It was "Date Night" and we decided to check out Tullycross Tavern since we've heard great things about them through my brother & his wife...
The dining area has a lot of natural light coming in , and is a welcome feeling , with large top to bottom windows....the atmosphere is nice and relaxing. Our Irish waitress was more than pleasant and talkative but NOT annoying.
I enjoyed their corned beef & cabbage dinner (though I wish they used a pressure cooker for the cabbage). Included on my plate were dill carrots....something that really tasted great!!! It was different, and I love restaurants that think outside of the box when it comes to putting together a menu with different combinations on it.
My wife enjoyed her chicken/pasta plate as well. We did not order any appetizers because our drinks came out quickly..and my wife LOVED her drink, a mix of a vanilla shake and margarita of some sort...you couldn't taste the alcohol and she loved it's sweetness..I had one of the beers (not a big beer guy) but enjoyed my room temp draft beer 16 oz.
You guys should go back and check this place out...Cute waitress's too if that helps!
Nothing special about this place. I had been there once a while back, wanted to give it another shot.
Huge problem: the floors are sticky. Through the bar, on the rug, in the bathroom - everywhere is sticky. It's been 48 hours since I was there, shoes are still making squeaky noises.
Beer is average. I had a five-beer flight, I only really liked one of them and this was the one beer they get from a distributor and don't make on their own - hmmmm...
Service was kinda ridiculous. We had a newer server, and although she didn't do anything BAD, I felt like she was trying to act like my best friend and not my waitress. She forgot some things, and made us feel slightly uncomfortable. Also swore a few times - I personally don't care at all, but I bet the manager wouldn't be happy to know that.
The legit only GOOD part about this place was my dinner. I got the TCT Mac N Cheese, and WOW was this entree amazing. Top 25 meals I've ever had, for sure. Mac and cheese with chicken cutlet, bacon and a little BBQ sauce. Nailed it on that.
Would MUCH rather just pick up a take-out order of the mac and cheese and eat in the parking lot - that way I don't deal with average beer, weird waitresses and STICKY FLOORS.
I have wanted to stop at Tully Cross since I was presented an empty growler to fill about 2 years ago.
Stopped in for a Saturday afternoon burger and a beer. The IPA was super, more of a west coast style. Very hop forward was just what I was looking for. I was the only one sitting in the bar so service was prompt and very helpful.
I ordered just the basis burger and rare, the bartender sent it back for me because it was not cooked properly (yes she received a nice tip) Unfortunately the fries must have just sat while they cooked a new burger, they were dry and soggy at the same time. Burger itself was super, I was happy that the bartender was attentive to my requests.
I will second another post about the ground outside the bathroom, it was quite sticky. I mean I've been to some "wild, trashy, underground" bars in the past certainly in college but that floor was awful.
I would go back the beer was good and other than that nasty bathroom entrance my experience was what I had hoped.
Checked out Tullycross the other day for dinner. I had the shepards pie and my boyfriend had corned beef and cabbage and both of our meals were great. The waitress was very friendly and knowledgable about the food and beer selection. My beer (I can't even rember what it was) was good, but nothing memorable. On a Friday night around 9 there was no wait and a decent crowd at the bar. I had been to John Havards a few times before and would say overall Tullycross is doing a better job.
Review Source:My GF and I stopped into Tullycross for lunch this past weekend. Being lovers of a good microbrew, this place was the PERFECT choice! I tried their stout and imperial stout, and immediately had a moral dilemma: Do I get the tasty stout or the tasty but strong imperial stout? I wasn't driving, so the choice was practically made for me. Imperial stout it was!
The menu had quite a few meals that I was interested in. I ended up ordering the Brisket Sandwich with BBQ sauce on the side with a side of their bacon mac and cheese. To say I was impressed with the food would be an understatement! The sandwich was amazing, and the mac and cheese just about stole the show.
The service was great, food was great, and the bar area was nice and clean. Definitely a fan of Tullycross Tavern and Microbrewery!
