Great beer selection and a lot of TV's when you want to watch a game.

The burgers and BBQ chicken sandwich are outstanding and put this place solidly in my rotation.

The staff is attentive and generally remembers what you are drinking.

One of the times I was in, there was a beer pong table set up if that's your thing. If not, it was well out of the way of the main bar/table area.

This is a place only to go to if your idiot friends drag you here.

    - The wings suck. "hot" sauce I could serve to my 2 year old, breaded before fried, and taste like dog excrement.

    - The waitresses are lame. Expect the only interaction to be your drink order- they have no interest in you, or your friends. Good looking gals- but with an arrogance their intellects do not merit;  If they were ugly, they'd be working the late night at Duane Reade.

    - The crowd sucks. Diversity is perhaps the only thing going for it- otherwise it's your standard 24 year old, zog sports/beer pong crowd.

    - The TV's suck; small, some not in HD, and not well located.

I'm sorry that most of you will have your personality-bereft, lame ass friends drag you here at some point.

Great prices for Manhattan, always a drink special going on.
If ordering food, you must swap out your fries for tater tots. Tater tots.. yes return to your 10 year old self. They're amazing.

Can be very busy on sports nights and hard to get a table. Waitresses also get stretched a little thin. I often go with a big group, and we are often unsuccessful because its so crowded. Call ahead if you are traveling to get there or with a group.

    Wow. Truly amazing beer selection.

I had their rough dead guy, which was great.

I wasn't impressed by the food, though. I only tasted their cheddar burger, which was underwhelming, on the dry side, and the fries were soft and not fresh.

A cool place to hand out with friends watching some sports.

I came here with some girlfriends on Monday for Bingo.. yup, Bingo, lol.

Bingo was surprisingly fun, and super inexpensive.

Although we did not win, we enjoyed drinks (some free because we were playing bingo), junk food and good conversation!! I hear the chicken wings are awesome, but did not indulge. I had a garden salad, which was surprisingly great and had awesome house dressing!

Fun way to spend a Monday night.

    ****For New Years Only
So kinda odd to give a review for this day of the year but my experience was so wonderful that I have to give The Village Pourhouse some love.

My boyfriend and I were seriously procrastinating about what to do for new years and he sent me a pulsed link for half off their NYE open bar.  So it being Dec. 30 I bought them right away.  We got free open bar from 9pm-1am (any type of alcohol except for the really expensive scotch but we aren't really scotch fans), party favors, and some bubbly at midnight. Only $25 each.  At that point I didn't really care about something fancy or lavish, I just wanted to have a good time and be with him.

So we arrive and the place is fairly empty, but the bar filled up as the night went along.  The space is very large with two bars and a lot of seating especially if you're with a group.  We had zero issues getting drinks at the bar and overall the crowd was great.  Everyone including the bartenders and staff were great.

Whoever was letting people in really needs to teach other bars how to do their job.  The place had just the right amount to people.  JUST the right amount to make the space full but not so much that I had to shove myself through a crowd.

We also had some wings and chicken fingers to munch on.  Bar prices were typical for food.  The wings were fine but the chicken fingers were very burnt and chewy.

But even chewy chicken fingers could not ruin my night.  They through a fantastic NYE party and I would very much consider coming back next year if I still live in Manhattan.

If you're looking for a place to get wasted, you've found it. Great drinks!!! I bought two tickets to party here on New Years Eve and had a good time.

The Pourhouse is like the definition of a college bar, which is never a bad thing.

Pros: The drinks are super cheap, great happy hour, and the servers are super nice

Cons: It smells like a frat basement, its a bit cold in the winter, and did I mention it smells like a frat basement.

Have a round or two and move on.

Everything about this place is perfectly adequate.  It won't be the most amazing, best place ever. This is where you go when you need a "normal" bar.

No gastropub, no hipster dive, no specific demographic, no electronic music pumping through.  This place is a normal, fun, hangout place.

And I love it for that.

In this city, sometimes you need a place for a night out that doesn't feel like a night out. Here it is.

1 star: it's really easy to "win" the raffle for group happy hours
1 star: not completely overrun by CU undergrads

Typical Sports bar and fare. Wings are good, company can be questionable. Service is touch and go at times. Big Giants supporter, so as a Pats fan, you can question my integrity.

Two bar setup, but usually only one side of the bar is open. Great deal on wing special during ball games, but in eating only. Curious what the rest of the menu has to offer, but probably won't drift from the wing selection. Good for a group and a pub crawl.

stumbled upon this place, when a group of 10 of me and my friends were  trying to find a warm place to drink on a chilly chilly night.  After walking around 5 places, atlas we found this haven.

