This is a simple neighborhood bar. The back patio is nice in the summer. The beer is cheap. There are cheap food specials too, but from my experiences the food is really hit or miss. Lots of TVs for sports watching. The service is usually friendly, but I think they might have a bit of turnover, so I have been there on an off day too. I have gone a bunch since the place first opened since I live nearby.
Go for the cheap beer and sports!
"Yeah, there's this bar I go to that's West of Western..." Â At that point, people tend to look at me with a "Hell no!" on their face. Â I've lived in Humboldt Park for several years and if I wanted a decent bar to go to, I had to go to Ukrainian Village or East of Western. Â Ukie Village isn't bad, but it's not my neighborhood. Â When I first noticed this place open, it seemed like it would be just another seedy Humboldt Park bar. Â Finally, I went in and found out...it's not seedy?!?! Technically, it's a restaurant with a bar. Â
Here are some of the details:
Environment:
* It's clean and open. Â
* Great patio that also serves as a great place for private parties. Â It's comfortable.
* I dig the fireplace and lounge chairs in the front. Â
* The crowd is blended and never had a problem with anyone. Â Most of the people that go here are regulars or live in the area. Â
* Bad behaviors are not tolerated by the staff, which is nice and keeps the place comfortable. Â Again, it's not just a bar. Â Yes, you can bring kids in. Â However, I don't recommend it later in the night.
* Like sports? There are enough TVs to catch a game at just about any time.
The Food:
* Daily specials and full menu. Â Remember, it's not just a bar. Â You could go each day and have something new if you wanted. Â
* Sunday has become my Wings and Beer night at West on North. Â Half off wings Sun/Mon.
* The ribs are pretty good. Â I'm from KY and know good barbeque when I taste it. Â It's close, but much better than what I've had from other so called BBQ shops. Â
* They do have several options for salads. Â I've had the Caesar Salad a few times and it's good. I'm trying to eat more greens and veggies. Â You will find these options on the menu. Â
The Staff:
* I've only met a few, but they have a great staff. Â I've met Joe, the owner, a few times and he comes out to mingle with everyone. Â His goal: make sure you are having a good time and enjoying the food. Â John, Scott and Arwa are awesome. Â If you ever go in and you hear someone yelling how bad the service is and how slow the server is, that's probably me. Â However, slow and terrible service is far from the truth. Â Arwa is actually quite prompt and keeps up with the banter as I'm told I'm the worst customer ever. Â I probably am!
I'm glad to see West on North in my neighborhood and have always enjoyed going there. Â Good food, great staff, great location. Â What else could you ask for?
Been here a few times for drinks and dinner. Haven't been outside on the patio, but the inside is very clean and comfy. I appreciate a bar that doesn't feel the need to blast music when people are there just to enjoy some food and brews with their companions. Good selection of bar food - nothing that will blow you away, but solid quality and cheap - and lots of beers to choose from - good selection and prices.
The service has always been pretty good and the owner(s) seems like a good neighbor that cares. He comp'ed us our first round one time because the table we sat at had a couple of spent glasses still there and have seen them host some events for people in the community.
Absolutely perfect neighbourhood bar. Great food specials. Cheap drinks and wonderful beer selection. They have all the football games on Sunday. Bartenders are friendly and they remember you and what you drink. Love the decor.
I had several of their specials. Burger is absolutely amazing, I think it's $3.50 on Wed (huge, with fries). Pizza, $4 on Tue, is way too big for one and it has wonderful think crust. I recommend spinach/goat cheese. Quesadillas are also delicious. Can't go wrong with anything you order.
And yes, they have an amazing outdoor patio in the back.
The only weird thing - who designed the ladies restrooms?
West on North is the perfect neighborhood bar. The staff has a noticeable, and sincere interest in getting to know their customers. It's a great place to watch a game, without the over the top, seizure-inducing, Wrigleyville-style sports bar style. Joe (who runs the joint) was super generous in helping out our neighborhood softball team this summer, as were all the bartenders and wait staff. The fried pickles are money, but I think the steak salad is their best bang for buck dish.
