Service not up to par and food had me hurting the next day.

On Sunday, my hubby and I went to Tequilas Cantina & Grill for the happy hour specials. I was a little nervous going to the restaurant since it was getting so many bad reviews. Needless to say, we still went and ordered a couple of mega margaritas and appetizers.  The food was delicious, service was great and the margarita was bomb! We had such a great time there, we will definitely be back with friends.

This restaurant was recently investigated by the LA Department of Health because a lot of people got very sick after eating the food over the weekend of June 15th.  The cause was NOROVIRUS (aka, vomiting and diarrhea for several days, nonstop).  How do I know this? The Department of Health collected and analyzed stool (poop) samples of sick customers.  They suspect it was contaminated tomatoes used in the salsa, but we'll never really know (i.e., it could have been someone handling food with unwashed hands).  YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

This place has great Mexican food and the service is super friendly. TV's everywhere with local sports teams. The menu keeps improving since the new owners took over about a year ago. The enchiladas have shredded meat of your choice and different sauces to choose from. The chili colorado is always good. Make sure and order the grilled veggies. Would give it 5 stars but on occasion the place can get really loud if big parties come in.

I am a regular of this place. I ate there today and I was very impressed with how they redecorated the interior. For those reading this is an exceptional place to eat. The food, beverages, and deserts are all delicious at very affordable and reasonable prices. This does not even include specials that they have like their happy hour or margarita mondays, which make the prices very cheap for what you get. I've had only good experiences with the staff, who are attentive, friendly, and take care of you.

For those that are thinking about trying this place out, Don't read into what others have to say. Come and eat here yourself, you will not regret it.

This place was great! Amazing happy hour and very friendly staff. Seafood burrito was on point. The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars was cause the taquitos  on the sampler were inedible. I will be returning, and asking to sub the taquitos.

Friday night (6/14/13) was the first time I ate at this restaurant. My friends had been here a few times before. I had a veg burrito, which was really not good. I only ate a few bites of that and the refried beans. I also had a margarita, which tasted fine, and the salsa, which tasted good. 24 hours later, I woke up in the middle of the night exploding from both ends. At first, I thought it was something I had eaten on Saturday, but when I called my friend asking for help (since I couldn't very well go out to get myself electrolyte-infused water and ginger ale, and my SO is out of town), I found out she was experiencing the same symptoms and that they had also started about 24 hours after we ate here. Suffice it to say, I'm never setting foot in this place again. Really not worth the risk. I've been in bed for 2 1/2 days with this thing and am finally starting to feel like I might be able to walk down the street without passing out or crapping my pants.

If it had just been a blah burrito, I wouldn't have bothered with a review, but food contamination is a very serious and entirely preventable issue.

I felt it necessary to write a review from our dining experience here the other night. We came for a graduation party, there were 9 of us total. The food was okay, not the best not the worst. The service started out pretty good and slowly declined. The real kicker here though is the fact that 4 out of a party of 9 became extraordinarily sick off of the food. I felt it necessary to warn future customers as I our experience. If you like risking a night of vomiting then this is the place to go.

I really enjoyed this restaurant until about 24 hours after my visit. That's when the food poisoning kicked in, and liquid started coming out both ends. It was awful. Three other people from my group got sick too.

I can tell from the other yelp reviews that isn't normal, but that other people experienced similar problems from visiting on June  14th and 15th. Hopefully this doesn't happen again, though I won't be going back to find out.

Update: I submitted a stool sample to the health department and it turns out I got the Norovirus from eating here. It was probably transmitted from dirty hands :-(

I've been here several times with a friend of mine -- they've got a pretty sweet happy hour menu.

However, we came in on Friday, (6/14), and about 24 hours later we both came down with severe food poisoning. And I'm serious about the severe part. I've never experienced any food reaction that painful or enduring. It started Saturday and lasted clear through to Monday afternoon. Clearly I'm still mad about it enough to write this review.

Note: The only common items we ate were the chips and salsa. So...my guess is the salsa.

