The most noticeable aspect of Mr.  Wok is the restaurant's atmosphere and decor. It's very clean and quiet, which made dining there much more enjoyable for me.

I've only eaten here once so I can't recall everything I ate, but I remember the egg drop soup and the fried wontons being very good. My only problem was that the orange chicken had this funny taste to it that didn't sit too well with me, but since it's not a dish I usually order, I'll let it pass.

    Overall, I'm a fan.

    First time back in years.....
Solid in every respect. Clean, fresh food with good service. Menu is a bit un-inspired and ordinary but more then adequate. Easy to see why they have such a loyal following.

My daughter wanted to know ".....where is Mrs Wok?"

Food is okay, Service is okay.  Dining experience is not comfortable. Street parking is a negative for me.

This place maximized the seating area to be the limit.  It is an uncomfortable eating experience.  I like to have some arm's length personal space when I eat.

Sometimes you're so used to going to a good place that you just forget to write up a review because it's a solid staple in your location.  Mr. Wok's is exactly that.  It is consistently excellent.

Today I actually took 1 hour off from work and had a simply wonderful lunch here with a friend.  You can really unwind in Mr. Wok's quiet ambience and we had, as always, impeccable 5 Star service and a delicious meal.  My friend wanted a noodle soup that was not on the menu and as she started describing it to the waiter, he literally finished the sentence for her and without any delay in preparation time, it was served exactly as requested and she was raving about it.  Everything was just so terrific.

This restaurant has been in Tenafly since 1988 - that's nearly 25 successful years. How many restaurants do you know that have been around that long and every time you go, it's excellent.  Theyy also do a tremendous business in deliveries.

If you are in the Tenafly area and want great Chinese food and/or Sushi, don't hesitate to go to Mr. Wok's.  You'll love it.

First Chinese place to ever charge me for a cup of tea from a tea bag.  that was a turn off.  Not like it was some pricey jasmine tea steeping in a fancy pot or anything.  Food is still good though.

I love Simon and I  love Mr. Wok!

I moved to Tenafly almost 2yrs ago, but only started going here after about a year or so.  Always having heard good things about it, we decided to try it out for ourselves.  We loved it!

I'll keep this short and sweet:
If you're a fan of sesame chicken/general tso type stuff - I recommend their Sesame Chicken (it's all chicken breast!), Crispy Sesame Three Flavor (sliced filet mignon, sliced chicken breast, and jumbo shrimp), and Sesame Shrimp.

TIP: You can order half orders of rice and noodle dishes for half the price!  I'm a fan of both their Young Chow Fried Rice and the Mr. Wok Special Fried Rice.

AWESOME FYI: Their delivery is SUPER FAST.  I've ordered food for delivery and once got my order in 9min.  The longest I've had to wait was 20min.  They also have a computer-based system and customers have a "profile."  They pull you up by telephone number, and they have your address along with any other special notes.  In mine, I have "extra shrimp" because one time I had ordered the Crispy Sesame Three Flavor and only received one shrimp in it (supposed to be at least 3 shrimp).  Another FYI their shrimp in their dishes are big, not like the rinky dink baby shrimp you get at most places.

Honestly, it's not everyday you walk into a Chinese restaurant and you get 5-star service.  Simon is beyond hospitable.  He is one of the nicest, most down-to-earth restaurant owners I've ever met.  Always greets me with a hug and kiss, and offers me tea if it's cold/rainy and I have to pick-up an order.  Always sends something "complements of Simon" to our table, be it a Lo Mein dish or ice cream on the house.  He knows what he's doing, and that's why I'm a regular along with every other satisfied customer.

We came on a Sat. afternoon and were disappointed to only have the option of the dinner menu.  Ended up with a costly lunch.  The place was dead at lunch time! and really quiet.. not that fun!  We felt like we had to whisper! The food was just ok.. not any better than our favorite take out places.  They have some fancier items on the menu.. nice seafood selections.  It's more of an upscale chinese restaurant.  Hard to communicate with the staff.  Nice location on the 2nd floor overlooking Tenafly.  It's been here for years and is likely not going anywhere.. I just think there are better chinese places around.  It's not "upscale" enough to make a difference.

Chinese is never EVER my first choice.  In fact, it's never my third or fourth, either!  I think it's because I've not been exposed to a lot of quality Chinese food in my lifetime.  That said, tonight my husband and I were thinking of ordering dinner and Mr. Wok was the first thing that came to mind.  Having had Mr. Wok last week, I remembered how much I actually enjoy Chinese food when it's good.

Over the past year we have ordered several times from Mr. Wok and it's always consistent.  We always get the Four Seasons, which is a combo of scallops, prawns, beef and chicken in a dark sauce--the seafood is actually really good, and the shrimp/scallops are big and juicy!  We've also tried a few of the other dishes on the specialty menu and have never been disappointed.