Review Source:I was thrilled to find a decent bar, with good food, west of Western. Â This place has a good vibe and a nice outdoor patio that you wouldn't know existed if you just walked by. Â Food is good and surprisingly cheap for the city! Â Brunch, lunch, dinner....all good. Â The staff makes you feel comfortable, and despite the fact that some people get scared of going "west of Western", I always feel safe here. Â It's on busy North Ave., directly next to a bus stop, and surrounded by other businesses and residences. Â Also, I've never seen it crowded. Â Good if you want a table, but also makes me nervous because customers = a lasting business. Â I hope this place sticks around!
Review Source:I love this place. Â Every time I go there the staff is great and so is the food. Â I can't get enough of the fried pickles! Â Food portions are large for the price and the patio is great. Â I have attended 2 parties at West on North for neighborhood organizations and the owners contribuited ALL of the food and drink free of charge for several hours and had a kiddie craft table. Â
I think this is a great addition to the up and coming neighborhood and since the owners live close by it is also a great representation of the families that live near by.
Hey now, holy cow! Â I wouldnt call it a pub but bar is fine. Â Excellent outdoor area and EXCEPTIONALLY clean. Â They have 3 different ciders and some damn decent beer specials. Â My friend and I split the skirt steak w roasted veggies, hummus and cheese balls. Â The cheese balls are dynamite as well was the rest of the food. Â For a small off the charts type of place I was surprised to see that all of the food was made/prepared in house, ie no frozen bar grub. Â The food was fresh and clean and Scott was damn cool as the server. Â A friend of mine also went there the prior week and bragged about the ribs and pizza. Â Best of all on top of quality the prices were VERY reasonable, almost insane!
Review Source:This is a really nice pub in the Milwaukee/Damen/North vein, only it is just west of Western on North Avenue working to serve as a pioneer anchor for the yuppies flooding into East Humboldt Park today the way Cleo's pioneered UK Village at Chicago and Damen 10-15 years ago when that neighborhood was on the rise.
Inside, the design is fresh with a touch of hip style and, well, yuppie with a touch of class. Â The barmaiden, bar manager are welcoming, young, good looking and friendly, smart girls with good casual fashion sense and a good working knowledge of both the bar and kitchen menus. Â The beer selection is good and so are the prices and specials. Â You can get beer battered cod fish and chips done right in pub style for $4.50.
The jukebox is a great online jukebox, so you can find everything from all the classics you have loved since you were a child to the really obscure stuff you may want for that special, better than average pub moment. Â I found some French ye-ye girl stuff on that jukebox I have never found on any other jukebox online or otherwise. Â I live for finding incredible music nobody has ever heard before that grabs you and sets the perfect tone, and look for that stuff on every jukebox in every pub I visit.
The patio is very, very nice.
When I walk past this place on my way home from work, the smokers out front are almost always the good looking, friendly people in the neighborhood I like to make new friends. Â The neighborhood is right off the four corners dividing Bucktown/Wicker Park/East Humboldt/Logan Square, so the neighborhood mix is rich in cosmo culture. Â Last time I stepped into the place, around midnight, the clientele inside was made up of a tall, young Puertan Rican gentleman, a trust fund baby, a good looking, well dressed in the casual mode black couple, tall man, short woman, who had just finished their gigs at a comedy club nearby, a detective who had just finished his shift cracking capers, and another good looking young neighborhood guy I saw walking the cute Asian barmaiden home after we all closed the bar together. Â Out back on the patio, this was a Wednesday night mind you, 3 small parties of neighborhood friends/family were yucking it up and having a good time.
I like this place. Â North Ave west of Western needs a place like this if we are going to turn this street around the way Division St. has developed recently.