This place needs a major bath. Â
I know the menu has been revised and revised - I hear that the kitchen staff comes and goes, each time I hear that the new guy in the kitchen is going to win me over and make me feel like they care about putting out good consistent food. Â I've been being dragged there for two years tho - and it's just not getting any better. Â
But folks, when I say my feet stick to the floor I mean it's uncomfortable to walk from the front to the restroom. Â And this is on the CARPET. Â Like being in a movie theatre where people spill things because they're in the dark and no one can see well enough to mop it all up - this place is really grossing me out. Â
The food is ok. Â The prices have gone up and the selection has gone down. Â I miss the spring burger... or any burger for that matter. Â I go in with a group of 'regulars' who work across the street, so you'd think they would get good service, but unless you're at the bar where the staff lurk, you get very slow service. Â They bring out food for half the table and leave the other half for 5-7 minutes before coming around again - and with the *meh*portions, that's sometimes enough time for people to just about finish before some of us get our meals...
I just can't get past the gummy slurry on the floor. Â If they can't bring in enough business, they can't have the floors redone. Â If they don't have the floors redone, I'm guessing they will never get a certain 'class' of business. Â It's a pickle for sure.
Went here because Ted's was too full and we couldn't get a table.
Tried the flight of beers. Like their lightest lager, the rest were watery and one-note.
The menu is much smaller than when it was John Harvard's. My salmon burger was over salted and the patty was small inside this huge bun. One paltry leaf of lettuce. I'm not sure if there was tomato as it might have been too microscopic for me to taste. Â The green beans I ordered as a side came out over boiled and soggy. They looked more like green bean mash. It's a crime that good green beans were treated in such a manner. I asked for the side salad instead.
The server was nice but several times she tried to remove my plate while I was still trying to eat. She seemed a bit frazzled.
I miss the old John Harvard's. still plenty busy here but the food and the beer just left me feeling flat.
I was entertaining some travelers this weekend and, after a round of shopping at the buckland hills extravaganza, we were in need of a snack to hold us till dinner. Â With the plethora of choices available, we chose the single non-chain option: Tullycross.
NOW, as a yelper, i knew this place had not received stellar reviews, but i have to admit that I'll give anywhere a shot, at least once. Â Tonight, i was not disappointed.
We wandered in a little after 4 and the place was empty; not a great sign, but it doesn't spell death, either, especially considering it was a Monday. Â Happy hour normally runs from 4-7, but on Mondays- all day long! Â We gladly sidled up to the bar to take advantage...
There are food and drink specials: 50 cent wings, $6 soft pretzels, $5 pizza, $4 fry basket, and way more. Â For drinks, there are $5 specials featuring Jack, onyx moonshine, margaritas, and more, as well as select glasses of wine. Â Beer- house brewed- is also discounted ($4.25 for a pint on our visit). Â Drinks were excellent, and the pours were healthy.
For food we got 6 whiskey teriyaki wings, 6 wicked hot wings, soft pretzels, kettle chips, and a cheese pizza. Â The wings were exemplary- meaty AND crisp, as well as beautifully sauced. Â The Hot sauce really wasn't, but that's not unusual. Â The carrots and celery served alongside were perfectly fresh and crisp, though the advertised cucumber accompaniment was absent. Â Bleu cheese portion was hefty and appreciated.
Soft pretzel was delish, and the honey mustard dipping sauce was sweet with good bite. One of my (picky) companions chose to order the loaded kettle chips... sans load. Â Naked. Â I was disappointed at first, but these chips were ridiculously crisp and substantial. Â I am not a chip person, but i did- personally- finish the basket. Â (I'd love to try them loaded!) Â The pizza got good reviews from my companions, and definitely looked good.
Our party sampled a few different beers (made on premise), and were happy with all. Â The oatmeal ale was especially good.
I know they were slow when we went, but i do have to remark on the service we received: well beyond excellent. Â We were taken care of by rose the bartender. Â Not only was she friendly, she was tirelessly professional and accommodating. They ran out of your beer? Â Have what's in the line on us. Â Never had it before? Â Taste it first. Â Appropriately checked on us in increments, and glasses never empty for long. Â This girl has GOT to have regulars.
I'd definitely like to try this place again. Â After reviewing their full menu, there is an Irish leaning, as well as the propensity to slightly more upscale dishes. I can't speak to any of that, but what I've had- I've enjoyed. I do believe this place is worth a try, at least once. Â (Probably not on a Monday night...)
My husband and I did not have a stellar experience last night at Tullycross Tavern. Â If I could do a half start it would only be a 2.5.
