My husband and I tried several dishes from this casual Thai restaurant. The wait in line for the cashier was long because there were many customers and not many cooks. They have appetizers (e.g., satay, spring rolls), soups (e.g., wonton), basil and cashew entrees, noodles, fried rice, curry, etc. The food was good but did not impress.

Food: for stars, the last star is for service. I think this place deserves a good reading cuz i always leave the place full and happy. I really like their papaya salad and also i LOVE their drunken noodles. I have tried drunken noodles at so many places and they never made it the way i like. We also tried their duck on fire, the sauce is good but the meat is just a bit dry. But i like this place overall. I love trying out new places so i almost never come back to get food from the same places, unless they have really good food. I'm surprised that this is one of the places that I've eaten a few times here :)

Went here using a Specialicious coupon and I'll happily go back. Larb gai ($6) was delicious, as were the chicken panang curry ($12 for dinner) and jasmine tea. The atmosphere is very quiet and serene, quite a surprise, coming in from the K-Mart shopping plaza. Service was fast & friendly. My only complaint is that when a server says "would you like more xxx?" and it's not free, I'd like them to mention that the extra does cost extra. Maybe it's awkward to say "extra rice is only a dollar - would you like some more?" but I hate seeing little extras on the bill that I wasn't expecting, even if it's only a dollar.

Tommy Thai delivery (through grubhub) is my go-to lazy-stay-in-hotel-room-and-work delivery choice. The portions are huge and they allow you to customize your meal with additional toppings and comments about how you want your dishes prepared.

My typical delivery includes a pad thai (with extra veggies, extra shrimps, and LOTS OF LEMON/LIME/LEMONJUICE -- I like my pad thai extra sour), a thai iced tea, and something random to tip my order over the $20 scale so I can get free delivery.

The pad thai here is better than at most other VA places I've tried (still incomparable to most CA places though!). I haven't tried any other menu items, so I can't say how this place stands as a whole compared to other Thai places in the area...but I doubt you can go wrong with the typical Thai dishes on their delivery menu.

Tip: the delivery radius is small - so check before you order!

I've been to Tommy Thai a few times for both lunch and dinner and have yet to be disappointed. Food is great, restaurant is clean and service is fast and friendly =) I would definitely recommend.

The Tom Yum chicken soup was the best I've had anywhere!

    WORST THAI I'VE EVER HAD.

I only went there because I had a Specialicious deal with my parents.  It was only our table of 3 and a couple in the entire restaurant on a Weds night.  Our three entrees took over half an hour to bring out, and the two servers did not come by our table ONCE since we had ordered our food.  Then when we received our entrees, they did not even taste took.  I had the Shrimp Pad Thai and it was bland and the shrimp was poor quality.  My dad ordered the Spicy Basil Fried Rice and the rice kernels were still RAW and hard.  He didn't mention anything, but at the end of the meal when we asked to box up his uneaten food, my mom had mentioned to our server that his food was not cooked all the way, and our server decided to respond with an attitude and say "what do you mean? its FRIED rice" while giving my mother a look like she was stupid.  I have never been so offended and disappointed with a meal before that it made me want to make an account on Yelp just to share this with you all.  I love Thai food and have been to many Thai restaurants.  This by far had the worst Thai food I've had, and that doesn't even factor in the horrible service.  Please do not go here, if you want great Thai food, go to Rice and Noodles off Franconia Rd in Springfield - they have better prices, food, and service.

Best Veggie Pad Thai I've ever had. I went here on a living social deal with a friend with and I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for really good Thai in South Fairfax (Lorton, Springfield, VA).

I'm really not a fan. I only went here because: I got off of work late, already late for a dinner date with my cousin who loves good food as equally as I do, and we got lost trying to find a new place we were dieing to try and landed here because it was too late and we were so hungry. Already off to a bad start.

