I was there tonight and I was not happy at all! I got there before the rest of my party of 5 arrived and was not approached by anyone for 10 minutes and the bar wasn't busy at all at 9:30. Then we ordered our wings (3 orders of 10 Honey Carb) and our waitress (the one with the glasses, didn't even get a name that's how bad she was) only came out with two orders so I had to wait an additional 10 minutes to make my order. Then we tried to order four different drinks (three beers and one cocktail) and after multiple times of coming over and asking if everything was alright and giving us wrong orders she finally gave up and hid in the kitchen for 10 minutes and spent another 15 minutes talking to another waitress. Finally we wanted to order more wings and by the time she came over it was 11pm and apparently the wings are done at 11pm, if she wasn't blabbering her mouth off for 15 minutes we could have order more food giving you more money. I was HIGHLY disappointed with the service and the lack of professionalism the waitress had. This was a major black mark for Union Jack's and I am sorry I have to bring this up because I love Union Jack's, but this was unacceptable.

I love the wings and the rest of the food, but the wait staff is horrible. Honestly go for the food and beer, but don't expect to be wowed by the staff.

I stopped in for a late lunch yesterday as I was blowing through the area on business.  Comments from my Yelp Mobile App about the great beer list drew me in.

Immediately a huge negative as I discovered  they are cash only.  The bartender told me this is a small chain of four locations.  Not taking cards in this day and age is stupid, idiotic, and just plain bad business.  If I want a beer and a burger I have numerous other choices that take my plastic.  Regardless of my Yelp rating, unless they have naked Victoria's Secret models behind the bar, I'm taking my business elsewhere.

Now that I have vented about the lack of plastic I had a nice time. Danielle was my bartender and unfortunately she was not naked.  However she was friendly and efficient.

The beer list is decent with about 22 taps.  Great crafts were about 6 bucks which is fair.

I ordered the Cajun Burger which was billed as a monster 8 oz. burger for $7.99.  I upgraded to fresh-cut fries for an extra $1.50.  The meal came out quickly and was delicious.  I love it when an establishment serves fresh-cut fries and these were excellent.  Regarding the "monster" adjective for the burger; it just seemed normal or maybe even a little small.

As long as you have cash this is easily a three star place and probably three and a half.  I'm going to award three stars and I WON'T be back. I'll just take my business to the competition until the owner comes to his senses.

UJ's is a really good neighborhood place. I live an easy walk from here and it's a  convenient place to duck in and meet a buddy for a drink and some good conversation.

Positives (why I keep coming back):

They have 20 or so beers on tap, mostly craft beer, which is great.

The wings are great! I highly recommend Tex Mex. Nuff said there.

If you follow on Facebook they post their draft list once or twice most weeks so you can see what's on tap.

Negatives--Remember, I'm a regular patron and overall, I'm a big fan, but here's my constructive criticism:

I wish they would be more selective in the beers they put on tap. Sometimes there are several great American Craft  Beers (Stone, Founders, Russian River, Victory) and Belgians (Duvel, Chimay, Affligem, etc) to choose from, but other times the list is filled with beers from mediocre breweries (Long Trail, Yards, Boddingtons, etc). I'd just like to see there be a consistent base of great beer, and only mix in Watermelon Lagers and Oyster Stouts when there are plenty of other options for people who like beer to taste like beer.

Cash only is annoying. I'd rather pay another quarter per beer and be able to use a card. There's no excuse for not accepting credit in this day and age as most people would be willing to pay a little more for the convenience, but a bigger gripe is that the ATM is out of service a lot lately. If you run a cash-only business, you've got to make sure you have a working ATM.

Lastly, I would recommend investing a bit in improving the state of the parking lot. There are deep potholes (though not as bad as they used to be). Most importantly, the lot needs to be thoroughly plowed and salted when it snows. Someone (drunk or not) could literally break their neck slipping on the ice I've seen there in the last two winters.

This is my neighborhood bar.  It always has a great beer selection.  The staff is friendly, they know what my wife and I want.  The wings are the best I've ever had.  The bathrooms are the worst I've ever seen.  Seriously.  Something has to be done about the bathrooms.