We ordered the calamari as an appitizer, it definately was not as warm as it should have been. Â Standard frozen average fare. Â
The cesaer salad that came with my meal barely had any dressing on it at all.
My husband tried to order the lamb shank and many minutes later was told they were out of it. Â He ordered the pork chop instead, and many more minutes later we were told that dish was also unavailable (apparently no one defrosted the pork chops and attempts to quickly defrost one weren't going well - at least they gave up on that idea). Â Ultimately he ordered the NY strip steak which was acceptable.
As compensation for our aggrivation they did give us a $15 gift certificate and did not charge us for my (lesser expensive meal).
The restaurant wasn't that busy and they seemed under staffed. Â Our waitress did an ok, if slightly slow, job (but to her credit I think she was handling almost all the tables).
I think our $15 credit will go toward drinks.
Overall, it's a decent place to go if you're in the Manchester area and looking to grab a few beers or a quick bite.
All of their beers are brewed in house - that said, they have a big beer selection, with lots of short run or seasonal ales. Their beers are hit or miss, with some being excellent (the stout and the IPA) and some really not sitting well with me (here's looking at you, irish red). They change it up every time I'm in there, so there's always a new beer to try.
I've only ever sat at the bar, so I can't speak to the table service, but all the times I've been there I've gotten the same bartender, who was great (and hilarious).
As for the food, it's a solid place to grab some pub grub, but don't expect anything fancy. I usually stick with the beer!
They were out of several different liquors-I realize its a brewery but sometimes I feel like a martini and I tried to order 3 they had on their menu and they were out of them completely.
The hostess never notified us that our table was ready so we were at the bar waiting until I finally went u to her and realized she had skipped over us.
I ordered the beef brisket sandwich, it was dried out and lacked any flavor. Â I was thoroughly disappointed from the service to the food.
The ambiance was nice and they had a nice selection of food and drinks, but honestly the food was mediocre at best. Â The "stew" was more like a Campbell's soup and the sandwiches were something you would expect from a Perkins or Friendly's. Â Overall, we were disappointed, and probably wouldn't go back for dinner; maybe drinks and apps.
Review Source:I cannot comment on the meals here because I have never had one. Â The nachos are average. Service is generally good but noone ever knows the answers to questions about menu items, but they will find out for you. Beer selection is pretty good. The best thing here are the moonshine cocktails.
Review Source:Horrible if you're interested in eating, not bad if you're after a drink.
Cheese pizza for our daughter tasted like charred grocery store frozen pizza.
My wife said her shepherd's pie was okay. Tasty but made with corn instead of the advertised carrots. The mashed potato portion was almost as hard as the bowl the pie was served in.
My clam chowder, which our server had raved about, arrived with a skim of oil and was unflavorful and too rich. My salad was made with what seemed like month-old produce. The spinach was slimy, the cucumber limp. Worst of all, they tried to hide the poor quality of the greens by carefully placing a few decent leaves over the rotting ones. My wife's salad was worse than mine.
The management did take these items off the bill when we pointed out the problems, but no one apologized and the manager never came out to talk to us. In short, poor food backed up by mediocre customer service.
I know this isn't a place to go to eat healthily, but when you're looking for healthy eating out options when out with a group of friends, just to be a part of the party, there's really only 1 option - salad. Thankfully, it's summertime and there was a summer berry salad on the menu. With that being said, the salad portions are huge, which is nice.
On another note, why isn't gratuity included on the bill for large groups???
Let's be honest, there are some things they could work on presentation wise, but overall it's an OK place overall. Â The layout is still as nice as it ever was back in the John Harvards' era, and the food is good too.
- FOOD -
The food was pretty good. Â I had the corned beef reuben, and also tried the macaroni and cheese entree. The reuben could have had a little more meat on it, but honestly it was about right for the price. Â The corned beef itself was tender and moist, and fell apart nicely. Â (There's nothing worse than stringy meat that rips out from between the bread when you bite it, but that wasn't a problem with this one). Â The macaroni and cheese portion was huge, and it had a nice smokiness to it.
The only negative I have on the food was the onion rings. Â The flavor and texture was overly greasy. Â
- SERVICE -
The service was really good. Â We were immediately greeted by the hostess when walking in, and our waitress was attentive, polite, and very attractive (not that appearance really matters, but it doens't hurt!).
