Nectar of the Gods this is goood!
If you can get over the loud heavy metal, or just sit as far away from the bar/speakers as you can, then any beer lover is in for a treat.
Tunnel of Trees is a hoppy slap to the face. The Helliun is delicious and i really dig the summer camp like long picnic table through the center of the small brewery.
Somewhat aggressive art work, but as I said about the music before, if your going for the Beer then you will slip into a "For the Love of the Game" type focus. Enjoy
I love this place, and not just because it's long and narrow like me. The beer is original and mouthwatering, the staff is smart and attentive (and look amazing in horned helmets), and there's always fresh, brutal artwork at which to gaze. Your grandma could learn to love metal, beer, and blood-drenched dagger tattoos in this bar.
Review Source:I should've rectified my middling review of TRVE ages ago, for the simple reason that they have elevated themselves from 'great idea' to 'badass microbrewery' in that time.
It's not that the atmosphere has changed at TRVE. Nick and his band of merry metalheads are still the friendliest barstaff on Broadway. The music still kicks ass, and the clientele just keeps getting bigger and better. The hours have improved (open every day except Mondays), but it's still the same fundamental hangout. So what changed?
The beers are amazing here.
Since my original review last fall, TRVE's operation has expanded to include eight different taps. And as someone who now frequents the bar, there isn't a single one that I haven't loved, either initially or eventually. In the style of the best metal bands, TRVE's brews continue to take risks, mock trends, and blaspheme conventional tastes, to excellent results.
Some of my personal favorites: the chocolaty malt of Stout 0))), their Diotima, a tea-infused saison, and finally, the dankest double IPA around, Nazareth. Crazy as it sounds, the latter beer has, quote-unquote, changed my life: or at least my relationship with pale ales. I've recently spoken to several beer nuts who have traveled to Denver partially--or primarily--to make the pilgrimage to this hallowed hall. And with brews this tasty, it's easy to see why.
Besides the expansion of their beer menu, TRVE has also become a destination for special occasions. This spring they had their first dining event, The Slaughter, designed by Squeaky Bean chef mark Blake Edmunds. Their debuts of new beers are  highly celebratory (one even cleaned the place out for a week while they were still ramping up production last fall). Local 'dark' artists regularly debut new work in this ideal space. And this June, when the brewery celebrated its one year anniversary, there was a line down the block just to sign up for the 'KVLT' membership that included growlers, pints, and bragging rights.
These events have made TRVE more fun, but not more exclusive--I still find myself here a couple nights a month, and the atmosphere is always fun and fresh. As their reputation has quickly grown, I find I consistently either run into an old friend or make some new ones at the bar. I'm sometimes surprised I haven't burned myself out on the bar or the brews, but as long as they keep their experimental edge and Motörhead touch of class, wild Harleys couldn't drag me away from this place.
Atmosphere - 2.5
Beer - 4
Overall - 3.5, but Yelp only lets me pick whole numbers.
It's loud and proud. Don't be deterred by the volume pumped to 11; they like their music loud and screamy. This is not the place to go for a light conversation. Instead, head to TRVE for the beer. I enjoyed everything they made, and greatly appreciated their hop heavy offerings. Even their wheat - and I don't like wheats - was tasty. Seating was readily available on a Sunday afternoon. They have a giant table that you and some people who will become your friends can sit at. Park on the street, and enjoy.
As much as I like Denver Beer Co, I am delighted to have found the antithesis of DBC here at TRVE. Â Unlike DBC this place isn't ever bro-y and the bartenders are (consistently) friendly and attentive. Â The beer is good, so if you like metal you're all set! Â At first I wondered if a metal bar could make it in the Baker neighborhood, but after going here a few times now I now think it's the perfect place for it...although I can't pinpoint why.
Also, trying to have your Shazam app find any given song that's playing can be turned into a fun drinking game... FYI.
If you like metal and beer, this is your Valhalla. Metal. Beer. Awesome.
