Went here with my co-ed softball team after a game. It was nice out, so we sat outside. The bar was pretty full with people watching the Blackhawks game. We ordered drinks shortly after being seated. It took at least 15 minutes for our server to come back with the waters, nothing else. He dropped off the water and went back inside to get the other drinks which took another 5 minutes (we ordered a total of 5 beers for the table). He then took our food order. The food came out warm, and everyone's order was correct. I had a buffalo chicken sandwich. It was good, but nothing amazing. Everyone else also seemed to like their food. I will definitely give this place another shot, but hopefully the service will be better next time.

We stopped here because we had a coupon from the Entertainment book and we wanted a deal. We came by on a very rainy Sunday afternoon. There were maybe a dozen people at the bar area (mid-March). We were told that there was a drink special ($5 for a HUGE Sam Adams) so we ordered those and also wings were 50c each and pizza was 1/2 off. We we put the coupon away and went with the specials. The buffalo hot wings, are HOT. But very good, and messy! Lots of sauce and lots of meat on each wing. The 10 inch pizza was on a dinner plate, we ordered the barbecue chicken. It was very good, sweet sauces and a good mix of chicken and cheese. We left full and spent less than $30. We will be back also long as we can get great deals like this.

As gathered from the earlier reviews, this place can be a paradox.  The food can be great while the service is clearly a crapshoot.  We ate here most recently on a Saturday night at about 8:30 and it was almost dead in the dining room.   The food was pretty good this time - the Italian Melt sandwich was great, and my wife's Patty Melt burger was ok.  The Buffalo Chicken fingers, one of our common orders in the past are still a winner after all these years.  Service was fair - eager but not always attentive - no refills on drinks unless we asked etc.   Oddly, we had a "Free Entree - $5 max (nothing is that cheap)" Entertainment coupon, and they rang it up as 20% - or $4.20, off.  Strange, but not a surprise for this disorganized establishment.  Be forwarned but not affraid.

Oh my gawd, where to begin? We (my sister, a friend and myself) were hosting a wedding shower for my nephew and his fiancee. We didn't have a ton of money to spend & our houses were too small to accomodate the number of people attending.
We've all been here for a quick lunch or dinner so knew they served decent food and the party room was nice.
To begin with, the room was absolutely freezing. Many of the guests sat bundled in coats. We complained three times to the owner. He finally adjusted the thermostat. The temperature finally became tolerable once the gifts were opened and the party was nearly over.
The food, what there was of it, was ok. I'm not expecting Allgauer's, you know?
Guests were standing in line so long, many simply gave up. There was one small chafing dish of dried out chicken breasts swimming in a lemon sauce, another with penne in red sauce and  an alfredo. For 40 people!
Constant nagging didnt get the food out any faster. I realize they had to cook it first but if you are serving so many peoople, you need to be organized. This is food service at its worst.
People stood for five, ten minutes while the server bvrought one little pan of chicken. The alfredo ran out. They brought mac and cheese alfredo as a substitute. The salad was iceberg mix on top, slimy mesclun on the bottom. I didn't know the salad had toppings, there were simply three empty bowls with what I learned later were shredded cheese and croutons. There was no grated pamesan for the pastas.
Pitchers of drinks ran out quickly...broken soda machine, coffee maker, tea maker, whatever...instant tea and instant coffee.
The topper, I think, was the bowl of garlic brread interspersed with wayward chicken fingers! Not sure if they were simply a mistake or if the staff grabbed them off plates and threw them in to be spiteful. I did eat one and it was tasty and tender, unlike the chicken breasts. So that's a positive. Maybe we should've served chicken fingers and potato skins.
When it came to pony up, we had a major bitch session with the owner, who refused to take anything off the bill, despite the failings of his kitchen and staff.  His response was an unconcerned apology and a retort of "Well, what do you want? You ate the food."
Yes, some of us ate the food but there wasn't enough and it wasn't served fast enough for the long line of guests.
The owner said "We serve this way all the time. I just had a party for 85 people and they had no complaints."
For $20 a head, I expect better than this!!!

The only plus...they allowed us to bring in our own desserts. It would've been better if they let us simply use the room and cater it ourselves but then they couldn't charge $20 a head, could they?

Finally, the restrooms.  These are not the ones in the locker room, these are just off the entrance to the restaurant. There was no soap in the dispensers (the owner vehemently disagreed and told us to pump i t, which we did and no, it didn't work!!) and the stench of sewer gas and urinal cake was overwhelming. There was also a used IV bag in the ladies room and I don't want to know what that was about.
The owner claims the village is responsible for the bathroom.
I guess the village will be getting a call on Monday.

For chicken fingers, yes. For a casual party, definitely NOT.

Years and many owners ago, they had the best chicken fingers around. Today the chicken fingers are still featured prominently on the menu, but the product is not the same. Went on a Saturday night and walked right in, over half the tables were empty, should have been our first clue. Service was terrible, server was extremely slow even getting our drink order, main course arriving before salad, food cold, inattentive server. Tried to speak with the manager, but he offered no assistance..

Try the chicken fingers with the honey mustard sauce, you will thank me.  The Adult Mac & Cheese is good as well.  the menu is a decent size, and the drink specials are nice.  The staff can be a little forgetful because most of them are high school students, but if you can get over that its a good place.

My experience with the Village Grill & Tavern has been a long one.  I used to work here at one point even back in high school (2001-2002ish). The management has changed hands several times over the years and I think that has really hurt them as they are currently no where near as busy as they have been in the past.

The worst thing at this place has always been the service. My family and friends always joke that its a crapshoot as to what you'll get that day. Sometimes the service is just fine and attentive while the other half could care less if your there or not.

What always kept us coming back was the food, I love their chicken fingers and honey mustard sauce. This stuff is really diffrent from anything else you'll get anywhere and is pretty much the only thing on the menu still worthwhile of getting. I haven't been too crazy about anything else I've tried, its all pretty mediocre outside of the fingers and any dish that incorporates the fingers into them.

When there's events nearby iin the area the bathroom facilities become horrendous as they are basically in the golf course club house so everyone and their mother's brother goes in to use them and the paying patrons get stuck in line with everyone else.

I really don't see this as a place that will be around much longer and really needs a true management shake up that can really innovate and improve the service.

My friend and I decided to try some place else for lunch one weekend this past fall. We ultimately picked this place and upon walking in, we couldn't help but notice a strong, musty bleach odor. We initially thought that it would be contained in the front end of the restaurant and we'd be fine at our seats. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The place was rather sparse with a few people trickling in. After plopping down our waters, the waiter never came back to follow up, after we told him we needed more time. After glancing at the menu while immersed in this awful smell, we couldn't muster up an appetite to eat there. We got up and left.
This was the first time that I ever had to leave a restaurant prior to ordering.

This restaurant has changed over the years.  We recently re-visited it after quite a while.  The buffalo chicken strips are the best I've ever had back then and now!  This is a good place to go with kids for a great value and food from a non-chain restaurant!
