I'm going to call this place the "Oasis of Camden," but that's not saying much. A friend and I stopped by to grab a quick bite before the Cirque du Soleil show, and to our surprise, this place was packed! From our walk from the PATCO station until then, we saw no liveliness. We thought, "Thank god there are alive people here, let's hop in and hope we stay safe."
SERVICE:
We found a small table by the bar after being told to sit at the bar because there are no tables. From there was a downhill trend for service. We waited about 5 minutes to get the menu, then another 5 minutes waiting for the drink menu. Our appetizers (the only we got) took about 20 minutes to get to us, and when they arrived, where on earth were the utensils and napkins? I ate with my fingers and left with no option but to use my hand sanitizer to clean off the oil off my finger from the calamari. My friend who ordered a salad had no option but to wait yet another couple minutes for her fork to arrive. Finally, to end the night, we received the check from the table next to us... Oh I almost forgot, I was turned down when I asked for two plastic bags. It was pouring outside, and I really didn't want my leather boots to get stained. That sucked...
FOOD:
Mediocre at most. The calamari was okay. My friend's salad looked disappointing for being more than $10. Honestly, we were not here for the food. We wanted to find a place to stay safe in Camden.
AMBIANCE:
It was surprisingly crowded, and that is always a good thing for a bar. Otherwise you're going to be afraid of being robbed or food poisoned. I'm guessing most people were here for the show as the restaurant emptied at about 8pm.
RECOMMENDATION:
I would honestly recommend this place because there is no other option; hence the 3-star, and not 2-star, rating. There is a sketchy food mart on the other side of the apartment building, but seeing there were three police cars parked there, I wouldn't recommend it. Come here for a drink and appetizer, but come here with plenty of time to spare, otherwise your show might just begin before you even get the fork to eat your food.
I live about 40 min from here on a normal day, but due to it's primo location to the Susquehanna, Amy A. and I have been here several times! I love that you can come to this bar, park in their lot, and then just walk to the concert venue without having to pay for any parking! The bar and the restaurant is pretty huge. Service has always been fairly good. Bartenders have always been attentive, even on our last visit when the place went from slow to crazy busy for no apparent busy.
I can't speak too much about the food, only ordering an appetizer here or there when my face started to get a little too numb from the beerskis. My favorite has been the garlic hot wings. SO good. Super, intensely garlicky, and I vaguely remember the wings were a good size.
Will continue to keep coming back when in the area!
With so few options in Camden, Victor's is an okay place if you want to grab a beer. The food is typical bar food and not that good. Â The french fries are very salty. Â Their buffalo chicken salad is a good choice. Â The service is always very slow and the waitresses are not friendly and not attentive. Â It is kind of like a bad version of PJ Whelihan's. Â There good points are: free parking in a lot across the street, good options for beer, nice view of Philadelphia.
Review Source:It's great to see downtown Camden is developing to a better tourist spot. This place has a great location close to the adventure aquarium, the riversharks ballpark, the battleship, and the riverline light rail. My experience could have been better. I order the regular cheeseburger with onions, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise on the side of fries and a dill pickle. Not only was my Burger not medium-well like I ask them to, but they forget to put my pickles and onions and my fries were cold as if they were sitting there for 15 minutes. My group and I are going to give this place another try, hopefully my experience won't be as mediocre as last time.
Review Source:I asked whether they use Coke or Pepsi. The waitress said "RC, we have to be cheap because we offer refills." That's what this place is about. They try to be as cheap as possible, and it shows. The place is nearly empty at lunchtime. Most menu items are expensive. I ordered the daily special sandwich and got a small sandwich and a bag of potato chips. At least take them out of the bag so I don't feel like I'm in a cafeteria? The waitress refilled my drink once promptly and I had to get up and chase after her for the next refill. Food is decently good, though I doubt they make any of it themselves. Probably all frozen and microwaved. You know, to be cheap. The only way this place can stay in business is due to cheap rent and taxes in Camden. As soon as anyone else wants to move into the waterfront, I can only hope the pub goes out of business.