The service was fine, that wasn't the issue. The lack of options and very Americanized Thai menu was the problem. Just to be on the safe side, we ordered Pad Thai and something else so unmemorable that it has escaped my mind after only a week of visiting this okay place.

They didn't have any variety whatsoever! The food came out alright. For some weird reason, they have the same or higher prices than dozens of better, more authentic Thai restaurants within a 20 mile radius.

Honestly, I wouldn't even go here again if they gave me a free dinner. Sorry, me no likey.

i've been here a couple of times now.  I had the chicken panang this week and it was tasty.  The spring roll appetizer was very good as well.  I took some friends here and they became fans as well. My favorite part of this restaurant is the attentive waitstaff.  It seems that somebody is always coming by to check on water, food, smile and say hi.  Really enjoyable and I'll be back when i'm in the area.

I've been here twice but have only had the Pad Thai because it always turns out excellent! I've seen the curries walking by and they look and smell delicious so I'll force myself to get one next time.

They are very nice and attentive and I like the decor on the inside. It's also nice and cool which is good on a hot day/eating spicy food.

Love this place.  Best Thai going in the Springfield/Burke area.  Though I have heard that the former owner of Cajun Bangkok opened a place in an industrial park in Alexandria/Newington that is quite tasty.  Anyhow, I digress...I've had multiple dishes here and they are all great.  The prices are reasonable for lunch and dinner.  Service is always pleasant and accurate.  No reason to go anywhere else.  Tommy Thai!

We dine here weekly.  That has to tell you something!  The service is friendly and attentive, and the food is always fresh.  They go out of their way to accommodate any requests I have for variations on dishes.  The pad thai is delicious, but so are the curry dishes.  My husband particularly likes the lamb chops.  I usually get the heart-healthy garden seafood.

Found metal bit of trash in my pad thai, manager was rude when I complained. The food tasted good, but you're probably better off at one of the many other nearby thai restaraunts.

Happened to find this restaurant via my iPad app, GrubHub, tonight. Very tasty green curry chicken entree with spring rolls, mango with sticky rice for dessert, and all with very prompt delivery. It's not often I've found a Thai place that delivers.

The funny thing about Northern Virginia is how you can find great places in shopping plazas. Nestled in the crook between KMart and a religious bookstore you will find a great Thai restaurant. A roomy space that allows comfort but the acoustics are good enough that you can hear everyone at the table. I'm a picky eater, but I loved my Crying Tiger steak! I even ate all my vegetables. Yummy food, great lounge ambiance! Just have to navigate the plazas.

I've driven by Tommy Thai a few times previously and never really noticed a lunch crowd, which kept me away. But I decided to give it a shot this afternoon, and while it was no where near the quality of my regular Thai restaurants like Thai Square or Crystal Thai, it wasn't bad at all and I will probably come back to try different dishes. And come on, it's Springfield- I'm not expecting a mind blowing experience here.

Papaya Salad (sauce on the side)- it was decent and had all the typical ingredients like julienne papaya, green beans, peanuts tomato, and small lettuce leaves at the bottom. The chili fish sauce was spicy, but was saltier than I'm used to, I would personally add more sugar and lemon juice to my mixture.

Pad See Ew with Beef- it was bland and I wished I had ordered something else. The noodles looked like they went through a grinder in the wok, they used American broccoli instead of Chinese, and the soy sauce was lacking flavor.

So if you're gonna go here for Thai, come in with realistic expectations that you aren't going to have amazing food, and you will be fine.  I hope to update this review when I come back to try something else like a curry or the pad thai. You know a place is sucks if they jack up a pad thai.

Standard, Americanized Thai food.  I had panang chicken and the waitstaff kept the water glass full.  Decor is meh.

This is good for a quick, informal eat - not a locale to frequent if you're trying to make a good first impression on someone.

We came.... we ate.. 2 appetizers Thai Dumplings and the Siracha Shrimp 2 entrees Basil Chicken and Chipotle Thai Chicken... we saw... we paid for the bill... we left...