To our surprise and luck, it was ladies night, and martinis, cocktails, and cosmos were half off.  (drinks are half off at 9 pm on thurs and fridays)

It was our friend's celebration and of course we ordered many drinks and shots, and became hungry and ordered the:

    *wings- great wings!
*tater tots - who doesn't love tater tots?

*Pour chips - Deeply fried chips topped with three blends of cheeses, bacon, and ranch. Amazinggingly good, and probably can cause a mini heart-attack.

after that great experience, I have been here and the Village pourhouse (down town) a couple more times and each time, it  has been great.

Also I went to pourhouse when it was "shark week" , and they were serving "shark shots"- blue colored deliciousness in a shot

We did NYE here last night, and it was okay but nothing memorable. Felt a bit awkward trying to dance in the little area between the booths and the bar. The waitresses were very nice though. We paid $4 for the tiniest shot ever, but I'm not sure if they jacked up prices just for NYE or if that is the regular price.

A perfect place to watch your college football and basketball; MLB, NFL etc. Full bar. The beer flows from firehoses. Buckets of wings. Big sandwiches. Jesus, what more can you ask for, you greedy bastards?

Not a bad spot to catch Sunday football...

$20 buckets of bud light... decent food, not great.

I usually walk out of here spending more than other spots - $50-60, but it's one of the few options in the Columbia area.

My kind of spot where the Bud Light drafts are only $2. I came there after work on a Wednesday to meet my bff to do some catching up- we arrived shortly after 5pm an dit was pretty empty. I ordered some appetizers and they took like 40 minutes to come out.

The nachos were cold and they did not have enough topping on them or enough guacamole and salsa! I ordered the sliders sampler with a chicken slider, angus beef and a bacon burger. These are not your normal 1 inch by 1 inch sliders so if you like burgers the sliders are perfect for you.

Had I spent my four years of college in Columbia, I'm sure that Village Pourhouse would have been someplace I'd go to on a semi-regular basis. Not really because it's an amazing bar, but because anything better would require too much effort to get to.

It's your typical sports bar that doubles up as a restaurant on some occasions. I first dropped by a month or so ago to grab a quick bite with a friend who was moving into the area. Because we were short on time, we figured Village Pourhouse would be an adequate solution for us and for the most part, it was. He decided on the Magic 'Shroom Burger (I kid you not) while I ordered the Big Blue Burger. Both came with a side of french fries, all placed in a rather inconvenient basket of sorts... which would have been fine it was just the fries, but made picking up the burger very difficult. The burgers themselves were surprisingly good; they were adequately portioned and flavored, but on the dry side. Typical bar food and reasonably priced at around $11 or $12 bucks a burger.

Thankfully, this visit gave me the opportunity to win a free round of drinks for myself and a group of friends. Upon returning this past Friday night, we found it jam packed, with college kids, but were able to score a table in a slightly quieter section in the restaurant. My friends got Budweiser beers while I asked for a vodka and cranberry; it was extremely strong and not quite to my liking, most likely because the quality of vodka wasn't there. We decided to split some appetizers too. The fries were surprisingly good, and they were generous with the serving as well. Crispy on the outside, but still soft on the inside - yum. The nachos were pretty sub-par though. The cheese was clearly Cheez Whiz and the toppings were lacking in both quantity and flavor.

So there are definitely some hits and misses, but it seems to be a relatively dependable joint that caters to the university crowd.

This was an enjoyable end to my evening.  After dinner at Dinosaur, a large group of us (nearly entirely non-locals) stopped by to have a few drinks.  The service could have been faster, and I was a bit disappointed to find that one or two drinks on the menu were no longer available.  Everything else, though, was fantastic.  Once the beers came, they were cold and good, and the selection--even with omissions--was otherwise pretty fantastic.  I was most excited when the bill came and there was a late night 50% off charge at the bottom of the tab.  And by excited, I mean THRILLED.

I have spent a lot of time here with my soccer team.  Sometimes we have early games on Saturday morning.  At 10:15 we were looking for a bar that was open to celebrate our win.  The Pour House didnt seem to be open yet (they were still pulling chairs down from the table), but they welcomed us in and got us started on our first round of pitchers.  Great service.

The food here is much better than your average bar food.  All sandwiches and burgers are big portions and served with fries.  They also have tater tots (hard to come by in NYC).