Review Source:Victors Pub is located in Camden by the Waterfront. It's across the street from Campbell's Field and the Aquarium. It's a short walk to Susquehanna. I've gone there about 10 ten times over the course of a couple of years. I've had a pleasurable experience many times. I've experienced some slow service or a small mix up in the order, but I overall it's a great place to grab a bite to eat or sit at the bar.
The food is typical bar/pub food. It's not fabulous, but it's good. Prices are lower than I would have expected given the location and they have really good drink specials at the bar. I've had many of the appetizers. Recently I had the chicken quesadilla's minus the olives. They were good, a little salty, but I didn't have a problem finishing them. I also had the loaded waffle fries, and they do not skimp on the cheese. Very filling, even if the portion looks a little small, they will fill you up. I've also had the Greek Sandwich. I love anything Greek and I was not disappointed in this sandwich.
It is kid friendly during the day. They have a nice kids menu. I think it's a little expensive, but it's better than the food at the aquarium, so I can't complain too much.
Victor's Pub is a great place to go before going to a show for a few drinks or after spending the day at the aquarium.
I have vowed never to come back to think place, but my friend and his co-worker seem to want to find the closest watering hole after work and this is it. I stopped by after work the other day and still the same thing. I ten to get a different service based on the color of my skin.
I do not recommend anyone with dark skin coming to this place. As I will not be returning. It's a shame because the view from sitting at the bar is amazing, The Ben Franklin Bridge and Philly waterfront. Great free parking but that were the greatness STOPS!
Pluses - clean place, reasonably priced drinks, friendly service. Â One of the few places you can go after work for a drink in Camden and not constantly feel like your are about to be robbed or shot
Minuses - the food isn't very good...the most charitable thing I could say is that it is inconsistent. Â The seating isn't set up very well if you have more than a few people in your group.
It's a weird vibe of after-workers, hipsters that live in apartments upstairs and colorful locals.
I'll come here for the drinks but go elsewhere for food.
I've been to this establishment a handful of times, and each time, I continue to not be impressed. Â The food is good (sweet potato fries) and the beer selection is adequate, though nothing special. Â Beers are pretty cheap, which is great. Â
My main issue is with the pub staff. Â My list trip to the Victor was on a Friday night, between the hours of 530 and 1030pm. Â There were three women working the bar, and it was so hard to get a drink refill. Â Checking makeup in the register reflection and checking facebook on phones seemed to be more important than checking in on customers. Â We sat at the back side of the bar, and the bartenders seemed to only care about their phones and the front side of the bar. Â It took 10 minutes of intense staring at our bartender to get her to acknowledge us, come over, and close our tab.
Overall, I'm wildly disappointed in the service. I'll go back, but I won't be excited.
I work right around the corner and i make a monthly visit to the victor since it is in the local establishment rotation. Continuing with the review, i believe the service could be much more refined to the customers requests. I witness all staff members standing at the corner of the bar chatting it up with the owner sam. I believe pleasing customers first would make a bar owner happy rather than making him laugh, i may be mistaken.
I will shed light on the salads and the paninis, i recommend the greek panini and a house salad. Both are reasonably priced and full of flavor.
Located in downtown Camden, Victors has amazing views of Philly and the Ben franklin bridge. Â There is also ample parking across the street in their lot. Â Inside, it's spacious and tons of space at the bar. Â Nice hangout spot for the area if you don't feel like crossing the bridge into Philly.
However the food I had was not so great. Â I had the turkey and cheese panini but the turkey was very dry. Â It just didn't taste good. Â I had to dip it in the honey BBQ sauce that came with my fries before every bite to mask the weird turkey meat. Â The sweet potato fries were a def plus, I highly recommend adding it to your entree for the extra $1.50. Â Also, I've had the quesadilla before -- it's big enough for an entree if u prefer.
Maybe I just chose the wrong entree but the food here is average.
Spent 20 regrettable minutes in here last night waiting to get served, but the 1 bartender (how could they have 1 bartender?!?) didn't really seem interested in serving anyone & kept disappearing. Â He moved in slow motion when he was there, maybe pouring 2 or 3 beers during that time. Â We eventually left & vowed never to return. Â If you should ever find yourself in Camden, just cross the bridge to Philly.