- APPEARANCES -
A few negatives here - the bathroom needs updating, the rugs are the same ugly/dirty rugs that John Harvard's left behind, and my plate was missing a sizable chunk on the underside of the rim. Hopefully the plate was an accident.  This place does have some  potential, so hopefully these upgrades will fit in the budget.  It's such a good location for a restaurant, right off the highway, with a TON of parking between their own lots and the commuter lot immediately next door. Â
- TIPS -
Commuter lot next door offers spacious parking for people that don't like parking next to other cars.
Disclaimer: I loved John Harvard's. So anything that replaces it is a dead dog in my book.
That being said, I came here for dinner and drinks with a girlfriend, and we managed to catch the tail end of happy hour. I had a light, summer-style brew that was crisp and refreshing, without being too much of a pansy.
We ordered a baked potato pizza (without bacon) and it was yummy. I could probably have eaten two of them (they're small), but instead, we got salads. She had one with drizzled balsamic reduction and LOTS of garlic, and I had a regular boutique salad. I can't remember the names of any of these because their website does not have a working menu as I write this.
All in all, it was enjoyable, had a decent amount of vegetarian options, and it's a good halfway point for her and I to meet up, so we will probably be going back often.
Beer was very enjoyable! Just as good as it was even with the previous owners...
Haven't had dinner here yet but got a few apps over the course of a couple different happy hours... wings and mashed potato pizza were really good! chicken quesadillas were pretty decent as well as they did a good job keeping the chicken moist... was not happy with the corned-beef nachos (which might have just been a special at that time, not sure they're always on the menu). Will definitely be back for some more drinks and apps...
Atmosphere is what throws me off a bit... somewhat dark, feels a little dingy in there... maybe that's what they're going for since it's a brewery but something still just seems a bit off.
Service so far has been good. Â Friendly wait staff willing to take the time to explain the variety of beers, etc.
Went here for the first time last Friday with my coworkers. I couldn't believe how busy this place was, we had to park in the commuter lot beside the restaurant parking lot! We made reservations so we sat right away. On a recommendation I tried a burger, the Spring Burger in fact. It was DELICIOUS. Topped with avocado, cheese and sprouts with a side of sweet potatoes fries. The sweet potatoes were amazing in themselves. I'm excited to go back and try something else on their menu soon.
Review Source:Edit: I had a much longer update attached to this review and I have no idea where it went, which is a shame because it went into a lot more detail. So instead of rewriting that, I'm copy-pasting my review from Beeradvocate and adding a little more info as of last night.
This used to be a John Harvard's Brew House, and the decor still shows that. Walls around the bar are a little bare and could use a dash of touching up. Just ignore the walls and pay attention to the flatscreens they have hanging around.
The beer is a funny thing because Tullycross knocks it out of the park when they get something right, but there are a few that just don't work. The Whickham Wit was lackluster and bland, as was the brown ale I had here not long ago. The imperial stout was bloody amazing, and they have a great pale ale with the TCT. The Spring Rye is alright. I dunno, rye beer just may not be my thing.
Food is in that decent-to-good range. Above average, though I haven't had anything really complicated there. Crispy fries. Decent kettle chips and BLT sliders. Their menu is not super complicated but has enough that there's something for everyone. Had the smokehouse mac & cheese recently and really enjoyed it.
Service can be a touch slow during off-peak hours, but I don't know if that's because the waitresses are leaving me alone to enjoy my beer or if they're actually inattentive. Long story short: I'm inclined to think it's the former. Mostly because I brought some work with me on my recent visit and I think the server could sense that I wanted to be left alone with my laptop. I last went around 7:00 on a Thursday night and the place was pretty full but the service was fast, which makes me think that they're just a little understaffed when they're not expecting a  crowd.
This is a place has gone through some growing pains since they decided to part ways with JHBH. But they've getting better and are a good local option.
Not being able to find a place that did not have a 45+min wait in the Manchester area we took a chance with the Tullycross Tavern (formally John Harvard's which we liked).
We were seated right away on a Sunday evening, in the Tavern which is the type of non family atmosphere we were after. The Table & bar area were clean. However we were unsure of the hosts since they had no name tags and wore street close like you and I.
