What a great little restaurant! Â
I opted to be nice and healthy and got myself a yellowtail collar with a sashimi salad for lunch.
The sashimi salad was so delicious! Â I was trying to be healthy but didnt feel like i was giving up anything eating this! Â Fish was fresh and the ginger dressing was so full of flavor! Â They used the 'fancy' greens and the arugula gave it a wonderful peppery kick that went so well w/the light n flavorful ginger dressing. Â I'll definitely get that again! Â
Service was really great too. Â My waitress was so sweet and kept my water glass filled. Â As I waited for my yellowtail collar, they put a plate w/a few pieces of a roll on my table, thinking it was for another table, i looked up and asked what it was as she mentioned my yellowtail was coming out shortly and it was actually on the house, how sweet :)
Sushi chefs greet you upon entering and greet you when you leave. Â Seems like they have some regulars coming in and you can hear them accomodating different orders to customers' liking and folks giving friendly hellos as they entered. Â
One customer even banged on the drum a little bit that was by the door before he left, which i thought they wouldn't like, having customers touching the props, but instead they answered by banging on the small gong behind the sushi stand, which made me smile :) .
Food was tasty and fast, service was great, and fun friendly environment. Â definitely a fan and definitely coming back.
three years ago, this place would have had 4-5 stars from me. But since then the fish we've had just isn't fresh. I keep ordering, hoping it was just off for the day, but after 6 more attempts, I just can't recommend this place. It's too bad, because I really want to support local business... but when it's good, it's good. And when it's not, it's not. In this case, it's just not.
Review Source:I met a friend here the other day for lunch. I wasn't expecting it to be bad, but it was better than I thought it would be. I ordered the bento box combo 2 and it was delicious and plenty of food. They even brought out a sushi roll on the house. My friend, who comes here regularly, said they do that every time she has come in. The  hostess and waitress was very friendly! I brought my baby in and she was very accommodating with helping me with the stroller and getting situated.
The prices are great. My bento box (miso soup, salad, rice, 2 rolls) and a drink was 11 dollars!
Okay, um no. Just NO.
The sushi is nothing spectacular; it's just edible. The price point isn't that bad ($24 per person), but the thing that really ruined this place for me was the incredibly AWFUL service. I came here with some friends, and each of us tipped the standard amount. As we were leaving, the waiter had the AUDACITY to chase us to the parking lot and yelled at us, "You guys didn't tip enough!"
What. The. Hell.
They didn't deserve any tip in the first place because:
1. They rarely checked up on us and didn't refill our drinks.
2. The sushi took forever and a day to come out.
3. The sushi wasn't even that great.
Do yourself a favor and go to Sake 2 Me in Tustin. Fresher and tastier sushi, WAY better service by a country mile, and definitely a lot cleaner. You're welcome.
Love there sushi! The sushi chefs are really friendly. They give you free sake shots if you sit at the bar. I usually get AYCE. The sushi to rice ratio is awesome.
I also always take out with my family. When they take out they always give an extra roll of their own.
This is one of the best around southern OC.
I went here for the first time just the other day and was immediately greeted with enthusiasm--I felt very welcomed and although not a very large place, the atmosphere is colorful and inviting. For $25 you get all-you-can-eat sushi, oh boy did I take advantage, but I made sure to compensate with a nice tip ;D They have a variety of appetizers, sashimi, and all their rolls on the all-you-can-eat menu; Which is impressive considering most sushi places I go to do not offer that kind of variety for all you can eat. I also helped myself to some delicious green tea mochi ice cream ^_^ (which was not on the all-you-can-eat menu BUT IT WAS SO GOOD). I will definitely come back and highly recommend this place to all sushi-lovers alike.
Review Source:Been going here for almost three years and LOVE the food. Â I always do take out though, so can't say anything about the service for waiting tables. Â It's a pretty ultra small conservative place with a mini sushi bar.
I ALWAYS get the BLCR, it's basically California Rolls smothered with a ton of baked Lobster that is so delicious, I can't wait to get home and eat it, I end up eating it at the stop lights on the way home.
It hits the spot every time! Â I even call my order in ahead of time. It's really sooooo sooo good!
Thanks, Tomo Sushi guys!
My friends and I ate here last night...there were 6 of us. Â My fiance always raves about how good the food is and how nice they are so we decided to meet everyone there.