Review Source:This place is literally 5 minutes from my house, and has been here for years, but it wasn't until recently my friend wanted to go here for her birthday that i actually stepped foot inside. it is not crowded AT ALL. so if thats what your looking for, don't go. it's more slow placed and relaxing. doesn't have that nasty "bar smell" at all. i did not drink from here. but i did order food. i admit, i was drunk upon arrival, so the food that i ate, i thought was INCREDIBLE. a week later, i remembered how good i thought the food was, so i went back to see with a sober palate. just as i remembered, drunk or not, the food was good! i had a chicken ceasar wrap, which was the BEST i've ever had. their homemade dressing has a hint of sweetness that just pulls it all together. i've also had the spicy fries, which literally are a thicker version of the chickie and petes fries. with the same cheese dipping sauce and all. VERY GOOD. but my favorite were the sweet potato fries that come with honey bbq dipping sauce. these fries are EVERYTHING! upon walking to my car in their alotted lot, the car parked next to mine had people having sex, with no window tints! you could see EVERYTHING! they saw us, and didn't care... hilarious, and nasty... but definitely will be going back. Upon going back, my hopes were let down. I sat at the bar for drinks this time, and while sitting, i saw a roach crawling all over the spouts of the liquor bottles. When i mentioned it to the bartender, she seemed uninterested, and did nothing but mention that she sees them all the time while at work. Needless to say, i haven't been back...Which is sad because i really liked this place.
Review Source:Nothing special about this spot to write home about. It is a cool place to run and grab lunch if you work or go to school in the downtown/waterfront area of Camden. I actually did go for a late lunch with a few colleagues, 2:30. The place was not crowded at all. there were a few people in there before we arrived, maybe 5. I ordered basic bar food; wings and fries, that were very good. The food arrived about 10 minutes after ordering, fresh surprisingly. Â Will go again for lunch. I'm sure that's the first, of many visits to this local spot that many of the professionals and university students of the area frequent.
Review Source:Ho hum. Nothing special. Nothing horrible. Standard pub / diner fare done in an ok manner. You know, the turkey on the club sandwich is prepackaged deli turkey, etc.
Uninspired and sterile environment.
Not a bad choice if you're on the Camden waterfront in need of food or drink. But certainly no reason to go out of your way to get here.
Awesome views of center city, equal to those from the Ben Franklin Bridge pedestrian walk. I think people from the Jersey suburbs often forget how picture-perfect Philly can be.
It's conveniently located near waterfront attractions. Reminds me of McFadden's, but maybe it's just the proximity to the ballpark. Crowd is primarily white guys in suits and white blue-collar guys. Service was good. Food was OK, but nothing awesome (although surprisingly it didn't seem like there were a lot of other restaurant options). Someone in my party got the summer salad that looked good. I would try that if I went again.
Parking was across the street and there was tons of it, considering we went for a business lunch. Pedestrian traffic on the street was almost nonexistent.
I walked in on a bad day for these folks. Â Two of their servers called out sick, and the other two were running between tables like mad. Â A few tables sat unbussed; probably a sign of what the service was going to be.
I was pleasantly surprised, under the circumstances. Â The two waitresses were doing their best, despite the lame call outs. Â What that probably says to me is that service is spotty because you're either going to get these super dedicated hard-working servers, or you're going to have these folks who call out of work on a nice day. Â
Beautiful view of the Philadelphia skyline. Â The sweet potato fries were extremely tasty and served with BBQ sauce. Â I did not care for the Veggie Wrap that I ordered.
I want to like the Victor. I really do! I go to Rutgers and I want to be able to go to the local bar down the road after a long week of classes, have a good meal/drinks, and relax. No matter how many times I go to the Victor, I still can't get over their prices. They are WAY TOO HIGH for rather mediocre tasting food. We have also been here on more than one occasion when the service was terrible. We actually had to ask where the waitress was! Finally, there is no way that I can pay my respects to a place that doesn't serve Heinz Ketchup! Come on! I would give The Victor 2.5 stars. Since I can't do that, I would usually round up to 3, but in a case like this, they are closer to the 2 star mark. For better food that won't kill your wallet, check out the Friends Cafe or Jordan's Place.
Review Source:Hailing from Boston, anywhere with beer costing less than $5 is fantastic. Actually, anywhere featuring drink specials is great, considering Boston is still a Puritan town. However, like all the establishments in this area, the location screams of trying to be a nice building in a shady ass block.
