So. Freaking. Good. Â
I had no idea what a torta was... and now i know it means YUM.
Its like a delicious warm sandwich bomb. Â MMMMMMmmmmmmm
and Steve's awesome (the owner) Â
I live right around the corner from their shop, but i've also caught their food truck at Hogshead brewery on a Saturday. Â Getcha some!
The Torta Especial is the most delicious meat apocalypse on a bun in Denver! All of their tortas are top notch: I'm also a fan of The Carlito. Their fresh juices and fruit cocktails are equally tasty (their cucumber lemonade is perfect for washing down one of their sandwiches). It's not unusual for me to eat 3 of their tortas in a week. BONUS: they will deliver their gigante sandwiches to your house! This is a dangerous luxury for a man of my appetite and laziness. I may have to pick one up on the way home today...
Review Source:Millions of these are served every day in Central Mexico; it is their Sub sandwich, Hero, Grinder, etc. Â All tortas start out with a flat bread, loaded with mashed frijoles, avocado, lettuce, and tomato. Â I recommend carnitas (fried pork) and anything else you wanna throw in there. Â The couple, an American and a Mexican, who own and run the small restaurant are very friendly and helpful. Â You MUST accompany your torta with a fresh fruit drink. Â For hot weather, the Cucumber Lemonade is THE most thirst-quenching drink, bar none!
Before you go, pick up some tamales to take home for dinner! Â The owner's mom from Mexico City makes these. Â They are terrific. Â If you have never had a GOOD tamal, try one of these. Â The masa is light and fluffy, yet still has a good, rich flavor. Â Help support a great, daring, different, and yummy place for a welcome change of pace!
Wow. I discovered Torta Grill through their food truck, which is at Renegade Brewing Company on Thursday nights. Met the owner of Torta Grill (Steve), and he offered to make something special that wasn't on the menu. He cooked up an incredible carnitas torta with pineapple, avocado, and a spicy chipotle sauce. Delicious! Can't wait to visit the restaurant itself and try the rest of their menu!
Review Source:Aww, I love this little place. I heard from a little birdie their tortas were awesome. Â Being vegetarian I had only one option which was fine, but I'd like to see a little more selection. So the Enrique it was. It had cactus, eggs, panela cheese and red peppers. To be honest, the amount of cheese masked all the other yummy flavors so imo ask for light cheese. Heres where sh*t gets real; the Earth Juice. Â All fresh blended strawberries, pineapple, apples and orange. I seriously had a mouthgasm errrmygawd this was so refreshing and humungous. Ive never not gotten it and finished it within almost a minute. I die for this drink. Go here.
Review Source:Surprise, awesome fresh blended juices! and those tortas? Whoa those are super good and ultra comforting! The juices are huge, as well as the sandwiches, I split both with the boyfriend and we were totally satisfied-and only 12.00! We chose the 'red drink' juice-beets, celery, orange, and carrot-delicious and refreshing. For the sandwich or torta, we chose the Ivan with chipotle sauce, chicken-bacon-cheese plus the refried beans, avocado, onions, tomato and mayo that they add to every torta (unless you tell 'em not to, crazy talk!) and it was great. The bread is super good and not too thick. Service was friendly and helpful, please folks, go here asap!
Review Source:Stars all around! I called on a Friday night and the woman who took my order was very friendly! I asked her to help me pick a couple of good ones for my first experience at this restaurant, and she was thoughtful and right on the money. Delivery was about 45 minutes and the driver was really nice too.
OK, the important part: THE FOOD. If I am going to die an artery-clogged, lift me out of the side of the house with a forklift kind of death, this is the way to do it. We ordered the Arturo and Especial and traded halves, and the only bad part was we couldn't decide which we liked more. I also ordered a tamale on the side and it was also amazing.
I can't eat one of those every day per my doc's advice, but I certainly will dream of them every night. They are that good.
I am SO glad Torta Grill is here.  Apart from the occasional Mexican food truck, Denver has been sorely lacking good, authentic  Mexican tortas, which is why I am so jazzed about Torta Grill.  The tortas are delicious (and ginormous) and the cucumber lemonade is out of this world.  Keep up the great work guys!
Review Source:i ordered the raul torta, and the super cocktail. im a big guy and i can eat alot of food and when i ordered i was extremely hungry. i ate 1 half of the torta and had to take a break. then i went for the cocktail (kept it in the freezer to get it really cold). that was the best fruit cocktail i have ever had in my life. i didnt expect to be blown away but man was it good.