Even with the bathrooms, I'll probably go to this place until I die/move.  That's probably why the bathrooms havent changed.  If its not broke, dont fix it.  But the bathrooms are broke.  Fix em.  Please.

We would frequent this place quite a bit about six or seven years ago, there was a very nice waitress that worked there, and service was great.  Things changed a bit, it started to get really crowded and did not have the same feel.  The food is basic pub food, wings are pretty good..guess the beer is good, but I am more of a liquor and wine person.

This is an awesome little place. It's cozy and kitschy inside, a nice place to spend a night  with buddies or on an informal date. Their beer selection is great! (It's the only place I've been to in the area that has anything by Jolly Pumpkin brewery on draught). The food I had was a little lackluster, but honestly they serve your average pub fare so it's good enough so go with some good beer. If you're a beer snob, or just looking for a cool little place to hang out in Glenside, I suggest hitting this place up.

I've been here once and it was a great time.  Sure the intererior design isn't hip or fresh, but it's quaint and goes along with the UK theme and works well for the space.

There is a GREAT beer selection, with lots of choices.  The wings are fantastic, too!  So what more could you ask for in a bar?  I only gave 4 stars because I haven't tried any of their other food items just yet.  But so far the atmosphere, beers, and wings are a win.

I've been to Union Jacks more times than I can remember. They have a great selection of rotating beers on draft and the wings and fries are usually fantastic. I like the wings so much that I've never gotten anything other than wings with fries. It can get very busy on the weekends.

Unfortunately, the food prices have increased quite a bit in the five years I've been going there. 10 wings with fries are now going to run you about $12 with tax. I can see spending this kind of money on the wings if they were large, but the size of the wings varies greatly. One time you will get 10 wings that are so large you can barely finish them and the next time they are so small you could eat two dozen.  I'll continue to go there occasionally for the beers, but I at the current prices and size inconsistencies I'm done with the wings.

gotta love the wings here....the honey caribbean are the shit.  the key is also the blue cheese, which is the best and most unique blue cheese i've ever had.

having said that, be prepared to spend a small fortune to enjoy these wings and blue cheese.  They are expensive as hell but are very good.  An extra blue cheese is like 1.50....an absolute travesty.

The couple times I've been there the service isn't really great as the bartenders are usually more interested in BS'ing with the regulars.

would definitely go here for wings!

Right off the bat, I'm going to say that this place frustrates me as they only take cash.  Unless, I'm going straight to a strip club, it is unlikely that I'm carrying around cash with me.  Which is a bummer as I do like Union Jack's Pub's beer selection.

They have a changing selection on tap.  This can be good and bad.  If you like something one time it might not be there again.  However, changing things up in life is good.  Right?

Also, expect to fight for a table so look towards the bar instead.  I was fortunate to look like a sad puppy and a kind elderly man hinted to me that he was about to leave his table.  It is a tight pub.

I enjoyed their chicken tenders though I hear good things about the wings.  I was on a double date so I avoided them so not to get sloppy.

Time for me to update this place. I've become a frequenter of this location.
I love the wings they serve and onion rings. I've not had much else in the food area.

I have had a lot of beer, all of the craft beer variety. I like the beer list that gets tossed out. It is fun to search for the new offerings
I have tried to attend a few of their special events, but not arrived in time to get something free. No problem, I am there for the friends and beer.

Fantastic craft beer selection!  Easy parking,  local bar feel, great beer selection, good for kids and fresh bar food. The burgers are huge, but very well seasoned and fresh. Friendly staff.

This pup is pretty good.  Wings are tasty and the beer is great!   It's not a popular bar but the crowd are pretty diverse.  From Seminary students to biker gangs.  Great place to chill with friends.  The only thing i believe can be a turn off is that it's a cash only joint.  So do not forget to bring that along.

Burgers, wings & beer oh my!  That's what you get at this small local's bar.  This is a plain no frills watering hole with a nice, ever changing craft beer selection and FANTASTIC wings.

