I want to give them between 3.5 and 4 stars.
Advice: Make a reservation.
We did not have one so we had to wait in the very crowded, loud bar downstairs for a table. I couldn't hear my husband talking from across the table and our server was exhausted and over-worked. It was a little dicey at first....
We had been to the bar on a less-busy weeknight and it was just fine. For whatever reason this particular Saturday evening was crazy!
But once we got a table upstairs, our service was excellent and the food was better than expected. The menu items seem ordinary (fried chicken and burgers?!) but it was anything but ordinary -- the chef added some surprises and the flavors were excellent. I have read they hired a new chef and if that is the case, good on him/her! It was delicious!
The decor is nice, the atmosphere upstairs is fun, but the basement bar was just too much for us on a Saturday. It was standing room only and people were elbow to elbow, making it tough to get drinks and food between all the patrons to the tables. I felt awful for our server, who kept a smile on her face despite sweating and racing back and forth between the bar and tables.
I meet some friends over Christmas here when I came back home to Indiana. Â I picked this place at random and my friends were a little worried that this place would be too trendy. Â In the end, it was just an updated, modern version of southern comfort food.
Meal: II had the pork belly with collard greens. Â I also had a few of the local brews, but I don't remember what they were.
Taste: Â I feel awful for saying this. Â I feel like what I am about to say is blasphemous; this is the best meal I have had in Indiana for a very, very long time. Â The pork belly was perfect. Â It was fatty and crunchy on the outside. Â It was perfectly seasoned. Â The collar greens (and I recommend asking for extra liquor) were the best I have ever had. Â I grew up eating collard greens in the south and when I moved to the midwest, I stopped eating them because no one knew how to cook them in Indiana. Â Every once in a while I will give a place a chance but it usually sucks. Â But the collard greens were really the highlight of the night, outside of meeting up with old friends. Â 10 out of 10.
Value: Â The portions were fair. Â Not bad but not great. Â But honestly, when a meal is so tremendously good, do portion sizes really matter? Â I know I might have a conflicting Yelp review that says otherwise, but for 10-01, I will make the exception. Â 5 out of 5.
Service/Cleanliness: Â I waited at the bar before my friends arrived. Â The bartender was extremely friendly and attentive. Â The waiter during the meal was pretty good too. Â He offered up good suggestions and gave us honest feed back and had it not been for him, I may have never ordered the pork belly. 9 out of 10.
Atmosphere: Â I likes the atmosphere a lot. Â It was chill without coming off as to0 trendy or hispterish. Â The bar was the perfect balance of liveliness and intimacy. My first fear is that this place would have a presumptuous atmosphere, but it didn't. Â 5 out of 5.
Overall: Â When I go back to Indiana, this will be the first place I visit. Â You can have your St. Elmo's, I take 10-01. Â 29 out of 30 points, 5 out of 5 stars.
Really attractive space -- the dining room is kind of loud, and the bar in the basement is a close, lively place with a nice vibe and live music. Â The menu is "comfort food with a twist," and it's a terrific menu with great specials. Â Amazing fried chicken, great flatbreads (including build your own), sandwiches, barbeque, tomato bisque and grilled cheese, burgers. pork belly with white beans and collard greens . . . Â Superb service, good drinks and a great deck overlooking Broad Ripple Avenue.
Review Source:This was my 4th or 5th time to the restaurant. I had not been in months because in my previous visits, the food was just mediocre. This visit was an entirely different experience.
The chef from The Meridian (another favorite of mine) has relocated to 10-01. And boy was that a good hire! The menu is still very approachable, however, there are tweaks and additions that are interesting, to say the least. My hubby & I both started with a cup of the tomato bisque. It was pretty standard, which is exactly how I like my bisque. You can't go wrong with that as a starter.
For our entrees, I decided to try the Fork & Knife Sandwich. I was not disappointed. The horseradish on this sandwich is amazing - it had just the right kick. My husband chose the blue burger, and he loved the blue cheese. It was perfectly melted. The only suggestion was that he should have gone down a level on how the burger was cooked as it was a tad overdone.
To finish off our meals, we decided to try the special dessert that the chef had made. It was homemade cannolis. The filling in the cannolis was what was so amazing. The chef had candied his own orange zest and it was perfect in the filling. It added a fresh taste that was noticeable without being overwhelming.
