Oh someone help me!!!
I remember this place back between 1997-2004. Don't know where the "Pup In The Ruf" came from, wasn't ever called that as far as I can remember. Must be something from recently. Â It was the place to get dinner on Friday evening when we wanted good food quickly, something in walking distance, and lots of food for the money spent. I remember a many Friday evening in the Summers when I didnt have to fly that we'd spare ourselves the heat from the kitchen and grill.
Greezy spoon? Most definitely!! Cry if they ever closed? Absolutely!!
Some of the best food comes from greezy joints!!
I have had EVERYTHING on their menu at least once. I would be like a child all over again when I go in there because I can't decide what I want.
But what I CAN tell you, is that you can have food "your way". I ordered a double cheeseburger with extra buttered buns, extra onions, pickles, cheese, lettuce bacon and mayo...it was a drenching greezy mess!! He even offered to give me a cup of mayo if that wasn't enough....coronary in a cup y'all!! Â But that's one of those moments when all you think about is sitting down on your sofa with a cold drink and chowing down.
The fries are BETTER than McDonald's to me. If you want something to snack on that isn't a lot food, that could do it.
The fried chicken is off the chain!! It's not dry, but really juicy. And the ice cream shakes are just THAT good.
If you live too far away for delivery and you have to do a pick up, make sure the order is ready. Kinda hard to find a good parking space in the area when you may have to double park.
I give the owners so much credit, for being in the same location for umteen years!! A great staple of the neighborhood. And the fact that he's open late means you can easily get food without spending a lot.
Jakes is the place, for all of our sakes.
So this is one of those hole in the wall places that has a huge menu of items, mostly american fast food kind of stuff at really reasonable prices, and ALL far more satisfying than your chain type places, but there are few things here at Jake's that are worth checking out - my roommate is a huge fan of the Sophie Special, a double cheeseburger with fries included, and personally for CHEAP fried chicken I don't think you can do much better, it's greasy (but not KFC greasy and oily to the point of being a turn off), crispy, and deliciously seasoned.