Waitstaff was very friendly and prompt. We ordered our beers right away.
I excused my self to use the ladies room, which I found dirty, toilets were both un-flushed, toilet paper and paper towels all over the floor and the the counters were dirty with soap and makeup. I was not impressed, and felt I had to open the door with a paper towel in my hand.
I returned to the table and our drinks were waiting and they were great - I had a guest cider and my husband had the newly brewed Scottish 80 Shilling - he really enjoyed this beer.
We ordered The Bar Crawl - Pan Seared Wings, Hand Twisted Pretzels, Irish Nachos. Â This app came quickly & hot. The wings were spicy but good, the pretzels were hot temp and fresh.
We liked the Irish nachos with the kettle chips and mashed potatoes. However the mashed potatoes lacked the garlic they were said to have, the cheese seemed to be just cheddar and not the pepper-jack cheese as listed, corned beef was sprinkled on very conservatively (almost as if they were running low in the back) and scallions were nonexistent. Over all there was some much needed flavor missing from this Irish Nacho!
Our main meals were a simple burger and turkey melt. Â They came out quickly and hot, and exactly as expected. Pretty basic fare. Â However the onion rings listed as Black & Tan Beer Battered Onion Rings, seemed unexciting and over fried. Same with the Sweet Potato Fries. Both were heavy with oil from the frying. Made them too much to eat.
Would we return? Sure for the beer, and maybe the Irish Nachos, but not for the very basic un-flavorful pub fare.
Even though in the grand scheme of things, this establishment can kiss my ass for canning Uncle Frank (the brewmaster at the previously named John Harvard's), I must say I've never had an unpleasant experience here. Since the new brewer stepped into Frank's hard-to-fill shoes, he (with a bit o' assistance from Rob down at NEB) has crafted some fine ales. The atmosphere is family friendly in the restaurant and the bar always has some game on the TVs while a knowledgeable bartender caters to your liquid indulgences. The food is also pretty freaking great; I had the blackened chicken bruschetta salad last time, and my palate and tummy were vehemently satiated.
All in all: Boo! for ousting fellow Rush fanatic Uncle Frank, but you gotta call a spade a spade. This is a fine drankin' and munchin' establishment.
The menu has been tweaked (again) since I first reviewed and the amazing biscuits weren't even offered, nor the old complimentary focaccia. Our entrees read beautifully on the menu but when they arrived at the table they were both a little sad.
Key West Shrimp provided; 2 over cooked shrimp skewers over mostly rice and broccoli. I felt like my Old World Salad had too many marinated items, and I suggest getting the hummus on the side. The beer was okay and the guest brew is a novel idea but I was pretty bummed after leaving.
Still a solid brewpub, but the changes have been good and bad. There is a new brewer, and he's doing a stellar job. I don't think I've had one dud on the beer menu. All the beers are approachable but still developed and interesting. I will always default to Tullycross when looking to grab a beer or two after work, or any time really.
The food however has had a hard time finding it's footing. The Spring Burger they had when they first opened has deteriorated in quality, the bean sprouts were barely there at all, and they were the interesting twist that I really liked. The menus are now in newspaper form, which is just too big to open and since they reuse them all the time, they're all very torn up. My girlfriend ordered a cup of baked potato soup and ended up with a bowl of mashed potatoes, her spoon stood up in it.
The owners are very conscious of the customers opinions, and are eager to change things to accommodate shortcomings, but sometimes there just are too many changes at once. I've seen three menus there since they opened, they really just need to find one that is simple, unique, and executable by the kitchen staff. It's not a good thing when you order the same dish on two different occasions at the same time of day and get two widely different results.
I'm always going to go for the beer, but they need to work on a few things in order for me to stay for the food.
I liked this place as John Harvard's, and I still like this place now. Â It's nothing but another bar and grill (that happens to brew their own beer - which is a huge appeal to my beer loving boyfriend), but it's a nice atmosphere to sit at the bar and have a drink and share an app. Â I have had some of their food here and honestly, the only thing that really takes the cake with me is that Mediterranean salad. Â Thank God they didn't get rid of it with the new ownership! Â Everything else I've tried has been mediocre. Â Still, I'll be back, even if just to hang out at the bar.
