A great place to come for fantastic, no frills, and fresh tasting sushi. They serve the classic maki and nigiri and not the over sauced stuff you find in lakeview. It's operated by a brother (chef) and sister (waitress). The sister is amazingly friendly and helpful. This place is also a BYOB.
Review Source:I was happy to see a new sushi place open in my neighborhood so my girlfriend and I gave it a try. The prices were very fair, the location is convenient, the atmosphere was modern and clean, and most importantly the food was great! They had no take home menus at the time, but next time I try it I'll try and snap a photo of their menu to give everyone any idea of what to expect.
Review Source:I had a friend in town and we were both craving sushi. I located Taketei on Yelp and couldn't help be impressed by its numerous positive reviews.
We had a party to attend on Saturday night, so we arrived for dinner at 6 pm (earlier than my usual) and the place was totally empty aside from the staff. It's a tiny place to begin with, but having the whole place to ourselves was kind of fun. The decor is sleek and modern, so it's a really cute space.
We started with the sashimi appetizer (the chef's selection of 5 fresh options). Everything tasted clean and delicious. It was a great start.
We decided to order 3 specialty rolls between the two of us. This ended up being basically the perfect amount of food for 3 people. All 3 were also very tasty. My only criticism is that the rolls were slightly loose and were falling apart when being picked up with the chopsticks. Otherwise they were deliciously complex.
I will definitely return, but I am eager to try some of their traditional rolls as I think the fish/seafood would likely be able to stand on their own without all the bells and whistles.
Give this place a chance.
