great place. the food is way above average and the service is great. If you stay after dinner to watch the band or dance with the dj that's where it might get a little dicey. there is one particular female bartender that has quite an attitude problem. that aside the bands are great and the dj's pump out good tunes. my party of 8 was very pleased and i'll return frequently as I love the atmosphere
Review Source:The first thing you see in the place is the old looking real wood paneling. The place looks like your Mother an Father ate here. After eating the food I think that the chef cooked for them. It's that good and wasn't their first rodeo. We came from a funeral so the times weren't the best. Now about 30 of us were in the party. This place handled it like they do it all the time and maybe they do. My food was hot when I received it and so was everyone around me. We enjoyed a fixed menu of apps, salad, entree, and dessert. The salad was crisp and fresh and the dressing was also house made. Both my steak and my wife's were cooked perfectly mine was med rare and the wife's was well. As well as the other diners. I didn't hear a complaint out of anybody in our group. The dessert was also very tasty and probably ruined my diet but oh well. It was worth it. I do have to take my hat off to the staff at Woodhaven House for making a lousy time into a delish moment in time. Thanks.
Review Source:Great neighborhood bar!
Came here for a bridal shower of apx 45 people. They have a semi private party area on the side. We had a good variety of brunch selections to choose from, which included several salads, eggs benedict, steak and eggs, and burgers. The service was fine, no complaints until when the entire party was seated, then I felt they should add another server to accomodate.
I've been here several times just to sit at the bar or to watch a live band perform and still think it's a great place.
Went here on a Saturday night with a friend. We got a table by the bar and ordered the app platter. It was okay, typical bar food as expected. Got a couple of beers. Service was okay. Atmosphere was a mixed crowd. By 1030pm, it got crowded. What was great about this place was that I accidentally added up the tip to my check and realized it when i got home. i figured no big deal, the waitress would just be happy with a larger tip, but they charged only the subtotal plus the tip so the bill came out to what I thought it should be on my credit card. That's great class! I will definitely go back when I'm in the neighborhood.
Review Source:I went here once more, and I was rather disappointed. Beer selection was OK, but the food was rather lackluster. I had the rigatoni a la vodka, and it was bland. It tasted kind of funny, and it wasn't even all that hot. For $16, it was so NOT worth the price. I'll stick to drinks here for next time.
Review Source:Woodhaven House is truly a beautiful restaurant. Â It is very easy to forget you're in Queens while in this classicly elegant Irish Pub. Â The service can be slow, but that is not a matter of neglect but rather a more laid back European style of dining. Â The servers and staff are very accommodating and genuinely helpful.
As far as the food goes, the brunch menu has a wide variety of choices that are well done and well priced. Â The regular menu offers traditional Irish/American inspired fare at reasonable prices as well. Â You can enjoy anything from a burger to sheppheards pie to steak. Â I had the opportunity to try the burger, salad, steak sandwich, and pizza, all of which were fresh and well prepared.
The best thing about Woodhaven House is the family atmosphere. Â The food is solid pub fare served in a family style atmosphere that is good for kids from 1 to 100.
LOOVE Woodhaven House!! Â Went several times! Â One night my husband and I went when they had Karaoke with an Amazing Band playing the music! Â They made any voice sound good! Â But that place was Rockin!! Â We had an Amazing Time!! :)
Then, We went for a quick bite to eat and I got the Arugula Salad with Goat Cheese and I added the Grilled Shrimp. Â The Salad Is absolutely Delish!!!
Then, I called a friend 2 days ago and asked her if she wanted to meet me for a last minute lunch, so it was great we met at Woodhaven House! Â As soon as we walked in The Bartender was soooo sweet and kind and accommodating!! Â He explained ALL of the Beers to us (he really knew his stuff) Â and He let That was so nice of Him!! Â He educated us which one had more hops etc. Â And who knew that Guinness has Less Calories than Bud!
Off to our Lovely little Nook of a table, I once again decided on the Arugula salad with the grilled shrimp Topped with Soft Yummy Generous Slice of Goat cheese and the salad was sprinkled with Walnuts. Â Again... A Winner and Filling!!