What a clean looking bar...
I walked in 2/8 about 9:30 and this place is a small bar but cute and sparkly clean....
the floors were gleaming....me and Jenise R. Â said it a few times on how nice and clean this place was.....
We opted for the $3.50 burger special and Daisy cutters on draft...
the burgers are HUGE as well as the fries....LARGE PORTIONS very tasty.....my only gripe is I forgot to order my burger well done....
The bartender server was a doll....so pretty super nice!
there's a lot of tvs and juke box!
Welcome to the neighborhood!
Been here almost a half dozen times now since they're on my walk home from work. Â Overall, I like it. Â Here's the breakdown.
Food: Food ranges from average to slightly above. Â It's nothing I spend nights dreaming about, but it's better than your standard bar fare, especially the desserts. Â Those, in particular, have been exceptional, considering it's a bar. Â Surprising. Â
Price: Price point is great for the food, average for the drinks.
Atmosphere: I would like the atmosphere here a lot more if it weren't for all the screens. Â I'm always confused when places go to great lengths to do interior decorating and then cover it up with a half dozen huge screens. Â And it's always the game. Â I'm not a sports fan so this is a turn off for me, but, again, finding a bar in Chicago that isn't covered in sports screens is nearly impossible. Â Side note: if you ARE looking for a place to watch the game, they've got you covered.
Staff: A half dozen visits and only seen the same person more than once. Â Seems to be rotating staff. Â None have been particularly bad. Â None have been particularly friendly. Â They're serviceable. Â I find a bunch of the comments about the staff being negative a bit hard to understand when down the street you can pay 50% more to be snarled at by a hipster waiter at Handlebar and everyone seems to love that place. Â Weird standards...
And for all these reviews talking about there being kids. Â Yep. Â If you're in there before 10 or 11 you'll likely see kids. Â I've brought mine. Â I frequently see families in there. Â I don't see this as a negative. Â I like that they're family friendly. Â They don't babysit, and sometimes you'll see kids running around, but that's to be expected. Â They're kids in a bar. Â If you were a kid you'd probably run around too. Â It's fun. Â I don't see how people can give a bad review of a place because of something other customers are doing.
I have came here several times hoping it will get better but it does not. Service is horrible despite only being 3 or 4 ppl there and the food is subpar. I just don't understand why the service is so slow. They don't offer cocktail specials or have a house cocktail drink. Besides the decor being nice, everything else just don't add up. As for the owner having owned a previous location I would think the experience will be better. Maybe they need a menu and drink over haul what they have just is not setting them apart from any other place..
Review Source:"Underwhelming" is right. We came for dinner and beer. The Guinness was extremely watered down and overpriced, the food took forever to arrive despite there being maybe three other people in the place, the chicken in my salad-from-a-bag was cold, and our server seemed disinterested and slightly bitchy. On the plus side, the wooden nautical decor was neat. Won't be going back.
Review Source:Solid place. This area is bleak, and there are not many options. I can recommend this place with confidence.
We rolled in, hungry. First up, POUTINE! This Canadian decadent delicacy is worth the trip in itself. The perfect complement to a couple of cocktails. Salty shoestring fries drenched with moist gravy and cheese. Mmmmmmm . . . moist cheese.Really tasty, we couldn't jam them down quickly enough. Salty!
Our waitress was adorable, friendly and attentive. Really made the visit fun.
I had the Fish n' Chips. I guess it was a subliminal Milwaukee thing that I felt like eating fish on a Friday, though I'm not (and have never been) Catholic. Hmmm. Anyway, they were PIPING HOT when I got them, buttery, flaky and absolutely delicious once I started devouring them. Drenched in Malt Vinegar, natch. 3 filets, which was a perfect size entree, and left me - not stuffed, but wanting more.
Hm, I say "drenched" a lot. Moist is good.
My compatriots in crime had the BLT&A (no surprise!) which was pronounced "great!", and another fish n' chips which was also enjoyed.
