I came here once....experience was so awesome I decided to throw my birthday here subsequently after.
First of all...I don't really like sushi but the sushi and the experience here is freaking awesome! Second to none! I do caution that this is more of a young person eating place. If you are like 40 and looking for some sushi...probably not the place for you...unless you still drink and party hard at 40
Let's start off...if you come for a weekend dinner...90% of the time you are going to have parties duke it out over who can sake bomb the loudest and fastest. I understand this isn't for some people(whether you are older or hate noise or whatever) but I think that the interactive-ness of the restaurant makes it a great dining experience!!!
I went with large parties both times so when we did the all you can eat and drink sushi/sake the chef (forgot his name but the dude is awesome) makes sushi in a certain order for you. You don't need to order. That being said one of the most stand out rolls is the armitage roll. I believe it is a crab roll with tuna lumps on top and covered with a bit of sesame oil and scallion. SO FREAKING GOOD. YOU MUST GET IT.
I love the fact that my waiter also did sake bombs with us and one time I went...I think it was the time on my birthday...They did a sake bomb contest between 4 parties (mine included) and the fastest sake bomber got a free sushi o sushi shirt. Fun!
Oh they also gave me free birthday dessert that was decorated with "Happy Birthday Harry"
Sushi is good overall, Armitage roll is awesome. Â It's a simple and inexpensive place. Everyone on the staff is incredibly friendly and cares about you enjoying yourself. Â They host a Sake Bomb Party for larger groups and on most Friday/Saturday nights. Â The prize is a t-shirt and your picture on the wall. Â You might not care about that right now while reading this review but after going there, you will. Â Come hell or high water, I'm going to win that t-shirt.
Review Source:Okay so this was the most random, last minute experience of my life. I'm a planner so coming here was not expected. We had dessert only reservations at Geja's next door around 10:00pm on a Friday night but came in around 9:15 and I was hungry for some sushi, and long behold, here's little hole in the wall with red walls, Sushi O Sushi conveniently located next to Geja's. I ran in there and decided to do a carryout order of some spicy salmon rolls (my fave).
When I came in I was surprised by what I saw, and from other reviews I can see this is a typical occurrence here.
1. two large parties of my age peeps (mid 20's) screaming, shouting, have a freaking ball!
2. Taking sake shots like no other while platters of sushi was being passed out.
How come I wasn't invited to the party? Okay, so it may be a little too chaotic for me to actually go and enjoy a sushi dinner w/ some friends, but hey, if you are feeling wild and crazy and want sushi, than this is the place to be. Definitely not a place to take out your grandmother. The sue chef was very fast with my order and he told me to come back next time for a full "experience." I said that I will consider it. The sushi was actually very good, fresh, full of salmon chunks, good rice to fish ratio, very tasty. I swallowed those pieces like no tomorrow. So overall, fun vibe, very casual, very loud and good sushi. And the service seemed to be pretty good as the kids all looked happy, or maybe that was all the sake.
Best sushi I have ever had! I have been there no less than 100 times and everytime it amazes me how good all the rolls (essecially the Arimatige and Love Sake). Andy and Judy (the owners) are quite possibly the nicest people on the planet! I moved away from Chicago about a year ago and can't wait to go in around NY for a sake party!
Review Source:I tried to have a gathering here last year but it was book. A year later I was able to gather some of my favorite people together to head to Sushi O Sushi and I am so happy I did. This place is great. Are you going to be surrounded by 20 somethings getting wasted screaming chants? Yes probably and it will be OK because as much as you try you will be drawn into the fun light heartened nature of this place. The servers are here to make sure you have a good night and they succeed.
Also the food is good. Every roll we had was fresh and well prepared. They took the time to accommodate dietary as well. My favorite is the Armitage roll which is fresh tuna mixed with secret sauce. The sauce was spicy but not overwhelming and overall delicious. I will be going back to this place for sure.
My friends and I have a tradition of coming here at least three times a year for the sushi party. Basically, you get unlimited sushi, Sake, and beer for $45.
The sushi is well worth the money. I have been to countless sushi places, and I have yet to have had anything as amazing as the sushi at this restaurant.
The sake and beer is just a bonus.