My Friend had the Chef Salad and she loved it! Â It was really nicely done! Â and had tons of protein in it!! Â And the salads were mixed perfectly not swimming in dressing!
The Bread Basket.... at the bottom are these little gems..... Little Irish Soda Bread mini Biscuits They are Yummy! Â And I Always Avoid the Bread Basket But I could not resist and the waitress even gave my half a dozen to take home! Â
Thank You Woodhaven House.... Bartender You were a Delight! and Waitress was Sweet. The only thing I did not understand..... The restaurant was empty she sat a family of 4 with 2 kids next to us? we were like Why? And we have children but this was "our Girl Time" Plus the entire place was empty!!! Â
But... I Will Certainly be Back!! :0)
I have eaten here many times for two reasons, food is not bad and I live 1 block away. The only things I would recommend getting would be a burger or fajitas, all other things are just, okay. I am not pleased with their prices, though. Have they forgotten where they are located, I mean really, it is Woodhaven Blvd. In Queens! All their prices are more expensive than comparable bars in Manhattan or Williamsburg. For example, their beers are $7. Ridiculous!!! is all I have to say about that.
Review Source:No one came to seat us, so the bartender took over the hostess job and seated us. Â Nice bartenders. Â 0 wait service. Â We had to flag down the bus boy, who did a great job, to get anything. Â The waitresses all sat at the bar the entire time we were there with drinks and talked or whatever. Â I don't care. Â the food was good! Â We had fish and chips, which were really tasty, egg noodle seafood fettuccine, which was nice, and blackened salmon, which was really good! Â The whole experience could have been better and possibly gotten a 4 or 5 star rating if the waitresses cared at all.
Review Source:This place really is great! What a nice ambiance...the perfect place for dinner and drinks with a date, a friend or a group of friends and family! The food and service are great with prices about what you'd expect for such an establishment. I would highly recommend. One thing you ought to be aware of, though: the Guinness here is on par with the best! Please be sure to try one.
Just wanted to add that I had the blackened swordfish the other night and it was delicious!
Visited the Woodhaven House for brunch, so my perspective is limited to a relatively quiet Irish Pub on a Sunday, early afternoon. Â The menu was adequate and my dish was OK, although others that I was with had some complaints. Â It's OK for a local meal but when I'm in the mood to travel to the city for brunch, which is typically the case, that is clearly a better option.
Review Source:Woodhaven House is not reinventing the wheel here. It is a standard Irish bar/restaurant. Â As is typical, the bartenders are from the old country and all are friendly. The food is what you'd expect from pub grub, sprinkled with Irish standards like shepards pie and bangers and mash. Bands play on the weekends and valet parking is available.
Review Source:Had Sunday brunch at the Woodhaven House. Â For $15 you get a drink (bloody mary, mimosa, or screwdriver), and a brunch entree. Â We all ordered the steak and eggs. Â The sirloin steak was a generous size, and was delicious. Â We all agreed that is the most tender sirloin steak that any of us have ever had. Â The potatoes were delicious, and eggs were cooked perfectly as ordered. Â Excellent prompt service from the waitress. Â Will definitely do the Sunday brunch again, with the hope that given the quality of the sirloin steak we had, that this was not an anomaly.
Review Source:If we were to rate just on food, service and decor I would give 5 stars. The Bacon scallops and rack of lamb is my favorite. But the kitchen closes and they continue till 4:30 like any other NY Bar. I detract points because they charge city prices in Queens. $ 7.50 for unchilled box o Zin in a small hot glass is wrong. The beer on tap choice is good but again overpriced. As a regular and a local, which is all of their clientelle, you could stand it, but to NEVER get a buy back is outrageous. So I would suggest enjoy your dinner and be on your way to somewhere for drinks you will be appreciated or pre-game hard before you come to see the band. The bands are always excellent mostly rock n roll and the crowd is usually aged over 30. They throw worthy Halloween and New Years Eve Parties. Just remember to have lots of money when you come.
Review Source:I find it a NYC necessity to have a local Irish bar in walking distance where I can enjoy a pint of Guinness and OK food with friends and family. Â Woodhaven House delivers.