Just as an fyi, if you are looking for some different craft brews along with a good meal, 10-01 just might be the place for you. We had a great beer from Sun King that isn't available most places. You would typically have to drive down to the brewery for it.
Overall, an exceptional experience! We just got married and I moved in with my husband, so I have adopted this area as my neighborhood and am very pleased with 10-01 as a "renewed" stand-by.
10-01 has an amazing interior. Â It's warm and inviting and the lighting perfectly compliments the decor. Â Â I also like how the bar is in the basement while the dining is upstairs . . it's a great separation of the two types of very different energy. Â
To start with, we ordered the jalapeno cornbread with brie beer battered bites. Â I thought that everything was delicious. The cornbread was very moist and rich and had a light amount of jalapeno. Â Don't get me wrong - when you get a bite with the jalapeno, it's HOT! Â I am in love with cheese (seriously!) so I thought the brie was amazing. Â
I didn't care for my entree but I think it's a personal preference thing rather than the food being bad. Â Sometimes you go out on a limb and it doesn't work out! Â It was a pulled bbq chicken sandwich on the pretzel roll. The chicken is tossed in the sauce before being added to the bun. Â
For those of you that don't like your BBQ with the sauce, it is possible to get it without. Â
This time I stuck out with my menu choice. Â I'll be back and expect a bump from 3 to 4 stars.
Food is awesome with tons of options all locally sourced! They have a good selection of local beers as well! The atmosphere is very nice although it is a bit small. You do have a nice view of broadripple as the restaurant is on the second floor and they have huge windows to capture the view. There is also a bar downstairs which is nice because you can separate the dining experience with the bar experience . if you are looking to have a date night or just hang out with friends give this place a shot, and remember it supports the local economy!
Review Source:After reading about this restaurant in the Indianapolis Star this week  thought I would check it out. They are located in downtown Broadripple and have a parking lot in the rear and we quickly found a spot. There is also plenty of street parking. My wife and I along with another couple had a 7:00 Saturday night reservation and were immediately seated. The restaurant was crowded but service was excellent.  We were quickly provided menu's and ice water by our friendly server. The local beer selection was interesting and I really enjoyed the 3Floyds  Alpha King Ale.  I think the drafts are 16 oz and the Alpha King is $5.
We ordred a fish fries appetizer which was 3-4 small pieces of plain, breaded catfish. It was ok but I would not order again. I would serve it with lemon wedges and parsley garnish for a better presentation.
They had a couple specials for the evening which included a lamb shank. Â A near by table had the lamb shank which looked great and was very large. It was $28.
I ordered the Portobello sandwich which is $10 and comes with choice of one side. I chose the sweet potato fries which was a large order and very tasty. I would have preferred a smaller order of fries along with a second side. Â The sandwich was very good but the mushroom was small. I really liked the pretzel bun.
My wife ordered the fried chicken dinner which has received many favorable comments in Yelp. It comes with mashed potatoes, green beans and cornbread. The dinner was excellent except the cornbread which was dry. The breast was large and comes with a drumstick. The breading was excellent and the meat moist. The green beans were cooked just right, done but still crispy. Â At $16 it is pricey for a two piece chicken dinner but it was very good.
Our table of four shared the $7.00 bread pudding which was excellent. It is served on a large plate with a sauce and blueberries.
Because of the interesting menu I would return to try other selections.
I really enjoy the ambiance at 10-01. Â The covered porch/patio/deck is a great place to eat in Broad Ripple. Â Their version of the BLT is one of my favorites in town: Â Pears, Brie, Bacon, Tomato, Lettuce...
They usually have a great local beer selection on tap, and a great variety on their menu so that my gal pals who eat on the lighter end can be happy, and so can my guy meat-and-potatoes guy friends.
dined here for the second time on a thurday. the drink specials were very well priced and the drinks themselves were high quality: top shelf cocktails or local craft beers.
for an appetizer we had the catfish "fries". i was expecting them to be cut long and narrow like french fries, but they were just small pieces of catfish. still, they were quite good. the fish was juicy, the fry was excellent, and the sriracha  tartar sauce was a nice complement.
i had the pork belly entree. it was delicious and well-balanced with the polenta and garnish. my wife got the fried chicken. we were warned that the chicken takes a bit longer, but it was worth it. the chicken was outstanding. everything about it was perfect, from the juiciness of the meat to the quality of the fry to the spice blend in the breading. it was the best fried chicken i've had in years, and the portion was so generous that my wife (who usually prefers dark meat) gladly gave me her drumstick, as the breast  was more than large & juicy enough. the potatoes, green beans, and gravy that accompanied the chicken were all pretty good as well. sadly, the chicken also came with a piece of cornbread, which, though flavorful and large in size, was much too dry, to the point that you wouldn't even want to eat it without slathering it in gravy first. Â
this would have been a 5-star visit had the cornbread been more moist.