Probably my favorite bar/taproom in Denver. Oh, and there are like twenty other bars a short walk away, so the non-metalhead, PBR-drinking hipsters aren't compelled to take up precious oxygen and space.
I could totally see Dethklok drinking here. And then blowing the place up somehow.
Man I haven't done a freakin' Yelp review in forever, but I gotta bust out for my boys (and girls) at TRVE. Â I've read about them and met them at a couple beer festivals but never had the chance to make it to the brewery until recently. Â I made it a point to make the trip down there for their tapping of Nazareth and damn, they did not disappoint at all. Â Soooooo tasty. Â There's really nothing else to say other than this is my kind of people at my kind of place brewing my kind of beer. Â My new favorite Denver brewery hands down.
Review Source:Some of the best micro's I've ever had.
Yeah, the music is just a bit too loud to have a big table conversation, but you'd just be talking about the beer anyway! Â Their Stout and IPA are both impressive - drinkable, not overdone - I'm not a trained critic, just a zealous (and intent-on-being-objective) end user. Â These 2 brews, particularly, could gain a following!
Heard about this place from Renegade brewery, also great beers, so they deserve a note, too!
Small space, and the heavy metal might be outside the normal brewery formula - but clean, great service, laid back crowd; and again, outstanding beers! Â They also need to figure out how to put in a small grill so people hang around longer. Â The food truck out front can only be a short-term solution.
But the beers and service trump any limitations! Â Make a point to stop here!
I just have to give this place 5 stars. Â If I ever ask myself 'where do I want to unwind and have a beer?', the first place that often pops into my head is TRVE!!
This place has had some problems keeping up with demand, but they recently increased their capacity so hopefully they won't have this problem anymore. Â I can't stress this enough "Best Stout In Denver"!!
I am very much a Metal Head and love the music they play. Â My most recent visit here was with some friends who are not fans of heavy metal in the least, but I assured them that this place pulls it off with the ambiance, atmosphere and the beer they serve. Â By the end of the night one of my friends became a huge fan of the place and was like "I Love Heavy Metal now!!"
Metal beer!
Thats right folks..this is the most metal brewery I have been to. Dark color tones, metal blasting in the background, and some badass brewers/beers.
The wanderlust and stout are my two favorites here. Also, the huge/long communal tables are really fun and I love the photography of various abandoned buildings.
Let's face it. I'm not really cool enough to make this my spot, but it's fun to give this place a try, try their beer, and probably come back to a few months down the line. The metal thing is a nice touch, the bartenders, all hunky and ultra metal, also happen to be nice and welcoming. Even the darkness of the space is done right. I like it!!
Their beers need work, unfortunately. Between myself and a friend, we tried all the beers they had to offer--about 6. For the most part, they were decent, average beers. Nothing super special, nothing offensive. But there was one beer. Oh, it was terrible. Some sort of smoked tea deal? I'm down with a smoky beer, but this was shove-your-senses-into-a-smoldering-char-pit smoky. With the tea flavor in there, plus the hops and beery-ness, it just didn't work. Could not hang, did not finish.
I want to come back in a little while, after they've had more time to work on their recipes. But I want them to succeed! I love the concept otherwise.
We were doing our own brewery tour one Sunday and came to TRVE. Â Enjoyed 'Wanderlust' & 'Tunnel of Trees'. Â They were both great. Â Enjoyed the atmosphere and music too. Â You have beer as your options. Â That is it! Â If you are are with people that want a vodka/soda...this is not the place. Â Beer is what they are good at. Â Beer is what they have. Â Enjoy.
Review Source:This is one if the greatest bars on earth! Tired of shitty music and Lodo douche bags? TRVE is the bar for anyone who hates Downtown and likes metal. Nick the owner/ brewmaster is a bad ass and performs magic with the beer he brews. I have a suspicion that Will the bartender is a servant of Satan or some kind of demon. I recommend the Death Ripper beer, its named after a song from Speedwolf.