The staff is always friendly and the service is often timely. Â Most visits (and I have frequented this place about 10 times in the past 2 years) include going with wife and kids for a couple of burgers (mine veggie burger), a couple of Guinness and a kid's chicken fingers and fries. Â it has a nice balance of being very good for families with kids and an adult destination.
It has the feel of a classic public house; little nooks to sit in, big room for the occasional large group, big TVs for those who want to watch the game or private area to avoid all. At the bar, there are the conversations laughing about the ills of the world with bartenders who are friendly and attentive enough to engage or leave you alone. With the local daily papers to the side, it can be warm and inviting for day drink and good for an evening with friends.
Oh, and not to forget the Guinness is served perfectly.
Today, everything is about the BBD-the bigger, better deal. We have gone here a few times and the food is OK. This time I noticed they are charging $10 for a kid's meal. $10?? That is crazy for a bowl of raviolis or chicken nuggets. Ok so I order my meal regardless and order stuffed shrimp. When I get it, it tastes like dirty dishwater. The mashed potatoes were tasteless and the service-did we have a waitress? Someone came to take our order, bring food and check, nothing more.
Review Source:This review is for drinking only, I didn't taste the food. Â Walking in, it seemed unfriendly, and nobody would look to see I was asking if this stool was taken. Â But that turned out to be for the best. Â We sat outside away from the boulevard, so that was wonderful to look at the clouds.
Leaving to play the bill, we saw families at tables, and it seems like a friendly family place, with kids running around. Â Reading the website, they say "etched glass" one to many times for my taste. Â Really, etched glass? Â Wood seems nice (as everyone points out), but there are all these weird angles, I could see bumping into them and hurting myself. Â Maybe in 100 years they will be worn down and less sharp. Â There are of course the ubiquitous big TV screens so you can watch the ball game.
They have Brooklyn Lager on tap, so their beer selection is good in my book. Â I'll try the Guinness next time.
Living in walking distance of the Woodhaven House is clutch because this is a great place to eat and hang out. I've been having dinner and meeting friends and the WH ever since it opened and it's always a good time. I've never been disappointed by the food, and the bar really picks up at nights on the weekends. They usually have live music which is good, and loud.
Review Source:I came here last night for my job's holiday party, which packed the place with teachers. Watch that drink buddy - we've got eyes on the back of our heads.
That décor was festive but not over the top. Both inside and outside, Woodhaven house has an old-school, cozy pub charm. As Amy H. points out, there are lots of wooden beams and walls. There's a wrap around bar and plenty of space for standing and for sitting. There are many smaller tables and booths tucked away on the sides or behind short walls for a more private gathering. It looks appropriate for any occasion: family dinner, outing with friends, office party or weekend brunch.
Now for the food and drinks:
There's a full bar here but come for good old pubby-bubbly beer. I had 2 hearty pints of Spaten Otoberfest. One of my favorite cold weather brews now! They have over 10 other beers on draft and a wide array of bottles as well.
The menu looked diverse and I spotted plenty of dishes I wanted to try out - like the coconut shrimp, bacon wrapped sea scallops or the baby back ribs. Mmmmmm. But since it was a holiday gathering with coworkers, we all paid $5 bucks for some finger foods they put out. They were pretty good too! We gobbled up some amazing mozzarella sticks, fried chicken wings, skewers (which I didn't get to try) and chicken fingers. And not the skinny little chicken fingers either. I'm talking big hunks of chicken breasts with a good amount of batter and super crispy. I've had a taste of Woodhaven House and will definitely come back for a full meal.
