We always make it a point to eat here when we're in Corpus, and are never disappointed. Â We get whatever is the special that is mesquite grilled, and it's always fantastic. Â This time it was mahi mahi and it was delicious. Â We tried the vera cruz sauce, which was good, but unnecessary as the fish itself is great.
The staff is friendly and the drinks are reasonable at happy hour.
Walked in and the smell hit me like I was working a bait station on a crab boat. At least that was the comparison that came to mind as I was hit in the face by the rotten fish odor. Left to go to waterstreet oyster bar. Don't understand how sister restaurants can be so different in execution of essentially the same menu.
Review Source:Our mistake  - we had been to the Water Street location before and I made a res at this place, but its bright and kind of antiseptic, though the manager was very attentive when we had been seated for a few minutes without being addressed by any staff.  Food was fine, but the ambiance at the Oyster Bar is much better.  Go there for a better vibe.
Review Source:I'm generally not one to leave a bad review, but the food here is cause for an exception. Â The scallops were horrendous. Â They were pan fried in butter to the point of being tough as leather without benefit of any seasoning. Â The rice pilaf was on par with the scallops. Â The sauce on the stuffed chicken managed to hide most of its culinary sins. Â In short, the $80 we spent would have been put to better use by spending $40 of it on dinner at (insert chain of choice) and giving the rest to the waiter as a tip. Â I am at a loss for how a place this close to the water could serve seafood this bad.
Review Source:I'm not sure when it happened, but Water Street is back. Â Was not great for years, but the last couple times we've been, the food and service has been excellent. Â So glad to have a good seafood option back in downtown. Â Our faves are the shrimp picayune (like NOLA style barbecue shrimp), the embrochetes, and the shrimp enchiladas. Â You'll also be happy with any of the options off the blackboard. Â My only criticism is that we try to stick with local fish, and there's not always a local option. Â But all in all, we've been super happy every time we've left Water Street lately!
Review Source:When on Per Diem and traveling in Corpus, Water Street Seafood Co. definitely makes the list of places to go. Â When not on Per Diem and in Corpus, Water Street is still a great place to go. Â I ordered off of the black board and got the Parmesan crusted Black Drum over a bed of angel hair pasta. Â It was great. Â As many times as I've had fish this was a first for me. Â I've never had Black Drum, it didn't disappoint. Â It was a light and flaky fish that was cooked perfectly and had the just the right amount of crust to give it a crunch and impart flavor without overpowering the fish. Â The service was good and they did a fair job of keeping up with the large group we were in. Â It was a great experience and I will definitely be back.
Review Source:Great food, great service here! Our bartender, Will, was generous enough to give us great suggestions on fun places to go in Corpus, as my boyfriend and I are visitng.
We had a delicious mimosa and a refreshing beer at the bar when we stopped in. Would go back b/c the staff was friendly and the atmosphere was nice and hip, but not too trendy or overwhelming. Perfect!
3 of us ate for around 40 dollars each, including one appetizer and 3 HUGE desserts. Â Service was great (thanks, Raul!), and the menu is IDENTICAL to the Oyster Bar (the separate property adjacent), but the place was far less packed and we got much better service! Â We each got something different and shared some bites; everything was prepared very nicely, as ordered, and arrived timely. Â Great food, great service, timely and tasty!
Review Source:Surprised to see the low overall review here..this was the first place we ate upon our arrival to Corpus Christi and it was our favourite from the entire weekend!
Hubby had catch of the day grouper (pecan crusted), with fries and a salad.
I had pecan crusted tilapia, with veggies and a salad.
Both of the fish were delicious (I tried hubbys too), I'm normally about the batter fish comes in, but it was even delicious. Â I left most of it though cause it was so filling and I just wanted to enjoy the huge piece of fish. Â
Portions were great, the buttermilk walnut salad dressing was absolutely divine and I kept it after the server took my salad plate away so I could eat it with my entree. Â Their bread with garlic butter is also worth a mention too.
We also shared some of the smoked gouda mac and cheese, which really rocked my world!
Only criticism about the food was there there was a way too powerful dose of herbs and seasoning on my veggies, which made them difficult to enjoy.
Service was fantastic, quick, friendly and even after we'd paid our check, our server asked us if we wanted to-go refills, which in itself is rare.
We'd most definitely go back here next time we are in town!
Excellent brunch. Great quality, very nice selection. I wouldn't consider the service slow, not for the beach. The server having to bring you a clean plate, was a bit odd. However, if you know you'll need another one, ask before for it before you're done with your current plate. It worked well.