Sure, if you're in your 20s and want to get blitzed on sake, you can't do better.
For the rest of us, this place is okay. Â The owner/chef is unbelievably friendly. Â The sushi ranges from good to great; the Armitage roll was definitely the best item we had all night. Â Spider roll was heavily fried. Â The sweet potato was similar. Â Rainbow roll was great. Â We sat at the sushi bar and I think we got everything we ordered within 15 or 20 minutes.
It's a small place and it gets extremely loud with the sake bomb chants, but it's all in good fun. Â The chef gave my wife and I some free ice cream as an apology for the noise; it was quite a nice gesture, and the ice cream was delicious.
If you are:
a) college student
b) a bro
c) like to black out
d) between the ages of 21-26
e) all of the above
Sushi o Sushi IS for YOU!
The deal with this place is that if you get 10 people together it's $45 all you can drink sake bombs and a prix fixe menu of sushi chosen by the restaurant (and of course edamame). It is not all you can eat. And I guarantee you will end up only leaving full of sake.
The experience: Beer exploding all over the table, your clothes and your food. People shouting drunken rants of "pour some sake on me, in the name of bombs!!" A crazy sushi chef. Sake bomb competitions. The "classy" wine list consists of Yellow Tail & Mirassou. $60/person (with tip & tax).
Although I Â may have liked this place in college, I'm now in my late 20s and spending $60 bucks to get drunk off sake bombs has lost its luster and sounds a bit over priced to me (I was invited here for a friend's bday dinner not knowing what to expect). I'd rather BOYB it and order what I want minus getting beer "bombed" all over me and leaving "bombed". And if I'm spending $60 bucks on dinner there better be a steak in front of me and Yellow Tail better not be on the menu....
OK, many folks have given this place 4-5 stars, but after coming here I see why. Â It's college town and you have college kids or young adults who like to drink and eat rolls. Â I do say that the chef was super nice and gave me really nice portions (maybe because I ate at the bar), but its super loud, lots of drinking in the later part of the evening, really dark and on the smaller side. Â However, they have a full bar and open late so it worked for me.
Review Source:I like this place! Â Great cocktails, decent service, and creative maki rolls. Â I came here with a group and one of them doesn't eat sushi. Â He had some soup and rangoons. Â We really enjoyed the rolls that we tasted. Â We were presented the all-you-can-eat deal for 10. Â I'd love to get 10 sushi lovin' friends together to come here! Â I would definitely eat here before any show at the Park West.
Review Source:Love this place!
Came in last night for a friend's birthday party and did the all you can eat sushi and sake bomb deal. I was hesitant to eat the sushi (how good can all you can eat sushi be?), but it was amazing. The Armitage Roll was my favorite...poke tuna with sesame oil...delicious. Our server, Grace, was hilarious and sweet as she lead us through lots of fun sake chants.
The sushi and sake bombs keep coming non stop for 2 hours and for $45, you can't beat it.
The place is tiny, but if you don't mind sitting on your neighbor's lap, you'll be fine. There were 3 parties including ours and the entire restaurant was filled. It does feel really cozy and friendly, though, with everyone screaming and chugging beer in unison.
Wouldn't recommend coming here alone or with a date when the sake bomb parties are going on.
I went to Sushi O Sushi for all you can eat sushi and sake bombing. Â I was with a very large group, and we occupied the entire place (it's tiny). Â We had a great time! The staff is hilarious. Â They lead you in really creative sake chants before you smack the table and chug away. Â They keep the beers and sake coming the entire time. Â Your dinner starts with edamame. Â We also had the Armitage roll which is topped with tomato/cilantro salsa, spicy tuna, crispy eel-- all of the rolls were delicious! Â My only complaint is that the staff is really focused on keeping the drinks coming and less focused on keeping the rolls coming. Â All you have to do is ask but with my large group I felt like we didn't get a ton of food.
The all you can eat drink deal is $45/person, minimum of 10 people in a group, and it lasts for 2 hours. Â I highly recommend you gather your friends and check it out!
I've been wanting to come here for a while now. My cousin also saw this while driving by one time and wanted to try it. My sister, cousin and I just had our early Christmas dinner here tonight. This is the one place, or one of few places where the food AND service lived up the excellent positive reviews.