I dont think there was one thing about this experience that I enjoyed. Oh, right, I thoroughly enjoyed thinking to myself as I was walking out that I would never come here again. The sh*tshow started as soon as my girlfriend and I walked in. The hostess looked like she'd rather be getting an enema with battery acid than working here. My girlfriend said she didn't want to sit near the door, so she sits us near the door. Almost the entire time we were there, instead of doing her job she was reading the Daily News at the bar. The server we had was an old woman who looked like she was just trying to make a few extra bucks because her husband wasnt getting enough Social Security benefits. Everything on the menu was overpriced. Â We ordered the bacon wrapped scallops to start. They came out so fast they must have been microwaved. Thank God I didn't get sick from them. The waitress was egregiously inattentive. She had a genuine look of surprise on her face when we asked for refills of our water and Diet Coke. I was in the mood for a burger after having so much turkey over the past few days. A plain hamburger cost $10 and $0.75 for each topping. I ended up paying $11.50 for a burger that was barely diner quality. Five Guys puts it to shame and at half the price. At this point I just wanted to get the hell out of there. My girlfriend even overheard the hostess saying to another server "shoot me now". The place was pretty much empty the entire time we were there. I hope this place runs out of money and closes soon and makes way for something better.
Also they still had outdoor seating in the middle of November. (Lazy)
I really wanted to like this place. The decor is pretty nice, a step up from the classic Irish bar. Â I went to my cousin's bridal shower there and the service was slow. I don't think they're used to catering for parties, not enough wait staff or busboys to just get refills on the pitchers. Â There was never someone available waiting to serve, you had to catch them coming out the kitchen and hail them down. Â But surprisingly, the food was pretty decent. Everyone enjoyed the salad app and their entrees.
After experiencing that, figured, hey, bring my family back for brunch on a Sunday. Our waitress was very elderly and nice and accommodating though I am always wary when people don't write down what you order. Â And then they have to come back and reconfirm what you wanted. Really?? If you think you can memorize it without writing it down, then don't come back to ask again. Is it that hard to jot down an order? Â But this was the clincher, on the kids menu, they had ravioli's. It was straight from a Chef Boyardee can. Â I grew up on the stuff and can smell/taste it a mile away. You're gonna charge me whatever it was, $8 for a $1 can of Chef Boyardee raviolis. Sooo disappointing. Â I had the fish and chips, it was average. Hubby had the open faced turkey entree. Â Again, the cranberry sauce, can you at least make it appear that it didn't come from the can. When you can see the clear indentations from the can, anyone can open a can and scoop it out. Â ughhh... it takes 2 seconds to smash it with a fork to create the illusion you made it yourself people!
So, you can tell, not going to go back to this place. Many other restaurants to try in the neighborhood.
Ehhh. It looks nice and there's even a band most of the nights, so it is actually pretty lively for a bar. As a restaurant, not my thing, way over-priced for mediocre food, they do take http://restaurant.com coupons though. Sorry for the unhelpful review, take it for what it is.
Review Source:Frugal pricing for an entry level but classy restaurant. Very good staff that actually cares and knows how to treat the customer. No complaints about the food although some dishes are better than others. Definitely try the Meat lovers pizza its veryyy good. Place also has a bar which is nice, Overall nice mellow atmosphere.
:)
I totally enjoyed my dinner here, I went with two friends so I got to try a few dishes. I tried the crab cakes which were small but very good, the roasted chicken with mash potatoes was great especially the mash was one of the best I ever had. I also had the pizza and it was very thin and crispy. I was very surprise by the quality of the food.
Review Source:A decidedly slightly upscale "pub" with really good food. Â Has that traditional pub decor with lots of wood and tons of space. Â Broad range of menu items. Â Some highlights: arugula salad with goat cheese and bacon, steak frites, sesame-crusted tilapia. Â Also serving pizza, burgers, and other bar fare. Lots of TV's for game viewing, live music on the weekends.
Review Source:Not a bad place to hang out. Â Went there with a few friends for a school reunion and we really enjoyed ourselves. Â I was there on a Friday night so we were able to enjoy the live music though it wasn't the best cause they played some kind of heavy rock of some sort.
We had drinks and some finger food which wasn't bad. I can't vouch for the actual food because we stood at the bar for a few hours and didn't order actual entrées. The place started getting really crowded about 11pm.