Review Source:As a beer geek, I can dig the brews at this place. Their IPAs have been pretty good so far and they even have cask beer. Â I am not sure of any other place in town with cask beer. Â It's not my favorite brew pub in CT, that would have to be Willimantic Brewing Company. Â However their hoppy IPAs are good. It would be nice if they had guest beers on tap too.
The Yelp reviews have scared me away from the entrees so far! Â I have stuck with the appetizers so far. Â The calamari was a little soggy and meh. Â It was underwhelming portion served in marinara sauce. Â I really think the sauce should be on the side. The tots are light and tasty, real quality. Â Not like the cheap ones you get in dive bars that taste like cheap onion powder.
This is a good place to grab a quality hand crafted beer. Â If the food ever matches the IPA's in quality this place will be four stars.
Service: ok, 3 stars
Food: ok, 3 stars
Beer: not bad at all, and a huge step up from SBC 4 stars
Service: could have been more attentive, but no big, don't need to be hounded by our server.
Food: Nothing to foodgasm, but decent taste as we only got some appetizers at the bar.
Beer: We got a taster of everything they had, and everything was drinkable and good tasting. Â Nothing like the crap over at SBC Hamden. Â Every beer presented was representative of style, and worth trying again. Â The IPA rotates hop variety which is a great approach to the volatile hop market, we had batch 4, and it was pleasant. Â
Overall, a huge recovery for us in terms of CT craftbeer, worth going to try at the ver least.
Being a John Harvard's long-time patron, I've seen good times and bad. Â When Chris was the brew master I was at my happiest and at the bar a couple nights a week. Â When Frank took over, I rarely went anymore. Â Nothing against him personally, there was just something about his recipes that didn't agree with my tastes.
The change of ownership to TCT was a bit surprising, but I wanted to wait and see if there was a silver lining.
The lady-friend and I actually met here for the first time when they were transitioning from John Harvard's to TCT. Â I'm unsure whose management the restaurant was under at that time but the food was good that night (though we both just had one of their salad entrees). Â Neither of us ordered beer, but opted for wine.
We went back yesterday for her birthday and sat at the bar. Â I was glad to see some familiar faces, and even happier to note that I was still on first name basis despite my virtually abandoning them during Frank's tenure as brew master.
I started with an IPA and the lady ordered the stout. Â Both were REALLY good. Â The IPA, bitter and hoppy, just the way it should be. Â The stout, a full bouquet of chocolate and coffee. Â Before ordering my next beer, I stopped the bartender and asked if they had a new brew master. Â My suspicions were confirmed... I believe the new guy is Brian.
I finished with their Rye. Â My first sniff was like being slapped with a Christmas tree... I mean this in a good way. Â The bitter and powerful juniper flavors made for a deliciously, crisp finish.
I think they'll be seeing more of me at TCT!
In town for one night, it was close to the hotel. Â Friendly wait staff. Â Had an Irish Red, it was good. Â Nice crowd, seemed like a friendly local bar. Â Food was pretty good, really nice selection to choose from on the menu. Â Next time I'll try the ribs or the chili. Â Flatbread pizza was ok, not outstanding but decent.
Review Source:Thank you, Tullycross Brewery, for reminding me that I love a good Irish Red. Add to it an order of their buttery warm pretzels, and the result is sweet, sweet bliss.
As my colleagues and I have been stationed in Hartford for the past month, we've made it our mission to try as many microbrews in the state as humanly possible. So far, the results have been far from impressive. However, Tullycross was a small bright spot in our efforts to-date - not only was the Irish Red sweetly satisfying, the Oatmeal Porter was not too bad either. They even have a third dark beer offering with their Irish Stout. Any brewery that understands the importance of multiple options of the darker variety is a brewery that I'm an instant fan of.
As far as their food - it wasn't too bad. I tried the salmon, and while it was cooked well, the combination of sauce/pecans didn't work for me like I thought it would. The potatoes were a bit lacking in taste, as were the asparagus spears on the side. However, they do have a large menu of sandwiches, salads, pizza, seafood and pasta - you'd be hard pressed to not find SOMETHING that would appease all appetites at the table.
The service was a bit slow last night; however, I believe a party of 40 had hijacked the waitstaff, so it's understandable. The prices were reasonable (and happy hour prices were even better - $3 beer is a beautiful thing, my friends).