Review Source:Overall this place is average in food and service. For Corpus it is probably above average, but really felt like a chain restaurant  quality level. I would give it 2 1/2 stars if possible. Better than meh, but would not say a-ok.
We had drinks, appetizers, and a main course in addition to getting a meal to go. Service was prompt and accurate. No fuss with changes or substitutions. A bit overpriced for quality of food, but because it is downtown in a touristy location that is to be expected.
Friendly fast and accurate service. Â Peel n eat shrimp were good. Â Oysters on half shell were also good. Â Oysters Rockefeller were highlight. Â Homemade key lime pie was perfect finish. Â Loved the service, it took this up to four stars. Â Accommodating of our sons seve food allergy was a bonus.
Review Source:We love Water Street so much that we booked them to cater our wedding in May. Â We had a wonderful experience with them and could not be happier with the quality of the food and service we received at the wedding and at every visit we make to the restaurant. Â Furthermore, when our post-wedding brunch venue (Bombay Lounge and Grill) cancelled on us without notification, we quickly changed our location to Water Street and were, once again, satisfied! Â Fantastic experience all around!
Review Source:Decent apps and drink specials for happy hour, but overall barely an acceptable/average experience.
There are limited seafood options in the area, which is surprising, making this a somewhat acceptable alternative.
If you are in the area, give it a try, but definitely not a destination place.
Just had lunch here today and I don't get all the negativity about this place. Â The food was EXCELLENT! I had the "Texas Two Step" which is a pecan-crusted tilapia and shrimp, with sweet potato fries and a tossed salad with walnut dressing. My friend had the fried shrimp plate.
Now, mind you, this is supposed to be LUNCH and what came out looked like it could feed a FAMILY for dinner! Â The crust on the tilapia was super crispy and DELICIOUS. Â The fish was moist and flaky. Â The four shrimp that came with it were huge and also VERY good. Â Seasoned sweet potato fries were crispy and not greasy. But, I think what I liked even more was the tartar sauce. Â They make their own there and it's got a little "kick" to it. Â VERY good with fish or shrimp.
My friend really liked her fried shrimp. Â There were 6 shrimp that came on her plate.
The service and the atmosphere are top-notch. Â You're right in the heart of downtown Corpus Christi. Â Plenty of shops around after you're done. Â Again, I don't understand the negative posts because I'd come back here (and WILL) in a second!
Great job, folks!
PS: someone asked me, "Why only 4 stars then?" Â Well, I was disappointed that they don't have a lunch menu. Â Be prepared to pay full, dinner prices (along with those big portions).
This place came recommended by the hotel we stayed at. Â My review is three stars, because I cannot give it 2.5 stars. Â We ordered at the bar, which is full service. Â The bar tender was friendly, after a few moments of chatting. Â We ordered some beers, no problem. Â We ordered the coconut shrimpt and a bowl of caldo xochitl soup. Â The shrimp came out quickly, and was very tasty. Â The coconut was crispy, yet you could still taste the coconut and the texture was perfect. Â The soup, is another story. Â The first bowl, was not hot, it was not warm. Â I asked for a second bowl, same thing, barely luke warm. Â The manager apologized and offered another menu selection at no charge. Â I declined. Â
The bar is located just across from the kitchen, when the plates came out they would yell the wait persons name. Â This was a bit unnerving, while trying to relax. Â
They have a goldmine here, I hope they don't take advantage of the location for the business. Â This place has real potential.
I found out about this place from other Yelpers and the locals from the office (while out on business). Â
I went at the right time, not yet busy. Â The interior was typical of a large place thats wants to get people in and out- to me it was almost like upscale fast food. Since I was alone, I had my dinner at the bar. I was confused by who was waiting on me. It was so disorganized. Â The waitress sold me on the trout because she said the mushroom sauce was good. Â Well, it arrived without sauce. Â It was mediocre, at best. Â I ordered the wedge salad and that was a bigger disappointment. Â When I order a wedge, I expect tomatoes, bacon, blue cheese and a white french dressing. Their wedge only had dressing and it was like 1000 Island. It was generic to say the least!
I will not return to this restaurant.
I considered 1 star for this, but it was better than that. Â I had crab cakes that were mushy in the middle and didn't taste real fresh. Â The french fries were just OK, and the slaw was bad.
My girlfriend had decent fried shrimp. Â The others at the table had a pasta in alfredo sauch which they really liked.
The dining room was only about 2/3 full, yet we had to wait 30 minutes for a table for four. Â When we were seated, our table had been wiped down, but not set. Â There were 3 extra chairs around the table from the last diners. Â This was good news though, because 3 of the chairs had food and liquid on them. Â I had to move out of the way of a dripping AC unit, which also dripped into my beer.