Every pub should be modeled after this place. Â It has a huge wrap around mahogany bar and the inside is dimly lit. Â Perfect setting for drinking. Â They have great live bands performing into the wee hours of the night. Â All the bartenders are great guys to b.s. with (especially John). Â I strictly go there just to drink. Â I have had some of their food, which is not terrible but it's nothing great either. Â Stick to the Irish fare...chicken pot pie, shepards pie, fish and chips etc. Â The one thing that I really do love their is the buffalo wings. Â Some of the best I have had. Â Spicy and kind of bbq'y...they are so good.
This would be 5 stars but at times the live music is played way too loud and just seems like overkill. Â
Great place to go with friends or just drown out your sorrows with a pint. Guinness makes everything better. Â Cheers!!!
Formerly Kate Cassidy's, Woodhaven House is a very good place both to dine and to kick back and have a few drinks and see a local classic rock band perform.
The bathrooms are down a flight of stairs.
The dining area is separate from the bar area. Â The food is good (you must try their thin crust pizza!) and the price is reasonable. Â They only take reservations for parties of four or more. Â The staff is friendly and most of the clientele is also friendly.
People of all ages hang out here; a lot of them in their 30s and 40s. Â Live bands (mostly classic rock) play on Friday and Saturday nights. Â The place sometimes gets way too crowded during those nights. Â
This is one of my favorite hangout spots!
I ate here for the first time tonight and both my girlfriend and I were impressed. Â We really liked the atmosphere. Â It was a Saturday night and there were a lot of people there both at the bar and seated eating dinner. Â The menu has a lot of things I generally like to eat. Â I had the burger which was really good. Â Kim had a steak au poivre which was also really good. Â The Ceasar salad was tasty as well. Â And the prices are very reasonable. Â A very social, well kept and decorated bar/restaurant. Â I recommend it, and will be returning.
Review Source:Really not so great. Â I used to go to this place as a child when it was Kate Cassidy's and I liked it better then.
The decor has greatly improved but the food is only okay. Â The "bar style" food I think is better. Â The last time I went I was not happy with our service, our waitress was very nasty.
I went with a group of old work friends and our food was mediocre. Â We ordered a few appetizers, the ribs were really good. Â The calamari was not good, the wings okay. Â I liked my salad which was the one that had goat cheese. Â My burger was really not good. Â My friend ordered steak poivre and trust me, it was not steak poivre. Â
I have been here for brunch though and I really like their brunch menu, the last time was on mother's day so I can't really remember exactly what I had but I have always enjoyed the brunch.
I went to a work function here once also, Â which was a buffet style dinner, which also was not so crazy about.
I wouldn't go back for dinner, but for drinks yes. Â I would go back for brunch also.
Our party came to Woodhaven House for a birthday celebration. The space was quite nice - a welcoming Irish pub. And the service was attentive.
But the food (or what I had) was definitely lacking. I had the New Zealand rack of lamb with Japanese bread crumbs. It was highly recommended by a friend. I had ordered it done medium rare. But the dish was not thoroughly medium rare (as some parts were much more well done than others). Overall, however, the lamb was a bit on the dry side, and just not very flavorful. I like lamb, and was disappointed that it didn't taste as good as I had been expecting. I had also tasted the cod and chips - nothing special and a relatively small portion. For the prices we were paying, I was definitely expecting better.
On a more positive note -- the mashed potatoes that came with my lamb were good; and the fajitas looked and smelled quite good, though I didn't actually get to try them.
Woodhaven House is a nice little pub on Woodhaven Boulevard. Â It was formerly the well known Kate Cassidy's, and while it is missed, Woodhaven House has been doing great making a name for themselves. Â
Well known Irish bands, both world wide and local have held concerts at Woodhaven House. Â
The facade is looking really good, a big improvement from what was left sitting there during renovations. Â The inside is nice as well with dark wood and nicely dressed tables. Â The outdoor seating is nice also .. plenty of seating on both Woodhaven and the side street 63rd Ave. Â
I have eaten at the Woodhaven House a few times. Â The Sheperd's Pie is good, but it was nothing memorable. Â The salads are always fresh and taste good and the veggie burger I had today was OK. Â I feel like when it comes to the food they could improve drastically, especially since their is a full menu for the 'restaurant' portion ... and that the prices are on the high end side. Â
Bernie is a lovely waitress.