This is just sad for me to do. But after this past weekend it's the last straw for me. As a few other yelpers have posted, I have suffered miserably from food poisoning the past few days after visiting Tequilas on Friday the 14th. It was either the margaritas or the chips and salsa that did my friend and I in. This is such a shame because I used to constantly tell people how great this place was. But this was an awful experience, couple this with the last two times I went in - once my friend was told she wasn't allowed to drink because she didn't have proper ID. She did! If the staff have been properly trained in alcohol service they would know what a government issue ID is. The second time I came here on Cinco and the food took over an hour to come out because apparently they only had 1 cook in the kitchen. That just sounds like terrible decision making to me, staff 1 cook on the day where people love to drink margaritas and Mexican food? Maybe you had someone call out? Just seems like you would have staffed more or had people on call for a busy day. So sadly tequilas, I will never be back and I will never recommend this place to anyone else. You have effectively caused me to miss days of work therefore actually making me lose money. I have contacted the department of health and reported you. I hope that you take these issues very very seriously and immediately rectify the problems.

The NEW bottom line is: please save yourself the torment and NEVER come here. It's really not worth the risk, I would never wish this sickness on anyone.

Love, love, LOVE this place!  I first discovered Tequilas over a year ago as I was driving down Magnolia Blvd and looking for a good drink. I love tequila, so when I found a restaurant named after my favorite liquor I just had to pull over!

All their margaritas are absolutely delicious.  I especially like their honeymoon margarita; it's to die for!  Tequilas' food is also amazing.  I've tried almost everything on the menu and it's all so good.  I really like this shrimp stew meal they have.  The salsa is also delicious.

My boyfriend and I recently discovered that Tequilas serves happy hour from 2-7PM everyday, so we literally come here every Saturday to get a couple drinks and a fiesta platter.

The thing I like most about this place though is the service.  Everyone is so nice and when you walk in the door they seem to be really happy you're there.  If you're in the area and want a great place to eat check this place out!

Went for a quiet lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Wonderfully friendly staff, excellent margaritas, authentic Mexican flavors, and good value for the price.  Although it was not happy hour, I notice the daily bar specials were a great price.  I will certainly return!

TALL margaritas for 4 bucks in happy hour. Great happy hour deals. Great staff. Chips and Salsa whenever you want. This place is the BOMB. went with my gf we got 4 margs, an epic happy hour sampler plate, and a salad. Used my $10 for $20 coupon from yelp and only paid $6. This place is my new favorite spot. Seriously, go here. Now. Go. Why are you reading these words still? Stand up, and drive there now.

I really liked this place! Maybe it was the ample tequila I had, or that they had multiple TVs with all the games I wanted to watch, but nevertheless the food was still pretty good. The staff is incredibly nice and friendly which really goes a long way. To me though the thing that really made this place was their margaritas...nice and strong.

I was interested in purchasing a Yelp deal at this restaurant. I called the restaurant and asked about it. The person who answered the phone was rude and made me feel stupid for asking a question. Whomever answered the phone needs to know customer service. Taking my business elsewhere. Oh and I'm not stupid by the way. I graduated with honors with a bachelor's degree. Just saying.

I was giving this place at least a 4 stars until I got my order. I ordered the chicken tostada. It was very bland and not much of a salad at all. They were extremely skimpy on chicken. My friend ordered a quesadilla it looked way better tasting then the salad!!

This was my first visit here since the change of name/ownership. First off, I felt welcome and was the same throughout my meal this evening.
My friend and I were seated right away, even though we walked in from the back parking lot. Chips and salsa hit the table soon and we were informed about the happy hour items, and ordered civeche. Yummy! A little lemon, tapatio, avocado slice, and I was happy.
I was happy with the chile relleno and carnitas taco, my friend the same with two different sopes. Thanks Tequilas!

Recently I wrote a review about a restaurant I visited on Mother's Day.  I mistakenly clicked on the similarly named Tequila's Cantina and Grill when publishing this review.  I realize that this is -not- the restaurant I dined at, and wish to apologize.  The review has found it's proper home, and I have removed it from this page.

    Apologies,

First time there today, excellent Salsa....which to me is an example that the food will be delicious as well. IT WAS!