The owner/chef and staff was nice, helpful, friendly, but not overbearing or suffocating. The chef greets everyone that comes in, and even talks with each table. Towards the end of the night after we paid, he came to our table and started talking to us and was so enthusiastic. We asked to take a picture with him, and he immediate was so excited and sat right next to me, kind of pushing me over lol.
I'm a vegetarian, and this place has a fairly good selection of veggie rolls, Aside from the typical ACC, the tofu roll and the sweet potato roll were delicious. The Popeye (spinach), and the shitake roll were also excellent. I'm usually picky about the shiktake rolls too. They do not pack the rolls with rice, and instead of the actual food.
This is definitely my new sushi spot!!!
I have no complaints! Even when we left, the hostess had the doors opened for us.
Sushi O Sushi had some of the most personable service I've experienced in a long time. The guy who makes the Sushi is full of energy and he gave us a couple sushi rolls and ice cream free.
The sushi was fantastic, especially the Armitage Roll and the Playboy Roll. Great Service, Great Sushi.
There isn't a lot of seating and the location on Armitage is easy to miss and is on the "garden" level (basement) of the building.
I recently came here to celebrate my birthday with the all you can eat and drink sushi and sake bombing party! It was AWESOME. Â Our server guided us in fun sake bomb chants and volunteered to take a bunch of pictures of all of us throughout the evening.
Every bite of sushi was delicious!! Much better than I would expect from an all you can eat deal. And when one of my friends arrived late, they brought him an extra plate of sushi to catch up.
All in all - Â fantastic food, great service, and a ton of fun!
When I first walked into this place, you are instantly greeted by everyone working with a loud "HELLO!" Making you feel welcome.
Everything was very fresh, well portioned, and not too terribly expensive. I came with two other people and left full, without unloading my entire wallet.
Good decor, nice servers, this is a pleasant Sushi place. Since I have only been here once, I give it three stars, but if I go back, and enjoy it just as much I could see the rating change.
The best sushi place I have ever went. The owner is the sushi chef and he is extremely friendly and jolly. The environment is very small but has an intimate feel to it. Service is excellent. Food came decently quick and the waiter are quite friendly and attentive.
Armitage is probably the best roll to devour. The sake bombs are popular here. There are pictures near the entrance of sake bomb champions. There are sake bomb events that the restaurant host over the weekend.
Will definitely come back.
Easily one of the BEST sushi places I've ever eaten at. The rolls are full of flavor and meat. Other places cheat you by filling the rolls with a lot of rice (tsk tsk), but this place is amazing. The service is impeccable and the atmosphere is festive in the least. Sake parties are here and they are OFF THE HOOK! Makes me want one..
All the rolls were soo delectable that I had a friend choose most of them. Though there is one roll that I will suggest staying away from, it was the one with mango and something. It was trying to combine sweet with savory, but it fell slightly short.
Everything else is ugh, the best sushi.
Excellent service - I can't enough about how nice the people were here when I came to get my carryout. The interior is like that of any other BYOB sushi place in Lincoln Park but at 6 p.m. on a Tuesday there were 5 adorable girls crowded around a table drinking cocktails so it's definitely appropriate for the weeknight girl's night or a casual date.
I, on the other hand, showed up in my sweatpants at the end of a long hard day to pick up some sushi. I got super hungry when I got there and knew that sushi alone wouldn't suffice so I also ordered some crab rangoon to go. They offered me a seat, a smile, and a glass of ice water while I waited - again, very friendly people. But for $20-something bucks, two rolls of average sushi and below average crab rangoon just really didn't float my boat.
Sushi O Sushi is actually pretty cool. For whatever reason I always forget this stretch of Armitage exists because my brain tends to think along the lines of: Sheffield, Halsted, Clark, The Zoo, The Lake. That's all there is for me on that side of Armitage. So sometimes I go months without remember places like Sushi O Sushi or Geja's or whatever other things are hiding right there on that block.
Hanging out at Argo and desperate for food, my girlfriend and I tried to think of anything we really enjoyed in the 'hood that we hadn't been to in a while. We were stumped, so I asked my phone and it informed that Sushi O Sushi was open for business down the street. We headed over and were seated in a quiet corner by ourselves. Everything we had was really tasty and the sushi chef and server were friendly and attentive without being in your face (I find it a little creepy when people need to ask you how you're enjoying every bite).