Large modern dining area upstairs with a great outdoor patio overlooking broad ripple ave. Â Always a fan of being higher up and looking down at "movement". Â Gives a feeling of separation. Â The service upstairs & down is incredible. Â Knowledgable servers that know their beers & food. Â Excellent, fresh food. Â Comfort food with a culinary twist. Â Personally I hated the fish tacos, but everything else I've ate is very good. Â Desserts are supposed to be incredible.
The downstairs bar/cave Is great. Dark, cool, perfect. Â Two ways in, 10-12 high top tables, a larger divider with stools, and a rough granite top bar with no ledge. Â Great bar back, mirror and shelves. Â Entire place is dimly lit, but good. Â The downstairs can get very busy at times, but service is pretty consistent. Â Tons of HDTVs makes 10-01 a great place to watch any sporting event.
Locally owned
"I really want to try that place out sometime," I would always say upon passing by 10-01. Â And by golly, yesterday I did. Â And it was excellent! Â From the awesome outdoor patio to the super service to the delicious food, I was pretty impressed!
My boyfriend and I had the Southwestern Corn Dip as an appetizer and it really hit the spot. Â Spicy but not over the top with corn, cheddar cheese, green chilies, and corn chips. Â I enjoyed the portobello sandwich with sweet potato fries. Â Two thumbs up for the pretzel bun, perfectly melted swiss cheese and the surprise tomato... and the BEST sweet potato fries I have ever had! Â Seriously awesome fries, I am dreaming about them right now. Â My boyfriend had the 10-01 burger with regular fries. Â Nothing was left on his plate so I can only assume that both were amazingly good. Â I also tried one of their signature cocktails, the 10-01 Cocktail With a Twist. Â I can't pass up St. Germain and champagne. Â I was iffy on the $12 price tag at first but it comes out in a carafe that pours about three cocktails. Â Splendid. Â Service was great, our waitress was really friendly and there when you needed her. Â We really enjoyed sitting on the outdoor patio as well.
Glad I was finally able to give 10-01 a try! Â I will return soon!
We ate the last Friday night. They did not disappoint, its nice to eat on the above ground outside dining area, weather permitting, overlooking the busy Broadripple traffic. Â We enjoyed the pork belly dish with the crispy french toast croutons. Choco lava cake is also very nice.
10-19-2012
went there last sunday for brunch. wow we waited about an hour before they serve us our meal. it was just cold cuts and and olives and cheese, and barbecue sandwich for the wifey. the place wasnt even busy, i dont get it.
Went to 10-01 for the second time last week for a pre-theatre dinner. Â The first time I had visited was for a Friday night party honoring a friend, and the wait staff were tremendously accommodating with split checks and getting all the orders correct. Â When I suggested going to 10-01, my dining companions had not heard of it, so I paraphrased the establishment's own descriptions, "Midwestern comfort food with the culinary knob jacked up." Â This produced a flurry of giggles.
Once we got our first round of food (Mac & Cheese), the giggles stopped - we were all too busy oohing and ahhing over the quality of the food.  I also ordered a hamburger with havarti and jalapeños and was elated to find that it was actually cooked to order - it is rare (pun intended) to find an establishment that will actually cook a burger to a true medium-rare.  Others at the table were well-pleased with their gourmet grilled cheese and tomato soups, ribeyes, and fried chicken, but we all kept talking about that wonderful Mac & Cheese!
Would go back in a flash, even just to check out the bar in the basement. Â The drinks that accompanied our meal were well mixed and quite tasty. Â I provide no comment as to whether a return trip might also include a clandestine expedition wherein I acquire an order of Mac & Cheese that is subsequently snarfed down in the car...