The food definitely deserves a solid 4. Â I ordered the rainbow roll, and everything was very fresh. Â All the guys got all you can eat ($24) and were very satisfied with their orders.
However, I would give the service that night 2.5 stars. Â There was really only one woman taking orders for the whole place, and she seemed to be running around like a mad woman. Â We kept having to ask for menu every time we wanted to order something new. Â Once the order was taken, the food came out in a timely manner.
I would definitely come here again since the food was good. Â Maybe not on a Friday night though since it seemed a little too busy for the limited amount of staff available.
The sushi is honestly more like a 3 but the owner/waitress was so sweet so I'll give it a four according to her
Our first waiter was some sullen adolescent guy. Just very indifferent even though we were one of only two tables in the entire restaurant. He was a drag-his-feet can't-make-eye-contact kind of person. Essshh
Anyways we got the AYCE but paid the $24 dollar price since it was 2 something on the weekend. So if you want the lunch price, come before 2 :P
Decor- terrible. Those Boiling Crab graffiti style walls? I get it, its fun and interactive but once you have 10 layers of multi colored sharpie on there its not like you can even really discern what anyone wrote anyways. It just looks messy to me blegh :x
Sushi- kind of hit and miss. I loved the salmon and unagi nigiri. The unagi nigiri came out warm and was melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Hardly ANY rice. Even less than Asahi! But I was sad to see the oishi roll wasn't included in the AYCE. Also had the tempura, the crunch and spicy tuna roll and a few others. I also remember that I didn't like the albacore very much because it didn't taste very fresh.
Service- guy was terrible but the female owner definitely warmed up as the meal went on.
So overall, I liked the owner but thought the sushi could be better. Really loved that salmon and unagi though :x mmm. Hungry.
I went here a few days ago and was disappointed. The fish to rice ratio is still great, but the quality of the fish was ok. I ordered my usual albacore and spicy scallop sushi. Both were just ok. It was way better the last time I had it which was a few years ago. Service started out great, but then they got busy and since they only had one waitress working, it took forever to get our food/water refilled. I probably won't be back.
Review Source:I've been coming to Sushi Tomo for the better part of 3 years now and they've never disappointed me. Â For an all you can eat establishment, the fish is surprisingly fresh, the cuts are sizable, and the chefs are funny as hell. Â Justin, the owner, and his wife are incredible. Â
The place is a modest size and, when it's dinner time, can fill up fast. Â They've got TVs up so you can watch a game here. Â I came during the NBA playoffs to watch the Laker game. Â Nice to experience the 3 S's: sushi, sake, and sports. Â
This is hands down my all you can eat sushi joint of choice. Â Nothing else in the area comes close. Â Get Justin and the chefs drunk enough and they'll start giving you fish anatomy lessons and slicing off some of the juicier portions for you to try.
If you want to stuff your face with some good quality food and a chill atmosphere than this is the place. The owners are really nice, especially if your Korean hahaha...
But overall this place is fantastic. It is a bit pricey but what sushi place isn't. Note if you do get the AYCE menu make sure to get the calamari!!
If I could give this place a negative 10 stars I would. Im so disappointed in the service here. Can you guys believe the "waiter" chased after us to the parking lot asking "hey where's my tip"
I felt so insulted!
1. I was more then generous with my patience.
2. He's a shitty waiter
3. Didn't check on us nor did he ask to refill our drinks.
4. I can ask for that type of service at mcdonalds  & not be obligated to tip
5. I work at a restaurant , I know what customer service means and I didn't receive that.
I'm never coming back.
The service was good, and the restaurant itself is a good size, not too big, not too small. There was only two people running around refilling drinks, seating, serving, etc and 3 sushi chefs. The thing that I like about sushi tomo was that at the beginning our dishes came out one by one. Not sure if it was because they were SUPER slow at making the sushi or it was on purpose, but either way, it gave us more time to eat and talk while we waited for our next plate to come out.
I came in a party of 4 and we were starving. There were only 3 other tables in the restaurant when we came, and the guys I came with complained that the rolls were taking a while to come out, so expect a little bit of a wait (or a long one, if its busy). The nigiri was my favorite, they gave a lot of fish and had a little bit of rice. The rolls were okay, I felt that they skimped out on a lot of fish for most of the rolls. Also, the hot night and another roll were REALLY similar, and as a heads up, the hot night was REALLY spicy! My favorite roll would have been the calamari one. I think the AYCE is worth it if you order a lot of nigiri, otherwise it's not worth it.