Fortunately, the wait staff was very accomodating. Â Our waiter was obviously having a rough night, but worked hard to take care of us. Â
Overall, I was expecting much more and will not go back.
The food here is a-ok. I would give it three stars if not for the following experience.
Unfortunately, we came on prom night. The place was packed and we had three hungry, tired, grumpy kids. We got apps at the bar. Fried oysters were good, calamari ok. Beer was cold.
After a long, long time, we were seated. Food took a while, service was spotty, and my wife got a plate full of raw scallops. She did not order scallop sashimi. It was way past bedtime for the young-uns, so we asked if they could just nuke them. The waiter came back and reported that the cook said they were raw and he would re-do them. That was fine, but we had to go. So we said we would just get them to go.
One might think that they would be comped. Not a chance. On top of that, we were charged a mandatory tip for 5. I just hate that. I understand doing that to a group of five drunk college kids that might not tip otherwise, but to a party of two adults and their three kids! Please. I think the mandated tip was 17%. Sorry waiter, you missed out on my usual 20% and up.
I doubt that I will be back. Even though the wedge salad with blue cheese was very good.
We made reservations for Easter brunch here at 11am. We walked in and were immediately seated by the friendly host. Our waitress soon followed with a great attitude and huge smile, thanking us for being there. If she was pissed about working on Easter Sunday, she sure kept on a great poker face. She was pleasant and knowledgeable.
We ordered some bloody Marys, which were alright. They had a little spice and were garnished with very cold, crisp celery, a delicious olive, and one peel-and-eat shrimp that was very tasty.
Our salads and entrees were excellent. The wedge salad with the walnut dressing is to-die-for! So cold, crisp and flavorful! The hot bread with garlic butter was so chewy and fresh.
Our entrees came out. I had the seafood sampler, and let me say that I am a huge seafood snob. This was the real deal. Everything was fried to perfection and very, very fresh and delicious! My oysters were juicy and plump. The shrimp were clean and flavorful. The tilapia was crisp and flakey and tasted incredible. The sweet potato fries were also cooked to perfection. The slaw was good. My uncle liked his shrimp enchiladas, and my dad got what appeared to be a tilapia benedict, which he loved. My aunt got this penne with all sorts of seafood and sausage, and she said she always gets this here and loves it.
We will definitely consider making this an Easter tradition. We love Water Street Seafood Co!
This place s great. Atmosphere is fun and casual but the food is strong, I had the Mahi Mahi for dinner and came back the next day and got the sushi for lunch. Considering I was only in Corpus for two days and one night, going back to the same restaurant twice makes a statement.
The guys I was with had the shrimp and kept commenting on how fresh it was - something I found odd as they both had it fried, but I pass it along anyway.
The one downside to this place s that the service is kinda slow - even at lunch. Also, while not far to criticize, it is somewhat of a bummer that they do not have any views of the ocean.
I go to CC for work 3-4 times a year and I have no doubt I will be back here next time I'm in town.
I've eaten here twice while in CC for work. Once at the sushi bar and once in the back half of the Water Street complex.
Sushi first- way over priced. And this is from a guy from S. California who is accustomed to high prices. As an example, me and a friend ended up spending $110 on sushi. I had a nigiri sampler tray and a roll. He had a couple of rolls. While presentation was excellent, quality was on par with any other DECENT sushi place.
Second experience - I had the Burger. It comes standard with cheese and bacon. Yummy. Good size burger, decent price ($8 I think) and fries on the side. The complimentary baked bread and garlic butter are awesome.
The overall experience is a very nice, higher style establishment. But feel free to wear shorts and flip flops too.
Worst experience ever! Â Wife and I came here after church, hoping for a good meal. Â Boy were we disappointed. Â It's interesting they call themselves a seafood restaurant even though they mostly only serve items like fried shrimp. Â Service was horrible. Â We had to wait 10 minutes after being seated to be even greeted by a server even though only one other table around us was being used. Â Our server didn't bring soy sauce or chopsticks with our sushi and when asked to do so, forgot again! Â Wife wasn't happy that her drink was never refilled until we mentioned something. Â The sushi was not fresh and I've had MUCH better in other places in Corpus Christi. Â The average price of a roll was $15 which is way overpriced for the quality. Â I'd recommend going to Midori's on Staples St. for more affordable and better quality sushi. Â
All in all, we'll never be going back there again. Â What a disappointment!
I think this place is one of your best bets for seafood in corpus christi. Â Their jambalaya was even featured on the food network!
no oysters though. i am guessing due to the oil hah..