What an eclectic restaurant that lives up to its self-description: 'Midwestern Comfort Food with a Culinary Twist.' Â Fantastic! Â
I decided to try 10-01 when simply passing by on the Monon (no pre-screening on Yelp before hand...). Â I was really impressed with the dinning area layout; simple and modern, bar on the ground floor and restaurant about a story above busy Broad Ripple Ave with plenty of outdoor seating as well (I enjoyed watching the village from a bird's eye view). Â The menu is fantastic; beer selection that's about 80% local and hearty, homegrown app/entree dishes that are prepared in really original ways - the Apple-Bacon-Blu Cheese Pizza was delicious, as well as some tasty Mac & Cheese. Â
The service was also exceptional, our waitress was very courteous and most appropriately helpful with keeping us happy. Â She even allowed us to sample some really excellent in-house Jamison Ganache, holy mackerel was that stuff good!! Â Best of all, this place isn't too expensive either, I felt like I got a great meal for just the right price.
I came away feeling very satisfied with my choice from the quality, experience, and value standpoints. Â This place comes highly recommended by me.
Really like the vibe of the lower level bar area...the food tonite really left something to be desired. I opted for the grilled cheese, and I will reiterate what a previous reviewer said about the so-called "tomato bisque". Â It is absolutely chunky marinara sauce. Â :( Â not really what I was hoping for, and the grilled cheese was just ok.
Finished up the evening in the bar, so ended on a good note.
If you're in B-Rip, this place is a must try!
I came here with a few friends on St. Patty's Day, because my boyfriend suggested it. Â I am so glad we did! Â The service was great, the outdoor seating rocked, and the food was delish.
I started off with a pear martini which was delicious. Â My friends ordered beers. Â My boyfriend and I split the mac 'n cheese and spinach and artichoke dip. Â Both were flavorful, and just the right amount for splitting. Â My girlfriend ordered a pizza with bacon, apple and cheese and it was so tastey. Â I dove right in and enjoyed each plate that we ordered.
The service was so great. Â It was my girlfriend' s birthday, and the server brought out a slice of Guinness cake on a plate with Happy Birthday written on it. Â She loved it! Â Our server even told us about some of the sweet treats they serve and brought us some genache to sample free of charge. Â It was really delicious!
All in all, this is a wonderful place to grab a casual dinner with friends or have a nice date. Â The outdoor seating is on the second floor so the noise isn't as bad as some other establishments in B-Rip that offer outdoor seating. Â Try the spinach and artichoke dip, and you won't be disappointed!
I don't know if this place is a hidden gem in Indy or not, but it's got great food and drink, just like it's name. Â It's also located in a prime location right at the east end of the bustling Broad Ripple bar district. Â We had a delightful family reunion dinner with nuclear family present , and our party had for our entrees:
Flatbread veggie pizza - $8
Pork chop - $18
Classic pot roast - $18
Fried chicken -$14
All of the entrees may sound ordinary, but they were delicious and very nicely done. Â You can also see that the pricing is very reasonable. Â The pot roast was the most tender I've ever had. Â OK, the flat bread pizza could have been more piping hot, but it was ok. Â They have a nice beer, liquor, and wine list (it is in Broad Ripple after all), and I had a nice Brugge Black - a tasty stouty drink brewed locally across the street. Â We shall try to return before the end of the Indianapolis era. Â No reservations here, and it got quite busy by 6:30pm.
This is becoming one of my favorite restaurants in Indy. It's a spin on traditional American cuisine and I'm finding myself willing to try dishes that typically don't prefer. I've had a chance to sample a large portion of the menu (one of the benefits of going with a large group of friends) and I've yet to try something I don't enjoy.
I highly recommend the jalapeno cornbread appetizer! Its not very spicy and comes with very yummy fried brie bites and cranberries.
They have an excellent selection of local beers and the wine menu is very good as well.
Fresh, organic food cooked and served with an obvious love for good food. If you like chain restaurants this place is too good for you. Every bite was full of yummy flavor where you could really taste all the ingredients in each dish. YUM! Nothing was from a can or frozen or reheated. We both had the special which was Pork Belly served on a bed of polenta. It was a flavor explosion!!! The Chauterie starter was divine for the cheese and meat lover in me. Served on a cedar plank make the presentation easy to share and added a nice flair. Â The deserts, again, omg they were fresh and decadent. I hope more foodies who love FRESH REAL food try this place. You won't be sorry. To all the chain restaurants lovers just go to Applebee's and eat canned frozen food.
