Summary: This place is consistent and simply great! I LOVE IT!
I have been to literally hundreds of sushi places (including NYC, California (LA, SF)). Â So I cannot say this is the best sushi place I have ever been to, but I can say that I ALWAYS truly enjoy their food AND service, and it is amongst the best!
What I love about it is the following: It looks so simple and casual, yet so inviting and intimate. The best thing about their menu is that it has pictures of all the appetizers and dishes. The appetizers are simply the best! They are unique and taste great. Â I love their oyster shooter! It is the BEST shooter I've ever had.
I have been there over half a dozen times with people as well as alone. I have never been disappointed. Â Last time I went the service was outstanding. Â My server, Mint, was so kind and so helpful. Â She offered some suggestions based on some of my selections, and I was glad to try them. Â I love when servers help you order! She got it right. Â The food came so fast, I could not believe it, especially since It gets busy in there, with people calling in orders to go, as well. Yet the 5 chefs behind the bar I was singly seated at were impeccable. Â They were the epitome of talent, coordination, and organization yet somehow managed to slip in a smile to me and even ask how I like the food.
This place may not be fancy looking or overly romantic, but it is a place that I will keep going to because of how much I enjoy everything on their menu and their outstanding service and speed.
So Sushi Republic has been sticking with their original delivery guy and the sushi has been arriving fresh,,in good shape and within 30-45 minutes. They always remember my extra wasabi and ginger. I am still loving the spicy shrimp soup and when I order brown rice with one item and white rice with another,,that is exactly how it arrives. They are always friendly and YES their Delivery is FREE!!! Someone mentioned it was not and they are wrong! The only thing I should warn about is that their prices did just go up although they are not unreasonable still. They also included a menu with the words "NEW" written on it which I think appropriate. Yes,,Sushi Republic,,you have been back in my good graces for some time now. Thanks!
Review Source:Retract! Retract! I had two experiences with the Republic that ended the honeymoon!
Came here about 2 weeks ago on a Thursday night around 9pm. The restaurant was half full. We were seated and given time to peruse the menu. Lots and lots of time! Someone came by the table to ask if we wanted to move to a larger table, but did not take our order. We flagged down the manager-type guy, who said he would send over someone to take our order, and still, we waited. Another couple that came in at the same time as we did ordered and received their food, and there we were.....waiting for someone to take our order! I was so hungry that by the time the food arrived, I really couldn't say if it was worth the wait - it was just inhaled.
We ordered delivery from here last night and it was an epic fail. The food took over an hour to arrive, the "free" delivery was not free and the food was totally sub-par, once it finally arrived. Hot items were cold, the rolls were fallilng apart and everything was wickedly salty. Extremely disappointed.
I love Sushi Republic. I go there at least once a month and I feel at home. The service is attentive and friendly. The fish is always fresh.. I like the narutomaki, the tuna avocado salad and the sashimi appetizer. But the real reason we keep coming back is to have the lychee ice cream.
Review Source:This is my new favorite dining spot during the week!! By now the staff must know me by name. Haha.
I work at the Bal Harbour Shops across the street, and this little sushi joint is a great place to escape the world of overpriced dining that we offer at Bal Harbour. Yes our restaurants at the Shops really are amazing, delicious, etc... BUT, I'm not rich, and I can't afford to eat at those prices every day.
Enter Sushi Republic. I ate here for the first time about 3 weeks with some co-workers who recommended I try it. They offer a delicious Bento lunch for $9.50 which brings miso soup, salad, california rolls and two more choices of your liking (I like to go with the Teriyaki Chicken and Tuna Roll). Plenty of food! Its a truly amazing bargain for the price you pay!
Since my first visit, I have eaten here on average 2 to 3 times a week. their sushi is fresh, the service is friendly, and the location is perfect - especially for me. Right across the street from my office! Until the day comes where I can afford to spend $25 a day on lunch at some of our restaurants (Carpaccio, Makoto, La Goulue), I will be sticking to Sushi Republic. See you there.
I've decided that the sushi here is not as great as I first thought. All their rolls are just good. I need a place in this area that has sushi like Shibui is Kendall. I want rolls that make me say "wow" and moan while I'm eating it. I haven't had that in a while... I'll have to take a trip down south.
Review Source:I love Sushi Republic!! It's been my staple sushi place in the north of Miami Beach area for close to a decade. The food is delicious and the service is good. The quality of food is always as expected.
Regardless of what my entire order is, I always manage to get their Republican roll. It satisfies my sweet/salty tooth to a tee! Â Eel, salmon skin, cream cheese, Â and asparagus all wrapped up in a barely sweet egg crepe. Doesn't that sound delicious? It's a must try. The only menu item that I'm not that thrilled with is their yakiudon. I've had better noodles elsewhere... particularly at Hiro's Yakko-San.
If you're not in the mood for the tight quarters that is Sushi Republic, I'd recommend just getting delivery. The food will still be delicious, and they're usually pretty good on timing. They've been working on expanding their restaurant for what seems like years now. When that finally happens, it will be a happy day!