Lunch AYCE price is $21.50 (including tax). Our meal ended with (not AYCE), green tea ice cream which I did not care for. It was way too sweet and had a weird after taste.
Love this place for sushi. Went here for the first time a year ago and was given several plates of complimentary shashimi (since my parents opted out of eating AYCE sushi).
I totally agree with other reviews that it is best to go here in small groups since it is a small place. I've heard from my friends that service is sometimes iffy, but I've never had that experience. LOVE this place for AYCE sushi and is worth the price. They don't give nearly as much rice as a lot of AYCE places in the area.
We drove all the way out here based on the reviews that we read  for the AYCE lunch for $20.
The AYCE list is pretty limited, but we were pretty happy with the selections.
The list consisted of Appetizers, Sushi, Fresh Rolls, and premium rolls.
Appetizers:
The tempura shrimp was AMAZING. SO good. One of the best tempura I've had in a long time.
Miso was hot and a tasty. It was JUST right as baby bear would say from the "Three Bears".
Sushi & Rolls:
The rolls: sunset was pretty good. Everything else is okay.
Sushi: Size is petite and I didnt like the fact that they put some kind of sauce/vinegar on it. I like my sushi bare. We ordered our usual... Salmon, Yellowtail, Scallop, Red Snapper. They DIDNT have tuna on their sushi list. That was disappointing, because isnt tuna one of the basic fish for sushi? :( The sushi overall was ok, nothing tasty or a wow factor.
Setting:
A cute mom and pop place. The staff was friendly and attentive. The lady was prompt on refilling our waters and taking away our plates, and making sure our order is fulfilled. Great service.
-1.5 star on random ants on the sushi bar. AND the sushi AYCE is like any other AYCE... nothing great, nothing poor. Just ok.
ARRIGATO!!!
LOVE this place! The staff is so friendly and the sushi chefs are awesome. All you can eat is around $25 and comes with green tea ice cream at the end. Hot green tea itself is complimentary! Their fish is fresh which is a big plus and their rolls don't fall apart. Don't take a big group because it is a small place and make sure to hit the drum before you leave!
Also, bring a sharpie so you can sign the wall :p
I was driving through Irvine with a friend when we suddenly had a craving for some sushi. Looked it up on yelp and decided to pay Sushi Tomo a visit. The reviews seemed mixed.. but most of the negative reviews seemed biased.
We had the all-you-can-eat buffet for $24.99 which includes all the appetizer and the rolls (this was the dinner price. I believe the lunch price was $19.99).
Couple things that stood out to us:
- Baked Rolls - SO GOOD! They take a while to grill but it's most definitely worth the wait! I would go all the way back to Irvine just for the baked rolls.
- Sushi - Unlike a lot of other all-you-can-eat sushi buffets, they use less rice in their sushi. All you buffet lovers know what this means: MORE SUSHI!! I was extremely pleased with this since rice tends to fill me up a lot.
- Service - The waitress was so kind :) The sushi chef named Justin was also a great host to us!
I really recommend this place to sushi buffet lovers! I can't find any reasons to give it anything other than 5 stars :)))
This is place gets 2 stars only because the waitress is so nice - she even helped feed my son, which was very sweet. :)
Unfortunately, the fish has taken a turn for the worse. There was a time when I would bring guests here because it was a pretty good AYCE joint. Those days are over, sadly.
What was once a reputable AYCE sushi joint that I was proud to bring my sushi-loving friends to, is now no better than so many sub par AYCE sushi restaurants in the world. It may even be worse. The sauce they so generously lather on the rolls made my stomach churn just looking at it. Eating it wasn't much better. I found myself trying to wipe it off before eating the roll.
The only saving grace was the half-way decent yellowtail nigiri that came in my second order. The first serving was terrible, but I gave it a second chance because I love yellowtail and I figured it couldn't be much worse than the first helping. I guess I got lucky.
The fish was abysmal and worse than the last time, when I thought it was bad, but not this bad. I won't be back.
I've been going to this place for the past five years.
It has undergone a really strange evolution.