The bartenders and wait staff are always very friendly.  They can seem to disappear at times when it gets crowded, but overall they do a good job.

This place is a great to come with a group to catch a game or just hang out and drink.

There is a few of these around these around the city. This one is close to Columbia so a lot of students hang around here, but not as bad as the douche bag NYU kids like the one in the East Village. This place is good because it has a lot of space, a lot of screens, good food, and a large selection of beers, which they have beer flights for and you can even win shirts and such stuff.

The bouncer is pretty vigilant I'd say and always by the door, so probably isn't much luck in getting in if you are underage. This is a fun place and they play good music but the staff are kind of rude. Mostly a bunch of stuck up girls hired for their looks. Its like the offspring of Hooters. 4 stars though, because I love their selection of beers!!

I wanted to like this place. It's so close to my job, there's lots of space, and you can carry on a conversation without shouting. When there isn't a game on, that is. I am not the go to the bar to watch the game type, so I cannot speak to that at all.

What I can speak to is happy hour with my friends after a long day at work. We went on a Thursday. Their happy hour is different each weekday and on Thursday they have a list of drinks that are advertised as being priced "2 for 1." Cool. They also have a full dinner menu. We ordered a couple of apps. Chicken fingers, which were typical sports bar fried food, and spinach and artichoke dip which was served with pita bread and chips and was actually surprisingly good.

I ordered two vodka red bulls and when the bill came, the pair of drinks was listed at $12. We thought that sounded higher than average, and the next time our server was at the table, we asked what the normal price of vodka red bull was. Sever was visibly annoyed by the question and told us the normal price was $8 but the additional charges were $2 for each can of red bull. That would almost be understandable if it had taken two cans of red bull to make two drinks, but since it didn't... come on. Stop it.

If a drink normally costs $8, and you are running a special offering two drinks for the price of one, then the price of two drinks should come to $8. Right? Right. Except at The Village Pourhouse where they do their own math. It would probably benefit them to put some fine print on the menu that lists the drink specials, but then, I'm likely the only asshole who would go here and order a vodka red bull and not a Bud Light or something.

I thought about my old restaurant job and how if I had been the waitress, some mean jerk would probably scream at me and make me cry and I'd have to beg my manager to comp something from the douchebag's bill. Not being the type to argue, we paid our bill, tipped nicely, and left.

Even with the weird drink price experience aside, everything else about this place is pretty average. With so many other bars in the neighborhood, I doubt I'll be back.

Ugh. When I'm up in this neighborhood I typically go to Lions Head because it's a dive I can rely on. However, we ended up at The Village Pourhouse recently, which is apparently isn't such a reliable establishment - unless it's reliably bad.

We sat at the bar to enjoy a couple beers and eat an appetizer. Three of the beers requested were on the menu but not available because they were either out or "at the bar in the other room." We stuck it out and then ordered the appetizer chicken tenders which were not at all what I would consider chicken tenders. They were these two fat flat chicken breasts covered in too much breading that didn't want to stick to the chicken. The whole thing was just bad and - between the two of us - we didn't even finish the portion in front of us. Yuck.

Our seats at the bar also ended up being quite drafty because gaggles of people kept walking in and holding open the doors leading outside elements. Not so hot, in fact, freezing.

I would have given them 2 stars, but someone threw up at the other bar when we were there at about 11:30pm, so 1 star.

If you're stuck in the Upper West Side and need a sure go to spot to catch the game, then you should, without a doubt, head here. It is by no means the greatest sports bar I have ever been to, but they do have a ton of seating and ton of TVs and... SKEE BALL!

We came here on a Friday night around 8pm to watch the Celtics game. The place was just starting to get going. A group of fresh out of college kids were playing beer pong (meh) and there were some loud and obnoxious (and already drunk) guys at the bar. However, the fairly decent draft selection (20 beers on tap and countless others in bottles) satisfied my thirst and before long I was OK with the crowd. $6 a beer for all beers on tap is not anything great, but at least it wasn't $8 for some mediocre light beer.

I can tolerate the spot, but there are better places just a few blocks down (ahem, Amsterdam Tavern) if you're willing to sacrifice space for a better beer selection and a friendlier crowd.

This is the go to bar for Zog sports after games at Edward Reynolds HS. We stopped by after winning our first indoor soccer game! Wahhooo! =)

The special was $10 pitchers of Bud Light. They were able to seat all 9 of us without any issues. We were also right in front of the TV projector, so we caught a couple minutes of the Niners and Saints game.