The food was pretty good NOT as good as other Thai joints we have had but pretty good.  I wasn't overly impressed with the Chipotle Thai dish we had, the sauce was a bit oily and bland could have used something sweet in it.  The Basil Chicken was very good fresh, tasty, right portion size and well plated.

Appetizers were above average the Dumplings were good and packed with flavor but the Siracha Shrimp didn't bring the heat like I expected.

Overall the service was OK and the foodwas just OK but not a meal I would regret.

I've been here countless times. I love the food. The menu isn't as extensive as some other restaurants but what they do have all tastes delicious. The servers are friendly, the Thai tea is just the right amount of sweetness, & they remember their returning customers well.

It's definitely the best Thai restaurant in this area. If you feel like venturing a little farther, visit the Thai restaurant on N. Beauregard, it's called llusions. Food is extra tasty. It's next to a Blockbusters & Subway in a small shopping center.

This place is awesome!! but totally hidden. Ambiance is very "lounge" like, without the loud obnoxious music. its been around for a few years. The menu is small, but for good reason - they're good at what they do. Dont expect the extensive page after page like at other thai places. The dishes on the menu are superb. I've tried a lot of the items on the menu and I have yet to be disappointed.

Recommend: Homemade siracha shrimp, and chicken pad see ew.

Honorable mentions: chipotle (yes, chipotle) chicken and the panang curry

I was going to give this a three star A-Ok! review. But as i sat here, mouse hovering over my starred choices, I realized that I couldn't quite remember why I thought it was A-ok in the first place. Instead, I'm forced to go for Meh, I've had better. Because I have had better.

Stumbled in here with two friends after our awesome mani/pedis next door at Oh! Nails. The atmosphere is nice (as has been mentioned), but the food was just okay and the service was unbelievably slow. I was enjoying a relaxing lunch with friends at noon on a Saturday so it worked ok for me. But I've rarely been to a Thai Place that didn't produce a piping hot plate in under ten minutes. We waited over 30 minutes (40 minutes?). I can't be exactly sure of the timing but what I do know is that we had an appetizer and our meals and were there over an hour and a half. When they sat the three of us, we were the only people in there. When we left there were one, maybe two, other tables seated. It shouldn't have taken that long.

I love me some veggie pad thai, and theirs was nothing to write home about. The green papaya salad was really good. The friend's beef pad see ew I had a bite of was okay, but on the greasy side. My lovely friends generously donated the table's leftovers for me to bring home to my starving husband. His verdict: It filled him up but was greasy and kind of meh. Not enough to make him want to go back.

    Sorry, Charlie. I mean Tommy.

    Decor - Looks like a euro/American lounge

The servers are good and the drinks are good.

Food - Very flavorful only thing is the plate was a little spicy even for me to handle.  That is OK next time I'll ask them to make it mild....

Visited on a Thursday night, around 8:30 and the place was nearly empty.   Service was really friendly.  As others have mentioned, the decor is trendy and the music gives it a lounge-y feel.   I definitely liked the atmosphere.

The food was OK.  I would not rush back here, but I would eat here if someone wanted to.  The chicken satay was good - very tender & moist.   Shrimp fried rice was very good too.   However, the vegetable pad Thai was not good.  Veggies appeared to be either frozen or canned, and were not warm, though the rest of the dish was fine, temperature wise.  I just did not find this dish to have much flavor.   Portions are huge and dinner prices were in-line with what I am used to.

Looks more upscale than the food demands.  Certain cuisines don't do so well with the bar/gastro/trendy treatment, I think Thai is one of those.  That said, I get the feeling this place might do a tasty and affordable lunch.  It might be better off catering to that crowd, and forget about creating a hip atmosphere in a strip mall.   The food itself is American/Thai, with certain twists on old favorites.  The spiciness factor is certainly on the Thai side, and just right.  I did find the quality of the seafood and (frozen) dumplings wanting.

