Had to rewrite my review for this Tucson bar that is one of my favorites.  Not for twinks, unless you can hang out with people older than 40.  Not for people who think "leather" means that everyone is walking around like a Tom of Finland etching -- it's more like Levi and leather friendly.  Great patio, and in the long time I have been a patron, I have always found the bartenders to be helpful and considerate.  I have never witnessed coercion on the part of patrons, and the bar-staff has always kicked out people who are not respectful of others (yes I've seen them kick out the people that were disrespectful of others).

I concur with Matt H.  We just moved here 10 months ago.  At the same time, in all fairness to Venture-N, there isn't a gay bar in Tucson that I'd recommend.  Gay life as a married gay couple trying to hang with other gays, is absolutely nihl in Tucson.  The city's gay scene sucks.  We couldn't decide whether to laugh or cry when we attended 2012 Tucson Gay Pride.  Instead, we just got drunk out of despair.  Haven't tried Phoenix yet.  Tucson is about 20 years behind rest of nation.  Just look at the friggin roads here.  And I grew up in a small, backwards town with 4 stop lights.  But shame on Tucson leaders - ministers, politicians, university and churches -- for their overall backwardness and apathy, for their not diligently promoting dignity for all. Can't believe people choose to live in Tucson.  As soon as can find a job outa here gonna move!

A very horrible place if you want to be respected and have good service. It has to be one of the most terrible establishments in Tucson. I hear people get 86'd for not wearing the right clothes and or not being part of the "in" crowd.....whatever that is. I wouldn't recommend this bar at all. Go elsewhere you will really enjoy the other gay locations in Tucson.

Incredibly creepy barfly types at all hours.  Rude bartenders who expect you to give a little (you know what I'm getting at) to get your drink made the right way.  A downright frightening narrow hallway to another equally skeevy bartender running another bar.  Oh, sure, younger guys go there too, but in packs.  A hundred times safer than going alone, which I did but I'm also tall and built like a linebacker -- and I know how to defend myself.

And the "back patio".  Honestly, if there's a location the vice squad in Tucson probably knows in their sleep, it's this place.  Why none of the previous reviewers mentioned that guys go wandering off to the corners to have sex -- or on the night I went, the couple getting oral sex performed on each other next to the fire pit -- I'll never know.

I've given this place multiple chances since I moved here in 2004 and it's consistently been a place where I wouldn't be surprised if there haven't been a few instances of "enticement by force."  (Indeed, I had several guys tell me when I moved here to be careful going alone as rumors swirled about some regulars not taking "no" for an answer...)

If I could have given this place 0 stars, I would have.

    Update:

I stand by my review.  Jose, being an owner, has a financial and personal stake in the bar; why wouldn't he defend (or make excuses for) what goes on there?  As for this alleged "daily log," one wonders if it came down to a question of perspective, would the powers that be allow it to be reviewed by the public?  In the name of "safety," of course.

As for the "rumors" about the Venture-N, there is always truth in every rumor.  Given that I heard about the *same* events from different people -- who've never met each other -- months apart, and mentioned to me as a caution...what's that say?  Just coincidence?  I doubt it.

To Kevin: You clearly don't get down from Forest Lakes very often (or maybe you're still in Iowa), but Venture-N is NOT the only bar that gives back to the community. Do your homework.

This place is just okay.  I love bear/cub/leather bars and this is the only one we have in Tucson.  The crowd tends to be a little bit older, and I have found on certain nights there are more bears/cubs than others... it really depends on the night you go....  The inside is really small, so my boyfriend and I normally go out back to the patio which is nice.

(This review is based on a visit four years ago.)

Decent if not older crowd for a Saturday night.

I seem to recall a lot of tables in back in the firepit area.

People seemed kind of friendly - if not in their own cliques.

Crowds got restless around 12:30 - last call. (This was when Tucson closed the bars at 1.)

Nice place to sit back and relax. (And watch your friend's boyfriend run into all of his ex's for some odd reason.)

I did not visit this place (lack of time) during the '07 Tucson tour. Perhaps next time.

From my memories, a solid 3. Nothing stood out.

So I walk into a leather bar in Tucson with my boss and humpy twink coworker and I knew I wasn't in San Francisco anymore. First of all, I was the only one wearing leather and they were my white leather flip flops. Second, there were no hunky, caged go go boys being beaten to trancey techno. Third, the only buttcrack I saw was from the sweet bartender who had just moved there from SAN FRANCISCO. I wore more leather when I modeled for Stormy then what was being sported by the 'daddies' in this well lit leather bar! And I'm not a big girl, so a vest or cap would have sufficed. For shame Tucson, for shame!

On the plus side, there is a nice patio in the backyard with a firepit, the boys are very sweet, and they cleared the bathroom (disappointing) and put the seat down (brownie points) when I had to pee. So three spanks for courtesy.
