Subway of Longmeadow

The mainstay Subway customer is desperately hungry, and really in a hurry. When time is short and the tummy craves food resembling health, the go-to Subway chain will do just fine.

As for THIS particular location, you'll find the nutritious-type deli sandwiches, (turkey-based turkey, turkey-based ham) , and it'll curb your hunger. The staff is physically there, though they don't want to be. They also work really fast, but not out of stellar performance. Rather honestly they bemoan customers and are just DYING to get you out of there so they can go into the back room and continue their gossiping.

Their diligent working speed allows for long lines of customers to be served within a reasonable amount of time, which is good, considering most of us are in a hurry, clearly this works in Subway's favor.

Speed and nutrition aside, I refuse to write anything gleamingly awesome about this particular Subway. As apposed to the Enfield Location, (next to the Iron Chef), my experience has always been short of satisfactory - and it boils down to these two major issues:

1) Lack of wearing CLEAN latex gloves while touching food.
2) Messy, disrespectable sandwich construction.

All Subway sandwich recipes are the same, regardless of which chain you visit. I was under the impression that a Subway employee is required to change their latex gloves after every customer. This ensures cleanliness and alleviates the customers fear of food born illness. A lot of food poisoning comes from laziness on the food preparer's part. Failure to change your gloves means you could be transferring whatever you touch to the customers food. If after handling garbage at the can or money at the cash register, you immediately go touching food - then we have an issue and some people could be getting sick.

I've witnessed employee's at this location NOT change their gloves - and have seen quite dirty gloves on hands while building sandwiches. At times I've not cared too much, but lately I've decided enough is enough. I'm not going to shovel garbage into my body. I'm not going to risk it.

Truthfully, it's disconcerting and uncomfortable. Watching Subway employee's dive into vats of slivered meats, carefully counting the exact number of slices, without first putting a fresh pair of latex gloves on isn't appetizing. Especially after witnessing them handing money or picking up trash from the floor. Ugh.

Please - start changing your gloves!

The second issue is this locations's employee's attitude towards building the sandwich and frankly being an employee.  More often then not, I'll leave this Subway thinking, "Was it something I said?" They're always unhappy to see a customer walk through the door, resulting in Messy, grubby ingredients being haphazardly mushed together into something resembling a sandwich.

It's not the speed that is bothersome, but rather the uncaring haste. Grabbing, throwing, slathering, picking.

You are handling my lunch! Can there be a bit of integrity and tactful follow-through? Employee's who literally pick up a wad of tuna and toss it on the bread - which happens to be stale - shouldn't be surprised if the next time I'm victim to such an environment, I'll just walk away from the counter and leave Subway without purchasing the sandwich.

Frankly, Quiznos can have my dollar - if you don't send me a smile and let me know that you are psychologically OK with making my lunch right now..because honestly, I don't want to put you out.

The food here is as good as any Subway, and the place is pretty clean, but the service is really lacking.  I think the employees are required to wear wool undies.  They're just... cranky.  And, I've been several times.

I was getting a sandwich made the last time I was there and a family came in and the guy groaned pretty loudly.

I'm not saying I'm expecting a song and dance, but I've been in other Subways where the employees are fairly cheerful and nice.

Probably the best cheap sandwich option in Longmeadow, now that the Community Market has been turned into a bank.  Sure, you can go to Panera over in Enfield or East Longmeadow.  Or you could go to that bread place that's in the Longmeadow Shops.  But Subway, well Subway's got your consistent subs.  

I do remember the lines getting a little long at some points, but other than that, it's not too bad of a location, right on the Shaker Rd version of the MA/CT border (as opposed to the other two road entries into CT).
