting a dress on a pig, they fancy up the presentation of the food, but the ingredients are still very basic.
As some of you may already know, I am attempting to go on a small, minor diet for the first time ever in my life in an effort to pull my "muffin top" back inside of my waist line just a little bit. Instead of eating enough food for dinner each night to feed an entire third world country, I have been trying to have salad for dinner. With this in mind I decided on the Asian Chicken Salad which is described as "crispy wontons layered with chilled sesame noodles and topped with a blend of grilled, sliced chicken breast, fresh mixed greens and sesame ginger dressing, finished with Asian slaw and tangy ginger lime sauce." The wife told me I should have the dressing on the side instead of covering the salad in watery mix comparable to when the floods came through Orlando during Hurricane Fay last year. The presentation of the salad as very nice, from the top down to was the Asian slaw, giant wonton chip, mixed greens with chicken breast slices, another giant wonton chip, more mixed greens and the sesame noodles. It was one of those plates that when you deliver it you feel like you need some sort of building permit to demolish it because the food is stacked so precariously. For the first time in my many trips to Stonewood, I was actually impressed with the flavor and quality of the ingredients. The chicken was lightly grilled and tasted delicious when mixed with the Asian slaw and dipped in just a little of the sesame ginger dressing. Having the sesame noodles chilled and on the bottom of the "tower 'o salad" added a nice change in texture from the warm chicken and the rest of the greens. At 12 dollars, I thought the Asian Chicken Salad was an excellent value; I actually didn't finish the whole thing, mainly because my "muffin top" was telling me to stop. A quick check of the rest of the table actually found everyone was pretty satisfied with their meals. My dad (a.k.a. the birthday boy) has the oak grilled pork chops, which were undercooked to the point of being cold last time we were here, but this time they were cooked thoroughly and he said they tasted great. I was also impressed with our waitress who was able to re-seat us once the wife, baby, and I arrived because we needed more space for the little one even though my folks had already sat and had drinks. They did a nice little desert for dad, but the restaurant was stuck with my version of "Happy Birthday" instead of a well rehearsed a cappella version by the restaurant staff.
I would say that this trip to Stonewood actually changed my opinion of the restaurant and I would consider coming back, which will probably be in a year, again on my Dad's birthday. Not a place I would visit on a regular basis mainly due to the menu and cost, but it is good for special occasions and I would think its location in the Tuskawilla area should keep the wealthy customers visiting.
When I lived in the Orlando area, this was my favorite dinner place when I wanted a very tasty meal and a bottle or two of wine with great company. The service was always great as was the food, my favorite was the salmon. I think of this as an upscale steakhouse, but with many options for varied tastes. The restaurant has a romantic, intimate feel where you can relax and unwind from a busy week. The food is amazing; I miss this place!