In the past, it was stunningly good for an AYCE. Service and speed was all over the place but I kind of expect that from most Asian restaurants. The owner & workers there were all super friendly though. The fish to rice ratio was fantastic, rolls were delicious and had creative sauces and the quality of the fish were completely rocking. Whenever friends or family visited Irvine I would always take them here since I wanted them to have a great experience.
In the past 1-2 years, there has been a steady decline in quality. It was very subtle, but the last 2-3 times the rolls started to look all the same. Imitation crab was used for crab and the fish quality went way downhill. The last time I went will probably be the last time I will be eating here. There goes the only good AYCE sushi place in this neck of the woods.
Service - so, so. The lady seems like she is in a hurry to use the bathroom. I asked to try their "special" salad dressing before I ordered it and she gave me guff - no big deal.
Ambiance - "the wall of nastiness" is what I refer to the wall next to our table. Feels like I'm in a class with a bunch of kindergarten gang-bangers. Crayon/Marker graffiti all over the entire wall. Go ahead and write what you want, no one cares!
Food - gross. Wife and I ordered a house salad, beer and 2 sushi rolls. The salad is bag-o-salad, and the sushi was hands down the worst ever! The fish was nasty - Almost like it wasn't thawed out all the way from the freezer and still was wet. The wetness and fishiness of the tuna soaked into the rice. It made the rice a wet, reddish pink color of soggy nastiness. After gagging at the table, we kindly asked for the check.
Price - weak. We had 2 sushi rolls that were gross, 1 bag-o-salad bowl and 1 beer each = $43 out the door.
Overall - waiter asked if everything was okay and it was clear that any constructive criticism wasn't going to be taken well. Since we asked for our check after taking 2 bites of sushi and a 1/2 empty beer, the waitress gave us a bill for $43. Hope this place hears our cry, because we are never paying for this again. Gross.
I used to be a huge fan of Sushi Tomo for AYCE, but tonight was severely disappointed.
The restaurant wasn't crowded at all, my party was the largest one there, yet the service was the slowest. It took about 20 minutes minimum for the start of each round to begin, and it took ages for all items ordered to come out. If I was scoring my experience solely on the service, it'd be 0 stars.
The sushi was good, not great. It feels like the place has gone way downhill, from when I used to come here. It's no longer a treat, or somewhere "special".
When paying, my friends had decided they would put my tip on their own bill (as they owed me money). The woman who came to collect our signed receipts checked how much each person tipped, individually, in front of them, and got extremely upset when she saw my receipt. When I tried to explain that my tip was on their overly-tipped bills, she got more upset, saying that the tip wasn't enough. Last time I checked, on a single person's bill, you can't demand x percentage of a tip, especially with such poor service.
Time to look elsewhere for quality AYCE sushi.
The first time I came here, the service and the food was pretty good. However, I came back a second time last week and it was not too great.
CONS: I ordered salmon nigiri and it was all drizzles with some sauce. I felt like they were doing that to cover up lack of freshness. Even though there was only 3 tables in total, the waitress was not ery attentive in service.
There are not many AYCE sushi places around Irvine and didn't want to drive to riverside so I came here. But don't think I will be back.
Okay, how many of you go to all you can eat sushi places where the quality of the fish is so-so and the rice portions are huge?
Not this place. The sushi for this all you can eat is better than most regular restaurants I've been to and you can eat until you drop.
The service is excellent, get to know the owners and sometimes they'll even give you special treats. Amazing stuff.
I would give it negative 10 stars if I could.
The pictures are very deceiving, and I think some of these reviews are either sponsored or doctored.
FIRST, the service, while they tried to be somewhat accommodating to our large group, they completely failed when they made us wait 1 hour to bring out our orders. they didn't bring out one big plate of our entire order, which would have made the hour-long wait understandable. No. They brought one each dish, one by one... which means the chefs didn't get to our order until 1 hour after we placed it. WTF?!
I should have known it would be bad when I saw they didn't even offer Uni (sea urchin) OR Maguro (tuna), yet there's a sign that says you can get blue fin tuna on top of your AYCE tuna order for $5 more. WHAT?!
The sushi, if you can even call it that, was beyond disappointing. Tiny pieces of mini sushi that are no bigger than my thumb. After eating 50 pieces and 10 rolls, we were still hungry.
No creativity, no flavor. The fish was old and smelled/tasted fishy. That is NEVER supposed to happen. The dishes lacked flavor and creativity . The wasabi was weak and I had to pile it on in order to even get a tiny little kick.