Q: Why would a restaurant website not list their menu?
A: When the food's not that great
I was a huge fan of this place when it was a John Harvard restaurant...never had a bad meal, the food was always top notch, great beer selection. I just had dinner here now that it's Tullycross Tavern, and I must say I'm disappointed. JH used to have at least 10 different burgers to choose from, now they have THREE. I ordered the fish and chips, $13. It came with ONE PIECE OF FISH! And the fish was kind of tough. Someone else at the table ordered chicken pot pie, it was good, but not as good as the JH version. I had an IPA beer, which was really good.
The website doesn't list a menu, something that I think every restaurant website should have! I wrote to them & asked why, they said the website was "under construction". That was two months ago! They said that I could see the menu on their Facebook page. Well it was there, but it was a blurry PDF file that was barely readable.
If I go back here, I might sit at the bar & have a couple of appetozers & a few beers. I doubt I'll be back for dinner.
Was a fan of John Harvards, which occupied this space previously. Â Been looking forward to checking out this restaurant since it opened. Â Had lunch with coworkers here today and was less than impressed. Â The service was kinda slow (weekday lunch, I can excuse that), the menu only had a few items I thought were interesting, and the beer wasn't as strong an offering as I was expecting.
Unfortunate. Â Maybe I'll give it another try if they run some special and confirm whether or not it was just an off day.
HUMONGOUS DISAPPOINTMENT! I could not believe how blecch everything was.
Had to send back those biscuits (too bad they no longer have the focaccia, but it was John Harvard's recipe so they haven't yet been able to come up with their own). I told them my friend raved about the biscuits so we got some. they were hard, cold and we sent them back immediately. then at the end the waitress asked if we wanted her to take it off the bill? Of course! We only had them in our possession for a minute and took one yucky bite, why would we pay for them (IM thinking all this, not saying it out loud.) We just answered, "Yes Please."
Hubby had the Fish Platter which was fried fish, 2 scallops and 2 shrimp. He said it wasn't bad. but the fries are those horrid ''battered'' fries.
I made the mistake of having the ''Easter Ham'' (sounded good with garlic mashed and pineapple. It was all VERY DRY. potatoes needed a lot more butter and cream/milk, they were way to dry and stiff. Ham was dry and had a smoky flavor to it. Waitress thought it all looked dry too and asked if i wanted some sort of gravy. She brought a brown gravy that would've been great, but it had about half the oceans worth of salt in it :O(.
The worst thing was i had all the leftovers cut up and ready for the dogs....and we didnt realize til after we left, she never brought the damn doggy bag to the table! :O( poor dogs, but then again, maybe they wouldn't have liked it either! LOLOL
I used to LOVE Harvard's years ago....honestly hadn't been there in a long time. But i was sucked in by the bull that Tullycross had on their website and fb page, saying its gonna be much warmer and cozier than Harvard's, etc.....its the same old TIRED and stained decor. They need a serious overhaul. Â Im sorry i didnt have the same experience and my fellow yelpers, whose opinions I respect greatly! :O) (u know who u are :O)
This was a pretty decent little place. We went at around 11:00 AM, so we didn't have any beer and couldn't comment on it. The food was pretty good though. The parmesan biscuits with maple nutmeg butter were excellent, as was the flatcrust pizza I had. The brunch buffet my friend tried was a bit of a mess, apparently- not many options, and nothing especially tasty, minus the omelet, which apparently was quite good. I deduct a star for that, in the hopes that it'll encourage the staff to step it up a bit. I also deduct a star because they had Fox News on all but one TV during the freakin' NBA playoffs (really, guys?), and they played elevator music. Step up the ambiance, people.
The service was beyond excellent- very, very good service.
Went here with a friend on a Friday afternoon, thinking it was still John Harvard's. While I've never had John Harvard's, Tullycross was AWESOME. Menu looked amazing, so many things I wanted to try!
I wound up having the Spring Burger, and it was delish! Got sweet potato fries instead of regular, and I have to say, they were most definitely the best sweet potato fries I've ever eaten. Â I tried their Amber beer, loved it too. Great atmopshere, and our waitress was great as well!
Can't wait to go back!