This is a hard place to review for me because I totally love it but I tend to over look the things that others won't like.  The booths are small an uncomfortable & it's not always the cleanest place.  The cash only policy bundled with an ATM that doesn't always work would turn most people away.  I guess it really depends on what your expectations are.  I like that this is an old school bar that has character and still feels like a place that doesn't frown on blue collar guys saddling up after a hard day's work.  I have had a lot of fun watching sporting events at UJ's but they don't have that many TV's.

I don't suggest bringing your children here.  It does have seating away from the bar but it's still more bar then restaurant.

If you're a connoisseur of wings, make sure to give Union Jacks a try.

Great beer selection.  Food - typical bar fare.  Nothing to get too worked up about food-wise.  Reminds me of generic "Ye Olde College Pub".  Very serviceable place for going out with the guys or watching the Flyers.  Probably not the place you want to take the fair maiden's father when you start discussing marriage and you are fantasizing about a piece of his bank account.  BTW, bar maid copped an attitude when I asked her to take the lemon out of my $6.00 draft, not cool for either the attitude or the lemon.  What happened to the days when the bartender was there to keep the customers happy?

I wish I could rate a 3.5 here, but I digress. I love the Union Jack, don't get me wrong, but it isn't without it's flaws. They basically have the best draft list in the area most of the time and the food is decent with the wings being the best around. It's a neighborhood bar, so the crowd is as such, not to upscale, but not terrible. I've been going there twice a week for a year or so and I still dig it.

However, the beer list does come and go. Some weeks there will be a good six beers on there that I love. Other weeks though, I'm lucky if there is one or two. The real problem is that they sometimes get caught up in similar styles, so it's all IPAs or all stouts. I like them both, but I don't want to drink either all day. The only other problem is that it is cash only and the ATM is crap. I agree with some other reviewers; I would rather pay a little more and be able to use a credit card than depend on that ATM.

Other than that, it's a great place.

Generally a good beer selection. At least there's always a variety of styles if not unique or great choices. The food is good, not great.

I have two major problems with UJs: one, cash only. Folks, this is the 21st century. I can accept credit cards FROM MY PHONE with Square, and a well-established local business can't accept cards? I would gladly pay 2% more for the fare than pay the $2 ATM fee.

Two, they are SLOW at lunch and the kitchen is closed with alarming frequency. If you go at lunch, be sure to leave yourself an hour and a half, because you will be waiting for your food for a good 45 minutes, minimum.

That said, it's nice to have a bar with good beer a minute from my house. But, given the choice, I'll drive the 20 minutes to Grey Lodge before going to UJs.

This place is average at best.  The beer selection was decent, at least 3 IPA's on tap.  The soup, Manhattan crab, was Campbells vegetable soup with old bay dumped in it in large quantities, no crab in sight.  The wings cannot touch PJ Whelehan's in Blue Bell.  The wings were maybe 5, on a 1-10 scale.  Then the bartender overcharged me, methinks on purpose, as the apology was more like "ooops, I got caught with my hand in the  cookie jar".  Not going back there for awile.  I think the person who reco'd the place to me must have been drunk at the time.

Most of the content of my previous review still stands, and I do love Union Jack's. But like any relationship, you begin to notice faults after a while, and what once seemed like a minor quirk can become seriously annoying.

First of all, the draft list has been sucking for a long time. Rather than six or seven great beers, there are usually one or two decent draft beers these days. The bottle selection is similarly unimpressive.

Also, I find it annoying that the kitchen closes pretty much whenever the hell they feel like it. You can buy fried foods after the grill shuts down, but that too is subject to the kitchen staff's whim. And even when everything is operational, the menu is pretty limited.

I've gotten used to the whole cash-only Philly experience, and although it's inconvenient, I live with it. I can even accept the inevitable fees of a foreign ATM machine. BUT if you're not going to accept credit cards and force your customers to use an ATM machine that will charge outrageous fees, at least offer an ATM that actually WORKS!!! On at least three occasions, I've gone to get money from the UJ's ATM, and the piece of crap is down!

I occasionally trek to the Blue Dog Pub in Lansdale (review forthcoming) and it's there where I really see the limits of UJ's. Blue Dog is a similarly suburban/uncool bar that basically does everything better than Union Jack's: better food, dessert, good coffee, better drafts, and a ridiculously expansive bottle selection.