We tried to order a second round (it's AYCE, right?!) and they made us wait another hour before they came out with 1 roll. It wasn't even the right roll b/c no one had ordered it.
Did I mention they forgot parts of our first round of orders? It'd be okay if they forgot 1 small dish, that's excusable (although that shouldn't have happened). They forgot 5 things I had ordered.
That wasn't even as bad as the motherload of all offenses. THEY HAD THE NERVE TO LIST KANI (CRAB) ON THEIR ORDER LIST AND THEN GAVE ME IMITATION CRAB! IMITATION CRAB! IMITATION!!!!!! THEY GAVE ME SH*T MADE FROM CHEMICALS AND POWDER AND TRIED TO PASS IT OFF AS SEAFOOD!!!!
By this time we were fed up and we were running out of time (we had to catch a movie). We came in to eat at 6pm, and by 8:30pm we had to tell them to bring out whatever they had made, but to stop there b/c we were out of time.
They had the gall to look offended?! You make us wait 2 hours for an AYCE service and only serve us enough to fill up a small child... and YOU'RE offended??
NEVER have I had such a distasteful dining experience in my life. I wanted to ask the chefs where they trained. It seems as if one day, they decided to cut up some raw fish, slap it on rice and call it sushi.
This is a korean-owned establishment (I didn't see a nihonjin worker in the entire place) and I doubt any of their chefs understand what it really means to make sushi. I would've been met with blank stares if I had asked for omakase. I've had multiple temaki sushi parties with friends and I have to say that even amateurs like us could do much better.
I can't trust yelp reviews about sushi anymore. Everyone seems to review the rolls (which isn't authentic sushi anyway) and I can never get what I come for, the actually SUSHI (nigiri). Yelp, do your research before giving an establishment a five-star rating because "their ______ roll is so amazing!" Â -____-
Please.
To sum it up, as my friend so aptly put it as he held up one of the "special" rolls:
"This is going in the toilet."
HEED MY WORDS and look elsewhere. ESPECIALLY since the price is a ripoff! $27 for AYCE when CALIFORNIA BEACH does it BETTER with chefs that actually understand japanese sushi for $23. I've always done Omakase with the chefs at Calbeach and I'm NEVER disappointed. They've come up with some of the most delicious dishes I've ever had.
Yelp, you have failed me.
Came here with a party of 13, and was probably the worst decision ever. Mind you, we called ahead of time, at noon.
I can understand it might take a while to serve that many people but here's an example: we ordered our first round of sushi at around 6:20. After we finished relatively quickly due to the small portion size of the nigiri (smallest i've seen from at any sushi place, even ayce) we ordered a 2nd round. by 8, we still havent received all of our food.
Quality of fish was meh. Even the salmon and other "safe" choices had a slight fishy after taste. The Salmon Roe nigiri wasnt even that big, and was mostly rice. Â
The rolls are just variations of the same thing. A imitation crab filling with cucumber and then topped with maybe eel, shrimp, avacado, or small slivers of fish constituted a number different rolls. Some of these had a weird taste. The "BLSR" roll or whatever had small clumps of dry lobster that was void of any flavor. Â What's underneath these clumps, you ask? why, sushi with imitation crab inside. It's in everything!
The food was prepared so slowly for the 2nd round that we ended up telling the waiter to cut it off since we needed to be somewhere by 9 (The Avengers!). Service, while polite, was also extremely slow. After finishing our first round, we didnt get our 2nd order sheet in our hands for at least 10-15 minutes. So we waited twiddling our thumbs and wondering what could be the hold up.
I honestly didnt feel like I had my fill with ONLY 1.5 rounds. Terrible. Luckily they didnt have a 1 hour limit it seemed, because if they did it would be the rip off of a lifetime. As I was signing the check I didnt believe it was worth it. Would not come back again.
While I like good service, I pay to eat. I did not eat well here. I am genuinely surprised how this place is getting away with 4 stars as of May 6th.
Amaazing amazing service and food. $25 for AYCE sushi with a smile! Birthdays are fun here because the owner will flicker the lights and make the whole restaurant sing!
Justin (the owner) is such a hoot! It's like entertainment with the meal plus you can bet they'll remember your name after several visits!