          FFF      FTW

Finally got around to trying TRVE this weekend and totally loved it! The concept is original and nontraditional, and the beers are as enjoyable as the atmosphere. This is the perfect addition to the Broadway scene.
My husband and I split a flight of the six beers on tap--he took the darker half and I enjoyed the lighter ones. And when I say "light" that goes only for the golden color of the brews... the taste and punch was far from feeble. Particularly impressive was the Atma... flavorful and easy to drink, but at nearly 9% ABV it has the balls to leave you on your ass if you want it to. On this particular day, I did not want it to, so I opted for a pint of the Hellion to follow up my tasters. My husband really liked the Death Ripper as well.
The ambiance is totally hot. If you're into metal and have an appreciation for unique, awesome brews then this will be your new favorite spot. The bar is huge and there's plenty of space whether you're a twosome or with a group. All the bartenders were welcoming, attentive and friendly and the music was enjoyable without being intimidating. Can't wait to go back!
Hmmm, place has a decent amount of potential, but they only seem to keep three beers on tap at any given moment. If you want to participate in the brewing scene in Denver I'd really expect to see at least five beers on tap. Beers were fairly good, but nothing stellar.
All in all I'd give them another shot, but only if they start utilizing their taps a bit better.
Also fount it a bit hard to find, especially at night without lighting on their sign; as dark as it is inside the place looks like it's closed at night. How about some street appeal guys?
Was also hoping for some kind of beverage for the pregnant wife... Nothing but beer though.
With so many mediocre breweries in Colorado, it's nice to see one that knows what they're doing.
Their IPAs and stouts are some of the best around. Â As a hophead, their Tunnel of Trees and Nazareth are outstanding.
LOUD metal played at all times. Â Too bad the acoustics suck if you're not in front of the bar. Â
I live 5 blocks away, and try to make it in at least once a month.
FINALLY dropped into TRVE after saying one too many times that I needed to stop in and try it. Not only do I really dig the space, they have an interesting "long" layout that features both barstools and German biergarten style seating, and their small brewing room cordoned off at the end. They're running everything out of two 3bbl fermenters, which means TRVE is a very small operation. They aren't quite a nano-brewery, but they have to brew A LOT to keep up with the foot traffic in the area.
Staff was really friendly, very fun. They treat you like you're a friend without going too far to the point that it's uncomfortable. They were quick with a beer, and knew enough about the product to answer more in-depth questions than your average beer drinker might ask.
But the beers -- the beers! They're definitely trying new things, and combining hallmarks of certain styles with others. Not every beer is fantastic, but they're all interesting. There's a lot of hard work that goes into them, and some come out great while others not as wonderful. But while they help to manifest an experimental mindset, they're all oddly sessionable. It's something I come to crave at a lot of the breweries here in Denver. So few of the beers seem sessionable because they're just TOO over the top in whatever way. Some places really concentrate on gimmicks for their beers (Oh this? This is a kiwi chocolate salted wheat pale ale!) and it makes them so "out there" that you can't have more than one. The beers at TRVE have found a nice balance between creative and interesting while still being accessible enough that you can have 2-3 of them without A: keeling over or B: wondering why your beer doesn't taste like beer anymore.
Solid beers, staff was very friendly. Only thing stopping it from a 5 star was it was a little on the loud side and kind of dark, but when you pride yourself on being a heavy metal brewery it is good to commit, glad I went, not the closest to me but would go back for a second visit if I'm in the area.
Review Source:"Wild is so right, metal tonight
Faster than over the top.
Open the door, enter hell's core
Black is the code for tonight!"
is literally the first thing I heard when I walked into Trve for the first time. ...which was last night. Anywhere playing Venom super loud, just fucking rules. This place is turbo rad...to the max.
