You win some you lose some.
We came after finding La Cuicad full and wanting to find a place in walking distance, preferable BYOB. Whip out the trusty Yelp apps which brought us to Tolotzin.

It was Saturday night and dead. There was a table of 2 women who quickly left and the lone servers bf/husband (?) who was keeping her company the whole evening. Very eerie and unnerving. I chalk it partially up to location-the weird stretch of Broadway in Uptown. Reading the other 32 reviews (1 of the reviews is for an higher end Italian place w a patio on this listing so I'm not counting it) I see it's dead daily.

The service was well meaning, but amateurish. She couldn't really answer our questions about the menu- everything "was a favorite." She would bus stuff from the table without asking if she could take it... A bit annoying....but she was nice.

The complimentary chips and salsa may have been their standout.

    We ordered:
Three taco sampler platter with al pastor, strip steak and some other meat. With beans and rice
He ate it all, but didn't seem that wowed.

Chicken Fajitas in sizzling skillet with peppers and onions and cilantro. Tomato, lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, and rice and beans were on the side.
The chicken was ok quality, but I felt the skillet contents were too greasy. The beans were good, not too bland. The rice tasted like it was cooked and re-heated. The rice was hard. It came w corn tortillas.

I would say this is a skip it. It's just too dead and the food was mundane.

Partner and I stopped for a quick cheap lunch after spending too much at the AT&T store accross the street. The burrito pastor was very good and a very good luch special. Partner had the mole and liked it as well. The service was very quick and very friendly. The space is clean and convenient. It's definitely a dining destination to consider when one is doing business at Target or other Wilson Yard businesses.

Went in for take out this past Friday night. The place was empty, except for a guy selling hair care products to one of the owners. Can't figure that out, the place is well appointed, not as fancy as La Ciudad, but not a dump by any means.

I found the al pastor to be more like carnitas or roast pork, not like the usual offering off the spit. So good! Bursting with flavor. The tortillas were also fantastic. Salsa was good, both red and green.

I'd definitely go back, especially to get that great food in a quiet, empty restaurant. I hope they stay open!