Review Source:I had a sandwich with cactus on it. CACTUS, I tell ya! If you're going the vegetarian route (The Enrique), I have to recommend the jalapeno jelly. I've tried it with the chipotle sauce, but I think the jalapeno jelly is better. Think of how badass you'll sound when you tell your friends you ate cactus for lunch and washed it down with a glass of chainsaw (chainsaw not sold at Torta Grill). I always order delivery and have never been to the location, so I can't speak to that, but "having" to order tamales in order to meet the delivery minimum is an obligation I can gladly embrace. (That's not to say that you have to order tamales, that's just the route I go to hit the minimum total for delivery.)
Review Source:This place rocks. Â I try to go here at least once every week. Â I was skeptical about their liberal use of egg in basically every sandwich, but these sandwiches have great flavor. Â I got the Hector with the jalepeno jelly and it was awesome. Â Not to mention that the guys that work here are really friendly and give great recommendations. Â Stop by if you are in the area. Â They are open till 3AM on the weekend if I remember correctly. Â Usually I can only eat half of a sandwich and warm up the other half in the oven the next day, but who is complaining about that?
Review Source:Like I've said before, I could eat some form of sandwich for every meal on a given day. Â But sometimes subs get boring (okay not really), and I want something different. Â Torta Grill is perfect for that. Â
I got the ham/pineapple/steak torta...ummm maybe the most flavorful different thing I've eaten in awhile. Â The jalapenos on top make it the perfect amount of kick. Â Fresh avocados and raw veggies on top add to the combination of flavors. Â Only 6.50 for a sandwich that was big enough to split (if I hadn't eaten breakfast then I could have scarfed down the whole thing). Â
Service is awesome- super friendly. Â They mentioned they stay open until 3am on weekends...would be a great place to soak up booze at the end of the night. Â Not really somewhere you sit down and eat- they only have a few bar stools and the shop is tiny...more of an order and move along type of place.
Nice people. Amazing Tortas. I told them it was my first time, and the girl taking my order joked to the cook to "make this one good." LOLZERS.
The bread is delicious! The insides are delicious. This was a lot of flavor for a sandwich, and it's big enough to be a meal itself. The food came out quickly, and the price is reasonable.
They seemed very happy to have a new customer(and a new regular). Lives up to the hype. I can see  taking out of towners here for a taste of something different.
A friend told me about this place. Â Now keep in mind that my friend knows very little about Mexican food, let alone Tortas from Mexico City. Â So i was a bit skepticle. Â But all was put to ease when i walked in. Â The place is very small but you see everything they do. Â From the fresh fruit juices made to order, to the grill where the magic happens. Â The owners are there and they really care about the quality of the food they prepare. Â That said, the menu was not too complicated. Â Many types of tortas and even a build your own was on the menu. Â I had the steak torta. Â The meat was very tender and flavorful. Â The beans were cooked just right. Â Also the bread was very good too. Â Torta Grill just opened up and is starting to really pick up. Â My advice is to get there now before you have to wait in a long line.
Review Source:I haven't had a Torta since I was was in the Navy, in San Diego quite a while back. Honestly this is a great addition to the Colfax corridor, so I am happy they are walking distance to the house.
This is far better then quite a few restaurants nearby. Booming with flavor, quick, and honestly a value for what you get. Bread is good, steak is good, avocados are fresh, flavors in sauces are spot on.
Support this place, and take your friends.
Unfortunately, I have yet to have had food there, but I have had the fresh squeezed juice. Â You can get a huge 20oz cup of juice, such as watermelon or cucumber lemonade for $4 or $5. Â I didn't pay so I don't remember the price. Â I just wish they let you mix the juices. Â The owner there is cute ;-P and really nice. Â And he told me they stay open late on the weekends. Â I will be going back to try the food some day soon.
Review Source:I've had more extremely mediocre vegetarian sandwiches than I could shake a baby at, but the Enrique is packed with more flavor than your mouth can hold! Has to be one of the best vegetarian sandwiches I've ever eaten.
Also, the people who work there are impossible not to like, the ingredients are top notch, and the food will make you want to slap your momma like some punk ass kid from Boulder!
