So I had to write about Yuen's. I haven't had the best of luck with Chinese delivery restaurants on the Northside of Chicago. Actually, delivery in general. The food is usually not great or their delivery takes for ever. Now I've ordered from Yuen's twice and both times, they've surprised me.

I first ordered from here back in December...they estimated 45-50 minutes for my delivery time when I ordered online via GrubHub, which I expected considering it was a Saturday evening. The delivery guy showed up in 20 minutes. My food was hot and actually pretty good.

I ordered from there again today (another Saturday evening) and, once again, GrubHub said it would take 45-50 minutes to get here. The delivery guy showed up in 25 minutes! And once again, my food is pretty damn good!

Yuen's is now my go-to Chinese place on the Northside! Hopefully I don't move anytime soon because it took me almost 2 years to find a place I actually liked!

Good standard Chinese fair with ample sized portions. Not the best Chinese food around but you do get alot of bang for your buck.

Okay, so I love Chinese food and I've had this place before and it was decent so I thought i would go for it again. i ordered the General's chicken dinner that included fried rice w/ egg roll and a pop. I also ordered pot-stickers and I could have tripped myself for doing so. The pot-stickers were so gooey and just all wrong, I couldn't get past the second bite so to the trash they went. The General's chicken was kinda of edible but it had an interesting after taste that made you questioned what the hell they cooked the food in. I took a few bites and vetoed the the chicken as well. Finally I got the rice and egg roll. The rice tasted like they cooked it in a pan that wasn't cleaned b/c it has a soap/chemical taste to it and the eggroll was FOUL. It tasted sour and looked like someone dropped a crap load of cinnamon in the eggroll....I took a bite, looked inside and threw it away just as I did with the other food. Everything was nasty except for the canned pop! Negative on Yuen's Chinese Kitchen, I rather eat noodles!

    Kind of indifferent towards Yuen's.
It's not bad food, but also not OMG AMAZING. Just your standard American Chinese food.

Ordered Mongolian Beef, which seemed to be more veggies than beef. It came with chicken fried rice (which it took me a while to find the chicken), and an egg roll. Apparently for them, fried wontons means just deep fried wonton warpers, no filling at all. (But based on the price I wasn't too surprised.) Happy they called me to tell me they were out of watermelon for their smoothies--well, not happy they were out, but glad they called to find out what I wanted instead. Strawberry, not bad, but the watermelon was sort of why I picked Yuen's.

I think my biggest complaint was how long it took. It's only a five minute drive, yet it still took an hour for it to arrive. (Thinking they use a delivery service 'cause the old dude who brought me my food didn't even know that I had paid already.)

Won't be my go-to place, but it'll do.

I was a little skeptical about ordering food from a strip mall..however-we ordered quite a bit-veggie fried rice, veggie egg rolls, schezwan broccoli, lo mein, and vegetable delight all of which were pretty good. They use a different sized noodle for the lo mein though..wider and thicker than normal.

I would order again for sure.

Great value. Had schezuan shrimp. Asked for broccoli but there wasn't any. Other veggies were a bit overcooked and the eggroll was a bit undercooked. The large veggie soup is great and super good value.  For $5-$6 lunch combos you can't go wrong.

It's no-frills Chinese food.  What I like is they have our food ready for pickup within 15 minutes.  They also give super big portions.  Even a small will have leftovers.

We just tried Yuen's - Yum! It's hidden in a tiny strip mall, so even though we live pretty close, we never even noticed it before. But we walked by a few of days ago and picked up a take-out menu and ordered delivery yesterday.

We give it 4 stars instead of five becasue it's not the most amazxing, awesome food, but it's really, really good! So if they let you give 4.5 stars, that's what we would give it.

The crab rangoon - very good. Not the best, but there's a good amount of tasty filing. Hubby really liked the fried rice. I loved the Singapore noodles - tasty and pretty spicy, just how I like it! The lo mein is done with a different type noodle than we are used to (a little thicker and flatter), but was good. And hubby special ordered the veggie delight with just veggies that he likes, and he loved it.

For those of you keeping score, that's two loves, two really likes, and one like for the individual dishes.

The delivery was fast (by a really nice guy), and it was fairly inexpensive.

    Win!

Decent-ish.. Big portions, but even with ordering "extra meat", I was underwhelmed as it was mainly veggie filler.. Pot stickers were doughy (good for me, bad for the wife) and egg rolls were good.. Crab Rangoon was so-so, though better than some places.. Fried pretty hard, and and a decent amount of cheese.

Schezuan combo was meh.. Chicken was overcooked, beef was a bit tough, just bland.. Very much so for the Mongolian Beef.. tough, so-so flavor, a bit of heat, but nothing that stands out.

Overall it's better than some places I've tried, worse than others.. Delivery was a little over an hour via Grubhub to Uptown.

    Order from somewhere else!
We've ordered from them twice and each time they've forgotten the sauce for the Mu Shu Pork. Each time we call & they say they'll send some but then never do. The first time, after repeated calls about the MIA sauce, they offered us a refund only on the dollar value of the sauce, about a dollar. Each time they promise to deliver but it never gets delivered. We eventually got the sauce after an hour of waiting.
All of this wouldn't have been so bad except the first time, the person on the phone barely spoke English and it was difficult trying to get them to understand the situation. The 2nd time, the woman on the phone was the rudest person I've spoken to in years. She kept sighing and asking if I was sure I wanted the sauce. She single-handedly made me furious over something that should have been trivial. If she hadn't been so rude about us wanting the sauce I would have given them a better rating, and we may have ordered from them in the future. But it's not worth it.