Great Greeting and extremely good food.
Do not get this Tequilas confused with the one in Victory Blvd. they are not the same.

We certainly will be going back again and again, to try the menu out.
Today we both had the Steak Fajitas, so very good and so much meat!

EXCELLENT!!!!! Tried The Healthy Platter, DELICIOUS, going back for more.

Went to the cantina for lunch. I work tonight so it can't be a long lunch. The outside looks old but authentic. When you walk in its painted a mustard yellow. The waitress and waiter were nice. Friendly.  I practiced my Spanish with them. They gave us free chips and salsa. The salsa is a bit spicy for my liking but again that's not a problem.

We went on Cinco de Mayo, and there was a bit of a wait and huge crowds, as to be expected. The owner/manager was unfrazzled and stayed positive and friendly while playing multiple roles of host, waiter, and of course, manager (we talked to him and one of their staff had called in sick). Food was tasty, as were the drinks, and the happy hour specials were a great deal. We'll be back!

So I asked for a big margarita and I ended up with 48 oz of the BEST margarita EVER and at such an incredibly LOW price. I was actually shocked when the GIANT margarita wasn't $20 in fact I'm not sure it was even$10. I got a burrito is was okay not great but okay. I will be back though! The staff was AMAZING so friendly and they all made my friend and I feel welcome.

    YAY

I have to say, the food was good and the service was excellent. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is that the prices seem a bit high. Figure the average dish is about $11, and $14 for a margarita seems more West Hollywood than Burbank. I could see it if the decor was super high end or there was a beautiful patio with a DJ but not for your standard family Mexican spot. That being said, I'll probably be back.

Top Notch Margaritas!! You won't regret coming to Tequilas ...

I just moved from Dallas, Texas( home of Mexican food and margaritas) and was going cray cray looking for a good cantina with a decent happy hour ! I needed a place I can call my own.

The chips and salsa are served hot and crisp. Hot chips !? What! I was in heaven and proceeded to devour 5 bowls just by myself .

The regular " on the rocks" margaritas are just $4 at happy hour and they are large sized and strong. You get more than your money's worth!

The bartender , Marco, will take care of you . He makes a solid drink. Nothing to lose :) The TVs are mega sized and are everywhere , so you can watch the game and drink...I mean and eat ;)
I meant to stay for a quick drink but was there for hours partying unintentionally!

I ordered the guacamole and taquitos and was pleased with the taste.
I live right near here and this will be my go-to place for Mexican food and great margaritas !

I met the owner Carlos and just loved him!!!

Happy Hour is where its at!  And they have it every day of the week.  Whats not to love?

Me, Aaron P. and his GF came by around 6 on a Saturday (Happy Hour ends at 7).  This was the last stop on a long day of pub crawling.   We each ordered a Margarita, which are served in pint glasses.  We also ordered a sampler platter and a plate of chicken wings.  $5 for the chicken wings, cant really go wrong.  The margaritas were a bit sour but man were they strong.  The sampler platter was pretty good, had quesadillas, taquitos, wings, chips, guac.  A pretty standard sampler.

After a few more margaritas I was thoroughly buzzed.   Once the bill came around it was only around $25 for two appetizers, and maybe 5 margaritas.

    WE WILL BE COMING BACK!

So my gilrlfriend and I were out that way after shopping at Costco. We decided we wanted to try something different on Monday Night, we usually go to Barragans, or Joselito's on Monday nights since they have $1 Tacos.  We found a YELP deal $10 for $20 and we were sold. They have a Margarita Monday special $2.49 for the Margarita's. To make a long story shot- The Margarita's were like drinking a slurpee at 7-11, no alcohol and the Tacos had a shell that looked like it was store bought, not authentic at all. I felt like i was ordering a taco from Taco Bell. I must say they were some of the worst Taco's i've ever eaten..
All in all the place seems nice inside and they do have lot's of televisions if you are a sports fan. The drinks I'm sure are stronger when they are not on special but this is not a place I would come back to for the food. I'm sorry just being honest.