After burning manymanymany calories (or so I'd like to convince myself) from running around trying to kick the ball we ordered some wings. I would have given pourhouse 4 stars if the wings weren't the size of like my thumb. They were tinytinytiny. Also, I'm from Buffalo so I have higher standards when it comes to wings. Regardless they were mediocre at best. The garlic fries we ordered weren't very garlicky and just tasted like normal fries. Although they looked like they were freshly cut and not frozen.

I'd say come for the beer and the sports bar atmosphere, but skip the food, or rather don't expect great food even by bar standards.

Village Pourhouse is a great place to chill with friends, have a few beers (or martinis on ladies night for $3!), and watch some sports games.

Absolutely love that slider trio combo--the buffalo one is to die for.

The scene consists of mostly Columbia University students, but it doesn't feel like a super young crowd.  Everyone here is just trying to unwind, chat, and chill.

    Good spot.  Good spot.

Tip:  They're always giving away rounds of free-drinks or open bars....just put your name on their e-mail list.

If you are 22, hormonal, and looking to get drunk, this place is AWESOME!  Beer pong, drinks that come in fishbowls*, loud music, waitresses in very small tops, deep fried everything... HEAVEN!  You will want to spend every Thursday - Saturday here, high-fiving your bros and whatnot.

For the rest of the population, there are better places for you.  If you end up here because you were told there is a networking event here and that they have drink specials, you are allowed to have, at most, 2 drinks before you lose all respect for yourself.  If you accidentally end up playing beer pong, please get checked for TB ASAP.  If at all possible, avoid consuming foodstuffs here as you can probably find tastier calories almost anywhere else and the sheer amount of saturated fats will make your cardiologist slap you silly.  Finally, the bathroom is ridiculously small -- to the point where it is actually impossible to sit down without banging your knees on the door.

Oh, if someone steals your coat from your table in the dead of winter while you're in the bathroom, don't expect the staff here to help you in any way.  They are essentially stone-faced bouncer versions of the Three Wise Monkeys** -- useless.  Thanks.

It kind of sounds like my friends and I came on a good day, where it wasn't too crowded, where the noise wasn't too loud, and where the bartender was particularly nice.

Yes, Pourhouse is grungy. But I like it. It reminds me of my college days, and I find that rad. Not for every night, but this night was good.

There is a pretty decent selection on tap though, not that I could see, any beer deals that I felt I could get in on. However, we felt like we could stay for a long time and just be.

One thing, though - do yourself a favor and if you sit in the smaller part of the bar, do NOT sit facing the kitchen. When the phone rings, a practically-seizure-inducing light will blink. It was a bit disconcerting.

Too bad, it's not their fault.  If it were only for the state of the art sports bar technology, good beer and attentive barmaids, this first time patron would have happily apportioned a few more stars.  BUT.

The college cafeteria vibe brought on by a large colorless, cold and obnoxious amoeba of apparent regulars, was sooo disappointing.  We met a few nice folks sprinked in (and we were there of course,) AND as I already said, the staff were ace, but this huge bar was almost chock full of real bad vibe that there was no way around.  What's wrong with these people??  Inadvertent Fail.

PROOF THAT THERE IS A GOD (or some kind of supreme being):
25 cent wings on Monday nights.
    Q.E.D.

No really, think about it. 10 wings for $2.50. You'd have to pay triple that amount at Tom's on Broadway! The wings here are absolutely delicious -- I'm sure there must be some kind of illegal, addictive substance in them, because I'm compelled to keep going back for more. With prices so cheap, it really seems like there's no end to the ephemeral pleasures brought about each succulent, juicy chicken wing. Savor it. Devour it. Grab another. Check, please.

I heard the manager and cronies discussing the hotness of  two girls at the end of the bar, as in "oh, yeah, that's the kind of clientele we want in here! (grunt)" which is fine, but really guys, you couldn't keep it in your pants until you were out of earshot of other people? lazy.

I was most definitely pleased with The Village Pourhouse!! After hearing COUNTLESS times how amazing it is from a certain obsessed friend of mine (hi!), I was glad to have finally experienced it for her graduation party. Being regulars, she and her girlfriend had an easy time reserving an entire section of the bar for our party of about 15 people. Even though we ended up being late (the graduation dragged on for FOUR hours), they didn't seem to mind and still kept it reserved!