I've met Nick at a bunch of shows (true metal shows...hmmm so it's not just a clever name?!) and have heard of this glorious establishment so many times before. yet, somehow I never made it in. This is because I thought it was in a different location and didn't actually know the hours. which are Thursday- Saturday? Whatever either way, every time I attempted to go here before I went on like a Monday or Tuesday or too late.
I seriously love this place, I knew I would.. how could I not? Metal and beer, bunch of black shit every were, dismal photography and a fucking giant long table in the middle of the place. Praise Odin.
The beer is pretty good too. Not gonna lie, I'm a pilsner/lager Coors drinkin kinda guy. So I'm no expert on brew by any means. So I only had like one beer, The Hellion... I seriously was just like...hmm the Judas Priest reference should be awesome, and it was tasty. I couldn't drink it all night but it was good. And fucking reasonable prices, $4.50 for a fancy brewery beer is a goddamn steal.
Can't wait to introduce this place to my brothers in metal.
Here's a totally original concept for craft beer... A Heavy Metal Brewery Tap Room.  But, it actually works.  The music was a bit loud & it was  touch dark (black), but the beers were decent and the bartenders were knowledgeable and friendly.
We've got friends in the area and plan to go back with them.
Would you like to be served a great IPA by two good looking blond dudes in a black bar while listening to metal? Â
Great! Â Me too!
Tunnel of Trees is a great IPA- easy to drink with a mellow hoppy bitterness. Â Atma- my friend who hates beer loved this Belgium strong ale (not my cup of...beer? Â I don't like Belgium style). Â
The bar tenders were awesome and visually satisfied whatever sort of Thor fantasy my friend and I were looking to start the evening with. Â Plus, metal is a nice touch.
The crowd was a combination of dudes who like metal and some west Wash park types. Â Interesting.
Love it. Â Can't wait for my next visit!
Half baked. The beers I tried were both green. They clearly were not aged enough. Too bad because I was looking forward to trying the Black ale, I'm a big fan of that style.
The service leaves a lot to be desired also. There are too many good places in town for me to return to TRVE. I'll go to Copper Kettle, Prost, Vine St., Renegade, Strange, Wit's End, Dry Dock...
Get your ass in to this place and have a beer. Â Before you start crying like a little girl that they "only" have 5 or 6 beers on the menu, shut up and try them. Â I don't like IPA's but one of the two on the menu was utterly delicious. Â The art decor made me feel like i was in Tobe Hooper's living room - f'n awesome! Â The metal music playing softly, (that's right, i just said "metal" and "softly" in the same sentence) is bad ass because you can actually enjoy the music but still carry on a conversation. Â This bar does a lot for this district - can't wait to go back.
Review Source:Nice little brewery on South Broadway.
The beers are a little hit-or-miss for me. But, I like to do a sampler of the latest and there is usually at least one I really like.
Everyone that works here is super friendly and the place is rarely crowded.
I love the big community table, but the seats are a bit akward (built for two butts, but if one person gets up, the other falls over).
They do not do regular growlers here, and you can't even get their modified growlers unless you are in their growler club, which is sold out. Lame.
Parking is definitley a challenge here, so be prepared to circle a few times.
There is always some interesting metal music playing and a super fun sign in the bathroom about employees carving slayer into their wrists.
This place has been on my radar for a while but for some reason or another I never seem to make it in. Â A glorious October Friday night the stars aligned and I stopped in to see what all the fuss was about. Â A few words come to mind when I think about this place ... Dark, Unique and Delicious. Â Dark because of the metal theme, unique because of the variety of beers and delicious because ... well they all tasted so good.
So the beer ...
The Black Cascade. Â It's an American black ale that tastes a lot lighter than it looks. Â It looks like a stout but drinks like ale, one hell of a magic trick if you ask me. Â
The Prehistoric Dog. Â This is like nothing I've ever tasted before ... Start with a wheat beer and add Hawaiian black lava salt and coriander and out comes the Prehistoric Dog. Â A tad bit salty but all the way unique and tasty.
