Two words: Happy Hour
From 5-7P, everything on the food menu is $3 and drinks are on a sliding scale. My friend and I went last night, and were pleasantly suprised by both the drinks and the food. We ordered nearly everything on the menu: ceviche, guacamole, plaintain chips, fish tacos, and the chicken tinga taco. The ceviche was delicious, well seasonsed, and delicious. The guacalmole was amazing with chunks of avocado. The plaintain chips came with a ranch avocado dip that my friend loved, but that I wasn't crazy about. The bbq sauce it came with made the plantains taste just like BBQ chips. I took advantage of the plaintains to eat them with my ceviche and guac. So tasty. My friend said her chicken tinga taco was okay, but not amazing. The fish taco was very tasty with the fish being well cooked. Our one comment was that while the tacos were very tasty, they weren't Torchy's Tacos.
The drinks were good, and while we did the Brazilian verison of a margarita (It starts with a "C"), I REALLY liked the Sunset Tiki-tini. It was a lovely blue color (until I stirred it. Then it was South Padre colored. Haha.), and it tasted delicious!
The decor reminds me of upscale South Florida, which I absolutely loved. It was very open, sunshiney, friendly. I wouldn't mind hanging out there for hours on the patio or the glassed in area, either. Our server was very, very friendly, understood the drink and food menus well, and provided us with excellent service.
I HIGHLY recommend this place!
I was actually a little disappointed with the drink presentation since the whole point of these drinks is to be THEMED. I was really in the mood for a silly fruity drink with some fruit/little umbrella craziness, but my bahama mama came to me with a simple thin little black straw. Sadface. It was tasty but then I just switched to wine. (And yeah, I just couldn't bring myself to be the asshole who's all WHERE'S MY LITTLE UMBRELLA?!)
On the flip side, the bartender was super attentive and seemed conscientious about doing a good job, so I think perhaps he was new. (Because the presentation was lacking on the drink, not because he was concerned about doing a good job! ;)
I also got to try the plantain chips, which come with two yummy dipping sauces. Very solid munchies.
I'd probably come here again if friends went, but there's not really enough of a reason to venture here on my own again...? Maybe for happy hour...the Yelp family seems to be mega fans of the happy hour!