They have an extensive selection of drinks and food to please the belly. I tried a new cider (new to me) which basically tasted like watered down apple juice. I think it was called Woodpecker Cider. BLAH. If you go here and like the likes of Magners and Bulmers (if you've been lucky enough to have had Bulmers) just avoid the cider all together. The food here was outstanding too! We ordered a couple rounds of nachos for the group. They came out heaped in cheese and chicken and deliciousness!! The guac and sour cream were on the side which is nice. I ordered the Smokehouse Burger which was so big I could barely finish it (topped with onion rings and served with mounds of fries). To top it off the waitress was really friendly and did an amazing job of handling such a large party!

Probably the best thing about the Pourhouse are the party options they offer! For something like $30-60 per person (depending on which package you choose, how many show up, etc) you can have UNLIMITED drinks, in some cases including top shelf liquor, for 3 hours. SOLD. They also have a birthday package where the b-day guy/gal drinks free ALL night and receives a complimentary bottle of champagne! I will MOST DEFINITELY be coming here for my birthday celebration! Note: Reservations ARE REQUIRED for any of the packages they offer!

They also have varying specials depending on the day of the week. I think Tuesdays are Rock Band/Wii Night (which sounds like a blast...drunken Wii!..uh oh...) and Thursday nights from 10pm-12am it's $5 bomb night! They have 5 or 6 different options. PRETTY AMAZING!

All in all fantastic hang out spot in Manhattan Valley. If I lived up there I would be there all the time.

Unlike my last review, this one will be a solid 4 stars. Why? Because they catered to my graduation party and I remember shenanigans akin to:

    - being carried around by my left arm and left leg WITHOUT spilling my drink (thanks to a long-time friend I've known for 10+ years)
    - a late night run to the deli for my favorite drunky munchy: a turkey sandwich
    - mounds of heaping nachos that were supposed to feed the 15+ people that showed up but that I secretly ninja-swiped with my drunken prowess
    - a drunken stumble home after many hours at the Pourhouse...yes, I live close enough to actually WALK home

Seriously though, you just gotta have the right kind of attitude when you come in here to enjoy it. Yes, it's a sports bar. If you prefer a lounge type setting, go to a LOUNGE. If you prefer a club where you can go STD-hunting...well, you know where to go. If you're looking for a laid-back atmosphere and a good time, come to the Pourhouse in Manhattan Valley.

What's not to like? It has an extensive beer list; great party deals for birthdays where you can have an open bar, of varying types of liquors and/or beers, for $30-$60 depending on what you want; fantastic nachos and other delicious bar food; and different types of accomodations depending on what you want. We reserved the back room via the manager who considers my girlfriend and I "regulars" (as much as we can be given our recent busy schedules of finishing a Master's and LSAT studying) for the party. There's a long bar if that's your thing. Plenty of tables and booths, and a lot of open space as well. And the best part is the Manhattan Valley prices. Best neighborhood change I've made.

    I approve.

As a loyal customer of the Lion's Head Tavern across the street, I've avoided checking out the Village Pourhouse until now.

But 109th Street and Amsterdam is probably big enough for two bars, so why not make room in my life for both.

Pourhouse is definitely more of a college bar than Lion's Head and it also seems more "corporate" - you almost half-expect the staff (which was very friendly) to be wearing flair with their Village Pourhouse tank tops.

But the beer selection is insane. Draught brews include Kona Fire Rock IPA (which I tried, very nice), Chimay Blanc (for $9!!??) and Sierra Nevada Anniversary Ale, while the list of bottles is also enticing - Carib, Delirium, Presidente, etc. Mmmmm, I want them all.

As for the food, I spied on some chicken wings when the dude sitting next to me ordered a plate - they looked tasty.  He was wearing a Rangers white Gretzky jersey - and sitting underneath framed Rangers blue Gretzky jersey.  Coincidence?

Speaking of the Rangers, the Pourhouse lost a point in my book for showing a Celtics playoff game on the big screen - while a critical Rangers playoff game was going on AT THE SAME TIME. WTF? This is not Boston.

But the Celtics lost - hehehe, in Boston, no less - and my day got a little brighter.  I only hoped that Gus, JJ and the boys across the street didn't see me sitting in here.

I'm still partial to LHT, but I may come back here to break things up - not to mention having a Chimay on tap.

Pro:  If you take a cab there, you can take in your receipt and use that as a starter on your tab.  Awesome, especially because my buddy's place was a walk away.

Big big con: The entire place stunk of Lysol or some other chemical cleaner last night.  It was so bad I couldn't drink any of the beer which was supposed to make our cab ride gratis.  After about a minute of trying to drink our beers, we just left.

    Sick nasty.

Unfortunately, drinks are a bit much for the area and what they offer.