I'm generally frustrated with Union Jack's because it's obvious that they're phoning it in. Almost every aspect of this bar could be improved. I find it amazing that the place where I've had Russian River's Pliny the Younger TWICE could devolve so much, but sadly it has. Hopefully, this will change with better beer and more consistent food service, but the place has gone down hill while others have improved.

This place is a dirty hole in the wall, neighborhood bar but the beer selection is awesome. Overall the food is just okay except for the wings and they are great. I went here often with my friends when I lived in Philly and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Seat yourself and be forewarned: they're always understaffed and you must pay in cash.

This place is one of my favorites that I discovered while living in Philly for a few years.

Everything on this menu is great. Over the times I've been we've had the wings (honey BBQ), crab cake plate (YUM!), fish and chips (best I've ever had), thai steak salad (HUGE salad, amazing flavor), buffalo chicken steak (more meat that you can handle), and the ju-ju steak (perfect for big meat eaters, carribean flavor in a huge portion w/ mashed potatoes).

Tap list is always changing so that's another major plus to this place, along with the friendly service and large TV's to watch too!

This place gets crowded, so make sure you're patient when you arrive on a Friday or Saturday - IT'S ALWAYS WORTH THE WAIT!

The bottom line first: Great little bar.  Good food, nice service, and way more beers on tap than I can get through in one weekend.

My wife and I stopped in here for a Saturday lunch.  I had read about the wings and wanted to give them a try.  The only wings I have had that were better are my mother-in-law's.  She does not make them often enough and now that she lives in Florida, Union Jack's is my go-to place.

They offer several different sauces, and not just the normal Barbecue, mild, medium, hot, and burn through the plate choices.  I got the Cajun sauce, which I have not even heard of at other places.  Just too good for me to properly describe.

I also got a burger.  Again, more choices than I would expect in a little bar.  I got the one with pork roll on top of the beef patty.  And not just a thin little slice of pork roll.  It was thinker than the thick Taylor pork roll we get at the market.  Great combination.

I tried three of the beers that they had on tap, and enjoyed each one.  It seems that they change them often enough to keep everyone happy and not get bored.

The service was great.  Even though there was only the bar tender taking care of everyone, I never felt that we were not taken care of at our table.  One time I went to the bar to get another beer and she told me that she would bring it to my table.  I was more than willing to wait for it, but she told me that it was OK and to sit and enjoy myself.

It was our first time there, but won't be our last.

My fiance had the wings and I ordered the crab cakes. I tried a wing and was instantly jealous. I think I'll be getting wings from now on when we go there. DELICIOUS. Best wings I've ever had actually ... aside from Byrne's which I also love. I can't wait to try their different sauces. Casual bar, no pretensions. Great place to watch a baseball game (as we did). They also played awesome music, which is always appreciated. I can't wait to go back.

As has been mentioned, the beer selection and the wings are great.  In fact, the wings are definitely the best in the area, and the only place that I can think of that gives Jack's a run for their money is Tangier over on Lombard in Philadelphia.  The only non-standard flavor I've ever tried were the Honey-Carib, which were good, but I see no reason to ever venture outside of the standard mild and hot.  I've also tried the crab cakes and the burger and have had surprising success with both.

Parking sucks, the booths are uncomfortable and whether due to acoustics or inebriation, it always manages to be the loudest place on Earth, but the beer and the food make it worth it.

not from the area but founf this place after a long day of work in levittown. awesome. got to sit at the bar and watch the phillies on a flat screen while eating a burger and chips.
fantastic burger, a greasey blob of hand-shaped meat covered in gooey cheese and begging to give me unhealthy levels of cholesterol.  oh well, it was really good. charbroiled to a medium perfection. and the scottish ale from the tap was heavenly. a perfect meal if you are a relentless beer swilling carnivore like myself.

Union Jack's has sponsered my basketball team for the past few years.  We try to go there after each game for food and some drinks.  They've always been good to us!  The servers are always kind.  Their wings are freakin awesome.  I've had their quesadillas a few times, too, and I could eat them all night!  Old bay fries with cheese are a killer.  All of the food I've ever eaten here has been awesome!  Unfortunately I haven't tried all of their beers.  We usually just get pitchers of lager (gotta replace the calories we just burnt off, of course!).