Hollow Idol. Â It's a pretty typical Indian white ale with a hint of fruit. Â Good combination of hoppy and sweet.
Bottom line with this place is their beer is good and I will be coming back again and again to see what other things they come up with.
I looked for this place for a good 2-3 minutes before actually finding it.  I walked in front of it several times and because I was at ground level, I didn't see the signage above it.  I knew it was somewhere near the Crossfit Broadway, but  because the interior is so long and skinny, it doesn't make a visual impact from the exterior.  As I walked in and my eyes adjusted to the dim lighting, my eardrums were rocked by the heavy metal that was flowing from the speakers.
As I strolled deeper into Trve, I passed a large banquet hall.... the only fixture of any kind at the start of the bar. Â Made of heavy wood and benches, it reminded me of a table that vikings would feast at. Â As I made my way to the bar, the lighting gleamed off the brewing vats at the back. Â I counted six or so, and was not surprised when I sat down at the bar and saw 6 house beers. Â
The bartender working that day was a great server, genuine and knowledgeable. Â We struck up conversation about the the beers he had as well as other brewers in the area. Â I ended up going with a salty beer and another one that I can't recall. Â The salty beer, was just as he described.... Salty. Â The beer was a drink that my pallate had to warm up to, but once I had adjusted to the flavor, it was a treat for sure. Â The beer itself made me thirsty for more beer. Â
I do not recall if they had food, or only beer. Â I will go back at some point. Â The beer is unique and has a fair price point. Â The atmosphere is loud, but if you go with a few friends, you could still have a good conversation over a decent brew.
We've been trying to go here all summer but they keep cutting back their hours because they keep running out of beer. Â Bummer problem to have, right?
We finally made it a point to stop in and get our growler filled (I'm a member of the TRVE CVLT....yes, I know you're impressed) and even killed time at Argonaut buying too much beer since they don't open until 4 on Saturdays and we weren't feeling the go back home and head back down south thing..
The interior aesthetic is great with some cool, creepy abandoned house photographs on the wall and a big Nordic style communal table down the middle. Â The space is long and cavernous and they play nothing but metal...I like that the overall situation keeps the douchey riff-raff out.
We tried all three beers on tap and all three were solid. Â The Tunnel of Trees (IPA) was my least favorite (for an IPA) but the Black IPA (almost stoutlike) and Wanderlust (belgian pale) were both delicious. Â We ended up getting our growler filled with Wanderlust because they had the most of it and the Black IPA was a tad too heavy for summer (but not too heavy for this place).
Staff and brewer/owner Nick are actually very approachable and friendly considering this is a metal brewery....not that you may have had any preconceived notions of what a metal brewery might be like in terms of service, but Nick is great and eager to share his beer love with you.
My husband likes metal and sometimes I'm forced to listen to it when we're driving in the car and sometimes I threaten to jump out of the car for the sake of my ears. Â So, I'm admittedly, quite surprised that I like this place as much as I do.
Here's what you should know:
Yes, they play metal, but it's not blasting. It's not like that time you decided to spend four tickets at the fair to ride the Gravitron and the carnie in the middle blasted his death metal, while you spun in a circle really really fast while hanging upside down stuck to a wall and then you puked and had a skull crushing headache once the ride was over. Â It's not like that. Â Instead, the music is pretty much only something you notice if there is a lull in the conversation or if you're there with my husband, who will excitedly exclaim, "Yes, I love this album!" while drumming on the bar.
Black walls, "dark" art, salvaged wood. Â Everything is simple and pretty, uh, awesome.
Their growlers are pretty bad ass. Â While most growlers will serve their purpose to haul beer around, not all look cool while doing it. Â
They have three beers on tap and do not plan on having more or hosting guest beers anytime in the near future. Â I really liked their Belgian. Â REALLY LIKED IT.
They have a great location on Broadway. Â So many breweries are located in the middle of nowhere making me less inclined to visit. Â TRVE is super close to lots of restaurants and bars in case you want to make a night of it.