Three stars because the food is good as far as bar food goes--in particular the bay fries--and the drink specials wow me, minus 2 because one can't be sure there won't be curb stomping once you step outside.
This place is all about location, location, location (and the views)! But, it comes at a price. This place is in walking distance to Campbell's Baseball Field, The Camden Adventure Aquarium, and the Susquehanna Bank Center. The restaurant and bar have large windows for great views of the waterfront, Ben Franklin Bridge, and Philly skyline.
The service here is usually good. The bar is huge, really, cool, and has a great beer selection. They run daily lunch specials. Some of the soups I tried were overpriced and not very good. The salads are large and tasty. But, look to spend over $10 for a salad. The bar food here is usually pretty good. They have outdoor seating in the warm months. This is one of the few places in Camden to go on a business lunch.
I was trying to decide between a 2 star and 3 star because basically, the service at this place SUCKS but I am in a generous mood so 3 stars it is.
The food is pretty good -- a touch over priced BUT I admit the nachos and the hot and garlic wings are where it's at -- fabulous!!! The mussels are also pretty good, as is the artichoke dip.
The drinks are okay too and if you are looking for a deal just ask for the specials but be careful. The specials only apply to certain parts of the bar... a fact which they may or may not tell you upfront.
Again, service pretty much sucks. I did have one server there that really stood out in comparison to others but, had he worked at another bar his service would have been considered pretty standard. Unfortunately, there aren't too many options for food and drinks after class in Camden (yet) so I continue to go back in spite of the shoddy service. If this place were in Philly it'd probably be a 1 or 2 visit type of place and I'd be over it.
Been there on several occasions with coworkers, the service is very slow..food is OK, but nothing to write home about. Rather go elsewhere. Close to my job, but they get slower & slower all the time. Do they know were are on 1 hr lunch only?!?!!! Drinks..Ehh..
The food is OK, but the prices , I guess its near waterfront, newly re-vamped CAmden area..so its a little pricier then most..I didnt care for prices., not my 1st choice.
I feel as though this bar fell short of the level of trendiness it was trying to achieve. Â The food is a little overpriced, and the menu had missing items a few times I've been there (typically the death knell of a restaurant, when it either can't stock or won't stock its menu items).
I would think that it would be busier, being close to the University District. Â The beer is cheap enough and the view is good. Â When full of patrons, it's kind of cool. Â When empty, it's downright creepy- it's big and quiet and faintly industrial-looking. Â Some tasteful partitions or indoor plants, perhaps, could clear up the feeling that you are in an abandoned factory clutching a ten-dollar sandwich. Â (Oh wait, you are.)
Went to Camden for business today and had lunch at Victor's. The restaurant is on the ground floor of an old RCA building with a great view of the Ben Franklin Bridge and the skyline of Philadelphia. It was overcast and rainy so the tops of the bridge towers were hidden in the clouds - neat.
The restaurant itself was fairly crowded and the lunch menu extensive. I had the Victor Burger which was excellent - especially the fries. Looks like a nice place for dinner or drinks since the bar is large with numerous flat screens scattered about.
Huge parking lot across the street which is free! Within walking distance of the Aquarium and battleship New Jersey and the light rail (River Line) passes right in front of the restaurant.
I know, I know... It's not in Philadelphia... but it's a lot closer than some of those Bucks County spots, you know?
So a few friends and I went to meet up with a few friends early on Sunday evening and I'd say this is the type of place to do it. Spacious, a million TVs (and they'll gladly turn over the remote), a decent menu (although I've never seen a menu where every other page is paid advertising), a VERY fully stocked bar, etc.
We had a ton of plates circulating... shrimp, wings, fries, salads, apple pie, chocolate covered cheesecake...
The fries were pretty good, but the desserts were the best, though. The shrimp tempura was more tempura than shrimp, lol, but the spicy dipping sauce was great. The teriyaki wings were better than the buffalo wings, but even they were pretty good.
There was a comedy show going on at the other end of the restaurant - dinner, show and open bar for $55 - so they muted the TVs, and the sound system there sucks, so they weren't using mics... that part sucked cuz we couldn't hear a thing. lol