They have an outdoor section, too that's screened off (or has plastic or something to keep it warm).  We usually sit out there and watch games that are on.  The only thing wrong is their horrible parking.  The parking lot sucks, but there's usually street parking on the sides.  I don't even try the lot (and that's during the week).

This is a beer lover's bar. Great selection that is constantly on the move with news things coming in. They also have the best wings for miles and miles.

My major complaint is that they need some place online to announce their beer list and events. I want to give them my money I just need to know the best times!

aww I miss their wings! Crunchy & yummy. Fairly priced pub, and the beer selection is pretty good for such a small place.  I worked in London, and Union Jacks is definitely the closest thing in the US to London.  Recommend it if you are looking for a low key night to just chill and have fun.

I've lived in London before for almost a year now, and what I miss most about it is the pub culture. The idea of having that hole in the wall place that might be a bit dirty, might have a few creepers, and might smell of stale beer... but is still dear to your heart. In London I had the Hobgoblin (see review of that!)

Here, in Glenside, I would say Union Jacks is the closet thing, in this area, that americans have gotten right about pub culture. It has a decent selection of beers, usually changing their draft beers every so often, and very typical bar/pub food. Comfort food for the man next door type of place.

Best place to pick up some wings and fries when you just need some greasy goodness. We like to sit at the bar, order takeout, and have a few cocktails while we wait.

The best craft beer selection in the northwestern suburbs of Philadelphia.  Though to the surprise of many, beer may not be the greatest thing associated with this Pub.  It's the wings.  Believe the hype.  Grab napkins, beers, and prepare to get messy with some of the crispiest, sauciest, tastiest, whatever "iest", wings in the area; get em' hot.  If you've got the grapefruits, go for the suicide sauce.

Parking can be a problem, but it's worth it.  The crowd is young and it's a great place to watch an Eagles game in the burbs.

Union Jack's would have gotten a solid 4-stars from me if they hadn't enclosed the patio.  It was the only place I new of in Glenside where you could drink beer outside on a nice day. Still, the two times I've been there it has been a nice place to relax.  Several real beers on tap, tasty wings, friendly staff, and a non-obnoxious crowd.  Now that the Blue Comet is gone, this will probably be my first choice if I want to go out in Glenside - not that there is a ton of competition!

PS: For patio drinking in the area, you can try Fatty's in Wyndmoor or the Drake Tavern in Jenkintown. If there are others, let me know!

What is Flourtown really lacking?  How about a place to get great beer and wings...

Good thing Glenside is a 7 minute drive - a drive that ends with the best wings around (sorry mcmennimen's) and tasty beers with rotating taps.

Want a big IPA that'll make you feel warm and fuzzy, talkative but not loud, drunk but not wasted?  How about some wings that have some crunch and spice and aren't vulture sized?  UJ's is your place.

Burgers and FF's are good - FF's handcut....

Go there soon and drink up.

My husband's local place of choice for wings.  They are "naked", meaning that they have only spice on them prior to cooking, no breading.  Deep fried, then tossed in sauce.  You can get foo-foo sauces, like teriaki or garlic butter, but he is a manly man & prefers "hot", with "suicide" on the side.  Has your lips throbing now, and gives an afterburn tomorrow, if you get my drift.

Beer selection is excellent, with many on tap.  Other food is aveage, but is good enough to provide a base for your alcohol consumption.  I do like their O rings, however.  Real rings, batter fried, and served with a tangy pinky sauce.

The back porch is great in the summer; looks like a favorite place for local softball teams after the game.  In the winter, it's a good place to come and watch the game while your wife has the TV monopolized with reality shows.

The wings are also available as take-out.  You can drop by, place your order & have a few brewskis while you wait.  And if your car is a lemon, that 1-800-lemon guy is right across the street.  Talk about one-stop shopping.

What do I say? Excellent beer selection. Outside seating during warm season. And the best wings this side of the pecos. Plus blue cheese dressing you would eat all by itself.
I can't tell you all the varieties of beer, you must come and see for yourself. The staff is always accomodating to any reasonable request. But they won't take your crap.