Now on to the food:
The BEST rice to fish ratio when it comes to Nigiri. Every slice of fish is the perfect cut with just a tablespoon of well-seasoned rice on the bottom.. DELISH!! love their salmon, yellowtail, tuna, halibut and red snapper
I'm not a big fan of rolls because they're often drenched in mayo or wayy too baked but the rolls here are good. I recommend the BSLR, Vegas, and the Volcano Roll.
Friend oysters - NOM NOM NOMMMMZIES. i order two orders each time (comes with 4) and it is soooo good! Crunchy on the outide and SIZZLING hot and creamy on the inside. If you love oysters, you're going to diee for this one. But caution: Burns tongues!
All in all.. great food in a great atmosphere!
One bite and one shot is all it took to make me a non-believer. The worst albacore I have put in my mouth. No soft pink interior, just a boiled mess. Tasted like canned tuna. The salmon and yellowtail was average. The house hot sake had an odd spice and saltiness to it. I do not want to know why. You may be asking me what I was expecting eating at an all you can eat sushi restaurant. I was hoping for the restaurant to live up to the hype, and to be anywhere near as good as the photos made it look. The portions are tiny, the fish to rice ratio is great, but the freshness and execution is just not there. For the mecca of all you can eat sushi, seek out Sushi House Goyemon on your next trip to vegas. You can thank me later.
Honorable mention: The staff is really friendly, and create a good atmosphere to gorge yourself in fish and sake. Sadly, my gf and I could not get past the first few bites, and had to make our exit. Maybe it was a bad day? We will not be returning to find out any time soon.
I wanted to like this place but the fish here is not fresh at all.. The boyfriend and I did the all-you-can-eat and ended up paying a-la-carte prices because we just wanted to get out of there. It's a shame cause service was great and we were so excited to try this place :(.
The nigiri sushi looked soo bomb in the pictures.. Not so much in real life. Albacore was horrible.. I don't think I've had albacore that bad before. Salmon and yellowtail were okay, but had a bit of a lingering fishy taste.. Oh, and DON'T ORDER THE HOT SAKE. It had a weird salty taste to it? And the hangover was horrible.. I had a nasty headache at the end of the night.
Guess we'll never find an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant that's as good as Sushi Goyemon in Vegas..
Wow. Â Horrible, horrible horrible. Â This place was packed, tiny, crazy and uncomfortable. Â Service is BAD: one bus boy/server and one rude woman. They acted annoyed anytime they were asked for anything, never refilled drinks, mixed up orders without any apology. Â We ordered a large amount for AYCE: received a couple of the things, waited for about 30 min, then they asked us if we wanted more.... apparently the second half of our order was never coming.
Sushi was okay: all the rolls pretty much tasted the same, most were some variation of california rolls... boring. The sashimi all had some sort of weird sauce and didnt seem super fresh. The fried calamari was good, though we had to wait about an hour because they had originally brought it to the wrong table.
We eventually just left. We werent full or satisfied, but were so sick of waiting and sick of eating boring sushi that we basically had to stuff down because it sucked...
Overall: I would NEVER go back and Im annoyed that we spend so much there...
Best sushi joint in town!
AYCE for $25!?!? Can't beat that!
We sat at the sushi bar and got the AYCE special plus a beer or 2. Everything we ate was so fresh and delicious and we got SOOOOOO FULLLL!
The staff is super friendly and sweet and we had a great great time.
I can't even recommend a specific dish (well...the baked scallop and lobster was amazing...but will fill you up fast) because all of the sushi we had was super fresh and delicious!
Will definitely be coming back here soon!
Once my default for all-you-can-eat sushi, prices are up and service is down since I last came. Orders were placed clumsily on our table without much care, things don't come out as quickly as they used to, and the chefs aren't as lively as they were a year ago.
Still, what goes on in the kitchen remains unchanged. There's still a lot more fish than rice in the nigiri, and in this department Tomo is unmatched. Hell, my party ordered so much salmon (we were placing orders of 15 at a time) they ended up giving us a huge plate of sashimi. Too awesome.
Also, I need to retract some comments I made about Asahi being the lesser restaurant. Their fish is fresher, their rolls are superior, and they bring out orders lightning fast. Tomo does do a better job with the fried appetizers, but that's not what I'm here for.