The place is spotless, the bathrooms clean, the bartender friendly, cute and nice.
Great service, great music, awesome steak sandwich. Thursday are the best. The bartender is awesome, they have an awesome selection for karaoke, and the malort is only $2. I recently met the owner (also owns Marbles bar - great tacos), he built the place for a local bar/restaurant he could bring his family to. Super friendly guy. Â
Also, their Jukebox doubles as a photobooth machine.
OK so this place is in my hood ....1st big mistake was walking in 2nd was staying after they told me after 10 o clock its 21 up (its only 8 30) .3rd was tipping the waitress...never felt like i shouldnt be somewhere till here me and my date who didnt want drinks had to go thru 2 people to get the ok to sit in eat  even thou the night before a family with 2 infants where there after 10 p.m..GET UR SHIT TOGETHER. MORE FOOD OPTIONS NEED N HOW ABOUT SOME POP OR GLACE OF WATER MENU
Review Source:Underwhelmed.
That's probably the best way to describe how I felt about West on North. I met my sister there for a drink and the bartender was disinterested and surly (and it's not cause she was busy- there were maybe 3 other people there).
I wanted to like it. I wanted to like it a lot because it's super close to my place, but there are other better options. C'est la vie.
This restaurant, based on my 4 experiences there, is just awful. Â The mac n cheese dinner plate was enough food to feed an infant, and it came with fairly disgusting mixed greens. Â Why mixed greens with mac n cheese? The mac n cheese itself was very poor compared to Small Bar, or something of that ilk. Â The burger I had there was very mediocre. Â The decor inside this place is like a dive bar trying to be classier than what it is. Â The staff seems obnoxious. Â It's only 1 block from my house so I really wish this restaurant wasnt so awful!
Review Source:Awesome spot !!!!
Never eaten inside but had the opportunity to eat on the back patio twice while it was still warm in October.
Their wings are delicious especially the asian wings...bbq & buffalo are good as well.
I tried their blue cheeseburger and it was awesome as well!!!
Def a good spot to hit up if you want some good wings, burgers or a good drink.
By the way, they have lots of bacon filled dishes on the menu
I walked in here with my awesomely tanned brown brotha Lui aka sir blunt alot aka focos aka ma dawg. Anyway............... WOW we were shocked a nice place like this opened up in the old neighborhood. $2.00 can specials everyday!
$5.99 1/2 slab rib specials with fries!.......reminds you of Cleos doesnt it!! Tell ya laterz!
Anyway....... lots of specials! nice place, friendly staff!
hit this!!!!!!!
OHHHH theres also a patio in the back!!!!
Vegan friendly 5.00 Â 1/4 lb veggie burgers with fries! Handle bar can suck it!!!
SHake and bake seal of approval!
Hipster infestation level:9 BUUTTAAAAA its all good .25 cent wings makes me feel real good! Â
shhhhhhhhhhhhh its my secret place
I'll say the same thing as everyone else: Finally! A place by my house! Yay!
They're literally less than a block from my apartment, which, combined with the liquor store re-opening (finally), makes this neighborhood complete.
However, I only noticed they had opened because I saw someone smoking out front one night. It's got a very dark interior and there wasn't any pre-launch fanfare.
I've eaten here twice so far, once for a quick dinner and once for brunch.
For dinner I had the grilled goat & swiss (pretty good, though I forgot I don't like swiss cheese), cream cheese bacon balls (Delicious, just like crab rangoon, only without the seafood), and a vodka lemonade. Only thing missing was the presentation on the cheese balls - five cheese balls in a too large basket with some containers of sauce looked kinda pitiful. My boyfriend had the traveler burger and seemed quite pleased with it.