Delivery is always timely, order is always right, and the two times we have eaten at the location, we've been seated promptly, treated very nicely and had a great experience.  Overall the food quality is above average -- the food is a bit pricey, but I'll pay $15-$20 for a dinner entree if it's tasty.

If you live in the area and are looking to try a very quality Chinese menu, go to or order from Mr. Wok!  I can't imagine you would ever be disappointed!  I'd give them a 5* if I didn't feel so guilty spending $40 on Chinese food for dinner.

I want to like this place as it's local and reasonably priced but the unfortunate reality is that their food is average at best. Most dishes we have ordered from here lacked taste...including the spare ribs which are usually a fail-safe at Chinese restaurants. Even the soup was sub-par so, needless to say, the prospect of us trying additional fare here is not particularly exciting.  It's worth noting that we have never tried any items off their Japanese menu, and, given our experience with the Chinese fare, it is highly unlikely that we will.

This place is tiny but homey. The owner is constantly out there getting to know his customers and if you didn't know better you'd probably mistake him for a waiter. The food is always up to par and the added sushi bar is fantastic. That's some pretty fresh fish for a location that far from water. And I enjoy that it's slightly pricier than normal takeout Chinese food because you can actually have a nice business luncheon there without feeling like a cheapo.

Better delivered than sitting in.  It has the usual greasy carpet chinese restaurant feel.

Have come here since they opened. Fast friendly service make you feel like your one of the family. Superb Chinese food and incredible fresh sushi. All dishes artfully presented and generous portions. They also make the best hot and sour soup in the business! Great place for small parties too and the BYOB keeps your costs down.

Typical Chinese food.  Didn't try the sushi, but it looked ok.  Would only go back, if I happened to go with friends who went.

My family has been coming here for a very long time, before it was "Mr. Wok" and when it was "Look See."

It's decent Chinese food.  I don't think we've gone there for sit down food for a few years now, but the delivery is still pretty good.  Sometimes it takes a while.  Definitely recommend it if you're looking for Chinese take out in the area.

I could not recommend it because the food was not really that great.  It is also on the expensive side.  Some of the the take out Chinese places had better tasting food than Mr Wok.  It has been around for a while so I probably need to find the "good" dishes - which I obviously missed.

The place had a musty, unpleasant odor when we walked upstairs. The rolls were overpriced and puny (you would get the same thing in any NYC restaurant for approx $1 if not less). The food was hugely overpriced and extremely salty, more so than any other Chinese restaurant. We ordered the chicken with cashew nuts. The nuts were dumped raw over the chicken as an afterthought but we were charged $14 for the dish that would cost approx $9 in any other decent place.  However the view was spectacular over the downtown Tenafly....

An okay place for a casual meal in a very nice atmosphere.  Menu offers a  reasonable selection of food (including sushi) which overall sounds good but on arrival the quality is average. A bit overpriced, one is paying a little more for the atmosphere than the food quality.  Service is polite but not at all professional.
Sure, I'd go again but I'm in no rush.

This dining experience was a world wind of emotions....one second I was ready to walk out the next i was overly impressed with the staff, food and atmosphere.

We came here on Christmas. Being one of the few places open on Christmas it was packed. I suspected this and called to see what the wait would be. The guy told me it would be 30-45 minutes for a party of four. He took my name down and we arrived a little more than 30 minutes later. The Hostess pretended too but obviously didn't have my name written down since she asked me the number in the party again. We waited another 35 minutes and were finally seated.

The server was quick to get to us and attentive throughout the dinner. We ordered seamed pork dumplings to start which were average tasting. I had two rolles for dinner. One of the rolls was missing scallions. The owner/manager quickly brought me another roll and apologized for this miss step. The fish tasted fresh and overall I was happy with the rolls flavor once they got the second one right.

My mother had kung pow chicken which was very very good. Not too greasy and had some flavor to it without being overly spiced. That being said there was a bone in it that she crunched on.

    So to review,

    Pros:
    Good quality fish for sushi
    Not too greasy chinese dishes
    Very attentive service

    Cons:
Lost my reservation and pretended that they didn't
Packaged crispy noodles to start (not made in the restaurant)
Bone/rock/hard thing in the kung pow chicken
Forgetting to put scallion in one of my sushi rolls

All and all that = 3 stars

My boyfriends family has been coming here for years - a family favorite. Fresh and delicious chinese and japanese cuisine served on crisp and clean white tablecloths.  A large array of sushi available.  Service is quick, polite and accurate.  Located above the stores of downtown, the unusual entrance is up a flight of stairs (or elevator) and the restaurant is located on the second floor of the building.  To make-up for the trek upward, the view of downtown Tenafly is beautiful and really highlights what a nice town it is.  They do not serve alcohol, but Wine Ventures is just a block or two away, offers a great assortment and can easily pair a light wine for a chinese/japanese meal.  We've also had Mr. Wok's take-out and they are fast!!  Delicious, hot food quickly at your doorstep.

Try the edamame, sesame chicken and any of the handwrapped sushi.