100% of the times we've ordered from them our order is wrong and there's serious difficulties trying to get the correct order.

The other food (pot stickers, egg rolls, Beef with Borccoli) was average at best.

Had Yuen's delivered via GrubHub and was thoroughly impressed. Delicious Szechuan shrimp and broccoli and some of the most flavorful hot and sour soup I've ever had. I even liked my boyfriends egg foo young, which I usually hate. Also, the portions are huge, which is great... 6 meals for $30, not too bad!

    Not bad.

Ordered the lunch special, via Grub Hub. He got the Rib Tips with garlic sauce. I got the Mongolian chicken. Both were alright, hit the spot when you crave TV and Chinese food.

Its great! Comes with a myriad of fried rice choices, an eggroll (not good) and a pop for like 5.50. Cheap.

Portions are OUTTA CONTROL large. Leftovers for a few meals.

The Rangoon. YEEEES PLEASE. Large, fully stuffed. Good. Not like other places that just give you crunchy fried batter. These are mainly creamy filling. Though they don't come with sauce.

I like Yuens.  It is consistently good Chinese food.  I like the pan fried noodle dishes and excellent Mongolian beef.  Huge portions are a plus.

ok where should I start here??? The price is cheaper than others, portion was fine and food was good. I've had better but c'mon u for the price it is actually a very fast delivery and good portion food. I got the beef pepper tomato and hot sour soup. Beef pepper needed bit season or salt. Hot and sour soup should be named hot and sweet soup. It was little bit different than others. My bf always gets orange chicken and fried rice/he is a taster of those two believe me/ As long as he didn't complain about his dishes I will give them an A. Crab rangoonS/8 for 4.50 can you believe it???/ are perfect!!! Over all until I find better place around my neighborhood I will get my Chinese from there!!!

Portion size outweighs the food quality.  I would rather have half the portion they serve with better quality ingredients, the meat is low grade.  I don't know why people can't understand that:
Low Prices + Big Porions = Low Quality Food
Still haven't found really good Chinese takeout in RP.

The food is good and definitely fast.

We got the chicken fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, and crab rangoons. I am really picky about crab rangoons and was pleasantly surprised. I usually prefer them to be sweeter but these were still tasty.

Good, authentic Chinese (Americanized) food (even the cook is Chinese - yep, I know coz I peeked in). The restaurant is super tiny with just a few tables.  Better to have it to go or delivered. Cheaper and better than your Panda Express, for sure!

The food is fine - pretty standard fare for hole-in-the-wall Chinese.  There is parking for pick-ups and delivery is quick.  So why only 2 stars, you ask?  Because I don't appreciate the racist commentary about my neighbors that I got from the delivery driver.  Completely inappropriate and gross.  I won't be ordering from them again.

Fresh, not so greasy, traditional Americanized Chinese food. It's cheap and I'm a fan.

Hot, fresh, tasty, fast delivery. Good meats, plentiful veggies, huge portions. Different dishes actually taste...well, different. Pot stickers rock. Lo mein also a winner. All the soups are great. Egg foo dishes are in a heavy brown sauce that I'm not a fan of, but that's just a personal taste thing. As far as Chinese take-out goes, Yuen's is a top-notch value.

Yuen's chinese kitchen serves good food at an amazing price.  I stop by this place at least once a week to get the lunch specials and fried noodles.  This is one of the few places that you can get Pan Fried noodles also and it's delicious.  I can buy one dinner at 7 bucks and split it to 3 meals, what a bargain.  They also use considerably less fat and grease than other Chinese restaurants in the area as well.  Rib Tips are a popular item as well, 4 bucks for a large portion of rib tips, rice and a drink, you can't go wrong.

Good food +  large portions + small price = great stuff

Yeun's only earns 4 stars for me because it is literally the only Chinese place that delivers to me that is not over-priced and is actually edible. The portions here are HUGE so it's quantity over (top)quality. The Tso's chicken was ok as well as the bbq pork with chinese greens. The fried rice here is delicious, especially the spicy kinds and they put the large size in this oversized square box that weighs 5 pounds and takes me 2 days to eat. The egg drop soup has fresh sliced green onions on it that gives it a very earthy flavor. The chicken almond ding is very different tasting but is obviously made with freshly cut vegetables and although maybe a little bland touches up nicely with a bit of salt. If you order enough food you get some free chicken wings that are also fantastic.
Anyways, bottom line, if your pockets are hurting and you're hungry this is the place that satisfies without putting you on the street.

What do you do when you're desperate to satisfy your hunger pangs on a cold misty evening at 8:30pm?

You go to Yuens and order their combination spicy fried rice and the best fried chicken wings this side of town!

Prices are reasonable (Fried Chicken wings: 3pcs for $2.50; 6 pcs for $3.50 - they give you the entire wing, not sections). Their small size orders put others to shame as you get a lot. And again, prices are pretty good.

If you live in the area, it's worth a try. Otherwise they deliver as well.