Brunch was at 11am on a very rainy Saturday morning and we weren't sure if they'd be open yet, but thank god, they were. They didn't even give us dirty looks for getting rainwater all over the floor. The french toast was some of the best I've had from a restaurant, not all rubbery and chewy, though my boyfriend was a little disappointed that the eggs benedict were on texas toast instead of english muffins. Sausages were nice and plump and service was good.
Prices can't be beat, but they need more lighting - I can never tell walking by if they are open or not.
First off, I am really happy that there is a place that I can walk to on North Ave! Â For drinks, there is nothing the complain about here. Â Drinks are cheapish and plentiful.
As far as food goes, it needs some work. Â Ive had the chicken wings, which I think were from cornish game hens they were so small. Â Sauces on them were good though! Â Fried pickles were a total failure, which the waitress knew about, so she was not surprised when we sent them back. Â BTW, this review is a few weeks late, so maybe they have reworked the recipe? Â Flatbreads are ok. Â The club sandwich is good! Â Turkey tasted really nice and like it was roasted in house. Â
From reading other reviews and talkin other peeps, it seems like there are other issues with the food. Â So, maybe they are working on that front. Â
Ill keep going though, since it is just so close and is a good place to get my drink on :)
This place is a great, much needed addition to the neighborhood. That earns at least one star in my book since there are no other decent options in the immediate vicinity.
West on North is a perfect neighborhood bar/restaraunt. I live a block away and probably eat or hang out here at least once a week. They have a nice back patio that at night has very chill lighting. It's a great place to relax or even get a group together to party although it has never been too crazy when I was there. The inside is also cool with ample seating and a good number of TVs for watching games. I believe they also have an outside TV on the patio.
They have good food at very reasonable prices as well as a small but decent beer list that includes Daisy Cutter. One of my favorite things on the menu is the 1/4 pound burger. Actually now one of my favorites in the city. It's not your standard super-thick, steak on a bun, Chicago burger. It's a thinner, juicy patty with good seasoning and you can pick from a long list of toppings. It also comes with delicious curly fries. All for $5. Actually most things on the menu cost around $5 which is quite the bargain.
To name a few:
Chef's grilled cheese - swiss, goat cheese, caramelized onions and bacon on Texas toast: Delicious, great twist on the classic grilled cheese sammy.
Quinoa veggie burger - I haven't tried this but my buddy who is a vegetarian always gets it and raves that it's one of his favorite burgers.
Fried pickle - These are really good, the batter is not very thick and they aren't extremely greasy like others that I've had.
Cream Cheese Balls: Think crab rangoon with bacon instead of crab. These are pretty tasty but the amount of cheese in each ball can get to be a little much. Definitely worth trying though.
Wings - They are decent, standard wings. The blue cheese sauce is really good.
They also have a good number of salad options that all sound good. My wife has tried a couple and seems to really like them.
Their bartender also makes some pretty original and tasty drinks though I can't recall what they were called or what was in them. Mission accomplished?
All in all it's a great bar where you can get good food and booze at a very reasonable price. It has everything you could really want from a neighborhood spot. Hopefully West on North is the beginning of many other places popping up in this area.
I am pleased as punch that this place has opened up! Â It's walking distance from my house which totally fantastic! Â We got a recommendation to try the place from someone in a neighboring business. Â He raved about the place which has to be in part because of the lack of places that aren't hole-in-the-wall, counter-service places. Â I had only half noticed the place on the street... to be honest, because of its sign and heavily tinted windows I assumed the place was some craptastic bar that I didn't need to be putting a toe into. Â I'm so happy for the recommendation because we love the place! Â The service is great! Â Super friendly and attentive. Â The flatbreads are soooo good! Â We've been for dinner and brunch and we really enjoyed both. Â This place is also super affordable! Â I suspect we'll spend many fall Sundays watching the Bears here!
Review Source:How does one f*&% up mac and cheese? Â Ask these guys. Â
If this place had reasonable food and was a relatively ok place to hang out they could get a lot of business from me: it's stumbling distance from home. Â But no.