Good Mexican Food Option in Burbank / North Hollywood

The have happy hour, Yelp deals (I got one, $10 for $20), full bar, great service, plenty of TV's with sports on, guitar player and mariachi band at night (or at least weekend nights).

The menu has plenty of options. Me and the young lady went with the Steak Fajitas plate and Carne Asada plate. Solid and well marinated meat with good rice and beans. Both plates were big and very fresh. We also got the margaritas, money.

I really like how clean and new looking this place is.

The awesome: $0.99 taco Tuesdays; $10 happy hour specials on strong, tasty 48-oz margaritas and 3-shot, top-shelf tequila flights; perfectly piquant salsas; fresh, yummy, plentiful  tortilla chips; a kitchen that happily accommodates my finicky vegan ways; generous staff who remember my husband and me, and who, from our first visit, treated us like VIPs. That includes the odd comp! And, though this is only really a perk for me, I do enjoy the fact that the place is a lovely 15-minute walk along Magnolia from our apartment. It means I don't have to worry about getting sloshed on the aforementioned bathtub margaritas.

The meh: my husband isn't a fan of some of their taco meats. He does, however, enjoy the beef. Personally, my only quibble is that most dishes must be ordered with a side of guac if you want to sidestep the cheese/sour cream but still have some creamy fattiness. I know this is the usual thing, but I do so wish that more places would adopt the Chipotle model whereby you can add a dollop of guac if you're leaving off all the other pricey ingredients.

The bad: I can't think of a single one!

I love this place. My husband and I go often and enjoy it every time.

I had read all the reviews for Tequilas Catina, and was not impressed. Yet after reading further I saw that this was under new management and maybe it was time to give it a try for myself.  Last night the fella and I had another one of those where are we going for dinner tonight? This was only after I discovered our steaks were still in need of defrosting.

I Had a major craving for tacos, and the fella can't get enough Mexican food: it's the equivalent to candy for him. So instead of going to the same old place on Riverside Drive we decided to try out this place. It is about four blocks or so from the house, we could have walked, but did not. There is plenty of street parking, without parking restrictions. Which means you can post up for awhile and not worry about your car being towed or ticketed if you go over the time limit by even just a millisecond.

We decided to sit in the bar area, I feel like service is generally better in the bar areas because you're mostly right in their face, i.e. hard to ignore. The bar at Tequilas is super tiny. As in so tiny that if if every seat is taken the wait staff can not squeeze through. It was this packed last night. On to the good stuff.

The Margaritas located on the back side of the menu are a bit steep, $14, but after ordering and watching Isaac assemble the honeymoon margarita I totally understood. The margaritas are served in large glass goblets the size of a cereal bowl. Lets talk Tequila, premiums and heavy pours. I only could finish one, and usually I can drink a lot. My fella had a plain Margarita that he said was quite delicious, as well as about a third of the price.

The menu features some things I rarely see on many menus in this country. If I do find these items and try them it usually is not as good as traveling and really eating authentically. Anyhow, I saw that tequilas offers a dish called a Molcajete. I got so excited and maybe a little loud. The fella ordered fajitas, his usual order when we frequent a Mexican restaurant. Neither one of us was disappointed in our choice.

My Molcajete was beautiful, and tasted just as wonderful. A molcajete is a large stone bowl, think of a mortar, just much larger. They fill this hot stone or rock bowl with meat, peppers, cheese, and an orange sauce with fantastic flavor. I enjoyed every bite of my meal, I don't think the fella and I spoke much; driving that point home. My fellas fijatas looked and smelled terrific. The portions are massive and upon reflection we more than likely could have split something.

The service was great, Isaac was amazingly attentive without being too involved or hovering. And boy can he make one hell of a drink. He informed us that one night a week they have a special on their margaritas, $2.50 all day long. I wish I could remember what he said, so as to pass that information on the fellow yelpers.

I definitely will be back in the future. I can't wait to try the chimichangas and some of the other items that I toyed with ordering before I saw the molcajete.

Stop on in and if you don't agree with what I said here, there is always Joe's across the street. Be careful of that place though. ;-)
