I was a regular at the West Orange location and was beyond excited when they moved to Livingston. I have been here for brunch and lunch and both are delicious. I have had numerous menu items (poached pear French toast, huevos rancheros, Tunisian eggs to name a few) and you cannot go wrong with whatever you order!
Cannot say enough great things about Sweet Basil's!
After much anticipation, this creative brunch favorite relocated from the neighboring town to my own! The breakfast/brunch menu remains the same and the upgrade to organic fair trade coffee is a welcome change!
The new digs are minimalist which isn't a distraction, but the parking situation in this strip mall locale is one for certain.
Service was prompt and pleasant. My au lait was served nice and steaming hot. The food really is solid, and a notch above a great diner like the Ritz down the block. But don't expect this brunch place to rival some of the best places in Manhattan (e.g. Norma's, Jane, Clinton Street Baking Company, Balthazar etc) The creativity and quality just don't quite match up. That said, if you're a local or just visiting the wonderful Garden State and are looking for a great omelette, sweet gooey French toast, or just a simple breakfast spot that just feels a little more special than a diner, this cafe/restaurant is a good choice. The all day brunch service is a huge plus, the take-out option is great and the lunch and new dinner service are probably worth exploring.