And you can see the kitchen so you know what you're getting is truly fresh!
While we're always anxious to support local restaurants, 10-01 receives a mixed review. Â We were there for dinner after dark. Â The atmosphere appears to be great in some parts of the restaurant. Â However where we sat (parallel to the kitchen) it was washed out from the glare of the fluorescent light coming from the kitchen. That lighting is a real atmosphere killer.
The food is a mixed bag as well. My wife had the salmon which she enjoyed. Two of us had the breaded tenderloin sandwich. It was a beautiful golden brown and immense - about the size of a baseball glove. Â Split decision: my son enjoyed it and would order it again; I didn't care for it. Â The coating was mildly sweet which I just could not enjoy. Â We also had the portobello mushroom sandwich. Â The review: wouldn't have it again. Â The sweet potato fries were amazing - they could almost qualify as dessert as they were seasoned with brown sugar and vanilla.
I guess this is what 10-01 is about - putting unusual spins on traditional favorites. Â Some things worked, some things didn't.
3.5 stars...but being a fairly new local business, bumping them up to 4 stars.
I came here tonight with my son-in-law to celebrate a new job. Â We both had a glass of Malbec which was good and reasonably priced. Â I ordered the Grilled Cheese Sandwich, which came with a Tomato Bisque. Â My SIL ordered the lasagna.
The Grilled Cheese was amazing, but I couldn't eat the soup because it was too salty...and it wasn't really a Bisque, just a plain Tomato Soup. Â When I mentioned this to my SIL, he commented that his lasagna was a little on the salty side too.
Our server was pleasant and efficient. Â The restaurant wasn't very busy but it was a weekday night and early for Broad Ripple.
Glad I had a chance to try this restaurant before I leave the Broad Ripple area.
I met a friend for happy hour at 10-01. Â We went for the half price wine on Wednesday, but, be warned, the half price options are very limited. Â Plus they had some pretty decent beers (local and other micros), so the choice was easy.
I ordered the grilled tenderloin sandwich with sweet potato fries. Â The loin came out fried, not grilled. Â The server apologized and offered to take it back, but my friend already had her dish and the fried option looked tasty so I dug it. Â It was good and huge, but there are better tenderloins in Indy. (See my review for Bud's Tavern.) The fries were just alright.
When the server brought me my bill, it was something like $500. Â I had two beers and the sandwich, so this was obviously a mistake, but after the tenderloin incident I was slightly frustrated with his lack of attentiveness. Â I semi-politely explained my frustration as I handed the bill back to him. Â He comped one of my beers to make up for his average service. Â I'm all for "making it right" but I would much rather have a positive service experience that does not result in the need for comped food/drinks.
If 10-01 is still around in the spring, I would like to check out their patio and some of the tasty sounding appetizers. Â Otherwise, I'm not too excited about this Broad Ripple addition. Â There was ample free parking in the lot behind 10-01 on a Wednesday night at 6:00.
It's a nice, relaxing place for a reasonable weeknight dinner. Â The simple menu has a pretty good vegetarian selection...not that I'm vegetarian. Â Anyways, I went ahead and opted for the marinated portobello sandwich with their amazing sweet potato fries. Â The small portobello was situated on top of pretzel bread (that could have been softer) that was spread with their house-made hummus and topped with a slice of tomato and a few tiny spinach leaves. Â
The portions weren't very big at least the meal was good overall. Â I wish I had gotten their soup of the day which was clam chowder.
I waited a bit before going here, just to let it establish itself. Â I liked the feel of the place, esp. sitting outside. Â
They had a nice local craft beer selection and a decent wine list. Â This place seems to specialize in cocktails. Â They even had a "fall selection" of 6 cocktails. Â
I wasn't real hungry, but had heard they had great corn chowder, so I had that. Â Yummy. Â I highly recommend it. Â My friend had the chicken salad, and that was groovy too. Â
I had a pleasant experience and will return.
Made my first trip to 10-01 yesterday, on a cold and dreary rainy day. I was searching for soup. Specifically, vegetarian-friendly soup that wasn't secretly made with chicken broth. 10-01 delivered...in three varieties!
The tomato bisque soup was delicious, as was the wedge salad. Only complaint was that the salad was drowning in dressing - I'll have to remember to order it on the side next time. The rest of the menu looked fantastic, as did the beer list.