Disclaimer: Take-out and First visit - I usually get my Thai from TK Thai or House of Siam in Brookfield Plaza. Note that the prices here are a few dollars more than the average in the area (though not unreasonable for the servings)

The decor is very nice. This place is obviously trying to be a bit more "upscale' for the usual Springfield decor. Nice, full bar with LCD TV, friendly staff, Tommy was tending bar and waiting tables while I had a beer and waited for my food.

I only tried two dishes tonight - and probably should have asked for the alluded to "Thai Menu". The Traditional Tom Yum Soup (w/ chicken) was really delicious. A rich, creamy, base. Mushrooms, scallions, tender chicken... at $5 it was a great value.

I was a bit uncertain of the rest of the menu. There was quite a bit of "thai fusion" - so, I deceided I should try a fusion dish and opted for the Five Spice Braised Pork with Chinese Broccolli. Unfortunately, the dish was a bit of disappointment.

The pork was fairly well seasoned and very tender. However, it had huge strips of flavorless fat. I know that the fat is traditional (esp. in many Chinese and Asian influenced dishes) but for a braised dish it hadn't picked up any of usual intense flavors of the described cooking method.

The Chinese Broccoli was a bit blah and over cooked and the "other" vegetables were also a bit over done - there was also the random, strange, very crunchy snow pea pod thrown in. The final puzzler were the slightly marinated hard-boiled eggs thrown into the dish on the sides.

The five spice flavor was a bit overwhelming and overall the dish tasted like a poorly executed Chinese dish. If I wanted great Chinese I could have gone next door to the very good and very traditional Canton Cafe.

I'm still marking this place as  A-ok because I need to return and have a sit down dining experience before passing final judgement. Plus, Tommy and the staff were exceptionally nice and all smiles. However, next time I'll ask for the "Thai menu"... I'll be back at some point.

A hip, trendy restaurant/lounge tucked away in a Springfield strip mall. Dimly lit, huge booths, and a mix of American and Thai influences in both the decor and menu.

Went for dinner tonight while getting a flat tire changed at the Sears right around the corner. I only saw one menu, which I assume was the fusion menu.

Ordered the dumplings, drunken noodles, and see ew. Dumplings were presented beautifully, with small shrimp sprouting from their tops. Served with a savory and tasty sauce that I've never had before. The drunken noodles were medium spicy with fresh tomatoes and peppers. Would get them again. The se ew was good, but nothing special.

Would recommend for an intimate dinner, a drink, or a date. Big, loud groups really ruin the atmosphere. I will definitely be back to try more of the menu. A great find in Springfield.

Had lunch here today and it was super good.  The owner has ten years experience in restaurants and has a great menu and setup here.

I had spring rolls that came out in a nice presentation.  Fab dipping sauce that I have not had anywhere else.  Drunken noodles were plentiful and the price for both with tip was $14.00

This place has outdoor dining and it is right next door to Hard Times Chili Cafe.  Located in the weirdness that is Springfield Plaza (KMart, Trader Joes, Wachovia Bank etc)

Definitely give this guy a try-his food is really good and he has a great banquet room at no extra charge for groups.

Mon-Fri is half price wine by the glass and beer on tap from 4-6PM

During mid-2009, we dined several times at the modern looking Tommy Thai restaurant, finding the food often extremely good especially the spicy tom yum and drunken noodles.  These two dishes are outstanding, even better than the same dishes at Rabieng in Falls Church.   The Thai lamb chops had an extremely good chili sauce, tasty asparagus, and tender lamb, however the lamb was a bit overcooked and the rosemary potatoes were undercooked.  The Tommy Thai servers provide polite prompt service and their entree prices range from $8-$17 for lunch and $11 - $17 for dinner.

    Highlights include:
*Excellent Tom Yum and Drunken Noodles - Spicy and great!
*Spicy Basil with Beef - Basil is actually crispy and the sauce is great.
*Green Curry - Extremely good sauce

    Low Points:
*Thai Pesto Seafood - My wife found the sauce plain and almost bitter, but my father-in-law found it quite good.
*Crispy pork - rather plain sauce with deep fried pork.