The food was HORRIBLE and the decorations are the worst. Â The "directional" theme didn't work guys, sorry, probably cost a lot to have those compasses made into the bar. Â
I will give this place one more try but if they can't get it together in the kitchen I won't be returning again ever.
My homegirl works here.
Food: Cream cheese balls and bacon sticks. Good drunk food. Gained 8 lbs.
The salad I got was called the West on North, and BOY HOWDY. It sure was. Wait, what? Chicken, goat cheese, salad greens, walnuts and a nice red wine vinigrette. Cops in uniform get 50% off.
Ample space in the back patio. Cricket checkin ID's at the door. Modern ass Star Trek jukebox. My home girl who tends bar hooked it up with a nice shot I had never had before. A root beer float shot! Baileys, Jager and High Life. Drop in the Jager shot 2 the Hi life, pour the baileys on top and away you go, slam that shit cuz it is redonk.
I checked out West on North right after work one day, so it was pretty empty. My friend and I had the patio all to ourselves for most of our dinner. Let me just say that I am SO excited to have a decent patio bar near my home!
The most crucial piece of information you should have about WoN is that they serve FRIED PICKLES. I love me some fried pickles, and this one did not disappoint. Beware: the pickle is HUGE so share with your friends.
It's obviously not hard to get a really delicious burger in Chicago, so I'm pleased when a chef does something different. The burgers here are your old school, savory, crispy-edged griddle burgers. You can order a burger and choose your toppings - and it's not super expensive. I had cheddar cheese, BBQ sauce and fried onions. The BBQ sauce was stellar - a little sweet with a little kick. Mm!
Vodka lemonades are made with pink lemonade. This is not the place for a fancy cocktail.
In summary, if you are looking for a comfortable place to kick it, have a burger and throw back a couple drinks, this place is for you.
I'm all for having a new spot west of western, and I'm sure I'll be back a lot to have some beer on the patio, but I can't fathom ever being hungry enough to eat anything here again.
We came to the soft opening, so experienced a long wait (however, when people next to us come in, eat and pay the check before our food arrives, I don't really think this a system hammering itself out, but I digress). Â We got fried pickeles, mac and cheese and the goat cheese flatbread.
Flatbread was ok. Â I could have made this at home, though at home I probably would have thrown away greens that were wilted and sketchy around the edges. Â The tempura came off the pickles before we even bit into them, and the mac and cheese was the worst I've ever had. Â And that includes years of eating grocery store boxed mac and cheese made only with water. Â Was this government cheese?
I'm sort of offended by this place. Â I get it, people who live west of western are desperate to have some places to go near their house (me included), but it almost seems like this place actually though "eh, these people will go anywhere, let's just give them mediocre crap".
I hope they do well as I don't wish small business owners anything but the best, but I'll only be contributing when buying a drink that came in a pre-packaged container.
A good friend lives just a few doors down from this place and she was pretty darned happy when it opened. Now, to be fair, there are real dive bars on this street, but as a faint of heart hipster chick, she was not really looking to hang out with real Bukowski types, so I joined her for a beer when this place opened.
The interior has a compass theme which is sort of fun. The bar has compasses embedded right in the bar. They don't work, but some of the little ones on the outside of the bar do. Yep, I asked for a magnet to test them out. They have a nice new and large rear patio which was where we spent half our time (it closes at 11 pm). So, while Bukowski took the night off or was probably at one of the dive bars nearby on North, the place was exactly what my friend was looking for, and since I live pretty close, I was happy to see this place open because this stretch of North Ave needed something.
The bartender was a funny and very friendly woman and she gave us some free beer cozies. Hey, I needed some of these. The beer cans were $2 for PBR, and other cheap favorites, and they had a good selection of premium beers on tap. They did not have the beer and shot for $5 special so common, but you can get a beer and a shot for $6 so it's not bad at all if that is your go-to drinking plan.