Samples are cheap!
If you like craft beer and metal music, this is the place for you! Â Leave your high-maintenance girlfriend at home to watch some bullshit reality show and go have a few pints of superb small batch brew from Nick & Will at Trve.
I love the dark evil vibe of the place and can listen to Red Fang any night of the week while enjoying an IPA, India White Ale, or Salted Wheat. Â Food trucks outside keep you satiated if you need a bite while you finish one pint and move on to the next.
Make note of the hours and stop by for craft beer brewed right.
You know I love beer. Â Now you know I do. Â So when someone says to me "Hey, there's a brewery down the str....", well I'm already running. Â We came here during the UMS for some sweet malted hops action, and we weren't disappointed. Â They only had a few brews on tap, but they were excellent. Â The salted wheat beer was unique and tasty, although I don't think I could handle more than one. Â The black IPA is my favorite.
It's a simple spot inside, where you go in and have beer and that's it. Â One more little gem nestled in this magical stretch of Broadway, one more reason to go.
Cheers!
This place is all about the atmosphere. I've been to quite a few many dark and dank bars in Europe and this brewery is pretty dang close to those. But, in typical American fashion it's much BIGGER.
The space itself is ace of cakes! I love that it's dark with lots of space at the bar, plenty of standing room and even a long community style drinking table at the front. High ceilings and dark walls = way cool! Conveniently located on Broadway there's little to no competition for breweries in this area. However, there are plenty of other bars and naughty places to hit up if need be.
The beer itself was ok - but not great. The stout was drinkable but the salty concoction mentioned by Rebeca R. is not good. If it's 2 am and my taste buds are dead and I still need more beer and there's nothing else left to drink then I might could muscle thru one or two. Decent prices tho so I can't complain about cheap beer.
I found the staff to be way laid back which again, is a testament to the awesome atmosphere of this place. Fun and frightful with good music (but not too loud) and clean bathrooms make this a place not to be missed!
On a sunny Saturday booze cruise on bikes, we happened to end our evening here... and my, what a treat.
Inside, they have heavy metal playing (but not blasting) in the background. Decor-wise, it's a sleek contemporary modern with long hardwood tables, a generous bar area, and a friendly staff. A lovely drinking experience, even based on interior styling.
But more importantly, the beer. I've always wondered if it was possible to combine a Belgium wheat beer with the confidence of an American pale. Guess what? They did it. They've made this beer I've had in mind in my head for 2-3 years now and they made it tasty. So tasty, that I think it's my favorite beer this Summer right now.
The same may not be said for some of their other selections, but if you've got to try one, try the Belgio-American Pale. It's this kind of confident, wam, bam, in your face beer that sets TRVE apart from the rest.
Quite enjoyable!
I dug the beers, a lot. But the salty wheat is what everyone was talking about. It was a favorite of some, although most of us thought it resembled when you drop your beer in the ocean and continue to drink it saltwater and all. The others were all quite tasty tho!
I loved the layout, super dark / community style table w/ a wall ledge perch, a long bar and intense art. They were busy, but we got our samplers fairly quickly.
The food truck outside (Pomfreet) on Saturday was amazing! The perfect complement to the hunger developed from drinking.
So far, so awesome once they dig their heels in and have a few more brews I am sure it will be even better!
Fabulous! Great brews. Â The Prehistoric was delicious and nothing like I have ever tasted. Â I thought maybe halfway threw the brew I would be over the saltiness, but nooooo. Â I was left wanting more.
We had all the beers and the Wanderlust was splendid and stood out. Great taste, delish hop with a perfect finish. Â Rumor has it the FDA has not approved the yeast as of 6/9/12.
If you dig hops tunnel of trees is your brew. Â The setup is great, big ass community table, along with a large bar. Â The staff is super geeky and kind. Â TRVE is the best new brewery. Â JOIN THE CLVT!