The bill was actually not as bad as I would expect from the area, either, so I was definitely pleasantly surprised. It's not my go-to sushi joint, I have too many options closer to me for that, but it's a great place in the area and definitely beats some of the less than sexy places a little further north on Clark.
I visited Sushi O Sushi last night for a take out order on my way to the free screening of No Strings Attached sponsored by Gilt City Chicago. I wanted to find a sushi joint on Armitage close to Lake Shore Drive, and I got it!
I ordered the S2 roll and the Negi Hamachi roll. The S2 had spicy mini scallops on top of salmon and avocado. I was pleasantly surprised to open my styrofoam box and find the roll smothered in scallops! They didn't take away from the taste or appearance at all. They were fabulously delicious and I had never seen scallops offered in sushi before!
The Negi Hamachi roll had Yellow Tail and scallions. It was light and fresh and perfect. When I arrived at the restaurant to pick up my order, the waiter was so nice and friendly! He also informed me that the chef had included a complimentary box of perfectly salted edamame. Holy cow was it good. I had to sit in some traffic on Lake Shore Drive while I was getting to the Showplace ICON on Roosevelt. So I deftly reached into the edamame box to comfort my starving stomach. They were salted just right, still warm, and contained tender little soy beans! Delicious.
They also included a generous amount of soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger. I need all three to enjoy my sushi! I would LOVE to go back to Sushi O Sushi and I would for sure recommend it. The interior of the place was a lush red. It seemed small and cozy, but the staff made me think that it could also get pretty rowdy in there. They were  young and personable. I'd love to try it for a sit-down dinner soon!
Amazing place to come with a group of people! Â I came here this past weekend with 12 of my girlfriends for my birthday. Â As soon as I walked in, the sushi chef seemed so excited to see us entering the restaurant. Â He was too funny.
As soon as we sat down, the waiter brought us all beers and edamame. Â Ten minutes into dinner, we were getting a saki bomb tutorial, because you don't just drink a sake bomb, it is an event in itself. Â About every 15-20 minutes, our waiter would come to our table and say..."are you ready!," we would through up our hands and yell "YEA!...SAKE SAKE SAKE BOMB!" The sushi chef was in the back yelling at us to DRINK! Â If you are looking for a quiet weekend dinner, this is not the place for you.
Beyond the fun time our girlfriends had with the sake bombs and the staff, the sushi was pretty amazing as well. Â My favorite was the armitage roll.
My friends and I all agreed it is one of the most fun dinners we have gone to. Â It's definitely not an every weekend place, but the next time we have friends in town/something special going on, we are coming here. Â
FYI, I made my reservation 2 1/2 weeks in advance for 12, and the only table reservation they had open was at 6 pm. Â Depending on the size of your party, you may want to make a reservation pretty far in advance.
SERIOUSLY? YUM!
I used to live across the street from this place and that was dangerous I'm pretty sure I've almost overdrawn my bank account a dozen times because this place is so tempting and delicious!
The interior is beautiful, very intimate and I feel as though every roll is very carefully put together.
Sushi O Sushi, where fore art thou

After I left this place I felt like the sushi chef was my new best friend and that if I ever had a bad day, I could come back in and he would cheer me up with some deliciously fresh rolls and one of the fist bumps mentioned in another review. The food was pretty tasty and there were some creative rolls on the menu that I will be going back to try. Also, they do have an asian beer (and I think a few other beers too) selection priced at what you'd expect in Chicago, so you won't feel ripped off if you need to down your fish with some Asahi or Sapporo.
The place was small, organized, and overall aesthetically pleasing, and the crowd was non-offensive - neither pretentious nor crazy nor mega trendy nor scary nor silent. I don't know how accommodating they could be with large groups as it was only couples when I went, but I'd recommend it for a date or double date (or menage a trois, if thats how you roll... yeeooowww!).
Signs you're in for an interesting evening:
* the first sound you hear when you walk in is, "woooo!"
