I live next door to Tailgate and have been going for 5 years.
The food is better than most sports bars. They have daily and game day specials as well as happy hour and late night. They have lots of TVs, Buzztime Trivia, good service, and karaoke on Tuesday and Saturday starting at 9pm.
I like to go on Saturday nights for karaoke and 2-4-1s.
Also, there is a small outdoor space in the back - which I feel most people don't know about, or take advantage of.
Went there on Monday for their cheap wing and 1/2 priced taps!! Great wings and beer! Had a great time, the wait staff is very friendly and fun to talking with! As far as sports bars go this one is one of the better ones to have fun at! I totally recommend this place for a fun time! Check out their Monday wing special!!
Review Source:Best sports bar in the immediate area... well its the only sports bar in the immediate area but the drinks are cheap 10+ TVs with Sunday ticket. The food I give a 3.5 but the wait staff is friendly and with daily specials you won't be mad about watching your favorite sports team and having a drink with friends.
Review Source:It is the only decent bar open late if you find yourself in Richfield. I'd grab a beer here because they have a few good classic crafts on tap and they have a few choice bartenders. Their food is typical low quality bar food (e.g. cheese sauce vs. real cheese) with no vegetarian options.
Review Source:I was pleasantly surprised with this place. Â The burger was high-quality and tasty and it looks like they have a great happy hour (2 for 1's baby!). Â Their menu features American fare along with Mexican and gyros, odd combo but it seems to work. Â I'd choose this place over Champps any day.
Review Source:I'm not usually the type to go to a "sports bar," but the Tailgate is close to home and I decided to check it out when I moved to the neighborhood two years ago. I'm hooked.
First of all, it's a sports bar, but it doesn't feel like walking into a sports bar. It's more of a neighborhood bar, and has a very comfy, welcoming feel. Secondly, the food is amazing. Everything I've eaten there has been fantastic, and the variety of choices on the menu is incredible. There are burgers, sandwiches, soups, pizzas, wraps, gyros, ribs, appetizers and just about everything in-between. The best part is that the prices are surprisingly inexpensive for the amount of food you get. You can go across the street to Perkins and pay more and get less food (and food that isn't nearly as good).
There's karaoke on Tuesday and Saturday nights that is really fun to go to, and the selection of songs is really impressive.
Their 2-for-1 drink specials are a great deal, too. Happy hour food is cheap and tasty. They have other specials during the week, too.
It's a great place to hang out with your friends and enjoy some delicious food, some tasty drinks and either belt out 4 Non Blondes' "What's Up?" at karaoke or play some NTN trivia.
We hit tailgate about once a month on a Saturday night because kids eat free. Our favorite menu item is the gyros sandwich, which is artfully crafted in the Shiraz kitchen, no doubt. (Shiraz is the Persian/Steakhouse restaurant adjacent to Tailgate and owned by the same person, I believe.) Â You can't beat the $7.50 price tag for the almost-as-good-as-Chicago's gyros and fries. Â They also have a nice selection of beers on tap and a HUGE menu. Â
I think the restaurant could benefit from a good mopping to dilute the stale beer smell, but all in all, it's a comfortable family hang out that we'll visit again!
I'll be the first to admit that I probably spend too much time drinking tall glasses of cheap beer and short glasses of Rumple Minze at places like the Tailgate. Â Those facts notwithstanding, the Tailgate is a great place for what it is - a non-corporate bar with good service, good food, good TV's, and GREAT people watching.
The guy from Maple Grove who said that this is a locals bar is partially correct...there is a unique clientele you might not find in Maple Grove (see: not everyone in the bar is white and dressed in button up shirts with HID badges attached to the pocket). Â As long as you don't like the crap shacks in Maple Grove that try to sell you branded polo shirts and deserts like a vacuum cleaner salesman from the 50's, the Tailgate will be just fine for you. Â If, of course, you like the GraniteCity/RubyTuesdays/Applebees/Boston's/ÂHoulihan's experience, then stay the hell out of Minneapolis.
Personally, I like to throw a pair of shorts and a t-shirt on and head to a local bar with some local flavor, and the Tailgate excels in this area. Â The burgers and hoagies are the best menu items, and they have upgraded their fries recently from small bits of cardboard to palatable salty potato products, so that is a plus. Â Monday night is "Wing Night" ($0.35 apiece) and is definitely a highlight. Â Not only are the wings in the 80th-90th percentile around town, but Wing Night seems to draw out the vampires, hood rats, goofballs, and crazy people, which makes the evening that much more entertaining.
The jukebox is good and reasonably priced, and there are about 20 TVs in bar to watch sporting events. Â Next door houses "Shiraz", some Mediterranean place (I think). Â Frankly, I've never been in it since it seemed easier to get drunk on the Tailgate side. Â Don't mess with success, right? Â
Late night happy hour (10-midnight, I think?) will get you 2-4-1's on domestics and rail drinks, so if you in the neighborhood late at night and you don't feel like you are drunk enough, stop by and get buzzed cheap. Â There is a large patio-type area in the back for the smokers and John Denver-types who like to be outside. Â It has good tables and a view of a large wooden fence. Â Nice.
Overall, a good place if you want something unique but strangely familiar. Â They have a large parking lot out front and street parking on the side streets. Â Don't drive drunk.
I like this place. It has unassumingly become a staple around our home. It is a typical type sports bar with all the TV's and sports memorbilia, but not over the top or too store bought. It reminds me of a Chammps or Houlihans, but with a small business feel.
I've only been at happy hour which is decent 2-4-1 and discounted appetizers. The place is always packed! The food is basic pub grub done right. I love their half-pound Washburn Burger (blue cheese & bacon).