I am not an expert on gumbo but i thought their seafood gumbo was okay. I also enjoyed the crab stuffed mushrooms with a few of their different fishes for entrees.
The fish they served was fresh and not overcooked. I also had some of their sashimi which i found to be more than acceptable. Â A great find in a sea of flavorless restaurants.
I've been here a few times when I visited Corpus. I've only gotten sushi and the Caldo Xochitl. The soup is amazing, I could eat that every day. The sushi I had was good, I had a variety of rolls, mostly tuna and salmon. Oh, they have a sushi happy hour on some days, not sure what ones, where it's 50% off.
Each time I've been there I was seated promptly and had good service throughout the meal.
It's definitely not the one star "methinks not!" After all, it's not awful. Â But I think saying "I've experienced better" and giving it two stars kind of undersells the mediocrity of the place. Â Because, while I couldn't point to one specific thing that really made it bad, I realized pretty early that I couldn't imagine anything that could bring me back to the place. Â Unless maybe I lived right down the road. Â Which I'm not even sure is possible, as this is in the heart of what passes for downtown Corpus Christi. Â That is to say that it's on the bay near the one skyscraper in an area that seems like you might not want to leave your vehicle too late at night--though they do offer valet.
The establishment is pretty large, and it's right next to other places sharing the Water Street name--the Oyster Bar and the Sushi joint. Â And perhaps those are better, because I could see it being alright for drinks and pounding down raw shellfish. Â It's the cooked food that left something to be desired.
For starters, the boiled shrimp were ridiculously priced at $6.99 for a quarter pound--which is about 6 or 7. Â
As for the entrees and other appetizers...they just weren't that appetizing. Â Nothing was horrible, but after sampling several dishes with my group, there wasn't a single thing that I felt I couldn't replicate pretty easily at home and without much effort or cost. Â Now, I know you are thinking "But, Dennis--everyone knows you're world class in the kitchen," so let me rephrase by saying that I think just about ANYONE could replicate these dishes at home.
The atmosphere was equally generic--pretty much like any casual dining place. Â The service wasn't unfriendly, but it didn't leave much of a positive impression, either. Â And perhaps all of this would be alright if it were especially cheap, but it was not. Â The prices were on the high side, as previously illustrated with the shrimp. Â
Basically, this place screams out Tourist Trap. Â It's made to catch the crowd of people in town just looking for seafood in the city. Â Probably business travelers and happy hour folks, since it's downtown.
Folks, do not eat here. Â Instead, eat at the Water Street Oyster Co, which is the SAME food only different building (it's located in the front, on the street) ...
My husband and I ventured here last Saturday night, around 10:00. Â We had just been on a private sailboat and decided we were hungry - we were told this place was open to midnight ... so we didn't feel "bad" about showing up "late".
It was our first wedding anniversary and we were looking for some good drinks and oysters. Â We walked in, were NOT greeted ... the hostesses were too busy yapping to each other. Â When they finally noticed us, still no greet. Â Just a "follow me" and a look of disgust for being there. Â Once we were seated, we waited a good 15 minutes ... no server. Â Oh there were plenty walking by, talking and cleaning up the section next to us.
Finally, we just got up and left .... went to the WSOyster Bar, where we got EXCELLENT service and even better food.
EFF you, WS Seafood Co.
Prior to visiting Corpus Christi, I googled Corpus Christi restaurants to find the most decent ones while disregarding the prices [Most reviews include "food's good but kind of expensive."]. Â This was one of the places that seemed promising!! The menu I saw online seemed reasonable and affordable. Â
We ordered:
1. Shrimp and Oysters [fried] $12
2. Seafood Sampler [fried] $16
I don't know where to begin....
When both entrees were brought to us, and all we thought was, 'that's it?' ... Â We both compared the portion size to a "Long John Silver's" order - seriously! The only difference between the sample and the 'shrimp and oysters' platter was the small catfish and two small shrimp coiled in bacon [embrochette]. Â The quality of the food was not even good ... we doused all our seafood in the tartar sauce to rid it of the old, nasty, mushy, fish taste. Â We love seafood and know when its gone bad!!! Â The food definitely did not meet our expectations!! Â
Our waitress suckedddddd. She gave us our drinks and then our food, but afterwards, she failed to check if we were even alright. Â During our meals, we are usually not picky about whether they come by our table. Â But, after we finished eating, we were so pissed that we just wanted to go. Â I guess our aggravation was apparent because one of the busboys heard us asking 'where is our effing waiter' and said that he'd go get her. Â
Definitely not recommended.