* the sushi chef fist bumps people as they walk out
* guy with one sandal in his back pocket punches and bashes his head against every surface in the place
* table next to you films soft core porn shots on their iphones
* the noise level makes you glad you decided to pre game
From the moment we walked in, I felt like I was at my local pub. Â Rowdy crowd, friendly welcome from the chef, good times all around.
We ordered the spicy california roll (not my choice), the whitefish tempura roll, the 911 tuna roll and the mexican roll. Â The whitefish roll was delish and holy mama, that 911 roll was HOT! Â Love this place for making something that gave me a run for my money. Â
I also ordered the unagi and the tuna nigiri. Â The unagi was pretty standard, but the tuna was fresh and delicious. Â They happened to be out of the uni, which was a bummer, but we were pretty happy with the sushi that we had. Â They forgot the mexican roll, which ended up being ok because we were stuffed anyhow.
I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Â I've been past this place a hundred times, but never gave it a second thought. Â Thanks to my laziness and the proximity to my house, I think I may have found a great new neighborhood place.
I have been reading yelp for a long time - but I decided to open an account so I could review this sushi restaurant!
I was here a few weeks ago and LOVED it. It's a really small place - only 5 or 6 tables, and maybe the bar? I can't remember whether or not you could sit at the bar. Anyways that's really besides the point.. because the sushi that we ordered was delicious. We ordered a spicy tuna, as well as an armitage roll, and something with salmon in it. Everything tasted really fresh and was full of flavor. I HIGHLY recommend the armitage roll - it is probably one of my new favorites.
Keep in mind this place is only open in the evenings. I recommended it to some friends at lunchtime and they went but it was closed. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because it was kind of pricey.. but well worth the money.
Helllloooo, wellllcommmme tooooo youuuuuuu!
This was the greeting my cranky, soaking wet self got by the funny older sushi chef when I walked in to pick up my order. It was so goofy it did make me crack a smile, which was good since my bad day had left me on the verge of going postal.
I'm upgrading SOS to 4 stars. This time I got the regular spicy salmon and spicy tuna along with the crab rangoon appetizer. The rolls were perfect, right amount of heat, nice large pieces of fish and not falling apart like last time. The crab rangoon was meh. There's not much crab-cream cheese in them, it's about 75% shell, I don't think they're worth the money and wouldn't order them again.
All in all, solid meal and friendly, welcoming service. They've officially made my neighborhood sushi take-out rotation.
Can't believe this place doesn't have more reviews. Â This is truly one of the best sushi spots in town.
Yesterday, we wanted sushi close by and remembered Sushi O Sushi. Â Before we went in, we waited a minute outside so a friend of mine could have a smoke. Â Out from a garden level door rushed a cute lil' Asian man with huge red glasses saying "HELLO! Â COME IN COME IN!" Â I thought, wow he must be desperate for business, and it might be a bad sign. Â The place was empty, which was ok because its a small space.
Our waiter Kyle was attentive, friendly, and fast. Â Andy, the man in the red glasses, (also the owner and chef) was yelling out to us and was very funny. Â He made us a red snapper sashimi on the house, and a beautiful new creation roll with mango in it- sooooo good.
EVERYTHING was AMAZING. Â Seriously, this guy makes the most creative rolls that will blow you away. Â The famous "Armitage roll" was probably my favorite. Â It can get kinda expensive, but sushi is one of those meals you really splurge on if it's that good.
Ugh, such a hidden gem- you NEED to try this place. Â Preferably early on a weeknight to get the same wonderful personal experience we had. Â It was so good that I forgive the chef for thinking I was Jenna Bush, ewww.
Lately, all I want to eat is sushi. I'm thinking of going on a sushi-only diet. Anyway... the boy and I came here last night before a show at Park West. Convenient location in a cute area with a couple of other restaurants right next door to the theater! We went at around 6:30 on a Tuesday night and it was NOT crowded at all -- I think there were two other parties served while we were there. So, the whole experience had a quiet, intimate feeling which was nice and romantic. Especially since they seated us at a corner booth in the back, so cozy! With pillows and everything.