I was surprised when I walked in...in a good way!  Nice decor/interior, unlike many other restaurants in strip malls.  Very tastefully decorated.

They had two menus, a "traditional" thai menu and another menu similar to what most people would expect from a thai restuarant.  They of course had the typical drunken noodles, pad thai, etc.  I ordered drunken noodles and my sister ordered Thai chicken chipotle.  I tasted both, and they were both of good quality.  Not the best drunken noodles I've had, but good nonetheless.  Although the thai chicken chipotle had 5 spice stars (the most on the menu), it really was not all that spicy if you are used to spices.

Also, the service was great!!  Very friendly waiter and I never had to ask for a refill on my drink...or even think about asking.  He was right on top of everything.

The food is great, the mod-deco is, well "mod deco" - what cna you do.  They offer two menu's.  the traditional one and the "fusion" menu where you'll see some of the more "American-ized" dishes you'd expect.  The other day was our second visit.  Frankly the 1st one was more impressive, but I think it was just that the 2nd time there was a large group there, and they detracted from the atmosphere.

    Food: Trendy fusion; small portions.
Ordered fried calamari, seafood drunk noodles, crispy flounder.

The calamari had a nice batter, cooked well, crispy and tender.
The seafood drunken noodles was cooked well but small portions.  A little heavy on the sauce.
The flounder was a disappointment.  We asked about serving and if it could feed three grown people.  Came out about 1/4 inch thick (fried) and HEAVY on the sauce... No marriage of ingredients here.

Service: good but our server did not know the menu.  Asked several questions in regards to portion and ingredients...

Price: Not bad considering the decor, decent service and portions.

Sadly, this is one of the best in Springfield...

Good food at a reasonable price.

My husband noticed Tommy Thai last week when he was at the Trader Joe's on the other side of the mall.  We wanted to find a fun, relatively inexpensive place to meet our friends for dinner this evening, and Tommy Thai was a good choice.

We were greeted immediately upon entering, and were shown to our table by Tommy himself.  Tommy was our waiter for the evening, and was quick with some recommendations, and mentioned to us that there was the regular menu with a number of fusion dishes and a more traditional menu if we were interested.  We chose to look at both menus, and ended up ordering from both.

The Siracha Shrimp appetizer was VERY tasty.  The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the sauce, a combination of homemade siracha sauce, mint, scallions, red onions, salt, and maybe some other spices,  was very tasty.

My Drunken Noodles were very tasty.  I especially appreciated the fact that they didn't try to beef up the plate by putting lettuce underneath the noodles.  There is nothing grosser than wilted lettuce under noodles.  It is twice as gross when you try  to reheat the leftovers the next day.  Hubs had one of the seafood soups from the traditional menu (Larb Nam maybe?) he says that it was very good.

Tommy asked if we would like to have a spice tray to adjust the flavor of our dishes.  I appreciated the offer (many places don't seem to want you to have control over the flavor and don't offer) and we accepted, though it wasn't really necessary.  My dish was medium spicy - exactly as I asked for.  Everyone said their food was great, and we were so intent on eating that we didn't really do much in the way of sharing. :)  I'll have to take their word for it.

Overall, I was really pleased with the food.  The service (from all of the staff) was good, and the ambiance was nice as well.  Not too fussy, pretty spare but tastefully decorated.  We'll definitely visit again.

I really enjoy Thai food and was excited to try this place. I ordered the Drunken Noodles with beef (my fav. dish) and it was really good! Although, it's slightly more expensive by about a dollar or two than TK's Thai, I think you get a lot more "bang for your buck". The restaurant itself is very pretty on the inside and you can tell the owners are going for that "upscale" look. Unique tables and a dim light setting really add to the restaurant.
    Sweet bar too.

I would go again for sure.

    Carry out and dine-in.