These tortas are massive and tasty! It's a great value. Each delicious torta, served on a huge fresh sandwich roll, combines three choice toppings (think ham, pork, steak, eggs, chicken, chorizo, bacon, etc.) and an overload of included extras: cheese, avocado, beans, spicy sauces and more. I can't even finish one on my own, it's so much food! They're delicious and a great price! Super nice service also. They also offer a vegetarian sandwich that sounds delicious.
Review Source:Tortas were amazing and super filling. Â All tortas come with refried beans and avocado standard which is pretty great. Â We had the Juan-pork and steak and the Enrique- vegetarian with cactus and fried egg. Â Both were delicious. Â I didn't really love the jalepeno jam we got on the Juan, but the chipotle sauce on the Enrique was the perfect amount of spice.
The owner couldn't have been nice and he and my husband talked all about their travels in Veracruz, Mexico. Â We will definetly go back and try some of their other tortas. Â Also, horchata was fabulous!
SOOOOO good!! This is the only thing of its kind I know of in Denver. The Tortas are huge--I ate one for 3 meals. I'm also very happy that they have so many healthy options and a delicious vegetarian torta--the Enrique. The fresh juice is great and comes in a giant portion as well. The owners are so nice and have obviously put a lot of work and dedication into making this great establishment.
Review Source:Reallllllyyyy nice family that owns this place, great to chat with while you wait. Â I come here for the fresh coconut with lime and chili powder. Â I usually have to drive out to Aurora for fresh cut coconut and most times my spots are out for the day when I get there. Â I came in the other day and Torta Grill cut me a fresh coconut and I have seriously never eaten a better fruit cup in my life! Â Thanks Torta Grill, I'll be coming in for coconut for years to come and you are an awesome addition to Cap Hill!
Review Source:One late Saturday night biking home down Colfax, my husband and I stumbled upon Tortas Grill. Â It was closed, but we vowed to come back on Monday to give it a shot. Â It surpassed all of our expectations. Â I got the Enrique (vegetarian) and it was incredibly fresh and delicious. Â My Mexican husband got the Jose and said the chorizo was just as good as grandma's. Â We also got a tamale and horchata and devoured all of it. Â We just found our new favorite spot and can't wait to go back!!
Review Source:We were walking to subway to get a sandwich for dinner and noticed this new place that just opened, formerly the Pineapple Grill. Their specialty is "Authentic Mexico City Tortas"
It's basically a sandwich on a thick bread that's kind of like a Cuban or Panini, but not really... You get your choice of meat, cheese, beans and veg stuff. I got the "Ivan" and it was the bomb. Granted instead of jalapeno peppers I had them add Jalapeno Jelly, which is my new favorite condiment, It had all the flavors a connoisseur requires: soft and crunchy bread, lots of cheese, chicken topped with bacon and some spicy and sweet from the Jelly.
At $6.50 a sandwich it's not a bad deal considering how large they are. They are big enough to feed two people or you could save it for your next meal.. but I had to eat the whole thing.. as I wasn't willing to share my jelly. Their tamales were also good.
Additionally, they have fruit and natural juice drinks. We didn't try those, because at first I thought they were a bit expensive, but after thinking about it their price range of $3 to $5 bucks isn't bad.. it's actually less expensive than Starbucks or Jamba Juice.. so next time I'm by I'll have to try one.
I expect we'll be back.. often.
Holy guacamole! I have fallen in love with this place. I had heard a lot of buzz about the Torta Grill opening and I was stoked when I was finally able to check it out. First of all, the owners (husband and wife) are incredibly friendly and passionate, which fills the restaurant with a great vibe.
I was initially surprised by the small size of the space but I actually really like it; it seats a few people in a bar style section but I'm assuming most of the food is take-out. The other thing I noticed right away is that the food is cooked right in front of the customer and made to order - great!
Okay, so now here's what really reeled me in - the vegetarian torta. After not eating meat for the last half year I've come to the sad conclusion that most vegetarian sandwiches are fairly boring and bland. But wow - the Enrique torta blew me away. The sandwich had the most wonderful bread, CACTUS, avocado, onion, and peppers, just to name a few of the ingredients. I had never had cactus before and this was definitely a great first experience. SO good! Ardeni, one of the owners let me try some of the Horchata and it was bliss. Overall, the meal was excellent and so big that there was plenty to share or save for later.
I can't wait to go back and I definitely recommend this new gem.