We did not eat, but looked over the menu and watched several people get their food. The kitchen is open late (not sure if it is open till midnight or only 11). Note: I was told by a friendly Yelper with no reviews that it is open til 1 am. If you have questions about the hours call ahead. They had burgers, and some crazy fries with tons of awesome stuff piled on there, as well as daily specials (Tuesday is half-off burger night). The base prices were cheap, and pretty reasonable compared to other places. They also have a brunch menu which seemed very reasonable.
We did not see any babies going wild with mom or dad but there was a family enjoying a late meal on the patio with some kids when we got there and they were just being a typical family, and our service was good all night. Welcome to Humboldt Park West on North! I will check out one of the meal specials and update on the food!
These owners totally know something about a location just before its time, so we were very excited this place opened- it is very similar to their other  bar Marble, w/ a different flair and same awesome back patio. The food menu is a bit more sophisticated and it is awwwwwwesome they have brunch! They could use more of the beer options like they have at Marble and daily specials would be great too but I am sure they know, they did JUST open after all... so its a little early to totally judge anything about this place in my humble opinion.
For food we got the cheese balls which were very delicious- think crab rangoon but w/ bacon, very tasty but if you are counting calories, probably wouldn't order. The "east meets west" flatbread was pretty good, the flatbread isn't soft but more on the crispy side and has an excellent flavor. For entree we split  "the traveler" burger- which was stuffed w/ bacon, blue cheese and had caramelized onions on top- it was very tasty and full of delicious flavors.
Since I also attempt to be a vegetarian, I am super excited to see they have a homemade veggie burger made w/ quinoa which sounds phenomenal. So glad there is a new place in neighborhood to go,
we will definitely be back!
Thank goodness something is finally "west on north". Â Yes, there is stuff, but not a lot of stuff. Â At all. Â The food was really good, as were the vodka lemonades. Â It's a pretty big space, nice bar, and a great outdoor patio (literally just like the owner's former establishment Cleo's).
We split a fried pickle (ok, you know its freaking good, not good for you but....) and I had a burger that was delicious. Â A little too greasy for me, but still crazy good. Â And I loved the fries, too!
I will definitely will be back.
I am so excited to support the success of this place. This is a stretch of North Ave that needs some TLC not another auto parts store. Â I REALLY wanted this place to be good - not even great, just good.
I will give it another chance and maybe two. The issues I had were similar to those mentioned in other reviews. Inconsistent service, great at the start, non existent in the middle.
The real down side for me was the number of toddlers in the place. I like that in Chicago you can have your kids in bars with you. These kids were over the top. Could be that there were so darn many of them. There were no less than 8 children at any time. One was quite a screamer. This is the kind of place where you could teach your child how to behave in a restaurant. No screaming at the top of your voice - both pitch and volume. No running around or engaging other patrons by popping up over the back of the next unoccupied booth. What was really surprising is that some of the children belong to and were there with the owner.
We tried several appetizers. Had to have the bacon wrapped pretzels: great idea, needs work on the execution. Fried Pickles, now, I have had these done well and this was a big miss. The tempura was crisp and golden but is was not on the pickles. The cook came out to say hello, I suggested he try dredging with flour to get batter to stick. I hope he gives that a go. We also had the cheeseburger soup... another interesting idea, needs some fine tuning.
My friend had a flat bread with goat cheese, yada, yada and it was fine. My burger was also okay, not hot off the grill but okay. The curly fries were ice cold. There were no condiments or saucing of any kind on the burger, no salt and pepper on the tables. This is also the time when our server vanished.
Because I love cocktails it is sad when they are poorly done. Not that I haven't made some stinkers but I at least tried to care.
Good place for beer and sports. Maybe the noise will make the screaming children not so ... loud, and in your face. Â One tip - I have several but this is a common error of new owners. This is not your living room. Good luck, I really look forward to giving West on North another try.