Dinner was still great, but as of now Tomo has gone from a place I'd highly recommend to somewhere I wouldn't mind ending up at.
I was a little excited to try this place after looking at the reviews and some of the pictures, but I came out pretty disappointed.
I had the AYCE option and once the nigiri came out, it was sooooo tiny. The freshness of the fish was also pretty questionable too. The salmon was the best part of everything, but that's really not saying too much. Halibut sushi was pretty nasty. The Vegas Roll was full of filler. It felt like a giant California Roll. The Spider Roll had like soft shell crab only on the ends of it. In between was just California Roll. One thing I kinda liked was the Rice Cake, but that brings me to another thing I don't like. They keep putting this Korean sweet sauce on everything. All their rolls, the gyoza, the Rice Cake, nearly everything. It's kinda groce to me, not only on sushi just in general.
The sushi chef was kinda annoyed by us ordering stuff too. Lazy guy, we were the only two people in the whole restaurant...
Won't be back though the waitress was nice. Also, this place is so hard to find.
Got lost trying to find this place on Google map.. =(
Its next to the Stater bros..not the Home Depot.. The cross street is Moulton parkway..
They REALLY REALLY need to hire more waitresses when it's busy..service can be very slow on Fridays & weekends. -1
after your 1st order it gets really really slow, almost non existent ;( -1
We tried to order an variety of different sushi all at one time so that we wouldn't have to keep waiting for our food to come out.. BUT we had to ARGUE with the waitress on the amount if sushi that we would be able to finish... =( -1
COME ON now, we're here for the AYCE, nothing else..& the waitress here has the NERVE to tell us what we can & canNOT order to EAT??!! WTH??
If you love/ can handle sashimi (Nigriri) & want the best bang for your buck, just order the sashimi.. =)
Do NOT waste your time with all the fusion/ baked sushi with all the fancy funny names.... (YUCK..some of them had fried stuff on top of them & WAY TOO much sauce & rice to fish ratio..& a lot of them came out COLD & tasteless.) =( Â -1
BTW, BLSR roll is on the AYCE menu but they crossed it our & said that it was NOT available for AYCE What??!! =( -1
BTW,people with loud babies should stay home / get a sitter =(
we ALL like to enjoy our food without a loud wailing baby..that's what babysitters are for.. =)
I've had AYCE sushi all over & I'd have to say the best ones are in LA or Vegas..NOT OC..
EPIC FAIL for this AYCE sushi joint...
I had high hopes for this place but sorry Yelp, you've disappointed me here...=(
We decided to go to Tomo because of the good reviews on yelp, but the experience was pretty disappointing. There was no wait when we got there which was good and the AYCE sushi selection seemed pretty decent.
We order 8-9 rolls for round 1 and wait, then wait, and waited some more. 1 roll finally comes after 20mins and we wait again. It probably took them 90 mins for the rolls to slowly trickle in. Not a fun eating experience when you eat 2 pieces of sushi and wait another 10 mins. Round 2 was faster but still slow, but they use the SAME sauce on ALL their rolls. Seriously?! You can't even tell the difference between the different types of sushi because the sauce is overpowering and generously applied. Are they trying to cover up the not-so-fresh fish or something?
This takes the cake. Our party of 4 only ordered 2 rounds of sushi because the constant waiting made us full and we couldn't stand the sauce anymore. We had about 7 pieces of sushi left over and call the waitress over for the bill. Instead the wife/female owner or whoever she was came to our table and started giving us a lecture on why we should eat those last 7 pieces. Her scolding went on for a good 7 mins. Thankfully this was all in korean so her tirade was lost on me but the one korean guy at our table (poor guy) got it good. We didn't get to take home the sushi but we didn't have to pay for the extras either.
Slow service, taste masking sauce, and naggy owner ='s 2 stars.
Couldn't give a one star because being scolded at a restaurant is a first for me and it was oddly exciting.
(this is my first yelp review)
I generally trust yelp ratings but this is
WAY TOO OVERATED!!!
10 mins of no service after being seated.
tried AYCE. another 5-10mins to get the sushi sheet to us.
extremely fishy yellowtail - worst yellowtail of my life
overall not fresh
I posted up a picture of what they call "crab" - go check it out
waited too long between orders - one time it was 20 minutes
crappiest service / apathetic teenager waiter
Never coming back.
It was so horrible I ended up signing up with Yelp