Authentic to a fault, my favorite sushi joynt in Miami. Fresh selections of fish and attention to the tiniest detail in presentation makes Sushi Republic a true gem in the shadow of the glitzy food being served in nearby Bal Harbor Shops. It is my preference to order "omakase" - literally, letting the chefs decide the fish. That said, some of the best appetizers include: Age Tofu (fried tofu in a sweet-ish sauce); Crispy Calamari (served w ponzu); Negimaki (which for Sushi Republic is actually meat wrapped around the "negi"//scallions); Chicken Katsu (chicken cutlet that is battered in a very light Japanese breading); Hamachikama (Yellowtail Jaw that is grilled & often you can ask for a sweet miso sauce); Narutomaki (sweet vinegar with crab & avocado) & finally, the Futo-maki ("big roll"). As for sushi, my advice is order the fish you know you like and make sure the chefs know what you don't like. I am not a big eater of "hikarimono" (shiny fish, like mackerel); but, this is the one place I enjoy it when it is available. There are few interesting selections that are seasonal as well. Morokyu has been available and you can always order that Japanese child favorite drink, Ramune (no the marble won't end up in your mouth. I usually am too full for desserts but Andrew Z. is right, the tempura ice cream is great (in fact, if you enjoy tempura, as with the "katsu" they batter is light and perfect for all of the tempura dishes served). Gochi-so-sama-desu !!!
Review Source:What a great find! The only sushi place by my house is Katana which is fun, because you get to pick your sushi of floating boats, but really isn't quality. I'm very happy to have come across Sushi Republic which is only 10 minutes away. The service was fast and reliable and the food was great!
Not the best sushi I've ever had, but definitely good enough for a local spot. The miso and ginger salad were excellent as well. I'd stay away from the Rice Cake ice cream balls though... they have the consistency of chewing gum.
The best Japanese atmosphere in Miami...The Sushi Chefs are Japanese even some of the Waiters are Japanese...Through the Glass they serve the Beers to the Food is so Japanese that you feel back in Japan in that small family business's restaurants...Food is Great!!!
The best  Choice to whom wants a Japanese food experience in Miami.
What's with all the hating on sushi republic!?! Â I have been frequenting this place since high school....typing that made me feel old. Â My go to dish is always the chirashi. Â Good sushi rice isn't easy to make, but these guys do it right. Â The array of fish is pretty good, and fresh. Â By the way, I love how these sushi "experts" on yelp comment on the freshness of fish. News flash!!!! Almost all sushi fish is previously frozen. Â Sorry, it's true. Â
Try this staple in the up and coming Harding area.
I've been coming to Bal Harbour over winter break and new years for the past 10 years. During each stay, I must go to Sushi Republic at least 3-4 times. During the year I dream about getting my favorite rolls and all the awesome delicious dishes that they have.
They have a great menu with a lot of variety, complete with pictures for people new to Japanese cuisine. The sushi chefs are very friendly, and even though we come in 1 week a year, they always remember us. They watched me grow up (granted 1 week a year) for 10 years, and they are really awesome.
The tuna avocado salad is a great starter, along with the boo boo tuna. Everything is priced well and very fair, and the portions are good too. I always order a good amount of rolls, and you can never go wrong with a few oyster shooters. They always have good specials. I especially love the whole deep fried flounder or snapper when they have it. For dessert YOU MUST get the ice cream tempura. Of all the ice cream tempura that I have had, this is the best.
In conclusion, Sushi Republic has a good atmosphere and everyone is very friendly. The food is great, and if you get a seat at the sushi bar, the sushi chefs are super friendly too. I have traveled around the US and have eaten some of the best sushi it has to offer in LA, San Francisco, NYC, Honolulu, etc, and Sushi Republic is one of my favorites in the US easily.
Oh Sushi Republic...How you've saved me so many times  when the whale in me has surfaced!
I lived right across the street from them and had to eat or order from them at least once a week to satisfy my sushi cravings. They have the BEST oyster and quail egg shots EVER. So much flavor in this tiny little shot glass (check out the picture)!
And the sushi is always fresh and exceptional.
I have only had delivery (yay decent sushi delivery in Bal Harbour) The rolls and dishes were good and the food got to us pretty fast.
I lowered my rating after eating at the restaurant and not being impressed and also from very subpar delivery subsequently to my first review. Now I would not recommend this restaurant to others.
sushi republic is a great intimate sushi joint to check out if you want good, reasonably priced sushi. Â i used to live right over the bridge in bay harbour and i would order take out at least once a week from here. Â my standard was the philly roll and a narutomaki (cucumber wrapped sushi roll w/o rice). Â i'd walk out of there only spending 11.70. Â it was great.
check it out if you're ever around there and craving sushi.
it gets 3 stars because it's just not the best sushi i've ever had. Â it is however, fresh and fast and tasty. Â if you want excellent sushi go to sushi siam (read my review)