The atmosphere and service was pleasant and cheerful, even with the gloomy grey skies outside. I'll be back soon for more!
If you were participating in a scavenger hunt and needed to find the following:
- good beer selection
- good food
- good patio
- good people watching (broadripple ave)
- cheap beer
- the bears game AND the colts game
- easy parking
Then you can find them all at 10-01. Your prize for finding all of them and winning the hunt, a good time.
They are still pretty new to the game and as such have a few kinks to work out. None of the kinks I've experienced have been deal breakers.
Great selection of Indiana beers and as mentioned by others, $3 drafts on satruday and sunday.
The one star is for the outside patio. Everything else was not that great.
I have only been here one time and maybe I should give it another try based on all of the sporadic reviews. Some people love it and some people hate it, so it is kind of hard to get a feel for this place without trying it again.
We went with a group of about 8 people, there was just something about this place that bothered me. It was a sunday afternoon so the atmosphere was kind of dull. I ordered a Upland wheat beer I believe and they said they were out of it. Ok, no big deal. I ordered another from their limited beer selection. The weird thing was someone else ordered a drink that was a mix of the beer I ordered and lemonade or something and they brought that right out to her. So either they lied to me about not having that beer or they gave her a drink that had something different without telling her. MMMMM?
We all ordered a little bit of food, I got the grilled cheese simply because nothing else sounded good and their menu is also not that great. It definitely was not a $8 grilled cheese. I dont remember anyone else saying they loved their food.
Everything just seemed really overpriced and just not quite right, I dont know maybe I will give them another try but for now based on my one visit, it is One Star!!
We went to 10-01 last night and I would possibly go back...for the drinks. Â
I called to see if I could get a reservation and the nice lady who answered the phone said that they don't take reservations. Â She then asked how many people were in my party and I said 8. Â Then she said she would hold a table for us since we were a large party. Â I thought that was pretty nice. Â
Our waiter was great! Â I wish I thought to ask him name but I'm not sure I would have remembered it anyway because I may have enjoyed a few too many of 10-01's drinks. Â A friend and I split a bottle of wine that I can't remember exactly what it was called but it sounded kind of like Alcatraz. Â Delish! Â Others at the table went with the $10 margaritas which were a special of the night and those were definitely a winner. Â Once our wine was cashed, I ordered the 10-01 cocktail which was delicious as well. Â A friend also got the cucumber fizz cocktail and raved about that one too. Â Clearly, the drinks here are a winner!!
We had a wide variety of orders at the table. Â Some we liked, some we did not. Â
Spinach and artichoke dip appetizer -good! Â The corn chips were my favorite part though the dip itself was good too.
Portabella Mushroom Sandwich - This is what I ordered and I think if maybe it had been served open face, I would have liked it more. Â The mushroom wasn't that big and was kind of lost in the pretzel bun. Â However, when you did get a bite of the mushroom, it was heavenly and marinated very well. Â I debated a lot between this and the Dill Chicken Salad sandwich so I just have to try that one next time.
The meatloaf sandwich - this one wasn't given as good of a review but one guy at the table said when he got it last time, he really liked it. Â Based on the other reviews, it seems to be a hit or miss item. Â
The outside in burger - this was a crowd pleaser. Â The guy who ordered this one learned from his last experience to let the burger sit for a minute after he got it because otherwise when you cut it, all the cheese runs out!
The pork tenderloin burger/entree - both pork tenderloin dishes seem to be a crowd favorite. Â I have yet to hear anyone say they didn't like it.
The catfish dinner - the girl who got this said it was kind of bland. Â However, I have heard good things about the catfish sandwich.
Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at 10-01.
This restaurant was good, with a great atmosphere.
I was there recently with a group of friends. We were seated immediately, which was awesome, and then ordered drinks and appetizers. Our service was quick and friendly, and the food tasted good.
I highly recommend the cornbread, especially since the accompanied brie bites were really yummy. Who doesn't love friend cheese?
For the main course, I had the country fried pork. It was basically the same as what you'd get with the pork tenderloin sandwich, but was sitting on top of creamy mashed potatoes, with white gravy on top. I thought it could use a little bit of salt, to be honest, but otherwise I really liked it.
Beyond that, my cocktail was an Old Fashioned, which they made pretty well.
