Oh man, what a great place! I was here for a residency interview and I had a blast. First off, the free popcorn is a fantastic touch and could easily serve as an appetizer. As for their appetizers, the jalapeno poppers are pretty amazing and the nachos are awesome as well. I got a brisket meal for my entre and it was sooooo good. The BBQ sauce is very, very good and the meat was perfectly tender. They also have a pretty good selection of beer (especially local stuff) and will let you sample the draft beers before you buy. All in all, it's a great place and I would definitely stop by again if I'm in the area again.
Review Source:Rounding up on this.
I still like Hill Country in NYC, and have yet to go to Fette Sau in BKLN. I've been a HUGE fan of John Brown's in LIC, but they disappointed last time when I visited them in their new digs. We have Smokin' with Chris in Southington, which does the job locally.
The ambiance here is great. I was here for lunch on a MON, but it feels as a BBQ joint should; largish place, one side the restaurant and large bar with many different flavors of beer and booze; those tables and booths are open to the other side, tables but also a music stage is set up.
We tried the burnt ends, wings (Buffalo), beef brisket and St Louis ribs.
Wings were good, large, meaty, cooked but still juicy. Sauce was good. Burnt ends, tho, were a bit different from what I've gotten at other places. I'd always had them as a jumble of the tips in sauce, sometimes giving a bit of crusty resistance, kind of an afterthought. But these are decidedly a dish, much more formal.
St Louis ribs were good. Pretty tender,
Took the corn bread home, but on some butter and a touch of chili powder and they were very edible.
Baked beans are good; I'd get them again. There are only about other places I'd get beans and this joins 'em. Slaw, I'm still spoiled by John Brown's vinegar slaw, kinda like mom used to make; this is a creamy slaw. Mac and cheese was tasty.
Service was friendly, attentive, without being too much so. Was greeted by servers, bartender, and manager (?) as I waited for my lunch companion.
All in all, really good place, and would like to go to see how is the music, and sample the bourbons. The place itself brings up the score moreso than many other BBQ joints. Â As far as the food, I'll probably stay more local when in need of Q; that said, I look forward to the next visit when I'm there for whatever reason.
NOTE: pricing is just the food, if you get normal portions. I tend to like to take home, and perhaps enjoy some bevies; those who go that route will find things easily north of u$30.
Good for kids... afternoons and early evenings.
Am guessing its good for dancing; there is room for it between band setup and the tables.
