My husband and I have been here on several occasions for brunch and always had a decent meal and adequate service. However, my experience over this weekend has left such a horrible taste in my mouth that we will NEVER return.
On Saturday morning, I checked my bank account online and saw a charge for $39.34 at 13th St. I was immediately concerned considering the fact that I haven't been there in weeks and was at another restaurant at the time. The weirdest part is that my debit card has been in my wallet the entire time.
As soon as they opened, I called and asked for a manager. When one wasn't available, I left a message. After several hours and no call back, I tried again. Â I was told that a manager was "looking into it" and I would definitely get a call back that day.
Although I didn't have any other fraudulent charges, I went to my bank and cancelled my card and filed a dispute. Â It was my intention to resolve the issue with the restaurant, but the lack of communication from them left me no choice.
By Sunday morning, I still had not received a call back so I tried again. I was told that a manager was STILL not available. After voicing my frustration, I was put on hold. This is where the extreme lack of customer service becomes shocking.
After a minute or so, a woman answered the phone with "hello." Strange to not introduce yourself as a manager or say you've heard of the situation and want to help, but whatever. I summed up the reason for my call and was immediately met with an argumentative attitude.
The manager  was extremely defensive and literally yelled at me about being too busy to return my call. Her exact words were "we don't work 24 hours a day" and "I'm sorry that getting back to you a day later wasn't soon enough." (In a sarcastic tone...and also false, since I was the one that had to call back)  She also said that since I cancelled my card there was "nothing that they could do."
Not once was there an apology or any sort of concern as to how this happened. In fact, she accused me of loaning my debit card to someone. Uh...no. Our call lasted about 10 minutes of going around in circles. Every time I tried to speak, she would talk louder over my voice arguing with whatever I said. Soooo bizarre.
Like I said, I filed a dispute and I'm not concerned about getting the money back nor is it a large amount that's a huge deal. What IS a huge deal is that this restaurant was perfectly ok with losing a repeat customer by yelling at them and not treating a fraud issue with concern. My hope was for an apology at the very least. That seems like common sense to me. After reading some of the reviews here, it looks like service and management are big problems.
There are MANY other amazing local restaurants that deserve your business over this place.