Overall, I enjoyed the place quite a bit and will definitely go back.
Decided to give 10-01 Food & Drink a try with a couple friends for my b-day dinner.
We started with the Roasted Jalapeno Cornbread as an app and it was amazing. The addition of the jalapenos was brilliant. It comes with two fried brie bites and cranberry compote. The brie bites were phenomenal.
Two of us had the Country Fried Pork. It was very good, the pork was tender and juicy. I would have preferred a little more seasoning either on the pork or in the batter for the crust, but in all it was good. The cheddar mashed it came with had great flavor.
My other friend had the Marinated Portobello Sandwich and said it was very, very good. It looked to be quite a value for the price.
We finished off by sharing the Death by Chocolate. It was great mixture of mini chocolate delights. Plenty enough for three to share!
Our server was also pretty incredible. The perfect mix of attentive, but not overbearing.
I cannot wait to go back to explore more of their fantastic menu!
Well I finally made it for dinner. Yes, we spent even amounts on two meals and four drinks. The drinks are great, and there is a great selection, but man, they are expensive. Close to $40 for four drinks. Nevertheless, the dirty martini and Waitiki were fabulous. I'd like to try the cucumber fizz next time since everyone is raving about it.
I dined on the Grilled Salmon, and yes, it was awesome. The kale was braised perfectly, and the sauce while having fattier (delicious) ingredients, was light. The salmon portion was generous. Ordered a side of fontina mashed potatoes and had to stop myself from eating the whole thing. I can't imagine how much more delicious they become once a fried lobster is placed on top of their pillowy, cheesy nom-ness.
Our server, Hano, was attentive, funny, and extremely helpful to help decide what to eat when our "Batman-Batman fly right out" method ceased to work.
This is one of those restaurants where you have to yell to talk to the person seated next to you. Â There were three of us and we sat in the basement area which seemed to be louder than the main floor. Â The place was full on a Tuesday night, and literally we had to lean forward and talk very loudly to have a normal conversation. Â I know they are going for an industrial look, but maybe they could do something to the ceiling to improve acoustics?
The food was very good. Â I had the wedge salad which had very tasty blue cheese dressing and the meatloaf sandwich was great. Â My dining partners both had the dill chicken salad and one said it was the best they ever had!
We would go back and perhaps get a table outside. Â Seriously it would be quieter to eat on Broad Ripple Avenue. Â But it was 90+ degrees yesterday. Â LOL
So do others that have been there agree about the noise level or is is just me??
For only being open 2 weeks there are many thing to love about 10-01
10-01 is a slick looking place that focuses on comfort food turned upside its head.
We started off with the meat and cheese plate. Â The appetizer consisted of 4 cheese and meat portions accompanied by a raspberry compote. Â It was like Goose the market stopped by and had lunch with us. Â Unfortunately, nothing stood out....which means the flavors were all pretty familiar....brie.... prosciutto. Personally, i was looking for more stank.
For the main event I ordered the pulled chicken bbq sandwich on a delicious pretzel bun. Â It was good but I was looking for more stank....more comfort....more sauce. Â The sweet potato fries were good but didn't live up to the hype.
The lady had the portabella sandwich which she dubbed "better than the Grog House!" Â Not small praise...she loves their sandwich...as do I.
10-01 carries local heros Flat 12 as well some other unique breweries from around the state.
Last but not least, our waitress was great....friendly and timely.
My advice to the 10-01......after you get your bearings.... don't be afraid to add some stank on your hang down. Â An old adage in the art world went something like this....muted colors mumble....let it out my friends...you've got the makings of a great restaurant.
O.K.....yelp community...now I have eaten here....you can stop flagging the darn reviews....maybe actually read the review...thanks !
I thought all around pretty darn good....not overly impressive....but at least trying some new things. Â I found the service to be just about perfect in terms of attention...without being the bff mode.
No question some kinks to work out....kitchen did an admirable job on a rather busy night...
I think the beer selection is excellent and reasonably priced...I wish other places would do the same...for instance...you cannot buy  a New South Brew product anywhere in Myrtle Beach....with the exception of a couple of places....why people want all their local money to go elsewhere is odd to me..
