My experience here was horrible. Both times I tried it !. The first time I was pretty excited that they were open earlier in the am and had fresh squeezed juice. I ordered the large juice for $6 and a bean and egg taco to go with it.  Sure didn't want to make me that taco! They don't make bean and egg tacos. So I said OK give me an egg, a side of beans and some tortillas and I will make the taco. They don't sell an egg for tacos., you have to order the egg breakfast.  I ended up convincing her to assemble a bean and egg taco for something like $4 with her  visible irritation about having to do that. I thought, they aren't accommodating. Having temporarily forgotten my experience there I tried them again. This time stunned me. I ordered a large OJ and when it came time to pay it was $6.89. I handed her my debit card. She said they only allow them for $10 or more purchase. It doesn't say that on the window where it says they accept cards. I said, well what do you want me to do? I don't have any cash. She just kept repeating no card, she will have to pay the $4 if she accepts the card and she went to get the owner. He came out looking angry. This is the reason I am giving one star. Normally for a little mom and pop place I would refrain. The owner could maybe be nice to customers, maybe try to resolve the situation amicably, not this guy. He was mean. and his worker was scared of him. That makes me angry. I told him I don't have any cash and the window does not say there is a minimum for cards.  He sneered and took the OJ off the counter and threw it away, well I guess that settled it.  So yes I am a regular at my few places on Clark and yes I am accustomed to being treated like a friend and accommodated.
Review Source:This is certainly no Sabor Michoacan. The chips were stale. The salsa was bland and watery. I ordered a torta with steak and peppers. It had to be the slimmest torta ever. Seriously, so skimpy on the toppings, and the flavors were rather dull. With so many other options in the area, I won't be back.
Review Source:Lately, I have been craving tacos. Like, compulsively.
Living near a huge Mexican neighborhood, this is a craving easily satisfied. But were to go?
So many taquerias, so little time.
Anyway, I stumbled across Mi Guadalupe on my way to the gym. It's relatively new, and only had one review, but the reviewer says she's been to most of the ones along Clark so I figured I'd trust her judgement and go for it.
She did not lead me wrong. Remind me to thank her when I'm done writing this review.
The place is tiny and local. By which I mean all the other customers were Mexican and from the neighborhood, because the staff greeted them familiarly. I had three taco types, lengua de res (beef tongue), asado (marinated beef), and al pastor (spiced pork). They were gorgeous.
Simple, fresh ingredients, really flavorful meat, and what tasted like home made tortillas. The horchata was awesome as well.
The place is really cute with a mish mash, mom's kitchen kind of decor, and the staff were friendly. Also? It was spotlessly clean. Which after living and eating in New Orleans for many years, makes an impression in my book. Great city, lousy hygiene. Â
One of the waitresses, the daughter of the other waitress (I think the place is family run) it seemed, was mopping the floor when I came in, and I overheard mom reminding the kid to mop under the fridge and the prep table.
Who mops under the fridge???
Love them.
