This place gets two stars for the huge beer garden, otherwise I would give it one star.
Beer prices are ok, I think I paid $2.50 for an Old Style.
The problem with the place is the douchebag quotient was extremely high.
Possibly Hops & Barley has now been eclipsed by The Windsor as the douchebag capitol of Portage Park.
So I live in the neighborhood and based on what I've read I thought I should stop in and try this place. Â
Dive bar....NO!! There are other dive bars in this area.
Beer Garden, cork dart board, juke box, and good times here. Â
Tried the cheeseburger and fries to see if the kitchen could handle "The Basics."
It was somewhat under-cooked, but did have good flavor.
They have a daily $2 pint special for domestic drafts.
While you will find an occasional "local" who will talk your ear off, there is good atmosphere here.
Friendly place, and I'll try it again. :)
Good, cheap pub grub. Great beer garden.
$2 domestics on Saturday night.
The cheese steak is amazing. Try the cheddar sauce on your fries and attempt to not have a heart attack, I dare you.
Friendly, neighborhood pub that is a tad less sketch than the package store up on Lawrence and a tad more comfortable than Hops and Barley (or Hops and Blackout, as we like to call it).
Stop in.
Italian Beef Crawl Stop #9: Windsor (6:57PM)
We took the bus back after Mr. Beef & Pizza and the night was winding down, seven hours of beef later we had completed our pilgrimage through the northwest side. At Windsor, we had a few more drinks and there was one dartboard to play on. I was introduced to their massive garden patio in the back and people took out the bags and started throwing them. Most everyone was on beef overdose and there was much satisfaction from a fine afternoon of beefin' and beerin' it.
The bar was great and the back patio proved to be the key to this bar since everyone else was inside watching college football. It was a great night and a great place to be with darts! Â Italian Beef Crawl 2010 was a great success, with the 2011 plan to feature the winners of years past. Â Windsor did the trick and I can't wait to go back!
An Irish bar with marylin Monroe pictures on the wall. How original. There is nothing original about this bar and I guess the people go there just because it is near by. There is nothing special about the decor or the mood at this bar. I gues if you are stuck in Portage Park and have nothing better to do with your timethen this is the place to go and be seen. I give it a high ranking just for being an Irish bar in a Polish neighborhood. Ilove to see that.
Review Source:Windsor Tavern is one of those places where they look at you a little funny when you come in the door if you aren't a regular. Â That being said, service was friendly and prompt, even on a busy night. Â Prices are fair, even though we were charged 3 different prices for the same drinks through 3 rounds, but the "average" was still good.
Food = excellent, great bar grub. Â They actually have Shrimp DeJonge on the menu, tho I haven't ventured there yet. Â
The one thing that knocks this place down is the occasional drunken moron factor. Â These guys were bugging my super cute friend, but they were just icky and drunk, so we bugged out.
The Windsor is a nice enough bar, but I've never had a nice enough time there. Â
It's full of low-key folks from the neighborhood who seem to collectively turn their heads as you walk through the door to see if they know you. Â The food is good and Bud and Miller drafts are $2 every day. Â It's a shame then that the barkeeps are awful enough to make you think twice about spending a night boozin' here. Â If the place is empty, they disappear for large amounts of time doing god knows what. Â (Napping? Â Snorting coke? Â Smoking?) Â When the bar is full, there's zero sense of urgency and it takes too long to get a drink. Â
There are plenty of TVs, but none of the viewing angles from the tables are remarkable. Â And either my eyesight is worsening with old age or this place isn't even outfitted with HD. Â Come on, guys!
The Windsor is like the All-American everyman in a movie. Â You can relate to him, but he's boring and forgettable.
Went here with a girlfriend while the hockey playoffs were going on. Â Well, we got there well before the game started so the bar was empty. Â We sat in the beer garden, and it stayed pretty empty while the bar filled up with Hawks fans.
Service was really friendly, food was good. Â Nice that it's in my 'hood.
I love this place, it is the Mercedes-Benz of bar food. The bartender Janetta (I think that's how it's spelled) always takes care of us and is remarkably nice. It's a brisk walk from my house and it's a nice place to unwind on a friday/saturday night. The music is pretty varied (where as most bars just have Lady Gaga on repeat....yuck...). The only thing that ruins it is that sometimes the place is overrun with dumb 20-something jocks who get drunk and yell so loud you can't hear the person next to you. It's not a usual occurance though, it's usually just neighborhood folks. All together a nice place to relax after a long week
Review Source:Hmm well I have mixed feelings about this bar. Being that its only about a mile from me, I still do find myself coming here from time to time. If i were to rate it just on food and prices alone, it's a 4-5. It seems as though every time or almost every time I come in hear crappy bon jovi marathons blasting. And sometimes I feel overwhelmed by all the frat boys. Â Ive also noticed that their isnt much interaction with people outside of their company that they come with. But yeah check out the food, its pretty great and cheap.