Drinks are expensive...but...that is the trend as people drink less...they tend to  want better products with greater care in preperation...thus...higher quality tends to equal higher prices.  Higher prices also tend to "filter" the crowd a bit....often resulting in patrons that don't have behaviour problems.......The days of quaffing several cocktails....wine...and after dinner cognacs are gone...darnit !   But the streets are safer....and cabs are now plentiful.
The original content of my apparently unacceptable rant...
BUT....HOW COME NEARLY ALL THE "BAD" REVIEWS...AND NEARLY ALL THE "5" STAR REVIEWS...ARE BY PEOPLE THAT HAVE 1 OR 3 REVIEWS ???
WTF ??
There is a lot of stuff on the menu that looks awesome, and I went with the meatloaf sandwich for lunch.
The dish comes with pickled squash, which generally isn't my thing, so I got my squash on the side. I picked the sweet potato fries as my side.
I was not disappointed. Â At all. There are two ways to screw up a meatloaf. You can make it too wet and too soft and have it fall apart and be difficult to eat. You can make it too dry and hard and no-fun. These guys got it just right. Soft enough and flavorful enough for it to easily be chewed, and it didn't fall apart while eating it on a sandwich. It wasn't "dripping wet" where water and fat falls out the bottom, and it wasn't dry where you need to take a swig of a drink with each bite. It was just right. You could taste the hint of oatmeal and other seasonings in there.
And then there were the sweet potato fries. Which were finished in brown sugar, too. On some planets, it could qualify as a dessert, but it they were so tasty I couldn't eat them fast enough.
For what the food is (fancy-stuff) the price is really reasonable, too. If this place was in California, Chicago or NYC, the sammich I had would have been $15-$18 or so, instead of the $8 on the menu.
Had the pleasure of a Mommy & Son dinner at 1001 last night with my 4 year old. Our server, Paul, was outstanding, intuitive, and helpful! The cornbread appetizer with the Brie bites were delicious. I enjoyed the People's IPA from Lafayette too!
All I can say in response to some of the less favorable reviews is give these folks a chance to get their ducks in a row. They're new restauranteurs, this is a new restaurant, and they're all a bit nervous. But they are eager, enthusiastic, and very passionate!
I'm a big fan, and am thrilled that they're in my neighborhood!
Thanks to a friend, I was able to get to go to this wonderful place before it opened to the public during a "soft opening." Â I hope I figure out how to get onto the lists for many "soft openings" in the future as this was the best free meal I've ever received outside of a date. Â The restaurant has a really fun concept: comfort food with a culinary twist. Â It's really a perfect theme--people less adventurous about food will be comfortable while the more adventurous will still be excited.
The restaurant has a few Indiana classics with some twists, from a pork tenderloin with a tomato aioli sauce to meatloaf with a side of truffle and chive tater tots. Â I really can't wait to try many of the things on the menu as there are quite a few interesting twists on some great foods.
I had an Orange Basil Breeze cocktail which was unique and fresh tasting. Â My friend had the root beer themed martini which she also enjoyed.
My friend and I sampled each other's appetizers; I was able to try both the Ahi Tuna Margarita as well as the Corn and Clam Fritters. Â The tuna was a lot of fun as it is served in a margarita glass with a dry rub added to the rim for flavor. Â It came with some salsa on top of the tuna and chips on the side. Â You have to be willing to be someone who likes their tuna on the raw side; as I am, I enjoyed it. Â The fritters might need a little work--mine had a little doughy flavor to them--but I liked the spicy and complex flavor. Â Hopefully it just needs a little adjustment and will stay on the menu as I really liked the sauce. Â The lavender butter that the fritters came in was also fun. Â
I didn't get to try any of my friend's grilled cheese sandwich, but my Open Faced Duck Burger was delicious. Â It came with cranberry basil bread pudding, cranberry sauce, and some veggies. Â I would recommend it to everyone as I really enjoyed it. Â I was told that it's also the chef's favorite dish. Â I hope to try either the meatloaf sandwich or the pork tenderloin sandwich the next time I go to this place.
The desert was homemade truffles; we had the bacon flavored. Â You shouldn't dare leave the place without trying them. Â I can't wait to try some of the other flavors someday.
The staff seemed very nervous and cautioned us that there could be kinks; it is always hard to get the various processes working together seamlessly, so I would have been patient even if my meal hadn't been free. Â I thought all the staff were very friendly and I look forward to seeing them at work in the future when they become more comfortable.