I thought everything we ordered was fantastic. We just got maki, no other entrees or appetizers or anything. My favorite was, as every other reviewer has noted, the dragon roll. SO SO SO good. I also loved the spider roll, and the Philly & California rolls, which we always have to get when we're at a sushi place (he's from Philly; I'm from California... aww, how cute! snort.) We also ordered the spicy tuna crunch roll, which I didn't even try because the bf told me it would be too spicy for me. I think that was just because he wanted to eat it all, though! He liked it. And, last but not least, we ordered the salmon sesame roll, which was decent but sort of boring.
Because I needed to be drunk in order to put up with the ridiculous shoes that I had decided to wear (who decides to break in new shoes at a CONCERT?! stupid, stupid me), I had two plum-tinis. YUM! So good, even the cucumber slices in them. And they started me nicely down the road to drunkenness (although the Park West bar did its best to later thwart me at every turn... more on that in my Park West review). The boy had mai tais and they were good too.
All in all, a fantastic experience. I'd definitely go back!
This is good sushi, esp. since its 1.5 blocks from my house, not great blow me out of the water sushi, but its good. The prices are pretty good and so are their selections. The have a good variety of nigiri.
I would recommend the suzuki nigiri (striped bass) - it melts in your mouth, the spider roll (crab)- but have it hand rolled, and their dragon roll. Holy circus in my mouth when the dragon roll hits my taste buds! The key is that the unagi is skinless, alot of places leave the skin on which makes it tough and chewy. The presentation is really nice, the wasabi comes in a little leaf shape with detail, which for some reason always makes me smile.
I don't get too adventurous at places that aren't top of the line, so here I just eat average everyday rolls. Overall, they are good, and I think my mouth just watered thinking of the Dragon Roll.
As for service, they are really good. I usually sit at the end of the bar so that I can watch the chefs work their sushi magic, and its never crowded. I think only one waitress works there and she is super nice, always smiling and if you have a question she doesn't look at you like you have a third ear or something.
This is by far some of the best sushi that I've had in Chicago, and I hail from LA and Hawaii, so I know my sushi. Â the atmosphere was nice ( I was the only on in the restaurant on a Tuesday afternoon), and the staff was very accommodating. Â The music was great, however a tad loud for my taste, especially for me being the only on there. Â I loved the decor, and I can envision this place being packed in the evenings.
Sushi o Sushi is very reasonably priced. Â I had an Asiteru roll (can't remember which one, although I believe it had spicy tuna inside and salmon outside) Â The deal maker for me was the sweet coconut sauce they drizzled on top... it was Amazing! Â I also had your regular run of the mill maguro roll and kani nigiri, both of which were excellent. Â
They have a pretty good menu selection, and even sell stir fry for the non-sushi eaters. Â Great place, and they deliver if you live in the area!!
This is my best friend's favorite sushi spot in all of Chicago. Â She gets the Dragon Rolls & insists that they are by far, the best she's ever eaten. Â & the girl likes her food, so I'm not gonna debate with her (especially since eel isn't on my list of vegetarian-approved items). Â She also recommends the crab rangoon (the one thing I miss being a veggie) & is a HUGE fan of their sushi wine.
I've been here twice - both times with her - because it's a block from my apartment, so it's crazy convenient. Â The edamame is delicious. Â I ordered the shitake mushroom rolls which were sometimes a little tough to chew, but at the same time very tasty. Â The cucumber roll fell apart a little, but still was refreshing after the shittake.
The restaurant is unassuming on the outside, on a lower level with three small tables if you'd like to sit outside (which we did before it started to sprinkle) when you walk down the steps but before the entrance. Â Inside, it is a burst of chic color, reds, blacks, woods. Â Both times I've been there, there have been no more than 3-5 other people there besides us, so there's plenty of room to eat & enjoy yourselves.
The waitress was happily accommodating & pleasant. Â It was a little odd, though, after a while, being the only ones there (after the two other patrons left), because two people kept peeking around the corner at us to see if we were done yet, but I'd rather that than being attacked or being left alone for long periods of time.
The music that they played --- I should've asked what CD it was, because it was really cool. Â We were discussing it & decided we felt like we were in the middle of a Tarantino or Woo movie & at any moment, someone was going to barge it & start a firefight. Â Alas, though, it was just the groovy music ... not that we were disappointed.
